Daiwa TD Luna Casting Reel - $279.99
The Team Daiwa Luna is hands down Daiwa's finest traditional style round baitcasting reel to date, built for top-of-the-food- chain fish that require heavy line and the guts to crank them out of heavy cover. Everything in this reel is built from the finest materials available and incorporates Daiwa's top technology, gained from years of building great reels. For maximum strength and dead-on alignment, the frame and both sideplates are machined from solid barstock aluminum by some of the most advanced machining equipment in the world and the spool is cut from tough, lightweight aircraft aluminum. The drive train is completely supported by five Super Corrosion Resistant ball bearings and one instant anti-reverse roller bearing for smooth cranking. The precision gears are machine cut from top grade phosphor bronze and brass for long life and plenty of trouble-free cranking power.
For superior casting distance with the least effort, the Team Daiwa Luna offers anglers the exclusive Free-Floating Spool and Daiwa's Magforce-Z automatic magnetic anti-backlash control on the 103, 203, and 253 sizes and the Centriflex automatic centrifugal system on the 300 reel. Now, you can fine-tune your round baitcast reel quickly and easily for any lure and changing wind conditions. The Magforce-Z can be adjusted from the outside of the reel, and the Centriflex simply by removing the easy-off side plate. Daiwa has given anglers the convenient features previously found only on low-profile reels in a more powerful round reel. Need a reel for big swimbaits for heavy largemouth or calico bass off the West Coast or redfish in the Gulf? Do you hunt big muskies up north or stripers and bluefish in the bays and surf on the East Coast? The Daiwa Luna is built for you.

Comments: By far my favorite round reel now that the Shimano TE's are history. Performs better in all aspects than the Shimano Calcutta B's and it is more ergonomic than the new D's. I am a long time Shimano user, but better is better! The magnetic brake works very well and is easy to adjust. If you need a functional piece of modern art to use on big, brutal fish, this is the reel.

Comments: I use this reel for swimbaiting, mostly at Diamond Valley Lake in Southern California. I use the 300L series for my biggest baits and the 253L for smaller wooden baits. If you prefer round reels, then buy this one! Casts great, excellent drag, and way more line capacity than you will need. Caught numerous 5-10 pounder Large Mouth Bass, and several Stripers over 20 pounds with these. No negatives to mention. Glad I got mine before the Diawa price increased...

Comments: My favorite swimbait reel. Bought 2 more

Comments: Bought this because I read alot good reviews on this reel. Also the Shimano Calcutta TE series are no more. So I ended up with this reel. And the reviews about this reel ended up all true. Over shadowed by the Calcuttas this whole time. I finally got a chance to use this reel. Use it in the Amazons,Gulf Coast, and Mexico. Hook some Tarpon,Golded Dorados,Wolfs,Roosters,Bull Reds, and Stripers all on this Luna. Hangs there with my Calcuttas and Curado 300s. But I did notice is casting lures 5oz and up after awhile can puts stress on this reel. Other than that its a beast. Looking for a 400 now. Thanx TW and big ups to Daiwa.

Comments: I recently bought the Luna 253 to get ready for the Calico bite down here in San Diego. Took it to the pier to do some practice runs with iron and soft swim baits. I can't express how well this reel casts - it tosses baits easily. You don't have to "muscle" it to get any kind of distance. The retrieve is butter smooth and feels like it has enough torque to pull the bass out of the kelp. Reel feels completely solid. I was thinking about saving up for the Calc TE but for my needs I feel the Luna is more than capable for what I'll be using it for.

Comments: no round reel comes close to this baitcast reel. i have a calcutta te 200gt and this thing out performs 10 to 1. the magnetic cast control completely dumps on the centrifugal system. the only reel that might be better is the pluton but ill never be able to afford that. besides at this quality, this reel should be more than anything youll ever need. easy external access to the brake settings and the left side cover is also easily removed. plus when casting the line guide doesnt move, only while retrieving. the power handle is also a much bigger advantage over the calcuttas standard size handle. caught a 8 pound trout and it even wasnt a challenge. shimano may be good, but i still say this reel is much more worth it.
Comments: I use the TD Luna 253 with 80 yards of 30lb test to handle all my swimbait fishing. I have caught many largemouth up to 7lbs with this reel and a few monster stripers, one reaching 20lbs. I am using the reel for waaaay more than what it's size is designed for. I'm using the 253 to handle what the 300 should, with no problems. For freshwater swimbaits, you don't need tons of capacity. You don't need the crazy power handle. Use your rod to lift the heavy fish and reel down. The 10lbs of drag was plenty to tire out a 20lb striper in short order. The striper broke 17lb smart links on my triple trout but the reel still cranked in the fish and landed him on shore without problems. I can backlash a big heavy lunker punker with this reel when I mess up a cast and it does not break. Flat out a seriously solid fishing reel that is going to last you a very very long time! I'm trying to find a reason I don't like it so I can buy a Daiwa Pluton next but there is nothing about this reel I don't like!
Bombproof! Can't go wrong. Can't believe nobody else has reviewed this awesome piece of machinery cut from a solid block of metal by a CNC machine!
