Overview

Small on size, but big on performance, the Daiwa Fuego CT Casting Reel packs advanced technology and unbeatable quality into a budget-conscious, compact construction. Built using the same, palm-sized aluminum frame as the Tatula CT, the Daiwa Fuego CT Casting Reel employs Magforce-Z, which combines the best attributes of old-fashioned mechanical braking with today’s magnetic braking technology, resulting in adjustable cast control and outstanding backlash management.

Also equipped with Daiwa’s U.T.D. (Ultimate Tournament Drag) system, the Daiwa Fuego CT Casting Reel delivers super-smooth performance and increased cranking power. Complete with a contoured, swept handle for all-day comfort, the Daiwa Fuego CT Casting Reel combines cutting-edge technology and tournament-caliber quality into a smaller, more controllable package.

Daiwa Fuego CT Casting ReelVery good reel for the money. All of my other reels are Shimano and I would compare the quality to that of the Shimano SLX reel. No complaints so far. I've had it for a couple of months now. Casts great.

Comparing to the SLXI've got a Shimano SLX on a jig/worm rod I like a whole lot and I got a Fuego to put on a rod doing pitching and frog duty while kayak fishing to compare the two. Some interesting points: - The Fuego is a bigger reel than the SLX - probably more of a 200 or bigger. Subsequently, the SLX is vastly more comfortable to palm for me, and I don't miss the extra line. - Having external adjustment on the brakes is great, but as far as casting feel the centrifugal SVS brakes on the Shimano feel more natural to me than the magnetic Magforce Z brakes on the Daiwa. Interestingly, it seems like the opposite is true for other people. I've been teaching my niece to use baitcasters and she casts much more naturally with the Daiwa. Honestly, this is not a bad reel at all - well built, casts well - but I'm left with the conclusion that Shimano vs Daiwa is like Ford vs Chevy, where you're into either one or the other, and I'm a Shimano guy.

Comments: The Fuego is not only a good value, it is my favorite reel. My Fuego actually outcasts my Tatula Type R! My guess is that the heavier spool gains more momentum. This might explain why the Type R is a slightly better pitching reel. I don't know but my next reel will be a Fuego.

From: Papa: Hayden, Idaho 8/2/23

Comments: The reel feels well built and is very smooth. Casts a mile. but no matter how I adjust the brakes and the tension knob, I can not get it to pitch even a 1/2oz jig worth a damn. I'm gonna assume it's just something with the reel I got and will continue to manipulate the brakes because it just doesn't make any sense to me. But it's pretty disappointing because I bought it for my jig rod.

From: Zach: 6/23/23

Comments: I own 3 of these 6.3.1 reels on my topwater, cranking and spinnerbait outfits. 2 7.3.1 Tatula 100s for jigs and punching and a Tatula CT. I'll never spend more on a casting reel unless I pony up to the Zillion. I much prefer the Fuego CTs longer handle, wider flat grips and the huge line guide over the T-wing. I've hucked Lunker Plunkers, S-Waver 168 & Gantarel Jrs with this reel in a pinch without an issue. I'll probably throw my CT up for sale and grab another one of these reels, they take a beating and keep on winding.

From: Jon: Barrie, ON 3/20/23

Comments: Abu guy here who is used to taking the reel out of the box, turning all the brakes off, and casting without any issues. This was not the case with this reel or any other daiwa I own, but after figuring out the Daiwa system I must admit this reel is a blast to fish. This reel cast a 3/8 oz dropshot rig a country mile and pulls in fish no problem. At $109.99 it handles saltwater fishing much better than either of the daiwa coastals and it fits nearly 12 lbs of 165 yards of Daiwa samurai flouro. Honestly took my zillion tw off my rod to fish this reel and I have not looked back. Is it better than the zillion? No, but it is fun and the handle knob is really comfortable. Great reel overall and it has met all my socal salt water needs no problem.

From: Efrain: California 9/24/22

Comments: I have had this reel for something like 3 years. I also have a Shimano SLX for 2 years. The Daiwa Fuego is just a better reel over that time. Reeling, the handle is less wobbly. The cast control is easier to use because it's right there. Don't have to take off the cover. The gearing feels better while reeling, while this may be quite subjective. I'll take this reel over the Shimano.

From: JB: Pennsylvania 9/11/22

Comments: Bought this for my wife as a frogging reel, at the 8:1:1 ratio for getting them out of the jungle quicker. Also has monster drag system.

From: Kevin: Barrett 8/1/22

Comments: Just a flat out workhorse. I own nicer reels that are smoother, cast further, and look cooler...but for 2 or 3 times the price. The value is just untouchable at this price point. I default to these on any new rod now unless I'm doing something special. Some of the parts are interchangeable with other Tatula platform reels so sourcing parts and doing mods is a breeze.

Comments: Great reel. Smooth line release . Great price for the reel. Will purchase another one.

From: Bobby: Columbus, OH 6/29/22

Comments: I never leave reviews but I feel strongly about this. If I was to lose all my gear and replace it all I would put these reels on all of my rods. I've got 3 right now and at their price point they are so smooth, reliable, and user friendly that I always recommend them to my friends new to baitcasters.

From: Mike: Middleboro, MA 4/26/22

Comments: Recently purchased and 8:1 and spooled it with 50lb braid. Reel casts great! Its only been with me for one trip on the water (no fish on it) but I was very pleased with the design and functionality of the reel. Only minor issue I found is the magforce break dial. I found that as I was fishing the way I hold the reel resulted in the dial being turned often. Keep and eye out for this to help reduce backlashes. Other than that its a great reel for the price.

From: Mike: California 4/8/22

Comments: I own many 100 dollar baitcasters, from all major reel manufacturers, and this reel is as good as it gets for the price. Nice handles, solid mag force breaking system. Aluminum frame, good drag and fairly smooth. I'm happy with this reel, to me I think it has a way better breaking system then my lews LFS speed spool. On my lews I have to have my breaks why higher then I do on my diawa fuego. I would recommend this reel to anyone for sure.

From: Jeremy: Utah 3/26/22

Comments: I own two of these reels now and I am still impressed with them. I fish heavy braid on both for jigs and big worms yet despite hard hook sets they both keep on working flawlessly. Solid and reliable for a reasonable price.

From: Uknown: 9/4/21

Comments: Outstanding reel at a great price point. This is my second one and my son has a couple as well. Highly recommend!

From: Mike: Newman, CA 8/19/21

Comments: WOW WOW WOW i have had this reel for 2 years haven't even oiled it still runs better than my tatula

From: Unknown: 7/15/21

Comments: Nice and smooth action and would definitely recommend. Price was great as well!

From: Chuck: Chowchilla, CA 6/29/21

Comments: This is the smoothest, Quietest, easiest to cast reel I have ever cast !!

From: David: Unknown: 6/22/21

Comments: This is the Toyota Camry or Ford Crown Victoria of casting reels. I own 4 of them and use them when I travel or fish from the banks. Sometimes they find their way onto the boat too.  These things just flat out work, take a beating and keep going. They don't seem quite as tight or smooth as a Tatula but they don't feel like a cheap toy either. This reel is also quick to dial in and seems to handle anything over 3/16 oz very well.

From: Ed: Boston, MA 6/21/21

Comments: Great reel for the money Smooth !!! And easy to cast

From: Aguilars: Columbus, OH 6/7/21

Comments: I'm not super familiar or experienced with casting reels, having only used either Abu Garcia C4, Shimano Curado K, and Shimano's new Curado 301, but I'm quite happy with this Daiwa. I needed a reel for my Daiwa Fuego 6'9" rod, and figured I'd try the matching one. So far I'm quite happy with it. It casts stuff in the 5/8ths to 1.5 ounce range very far, I haven't had issues with bird's nests, and the drag has performed very well on the handful of decent pike I've caught on it so far.  I've got it rigged with 20lb. Berkeley X5 braid (highly recommended) and a 40lb. Daiwa J-Fluoro leader. It's not quite as smooth as my 2 Curado reels of course, but I still think it's extremely solid and offers very good performance at $110. No regrets so far. And the 2020 Fuego casting rod is really excellent! I would really recommend either this reel or the matching rod. Both get high praise from me, especially for the modest price.

From: Ryan: West Wisconsin 5/29/21

Comments: Nice reel! Handles are a little different style but overall smooth reel

From: Dan: New Hampshire 4/22/21

Comments: VERY IMPRESSED!!! I am a hardcore fisherman. I own a shimano curado K and a Curado Dc and all I have to say is this reel seriously outfishes both of them. This reel cats a mile. I throw it with #20 power pro braid and it's seriously the best. I love to throw smaller swimbaits like 4" underspins and I can launch it a mile!!

From: Luke: California 4/6/21

Comments: Found it for around $75, it's very impressive! Smooth casting and drag. This reel stands up to heavy pitching and frogin.

From: Bruce: 3/12/21

Comments: I thought this would be a good reel for the price based upon the comments. It is a good reel for the price but I would not compare it the higher end reels at all. I already had a Tatula TWS CT100 and even thought it's 20-30 bucks more it's leaps and bounds ahead of the fuego. So if you want a reel that has a smooth retrieve and tighter adjustments then spend the extra money and you'll have your mind blown.

From: Austin: Michigan 2/16/21

Comments: Great reels. They have a bit of play in the spool and handles, as well as a few other minor quirks but they are solid and reliable. I have one of each gear ratio and they have held up great with standard maintenance. Will be buying more.

From: George: Michigan 11/14/20

Comments This reel feels great in the hand. It has very firm audible clicks on the drag and breaking system.Operation is silky-smooth. I compared this to a few other reels from higher price ranges and it was much smother than the others. Considering it was a $150 cheaper it was a no brainer.

From: Rick: Virginia 11/4/20

Comments:Have 2,if ur in the $100 price range this is the reel to buy.I have all the other manufacturers $100 offerings as far as durability and smoothness(not geary)after a couple of years in salwater use these have held up VERY well.Plz keep in mind I fish 6 days a week targeting flounder, speckled sea trout and snook/reds.All the reels were broken down monthly and meticulously maintained.Good reel would recommend, tight lines and tackle warehouse rocks!

From: Michael - Ormond Beach, FL 10/4/20

Comments: Alright first off everyone saying this reel is good is completely right. I have used shimanos abu and Lews in the 100 dollar price point. This reel is way better than any other reel in that price point. This reel can cast a mile, has a smooth drag and can adjust on the fly. I can throw the heavy and light baits a mile. In fact I can beat my friend in casting distance and he has a shimano Slx dc. I got this reel for 70$ and some change at fleet farm. If you want the buy the reel if you want a different reel buy this reel. I will be buying these reels and Daiwa CT's.

From: Unknown 7/18/20

Comments:I have 4 of the Fuego CT reels and I have been very happy with them. I have 2 of the 6:3:1 and 2 of the 7:3:1 gear ratios. I've have used these reels with different applications and they have been very solid. I would recommend this reel for anyone. They are also a very good bang for the buck in my opinion.

From: Spencer: New England 12/8/19

Comments:I owned all Lew's LFS or Tournament MBs, which I've been pleased with, but they were all in RH, and I wanted to try out a LH reel so I wouldn't have to switch hands after casting. I was hearing a lot of hype about the Fuego, so I decided to change it up and get one. I've only taken it out a few times, but I'm very impressed. Not sure what poster below is talking about with backlashes in every cast (must not have tension or brakes set properly. After several hundred casts, not a single backlash yet. I've decided I like a LH retrieve (which means I need to replace reels) so I have a decision to make with Christmas coming up. Should I tell my wife that Lew's is what I like?? Or the Daiwa Fuego. Both are excellent reels, but I think I'm leaning Fuego at this price point.

From: Unknown: Louisville, KY 10/19/19

Comments:Well i did alot of research on this reel and it seemed to be an amazing reel. Well i got it out on the water and constant backlashes left and right and i was trying everything to make this reel not backlash and all it would do was backlash. I really wanted to like this reel but i dont think i will buy another diawa reel.

From: Hunter6/8/19

Comments:Like everyone else is saying, these are great for the money. I personally think they'd even be great at this price, but I found them for around $70. Now I own four of them... Their best attribute in my opinion is how freely the spool will turn. I am able to pitch or cast lighter baits much more accurately with this reel. I love them!

From: Zack:WV 9/23/18

Comments:Outstanding reel with and aluminum frame, and the thing I like the most is the magforce z cast control. If you look around you can always find this reel at a lower price point than 99.99. I own 3 Daiwa Fuego CT and hope Daiwa never discontinue the Fuego CT but I'm skeptical with the release of the CG 80 for the same price point.

From: Adam:Eunice, La8/28/18

Comments:I purchased this reel at one of my local big name outfitters for 60 bucks. All I have to say is that Daiwa hit it out the park with a budget friendly reel that can do it all. I use mine for frog fishing and it works amazingly. Caught five frog fish today and dragged them through all types of vegetation with no drag slippage. Only negative thing I can say is the reel it kind of loud but still well worth the money.

From: Devin:Meriden, Connecticut 5/29/18

Comments:Amazing reel for the price. I have had it a few months now and it is still super smooth. Love the handles, the drag is smooth and consistent, the magnetic brakes are very very good as well.

From: Andrew:CA6/1/18

Comments:I have a 6:3 and 7:3 with this reel and i love them. Smooth casting and smooth retrieve. Set it up and havent had a single birdnest yet. For the price, these are amazing reels.

From: Unknown Chad 2/28/18

Comments:I was looking around for a reel to take with me while trekking threw the woods...my metaniums are not the reel to do that with. After looking between price and weight..I decided to give this a shot...it's a really nice reel..for 100$ ya can't beat it..looks cool yes, but it's fairly smooth, its a bit loud on the retrieve but 100$ who cares. Weight isn't an issue. You don't get blinded from the sun glaring off of it and it's fairly palmable..For a budget reel? Get this reel I think you will be happy at the price point of this reel.

From:Olman: 2/13/18

Comments:I had never owned a bait caster and was intimidated by birds nests in a reel a friend had given me to practice with. Another friend who was a pro with a tackle shop told me he could have me using a BC in a few days and recommended the Fuego. He was right! We spooled some mono and a practice weight and I went to work maybe 50 casts a day til I got the hang of it. I did originally buy a right handed model since I'm right handed but with my spinning reel I always used a left hand retrieve. I just didn't know til I tried it for a few days and did some reading about right handed people going to a left retrieve on a BC. I went back to my friend with the store and told him I wanted to trade it for a left hand model. He originally tried to discourage me by saying I would get used to it but I kept pressing. The right hand retrieve just didn't feel right. I would cast right hand then switch hands. Just felt odd. I had the RH model for about 3 weeks and had practiced quite a bit but he ordered a LH for me and traded for 8 bucks which I thought was very fair. He agreed after watching me cast in a empty parking lot that I did better with the LH model. Sorry for all the detail but I want to say that I love this reel. I think it says a lot that a long time spinning reel guy like me could so easily adapt to a BC. This Fuego was what he recommended for me and he has never steered me wrong. I told him the other day that I'm already planning my next Fuego purchase. Maybe a higher gear ratio model. I did get the Fuego in a setup on a Daiwa rod. I can't remember what the name on the rod is but it's the one Daiwa is matching in on. I think it's 6'9" medium maybe and the reel is like a 6.2 ratio? Don't have it with me as I'm writing this. If there's anyone out there like me I can highly recommend it. I just haven gotten any big backlashes on it and the ones I did get were easily undone. Working now on distance and can't wait for a little warmer weather so my ponds will unfreeze. I know there will be a lot of big largemouth bass caught on my new Daiwa Fuego!!

From: Shane - Greensboro, NC 2/2/18

Comments:I am switching to daiwa now instead of abu its soo quiet and smooth i got the 8.1 gear ratio and it is super fast it still casts far with out the t wing system and for an extra when you buy this you get a 15 dollar square bill and some 30 pound braid great deal

From:Unknown: 1/27/18

Comments: I've got this reel on my Crankbait rod as well as my frog rod and they have been great for me! Super smooth, great casting distance, and very comfortable in the hand. They are the best reel you can get at the $100 price point in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this reel for anyone looking for a good quality reel at the $100 price point.

From: Keegan: Jamestown, TN 8/31/17

Comments:Got this reel about a week or two ago in a 6.3 ratio, paired it up with my 7ft MH Fenwick HMG, and I'm pretty pleased with it. I have some 12lb mono spooled on currently and it casts real smooth, getting some good distance on it. I did have an adjustment period with a pretty bad backlash, but I'm chalking that up to my error. I think for the price you're getting a great reel. It is a little heavy, and I wouldn't mind if the tension knob would click when dialing it in, but those are very minor details that haven't stopped me from enjoying it.

From: Bad Bass Billy Gunn: Dupage County, IL 6/5/17

Comments:I just purchased the Fuego Ct for my 11 year old fishing buddy and I have to say that I am completely impressed. Tuning the reel is completely idiot proof. I had the reel dialed in within seconds and my young friend was fishing his first baitcaster successfully. Sure you could get a Tatula with the T wing, but I see no reason to spend the extra 80 bucks.

From: Martin: Elko, NV 6/3/17

Comments: Bought this reel about a month ago and thus far I am happy with it. Cast well, fits good in my hands and easy to tune. For the price I highly recommend it.

From: Lewis G.: Ojai, CA 5/18/17

Comments:Bought the 100HL and its a phenomenal cranking reel. Handles heavy line well and very smooth. I throw all my crankbaits, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits on a 7'6 MH Cranking rod with it. I was hesitant because of the low price but it's perfect. Very simple braking too and I would recommend to anyone!

From: Daniel - CA Delta 5/15/17

Comments: I got this reel about a month ago in the 8:1:1 for frogging and flipping and it is one of the smoothest reels for the price. Highly recommend

From: Garrett: San Diego 5/8/17

Comments:Excellent reel at the price point. Very comfortable to palm and fish all day. Might not be for guys with smaller hands. Heavier reel than some but manageable. Super smooth casting and pitches. I paired the 8:1:1 with a 7'6'' heavy. With almost 34'' per reel turn you can really dissect your cover you are pitching to, reel your jig up and have it back in the water in seconds. Aluminum frame and side covers are nice. All in all I'm highly impressed with a reel that won't break the bank. Solid reel for anglers that don't care for the TWS system.

From: Josh: Lake Havasu 4/16/17

Comments:this reel is amazing for the price it feels just my tatula ct's for the money you cant go wrong and its flat out sexy looking
