The Ardent C400 Casting Reel is the entry-level reel in Ardent's baitcasting reel series. Many anglers - amateurs and pros - including the likes of Denny Brauer have decided to use the 100% American Ardent reels. Alton Jones famously won the 2008 Bassmasters Classic while using an Ardent reel. Now anglers finally have the choice of purchasing a bass reel that is completely crafted and designed in the U.S.A.

Ardent's new one-piece Comfort Grip Frame Design in the C400 is designed to be lightweight and features corrosion resistant aluminum for a secure base. 4 Stainless Steel Ball Bearings help keep the retrieve fast and smooth while the 6-Pin Centrifugal Brake System allows the angler to make changes when necessary. Ardent prides itself on the durability exhibited in their reels, fish after fish. The C400 Baitcasting Reel is one of Ardent's most versatile reels, also providing a clicking star drag design to help the angler make minor adjustments while fighting those stubborn bass.

Every Ardent reel is hand assembled and performance tested in their Macon, Missouri facility prior to shipment and backed by a solid 3-year warranty.

Comments: This is the worst reel I own. I have nothing good to say about it. When I first purchased it - it was completely dried up, I went to cast and the whine it audited was ear-piercing. I oiled it up a bit and it seemed to cut the sound down (a little). Fast-forward to the next season, when I began reeling there was a constant clicking noise. I removed the sideplate to realize it was the dimples from the braking system hitting against the spool. I removed the braking system and inspected the plastic cover that seperates the brakes from the body of the spool - the plastic that the cover is made out of is completely laughable, it's the same plastic you get when you get a pack of batteries, maybe even worse quality. The only way this "American" reel company is covering there profit margins is by using substantially substandard parts and plastics. There is nothing "quality" about this reel, and at 149.99 it performs like a 50 dollar reel. Don't waste your money, seriously. At this price point if you're even considering this reel go check out Abu or Quantum at the same price point.

Comments: Would love to say the best thing about this reel is its made in the USA status, but for me that comes in second.  First, and best, is its size and balance.  Personally, I cannot stand the pervasive design of lowered gears and the shift in balance they create.  For anyone else who would like to return to the footprint of the old Curados or Chronarchs without droping the $$$ for a Calais or taking a chance on eBay, this is the animal.  Slapped it on a St Croix Legend Tmt and it feels far better than the newer Curado it is replacing. Would like to see a little tighter tolerances in the fit and finish but it is not, after all, a $300 reel.  For the money spent mark me down as pleased.

Comments: This reel is way overlooked. i bought this reel to try out an American made bass reel. it is a great reel that i find casts better than all my shimanos and daiwas. quality is exceptional. the reel feels very durable, and the drag is very strong. its a no *BS* reel that is built tough. if u want to buy a great product and keep business in the USA, then i suggest u give ardent a try.

Comments:When I fish my tourneys, I can't trust my money on an old revo, or shimano, I need me an ARDENT!! I got one of these for fishing jigs around brush and lilly pads (pitching it), smooth, strong drag, smoothness is on par with my patterns REVO STX's, and casts better and is much quieter than them! Not quite as good of a caster as my XS 600's, and not quite as smooth, but still great! Matching all the Ardents up with Falcons, and Loomis GL3's. I'm gonna be selling a Zillion to get an XS 1000 and an IMX combo.
