Daiwa T3 Casting Reels - $429.95
Packed with innovative features never before seen in a casting reel, the Daiwa T3 Casting Reel also weighs in at only 6.5oz. This is thanks in part to its revolutionary Zaion Carbon Frame and Sideplate, which offer lightweight strength and rigidity that rival that of Magnesium - except Zaion material doesn't corrode.
The reel's new Nitride Coated T-Wing Casting System also facilitates much longer, more accurate casting, as well as a more natural fall from your lures. During casting or free-spool mode, the cover (at the front of the reel) lifts up and the upper portion of T-shaped levelwind creates additional space for line to come more freely off the spool. This ensures significantly less friction than a standard levelwind, which forces line to funnel through a narrow opening. When the reel is re-engaged the cover closes down and guides the line through the narrow portion of the "T" levelwind - winding line like a traditional levelwind and providing the best of both worlds.
As if that wasn't enough, Daiwa also included their new Magforce 3D Cast Control System, which offers 20 fine tuning increments in 3 modes (Max Brake, All Around & Long Cast), yielding 60 stages of complete cast control for all conditions and situations. Ahead of its time - the Daiwa T3 takes baitcasting performance to the next level.
Additional Features:
-Ultimate Tournament Drag System
-Aluminum Swept Handle Arm
-Precision Spool, Pinion & Drive Gear (Made in Japan)
-Aluminum Worm Shaft
-Micro Click Drag Star
-Infinite Anti-Reverse
-Rugged 6-Point Drive Train Support
-One-Touch Open Side Plate
Weighing in at only 6.5oz, the Daiwa T3 Casting Reel is packed with Daiwa's most innovative new features including Daiwa's new Nitride Coated T-Wing Casting System for the longest and most accurate casting and the most natural fall from your lures.
Comments: How anyone could describe this sleek performer as "rubbish" (below) is beyond me. It is a casting machine that palms comfortably and can cast very light lures extremely well. Zaion and it's ilk is/are not my favorite reel build materials either, but it is something we will be seeing more of as the cost of material increases with inflation. Blame the high price point of this reel on the exchange rate more than Daiwa. Shimano pricing has been impacted negatively by this also. Anyway, I love my T-3 and T-3 Ballistic (the sweet spot) and I think that most will find them to be advanced in perfomance as well as styling.

Comments: This reel is pure rubbish. No water prove drag washer. No bearing supported levelwind worm gear. No bearing supported idle gear, no bearings supported knobs and Zaion just crack too easily. Would expect more from Daiwa. The side plate holding the mag-z brakes are "lock" onto the reel's frame with 3 thinly produce clutch.. after overhauling, the screws become loose and you have to drip a drop of loctite and let it dry till it's screw-able. A huge disappointment at this price point. Same goes to my friend's Zaion Fuego. Rubbish!
Yes, it does cast far.

Comments: Tried the JDM version. Awesome reel except for the following. Daiwa included a part with the reel to be glued to the frame. It appears to be designed to keep line from hitting a portion of the interior frame and wearing the Zaion material. Also, saw picture where braid grooved the front lip of the reel. So I am limiting use of mine to mono and flourocarbon until I hear more re these issues. Hopefully the US version will address this.Brakes work great. One of the easier Daiwas to tune, casts like a dream and balances perfectly on light rods.

Comments: to the guy below me.... the falcon bucoo is a beast - not to mention at a great price. Plus 429 bucks later doesn't help the cause.
Comments: to guy below me....why would you pair a t3 with a bucoo rod? At least pair it with the T7.
Comments: Very nice! The re-tooled T3s' hit the streets here in Japan about 2-weeks ago and I was lucky enough to pick one up. After pairing the 7.1:1 model with a Daiwa Zillion Flip Rod 7'6" Heavy, and 'Toray' 12lb 100% Fluorocarbon, I worked my way through the casting modes and must that this reel is outstanding! The Magforce 3D Cast Control System was flawless on my windy day at the lake, and with the T-Wing System, not reaching the other side the wide channel easily became a thing of the past. Advice to my fellow Anglers, if you don't already know it, learn the "backlash Thumb Trick" before using the T3 in the Long Cast mode. Only negative I experienced is the Magforce 3D's mode selection switch is a hair too long, which causes it to painfully bite into the lower part of the Index Finger when gripping tighter for better control. I encountered a similar problem with the lower [left side plate] screw retainer housing on Shimano's 200 & 300 series baitcasters. The protruding housing would dig into the palm just below the thumb. While not the STEEZ, the T3 is a close second when you consider weight and features. I have a T3 6.3:1 on order with Tackle Warehouse that I intend to pair with a Falcon BuCoo 7'6"M casting rod, also from Tackle Warehouse. Long story short, get the T3 and I'm sure you'll be impressed!
