Daiwa TD Luna Casting Reel
The Team Daiwa Luna is hands down Daiwa's finest traditional style round baitcasting reel to date, built for top-of-the-food- chain fish that require heavy line and the guts to crank them out of heavy cover. Everything in this reel is built from the finest materials available and incorporates Daiwa's top technology, gained from years of building great reels. For maximum strength and dead-on alignment, the frame and both sideplates are machined from solid barstock aluminum by some of the most advanced machining equipment in the world and the spool is cut from tough, lightweight aircraft aluminum. The drive train is completely supported by five Super Corrosion Resistant ball bearings and one instant anti-reverse roller bearing for smooth cranking. The precision gears are machine cut from top grade phosphor bronze and brass for long life and plenty of trouble-free cranking power.
For superior casting distance with the least effort, the Team Daiwa Luna offers anglers the exclusive Free-Floating Spool and Daiwa's Magforce-Z automatic magnetic anti-backlash control on the 103, 203, and 253 sizes and the Centriflex automatic centrifugal system on the 300 reel. Now, you can fine-tune your round baitcast reel quickly and easily for any lure and changing wind conditions. The Magforce-Z can be adjusted from the outside of the reel, and the Centriflex simply by removing the easy-off side plate. Daiwa has given anglers the convenient features previously found only on low-profile reels in a more powerful round reel. Need a reel for big swimbaits for heavy largemouth or calico bass off the West Coast or redfish in the Gulf? Do you hunt big muskies up north or stripers and bluefish in the bays and surf on the East Coast? The Daiwa Luna is built for you.

Comments: no round reel comes close to this baitcast reel. i have a calcutta te 200gt and this thing out performs 10 to 1. the magnetic cast control completely dumps on the centrifugal system. the only reel that might be better is the pluton but ill never be able to afford that. besides at this quality, this reel should be more than anything youll ever need. easy external access to the brake settings and the left side cover is also easily removed. plus when casting the line guide doesnt move, only while retrieving. the power handle is also a much bigger advantage over the calcuttas standard size handle. caught a 8 pound trout and it even wasnt a challenge. shimano may be good, but i still say this reel is much more worth it.
Comments: I use the TD Luna 253 with 80 yards of 30lb test to handle all my swimbait fishing. I have caught many largemouth up to 7lbs with this reel and a few monster stripers, one reaching 20lbs. I am using the reel for waaaay more than what it's size is designed for. I'm using the 253 to handle what the 300 should, with no problems. For freshwater swimbaits, you don't need tons of capacity. You don't need the crazy power handle. Use your rod to lift the heavy fish and reel down. The 10lbs of drag was plenty to tire out a 20lb striper in short order. The striper broke 17lb smart links on my triple trout but the reel still cranked in the fish and landed him on shore without problems. I can backlash a big heavy lunker punker with this reel when I mess up a cast and it does not break. Flat out a seriously solid fishing reel that is going to last you a very very long time! I'm trying to find a reason I don't like it so I can buy a Daiwa Pluton next but there is nothing about this reel I don't like!
Bombproof! Can't go wrong. Can't believe nobody else has reviewed this awesome piece of machinery cut from a solid block of metal by a CNC machine!
