Very poor for the money would NOT reccomendI bought this scale because I wanted to have more accurate and precise weights on my fish. I have a cheap one $20.00 Rapalla and it's still working after 4-5 years. The Brecknell scale quit after a 2-3 months. I thought the battery might have died so I replaced it with a new fresh battery but still nothing .

Comments: I bought the 55lb model, it broke while weighing a fish. Their customer service said it would costs them too much to repair it. Bad warranty and weak product for what it costs.

Comments: About 10 years ago, I being tired of the cheap scales, went looking to scale companies for a good replacement. I found this at a commercial scale co. I had to use my co. to buy as they sold only to businesses . It finally quit working this year mid season. So I ordered a new one and when it came I took the old one apart and found the tape running to the touch pad loose, cleaned it and put it back in, yep it worked! Don't know if the new one will ever see use. Got my old one before Major League Fishing was even a thought, now I only fish 8 to 12 tournaments a year, but I have never had a problem with rain, or moisture as it never leaves the boat. Accurate and dependable BUY IT!

Comments: I own the Electro Samson scale by Brecknell. I purchased it to weigh my catch while fishing. The scale is great while working properly; however, this scale is used exclusively outdoors but is not water resistant in any way. My scale got rained on - barely - and no longer works. I don't understand why a company would design a scale to weigh fish but it cannot get wet - even with just a few drops. There are zero seals on it to protect it from the elements. At the very least, the scale should come in a water-resistant case but it does not. I'm disappointed and will not repurchase a scale to be used outdoors from this company.

Comments: I've had two of these. The first one lasted 4 months, so I bought another one and it lasted 6 months. Then I read the reviews and seen that they are not water resistant. The last tournament it was raining so I guess the scale got wet. Almost $200 down the drain.

Comments: I bit the bullet and bought a set of these and like every scale I have bought it didnâ•Ât last but about a month or so. Will anyone ever make a set that is designed to last???

From: Clint : Granbury, Texas 3/29/21

Comments: While it worked, the scale was easy to use and accurate. The fact that it was on MLF led me to buy this model. BUT...and this is a big but...IT IS NOT WATERPROOF or WATER RESISTANT, despite being the most expensive of the class. Now, honestly they do not claim it is, but why would a top-of-the-line scale made for fishing not be waterproof? I was weighing a pretty good fish and it started flopping and the fish and scale slipped from my hand. Luckily, it landed in the open live well so I didn't lose the fish. Unluckily, in the maybe 3 seconds it took me to get the scale out of the water, it was done. I'm not sure any scales are waterproof, but if they are this sensitive to water, I think I will replace it with something cheap.

From: Mark: Washington 3/29/21

Comments: I think I've gone through three of these now.  The huge advantage is that the weights are spot on.  Highly accurate scale.  I test on a 5 LB weight every few months and it's never read anything other than 5.00. The bad is that it's not water resistant at all. I've had a few sit in damp boat hatches and they get fried pretty quickly. I will likely start keeping these in a waterproof stow box moving forward. I might even keep a cheap water resistant scale in the boat just in case.  Nothing worse than going for the scale to weigh a biggun, and having a broken scale.

Comments: Wrote bad review then got a call back sent a couple pictures and new scales are on the way. Good customer service and Carol was great. Hope these last longer than others

From: T-bone: Wartburg, TN 10/6/20

Comments: Bought one of these worked fine for a little but then power button stopped turning on. Had to pull battery and install again to get it to turn on. Call support number and left message no call back. Sure is a lot of money to spend to only work a little. Most times you spend a little more for something it is better. This is not the case here.

From: T-bone: Wartburg, TN 10/6/20

Comments: I have had mine in my boat and weigh my fish with this unit all day. I love the unit but put a different system to grip my fish on the working end of it. I have had my scale 5 years now with no issues. I would really miss it if went down. I highly recommend this unit.

From: Kelly: Ojai, CA  7/28/20

Comments: worth the money for peace of mind knowing your weight is gonna be dead on and it has been for last 3 years

From: Austin: New York, NY 7/24/20

Comments: This is the most accurate scale I have ever owned and I've owned dozens. If you're looking for dead nuts accuracy look no further. I eventually moved to the Rapala scale because I wanted the functionality of keeping track of fish weights for culling purposes. If Brecknell ever offered a similar interface as the Rapala tournament scale I would but that in a heartbeat. I used this scale exclusively for over 5 years with no issues. After about 5 years the OFF switch wouldn't work so I had to just let it 'go to sleep'. The battery compartment holder broke after about 2 years so I had to duct tape the battery cover on. Other than that it has held up well considering the heavy use I put it through.

From: Matt: Missouri 7/8/20

Comments: Boat kept in a garage. Unit only worked 2 years, maybe used a couple dozen times. Wont turn on. Replaced 2 new batteries, same thing. Called Brecknell and they said the display board went bad blaming it on humidity. Unit never got wet and I live in a dry region. I told them I have other digital display units that have lasted me for many many years. They said I should probably stick with those units, how about that for quality & customer service.

From: Shingle Springs, CA 3/4/20

Comments: Certified by igfa after Matt Adams world record submission. Enough said for me.

From: Nick: Lake Ozark, MO 10/16/19

Comments: Didn't last a year. Stored in boat and never got wet. Won't turn on and tried several new batteries.

From: Unknown: St Cloud, FL 4/9/19

Comments: This lasted a month in a bass boat locker before it shorted out. It never got wet. It was just exposed to some humidity. Great scale otherwise. I wish they were more durable.

From: Unknown 11/6/18

Comments: I bought one of these before they were for sale anywhere but the manufacturer's distributor site.  It doesn't have the pretty stainless steel handle but a quick removable plastic one that allows for easy storage.  I am pretty sure I am on year 5 or 6 of perfect usage.  No change of batteries, no issues, and is the most accurate scale I have ever used.  Store it safely and baby it and it should last for years and year.  The precision on these scales is scientific grade.

From: Matt: Broken Arrow, OK 7/3/18

Comments: If you notice this years major league fishing episodes they are all using this particular scale.  If one of the biggest tours going uses it for on boat weights it should be more than sufficient for lil ol me!!  Just dont get it wet!

From: Disco: CA 10/10/17

Comments: I love this scale! I too have shorted a few out but never from a quick moment in the rain more like dropping it in the livewell, leaving it in a soaked rod locker, etc. Salter's response has been the same for me but they explained that most of their scales cost $1000's so this truly is a throw away/replaceable item in their eyes. I can respect that & have purchased more (currently own 3 because we all need backups) Negative out of the way, this is hands down the best hand held scale available today. I've had 5 different scales certified by the state & they've all passed every single time. This is one of only two scales on the market that a fisherman can carry on his boat that is accurate enough to ensure a world record should you encounter one. Definitely a smart investment!

From: Matt: CA 9/4/16

Comments: Had the same exact experience as Fred from Camden. Fished in the rain, scale was stored in one of the boat compartments but got wet, display shorted out. Now it just displays 888888. I called customer service and they said "sorry, it's not water resistant". Pretty disappointing. It is the most accurate digital scale I've owned. I calibrated it against a state certified scale at the grocery store and it was only off by a tenth of an oz. Wish I could find a water resistant scale with this level of accuracy.

From: Michael: San Mateo, CA 5/11/16

Comments: I bought this scale last year. It's extremely accurate but is not waterproof or resistant. If you use it in the rain, water runs in the top of the scale and shorts out the control board. I called Brecknell & they told me the board cannot be repaired & "It was a throw-away item." I would not recommend it for anyone who fishes in the rain.
