Comments: I use it for crappie and trout with 2lb and 4lb test on it. It is too small for bass. It is cheaply made but is all you need to catch crappie and trout. Caught 50+ crappie with it the other day in a little creek and it is still ok for more.

Comments: I do not own this specific reel however I have several Abu Cardinals (252,402,404, 701lx couple of each). The 200&400 series reels came on Berkley Cherrywood and Lightning rod combos a few years back when I first started fishing for bass (the combos were like $40-$60). Those reels have been beaten on hard. I use them for everything including smallie fishing on Lake Erie. They have never let me down when those balls of muscle make runs at the boat or bull dog you in 30ft. The drags work flawlessly from the lower end 200 series to the higher end 700 series models. I can't imagine this 503 model to be any less consistent and durable.

Comments: Bought this reel with high hopes. Its performed like a $20 reel. Very choppy, loud, and inconsistent. I would not even buy it at the sale price. Spend $100+ on a spinning reel so you dont have to buy a new one every 6 months.

Comments: smooth reel but spare spools a peice of crap and i have 20 pound big game trilene but it dosnt deal with heavy line good reel but i would just throw a little more and buy a shimano

Comments: Decent reel but I think it is a little on the weak side. Spare spool is plastic....sorta cheaply made.

Comments: When I got it, the screws holding together the casing were loose, and thankfully when they fell out, it was in the bed of my truck. No worries. I put them back in and tightened them up. Paired this with an AG Vengeance 6'6" MH (great rod for the $ btw). With 8 lb mono works AWESOME for jerk/rip baits on bass in the spring. Good solid reel. Thinking of buying another.
