Daiwa went ballistic with the features and performance they loaded into the T3 Ballistic Casting Reel. Featuring Daiwa's proprietary Zaion Carbon construction, the Zaion material delivers the lightweight strength and rigidity of magnesium, while also retaining excellent corrosion resistance. This allows the T3 Ballistic to weigh in at only 7.8oz, and also excel in brackish or saltwater conditions.
The T3 Ballistic also features Daiwa's revolutionary T-Wing SiC Casting System. During casting or free-spool mode, the cover (at the front of the reel) lifts up and the upper portion of T-shaped levelwind creates additional space for line to more freely come off the spool. This ensures significantly less friction than a standard levelwind which forces line to funnel through a narrow opening. The result is much longer, more accurate casting, as well as a more natural fall from your lures. When the reel is re-engaged the cover closes down and guides the line through the narrow portion of the "T" levelwind, winding line like a traditional levelwind and providing the best of both worlds.
Daiwa also included their new Magforce 3D Cast Control System, which offers 20 fine tuning increments in 3 modes (Max Brake, All Around & Long Cast), yielding 60 stages of complete cast control. Available in blazing fast 7.1:1 or 6.3:1 gear ratios - the Daiwa T3 Ballistic Casting reel continues to push the levels of baitcasting performance and technology.
-Ultimate Tournament Drag System
-Aluminum Swept Handle Arm
-Free Floating Spool
-One-Touch Open Side Plate
-Low-Profile Quick Clutch
-Rugged, Six Point Drive Train Support
Featuring Daiwa's revolutionary T-Wing SiC Casting System for greater casting distance and accuracy, the Daiwa T3 Ballistic Casting Reels offer lightweight performance and the latest in casting reel performance.
Comments: I recently received this reel after only paying a 100 bucks for it. It palms really well and although the reel looks somewhat unrefined, it is comfortable. The only problem is this reel makes a louder sound than most reels. I took it apart, greased all the gears, and oiled the key parts but the noise remains. I think its the level wind that is making the noise. Hopefully it doesn't affect its performance. For 99 bucks, its not a bad day. But don't get your hopes up. I would say its in the sea category of the 2nd generation revo sx.

Comments: Two things worth knowing about this reel are. it really does cast really far with little effort truly and the light space age material it's made of nicks and scratches(more like gouges) incredibly easy! My advice is use a reel cover to protect it when not in use and don't bang and clang it around but buy it and cast with ease on a budget. I have neck injury and am always hurting more at end of fishing day partly cuz I can't cast my bait out far enough and use bad form trying to lobbing it farther. This reel casts it far and with ease. If you have physical issues that limit fishing and make it painful buy this reel and reel cover and be really gentle with it cuz the chipping and gouging is an issue but ease of cast and distance is worth being gentle. I got one on my cranking stick and buying one more to flip with.

Comments: Loved the Reel for the first 6 months I bought two of them. Then One of them the braking system gave out on the one so it was basically free spooling and for some reason while reeling in baits it seemed like something was holding it back causing it to not be smooth. The other reel is still working perfectly except it seems as if the braking system is TOO good. Hard to cast my jerkbait farther then 30 yards even with it turned to 0. All in all a great reel for the price it is currently at. I loved the reels and caught many 5+ lb bass on them. Daiwa has some of the best reels on the market. You can not go wrong with a daiwa reel. I currently own 1 tatula 100 and 3 tatula 100 type r's.
From: Matthew: Franklinton, NC 11/17/14
Comments: I got this reel for my birthday and I love it. Its casting distance is insane and it puts up with fish nicely. My only issue is that the reel is tight. I'm sure it will loosen up a little bit as I use it more and more. I don't think its $250 but for $108 you can't beat it.
From: Jacob: Apopka, FL 9/13/14
Comments: This reel is amazing...Hands down this is the best reel you can get in the 100-200$ price range. The construction is extremely solid and feels like you could knock a bear out with it. It has a ton of settings and all the knobs turn with smooth precision, I see a lot of back and forth in these reviews about the T-Wing system and yes it does add more distance in casts (Around 20% more distance). This thing will throw big lures to frogs to small rooster tails. It is very smooth and very tight when you cast so there is almost no backlash issues.
From: Jamie: Beaumont, CA 8/26/14
Comments: This reel has been a reel performer for the price excuse the pun. What it lacks in rigidity in the side plates is more than compensated for in the tuning ability. This is so easy to adjust I can wing 1/16 oz ultra finesse weight a country mile. The handle or lever length and feel is not the greatest admitted but for $110. Your not gonna find another reel with so many strengths. Buy it ...Dont worry...your getting much more than you think you are and much more than your paying for. It has pulled in more than its share of 7lb + fish with flawless drag response.
From: Thomas: Holly Springs, NC 8/25/14
Comments: this is a great reel for the price although if i would have paid retail for this i would be ticked off. The reel itself it smooth but not as smooth as anticipated. Handle is decent but seems like it could be better for the price. But all around great reel i can throw grass minnows all the way to 6 inch hudds. Good reel just don't know if i would have paid retail for it
From: Ben: Atlanta, GA 7/23/14
Comments: I received the reel and it was nice and smooth. Not as smooth as I expected though for being a highend reel. This reel does cast a mile and rarely can I get a bird nest or backlash casting 30lb suffix 832. The magnetic brake adjustments are the best I've ever used, they work very good and have very fine adjustments. The main side brake knob is kind of loose and will turn when it rubs against your hand. Ive turned it accidentally a few times. The buil quality on the reel isnt all that, in fact the smoothness and reel handle is something Id expect on a lower end bait-casting reel. The bearings are not as smooth as highend reels and the reel handle sucks period. I like the twing system but id wait for a better version, I have used it quite a bit and it works great but just seems flimsy to me. Ergonomically I love this thing, it palms very nicely and looks nice and slick. for 50% off I guess its a good deal, nothing spectacular though.
From: Taizer: Detroit, MI 7/20/14
Comments: I ordered the Daiwa T3 Ballistic 6.3:1 five months ago. It was legit for the price. I loved the T3 system. I never had a problem with it until about a week ago. The T3 system was cracked. Only on one side. Then the next week it came off. This reel is amazing on the other hand. If you are going to get it be careful closing it. I wish they made this with more durability. If they did, I would buy it.
From: Brad: Danville, CA 6/20/14
Comments: The ball bearings in this reel aren't all there and it isn't that smooth. The drag system also isn't the best. BUT this reel looks so nice, can cast a mile and the Low profile size in this reel makes it feel so nice in your hand. Many bad reviews on such a good reel. I wouldn't recommend spending $250 on it but for 110, it's a great deal.
From: Nick: Dayton, OH 6/7/14
Comments: this reel is amazing for the prize. Cast great looks great and the settings on it are extremely convenient and easy to use. I highly recommend all daiwa products
From: Jon: Chesapeake, VA 6/6/14
Comments: I purchased the T3 Ballistic XS!00 8.1.1 and all I can say is WOW! Smooth, Easy Assembly, and all around great reel. Worth the money no matter the price. Love it and caught many many bass on it already. Keep it up Daiwa!
From: Ashton: Baton Rouge, LA 5/26/14
Comments: The handle and knobs are a major disappointment on the 6.3:1 and 7.1:1. The 8.1:1 comes with a substantially nicer handle and knobs- FYI. That being said for 109.88 it's a great price. After having the two- I would spend a little more for the Tatula.
From: Kicking Wing: ID 5/1/14
Comments: Great reel for the money. I was a little hesitant because of some of the reviews but im glad i picked one up. Great feel to it and you can cast a mile with it. I will be getting another one soon.
From: Neil: FL 4/22/14
Comments: Awesome reel. Smooth and what deal. And it cast a mile. So many uses for this 8.11 speed. 33 inch retrieve. All I can say is WOW.... Great...
From: Joey: Hickory Tavern, SC 4/16/14
Comments: for 110 this reel isn't bad. But if I paid 270 for it I would have been terribly disappointed. The handle knobs have no bearing and you can sure tell. I agree with the reel feeling cheap. We will see how it holds up. It does cast a 1/4 oz muddy river swim jig a quarter of a mile though.
From: Kris: Pepin, WI 4/12/14
Comments: Got to fish this reel today. It is a really nice reel. Everything about the 8.1 reel is smooth. I plan on buying more tonight. It is a great addition to anyone's kit.
From: Roger: Clarksville, TN 3/22/14
Comments: It's amazing. $110 you can't find a better reel. I used it yesterday. Flippin is easy. And I can cast a mile. I would get the 8.1. The spool and handle are a lot better!
From: Abner: KY 3/12/14
Comments: I bought one of these last year and fished it all last season. Probably the best casting real I have ever fished. I will throw light balsa lures and hollow frogs with ease. the flip lid is NO problem at all. 60 settings lets you dial in to your lure and casting style. DOES NOT feel cheap. Very light and precise. I highly recommend! I just bought 2 more today.
From: Ray: Tulsa, OK 2/25/14
Comments: was not to impressed with this reel. Basically what you get is a $50 reel with a $200 T-wing system. Don't get me wrong the T-wing is great but the reel itself is not worth the money.
From: Kendal: GA 2/26/14
Comments: As a follow-up to an earlier post regarding the Daiwa T3; the casting distance on this reel is definitely a key point and an advantage over the distances I am getting with my other reels. Once dialed in and after repeated cast this reel has become even smoother and seems to gain distance. I am fighting the urge to purchase another one.
From: C: Northern, VA
Comments: Just received my T3 yesterday and my first impression was WOW! Definitely a quality product. I was surprised however at how compact this reel was in comparison to how it looked in the video reviews I'd seen on this reel.
From: Charles: VA
Comments: this is a great reel imo (8.1 ratio comes with nicer handle then lower ratios). The reel palms perfectly, the breaking system is one of the best if not best, drag is good, the body though not metal feels very solid and has been hard to nich!! The t-wing system works but now the tatula is out so you might be comparing these two reels and while I haven't used a tatula this reel has the better breaking system, I just wish they didn't skimp on the handles on the lower gear ratios. Oh also that pop up hood makes casting the reel extremely fun and addicting.
From: Greg: hendersonville, tn, usa
Comments: This is a good reel, the bad review have easily avoidable problems that any sensible person will surpass. the real is very smooth and casts far. I paired it with the Abu Garcia Vendetta2 and it is well balanced and makes a great overall match. I have a Quantum PT Energy (always have and will be a quantum guy) and this reel is just as good as it. I would for sure get this reel.
From: Hunter: Omaha, Nebraska, USA
Comments: I am a Daiwa fan and have fished fuegos, sols and zillions for quite some time. I really wanted this reel to "work" as I was ready to replace my fuegos and wanted something lighter than my zillions....HOWEVER the issue I have had with this reel (mainly due to how I "palm" my reel) is that a slight touch of the cover plate closes it down quickly - and when that happens during a cast it does not sound good at all. I have to be hyper aware of the position of my hand on this reel when casting and especially with a decent size bait as it is very easy to touch the cover plate if you "palm" your reel. Using it with gloves is nearly out of the question as it is just too sensitive. I have already bought a Tatula to try as the Twing is nice but the cover plate was my BIG issue. If you do not palm your reel they are a great value - especially with TW price on it.
From: Dustin: SLC, UT USA
Comments: I had the same problem ,try to polished T wing with wery fine sand paper ,that should help.
From: Tom: Garfield Nj USA
Comments: Great reel. This reel feels very good in hand, cast great, smooth, has very good guts, but the best thing about this reel is the cast controls. The Magforce 3D cast controls works Great. It has a 3 position switch on the bottom of the reel and a 20 position dial on the side of the reel , this combo works great !
From: GTB: Natchitoches, Louisiana
Comments: flawed design. When you engage the reel the line doesn't always get pushed into the t-wing grove, Causing the line to wind up completely on one side of the spool. Also, if you close the reel instead of using your thumb to stop the cast it will Frey your line. Good concept Daiwa but back to the drawing board.
From: Jason: upper black eddy, PA, USA.
Comments: I finally decided to get my T3 (T3 MX to be exact which is basically JDMs t3 ballistic so this version is little better) and I'm glad I did! The t3 platform is amazing and the t-wing system really does what daiwa says it does. The zaion frame was a big concern for me, I didn't feel like I should spend all this money and not get a metal frame however after handling and fishing with my t3 I love the zaion frame!! It feels really high end and durable. This thing can really cast too it even casts weightless plastics out there really far!! Mods for this reel is almost endless too. I love it and recommend buying one if you want a amazing caster with amazing braking system or at least demo"ing one.
From: Steven: fort knox, my, usa
Comments: Tony, I know what you're saying about the handle. I thought the same. Then I got a lexa 100 and noticed that the handle would fit on the t3 and it turns out to be the same handle that comes on the 8:1 ratio and limited editions...such a better fit and transforms the reel. Its bigger and badder. Call daiwa... $18 plus $4 for shipping. I know, it shoulda just come that way, but you are right... you paid for the t-wing and the Zion.
From: Rob: Cape Cod
Comments: Pretty disappointed at this reel. In my opinion the reel itself didn't feel cheap, the handle did. For a $250 reel i expected more from this reel but the only thing you're paying for is the t-wing system which makes hardly a difference on casting distance. However, the T-Wing system did work, but didn't make much of a difference. l think Daiwa focused too much on the T-Wing system on this reel therefore taking away from what matters the most. Out of the box it was noisy, didn't feel solid and was not as smooth as other Daiwa Products.
From: Tony: Kansas City, Kansas, United States
Comments: Excellent reel. I have had quite a few baitcasters and three really stand out as far as casting distance is concerned. These 3 being this reel, Quantum Smoke and Shimano Core. I tend to lean more towards the Core as a benchmark reel as far as sheer casting distance is concerned. This reel is on par. You don't have to wail into a cast to achieve the same distance and also "mini" backlashes are minimal. It really sucks to pull out line each time you cast to remove "small" backlashes. This is what I look for specifically when trying friends reels or my own. The longevity of the cast, ease of cast and minimal backlash when the reel is running on the utmost minimal braking this reel is a Stallion. It may not look good for some then again you may not look that good either, might even have "women" tell you that you look and feel cheap since 250.00 has devastated you. This is a dam good reel. Don't listen to the kids posting here.
From: CJ: NEW ORLEANS, LA. U.S.
Comments: I got a heck of deal on this reel. The reel is slick in design, and comfortable to hold. Very sleek profile. Casts like a dream, definitely more smooth when casting and I get great water coverage. the T-wing system is definitely a smart innovation. If I had the money, I would get another.
From: Andy: Twin Cities, MN
Comments: this reel really does cast like a boss! Zaion is essentially carbon fiber...its not metal, and doesn't feel like it. Its light and feels more like plastic, but its not cheap feeling... I have other reels that are newer, and in the same price range. I just like having multiple choices, but every time I pick this one up... I say "wow!" Now, I haven't cast everything out there, but I can tell you this is an awesome reel! Everyone that says its junk, or feels cheap...sounds ignorant to me.
From: Rob: Cape Cod
Comments: This reel sucks. If you wanna spend money on a good reel. Look at the Steez and Z200.
From: Joey: Cali
Comments: I don't agree with the comments about this reel feeling "cheap". The Zaion material is certainly different, but not low quality. I'm pretty psyched about it! If you're worried, don't be. If your still worried, go pick one up at your local shop and hold it yourself.
From: MSPbass: Twin Cities, MN
Comments: I just received 2 of the 100HS Ballistics...wow! I had to put it on the highest settings for the most braking because the line just flies off the spool! I used it for flipping and it will just skip under docks and trees like crazy. I think the aboves reviews above of the cheap feel are a misunderstanding of the Zaion material it is made of. It's a lot stronger than plastic but lighter. That may feel "cheap" to some, but to me it's more technology and quality from Daiwa.
From: Derek: Spring, TX
Comments: Horrible reel. Feels like a dinky cheap plastic reel. Went to pull it off a rod to sell it and the rear reel foot was broken off still stuck in the reel seat of my rod.
Comments: Bought 2 of the T3's, garbage. The reel feels cheap and the top of the reel will close with a slight touch, causing the main gear to strip. Will be selling both and buying Zillions from now on.
From: Andy: NE
Comments: Bought this reel thinking that the new levelwind technology had to be a can't miss. This reel casts a mile but the whole reel really has a cheap feel to it. It's awesome to cast and a cheap POS once you start to reel. If you're going to spend the money go with a Zillion. I've had a Zillion for 5 years now and it still is the smoothest reel I've ever used. The T3 is a great concept packaged in a cheap reel. Wait for the more refined future models.
From: Eric: WI
Comments: The T3B is quite honestly the best reel in its price range. Id take it any day over any of the competitor's offerings, hands down. I was skeptical of the t-wing at first, but it makes a HUGE different. The 3D breaking is very convenient and easy to use. It casts light lures no problem, on par if not better then the Sol. If you upgrade the spool bearings you will be amazing at what this little thing can do. You can pretty much spool yourself when using larger lures.
From: Daniel: NC
Comments: The T3B is my favorite new reel. I have given it hard use on inshore species in Georgia and Florida and found it to be a tough and stylish performer. I believe that it will become the new darling of reel hotrodders over it's service life. A great new real by Daiwa and the sweet spot it the 2012 plug caster's battery.
From: Forrest: GA
Comments: I bought this reel about 2 monthes ago, at first I was a little skecthed out, once I got used to this epic reel, I could not put it down, it will cast the smallest lures my rod can handle incredible distances, some times 2 far but I cant complain about that.
From: Steven: Deep South Florida
Comments: I got this reel for christmas and I am expremely happy with it. It casts a mile with 50lb braid and is very smooth. You can throw just about any bait with it with the huge amount of cast control settings and the Mag cast 3d one makes everything cast a country mile. You will not be disappointed with this reel and I highly recommend it over other reels in its price range. The Revo STX, Premier and the curado e7 are not as good as this one so pick one up and it will amaze you.
From: Trevor: Orlando, FL
Comments: Just got my T3 Ballistic today, and I have to say, I am very impressed. It is very compact, handles well, and is extremely comfortable. I look forward to fishing with it
From: Joe: International
Comments: I used this reel today and all i can say is amazing. The casting distance on this reel is great and with all the different settings you can say this is an all around reel!!!
