Comments: I bought one of these for top water a couple years ago, I own several gloomis, among others decent brands, this black muse is top notch quality and is one of my favorite if not favorite rods that I've ever owned. Been fishing almost 30 years. Don't be fooled by the price these are really good rods, they look and feel amazing.

Comments: ive had quite a few 13 rods..mostly omens and envys...the muse is my favorite (yes, even over the envy). they are light, sensitive, strong and are a pleasure to fish with. well worth 180.00 but on sale for 125.00 its nearly impossible to find anything better

From: Bob: PA 4/7/23

Comments: Awesome, awesome rod!!! Super light, durable, and balanced.  That is one thing I look for in a rod and 13 definitely knows how to do it!  The 7'1" MH action is by far a favorite in the arsenal.

From: Kevin: Madison, WI 5/5/21

Comments: 7"1 M, Excellent rod.  Surprisingly makes a fantastic 1/4 chatterbait rod.  the tip is soft and loads deeper into the blank the other F actions i have.  It keeps the fish pinned while minimizing the hook hold.  Im sure there are better rods but, as far a jack of all trades this one is hard to beat.  Ive thrown shakey heads, ned rigs, spinnerbaits, weightless plastics, jerkbaits, Tokyo rigs and more.

Comments: Got this rod a around the holiday season on sale. Never had anything made by 13 before, so I kind of took a chance on this. Out of the tube the first thing you notice is the weight. I got the 7 1'' MF and for a M its fairly light and well balanced. Its not a beefy med like a premier Croix or a light M like an E6X it sits right in the middle of the 2. The real seat is nice, doesn't feel cheap. Its a partially exposed blank on the back of the reel seat like a mojo bass. I do prefer the 13 seat over the mojo and the locking foregrip is far superior IMO. The finish and alignment of the eyes were good which is to be expected for any rod especially over $150. I have been surprised at the poor quality control and or craftsmanship on some the high end loomis rods I've seen so straight eyes and an even clear coat aren't guaranteed by a high price. I will say that the quality of the eyes don't look to be great. They are real thin wire and look somewhat flimsy. The quality of eyes is always important on any rod. I do feel that better eyes on a spinning rod make more difference then a casting rod IMO and I got a casting model so its not a huge letdown. On a casting rod I would rather have the money saved on guides go into lighter more sensitive blank. It seems to me that 13 did the same thing with cheaper guides and a better blank with the fate black, only trouble is the reel seat felt awful to me on that rod which is a deal breaker. The look of the Muse is nice which isn't really important but definitely gets more attention. Had this rod been that ninja turtle green or some crazy loud color I wouldn't have considered buying it without rave reviews. Like I said I got this mid December so I couldn't really put a ton of fish on it fast. I have caught 3 or 4 dozen on it with a couple real nice fish mixed in and its handled everything great. Action wise it truly is a Fast IMO which can vary from company to company or person to person. It has some bend but is crisp and transitions well into the spine of the rod with little effort. Sensitivity wise its every bit as good or better then 3rd generation Croix graphite. Ive used ned rigs down to 1/8 and even through mono on a slack line you can feel that subtle "DINK". Its sweet spot is 5/16-5/8 for distance but loads well enough on 1/4. I have an slx DC on it and it balances well enough. It would balance better with a chronarch or maybe even an aldebaran. I wanted to really like this rod and was pleasantly surprised. Normally buying a rod made by a company you have never had experience with, felt or seen doesn't end well. As far as price I think 13 hit it right on the head. If you can get this rod on sale for 150 or 160 its a good buy. Its worth 180 IMO however once you get into that 200 range I think there may be better options especially for MH. If it had better guides and a 48 ton blank it would be a 220 or greater all day. I wasn't trying to write an essay, but when looking at this rod a few months ago I couldn't find many reviews about it. People either hated it or liked it. No reviews went into much specifics. I hope this helps someone to make a relatively fast and decisive decision to buy or pass on this rod.

Comments: Light, sexy, well built, LIGHT! I own 2, both paired with 13 Concept Z reels. They feel amazing. I do not own anything lighter. Beefy too, very well made and worth every penny.

From: Corey: Holiday, FL 1/5/20

Comments: I bought the 7'1 muse on a whim because, there was decent discount on it. Buying rods sight unseen is extremely rare for me. Ive heard great things about 13, unfortunately theres always a catch, like "the lower end 13 rods were great when they first hit the market now there trash." Seeing the fate black in dicks I could understand the opinion. They took a decent blank and put the cheapest components they could on it and made it slimmer (from ghostbusters) green to stand out from other rods in that price range. I took a chance knowing that a rod close to $200 should be head and shoulders above a $100 and to my relief this rod is great. Its very light, about the same weight as a ML avid. I would consider it a lighter medium exactly what I needed, heavier then an E6X but slightly lighter in power then a croix premier med and way lighter in weight. The action is a true fast, crisp enough to get good snap on a JB yet soft enough not to tear trebles out. The reel seat is really something else, very comfortable, the blank is exposed partially for increased sensitivity and has quality EVA on the grips. I got this rod less then a week ago and haven't put a ton of fish on it with the water in NJ being in the high 30s low 40s right now. I have caught fish with it on jigs, heavy ned rigs, jerkbaits, shakey heads and even 1 on a LC silent. Hard to beat being sensitive light correct action and great looking for under $175. Hopefully I don't see it on sale for much cheaper before Xmas. Only drawback is I would like to get a lighter reel then the SLX DC that I have on it.

Comments: This company has received a lot of bad rap over the years about how their stuff breaks but bottom line these rods are awesome. The customer service is on point and their blanks are extremely light. This rod is no exception. It has become my favorite rod over the years and balances perfectly. I use a 7'1m and pair it with a curado 51e. This combo has been lights out and feels like you're holding air. The sensitively and speed of the rod is amazing and I can use it for a lot of finesse applications. Can't wait to grab another one and pair it with a Chronarch or curado 70.

From: TP: Oceanside, CA 10/20/19

Comments: I purchased the 13 Fishing Muse Black MH casting rod just over a year ago and I use it for fishing Texas Rigs and Jigs. I must say this is my favorite rod hands down. I have many of the other top name brands and it's the lightest, most sensitive and comfortable rod I have ever used. I'm replacing all of my bottom contact rods with these as you can feel everything. For the price and what you get I truly believe they can't be beat. I paired this with a Curado 70 series reel and 12LB Sunline Sniper FC for my Texas Rig and its money.

From: Unknown: Surprise, AZ 2/3/19

Comments: Truly an outstanding rod. Light weight means sensitivity and this rod sure does meet the mark in those categories. The actions and powers are DIALED. The medium heavy feels like a medium heavy and not some noodle you get from rods like St Croixs mojo bass series. If you there's a doubt in your mind the price could potentially outweigh the overall value, pull the trigger. And treat the rod with respect, don't expect to be able boat flip a fish on a moderate action rod, let alone any rod that isn't an oak broom handle.

From: Kaden: Missouri 7/23/18

Comments: Outstanding weight, power and sensitivity. By far out performs my St Croix Avids. Best reel seat in the business. No flex or reel movement. Just solid. Working on replacing all my rods for Muse Blacks. Must try!

From: Scott: Lexington Park 12/29/17

Comments: Bought the 6'5" Heavy for Holly Body Frogs, and this rod does not disappoint! Despite the shorter length, the cast distance is just as good as my 7'3" frog rod. It has plenty of backbone and it loads up great on hookset. Have now caught a few 5lbers without issue. You sacrifice a little leverage but you gain the ability to work a frog on the bank or from the back of a boat with much more ease than with a longer rod. Highly recommended!
If you use it for something like a jig, it has excellent sensitivity too.

From: Rick - Miami, FL 11/12/17

Comments: First off, the way that this rods loads up on a cast is absolutely top notch! It is also an extremely light weight rod. Very first cast with this rod I caught a 6lb'er & it completely man handled that F1 bass! If you've had the opportunity to catch some F1 bass, then you know how much harder they fight. Only had this rod for a couple of months, but so far this rod has excelled!

From: Brad: Brandon, MS 8/9/17

Comments: Fished with the 7'2 medium heavy. I bought it for skipping docks with jigs up to two ounces, within the first thirty minutes I hooked a fish on the outside of a dock, boat flipped it and snapped it right in half. He fish wasn't even two pounds. Guess I'm going to have to go back to IROD and Diawa

From: Spencer: Clarksville, Tennessee 6/4/17

Comments: These rods are fantastic. I have the 7'2" MH and 7'5" MH. The 7'2" is the most versatile rod I've ever used. Great moderate tip with a strong backbone. I use this rod for everything except fishing heavy cover. That's where I use the 7'5". Lightweight, sensitive and strong.

From: Robert: MA 6/4/17

Comments: I have the 7'4" Heavy and it is awesome! I have really come to appreciate the products being put out by this company! This rod feels awesome, looks sic, and makes me confident in its durability! Guides are like butter and the blank has some thickness especially by the tip (looks strong) to help me feel this way. I have it paired with a Concept E and this thing is ridiculous! Caught six on this setup alone on the first day using it and I love it! Perfect jig/pitching rod! Feels solid when you give'em the wood!!Thanks 13Fishing!!

From: Mike: Davie,FL 5/26/17

Comments: *4/4/17* Just received my 6'10 ML muse black and so far my first impressions of the rod are great... SUPER light, very Balanced, EVA foam grips are very good quality, and the handle length feels perfect. I have it paired with a 8.1:1 Concept A for my weightless plastics but still need to spool some line on it and get out and fish. Might be purchasing a few more to go with my Envys and Omens

**Update**

*4/5/17* So I am back to update my review on this rod from a few days ago... Finally got out to fish with it and ive got nothing but great things to say! Once i got my reel dialed in i was throwing weightless plastics a mile. The rod loads up nicely with minimal effort and launches the lures just as effortlessly. Only fished for about 3 hours and got about 8 fish throwing a weightless texas rigged zoom speed worm hopping it off the bottom the rod was sensitive enough to feel everything and even the slightest of bites I could feel them and got a good hook set on them.... I highly recommend this rod to anyone who wants a very good stick for a decent price
