Great ReelI've owned alot of reels since 1975 but these new Diawa reels are something special. I own 4 of them now and once I set them they cast further and backlash free than any reel I've ever owned. That's why I have 4 now and plan on going Diawa all the way.

Previous Feedback

Comments: Casts well and the controls are fantastic. Almost never backlashes and if i do, its minimal. Its pretty easy to palm. Really good reel.

From: Unknown: 7/12/23

Comments: There's a reason these have been a around for so long, they're great reels. I've had an 8 speed reel for over 5 years used as a frog reel, and sometimes a jig reel and it's still strong and smooth. I use a 7 speed as a buzz bait, t rig, and spinnerbait reel, and my 6 speed for chatterbaits and cranks. I clean and lube them two times a year, and it keeps all three working great. These reels skip great, cast far easily, are very controlled while casting. My favorite in this price range.

From: Sir Finesse: 7/13/23

Comments: I have no beef with this reel. It has performed great and has caught me a lot of fish, but at its price point, there are better reels in the market. I recently got a Shimano Curado and Shimano Citica and I found that they cast more smoothly and have a more forgiving drag. If this reel was maybe $150ish I would lean more in favor of it, but as the way it is, Shimano kicks its butt.

From: Unknown: 7/3/23

Comments: Very smooth and versatile reel. Own over 10 of them and never had a problem! Easy to adjust the external spool tensioner and brakes. Highly recommend Daiwa products.

From: Brian: NH 6/7/23

Comments: Very well built reel. Extremely smooth.I will buy more !

From: Mark: Maryland 5/4/23

Comments: I own and frequently use my seven Diawa Tatula casting reels in different styles and speeds for different applications and absolutely love them. The quality and durability of these reels is great. Some are a little bulky for certain techniques but when used with the right rods and for the right technique, they're second to none at an affordable price point. I will forever be a fan of the Tatula line of reels and the rods are just as good.

From: Mando: Bakersfield, Ca 12/25/22

Comments: I own many Daiwa Tatula reels; ( SV TWS 103 HSL, XSL; Tatula Elites- HSL, XSL ). The SV TWS 103's are the old school reels, not the new one w/zero adjust. I bought my first one back in 2017 & fell in love w/it & w/baitcasters in general. I've always used spinning reels before that first purchase & have tried big round baitcasters w/centrifugal brakes in the past w/much difficulty dialing them in which kind of soured me from further use. After purchasing my first Daiwa w/magnetic braking, Air brake rotor combination I've never looked back which has changed my fishing experience forever. I have two different gear ratios w/two different line weights on expensive rods ( G. LOOMIS, ST. CROIX, EVERGREEN COMBAT STICK, ENIGMA IPPON) & these reels cast & skip everything effortlessly from unweighted flukes & worms to 1/2 & 3/4 oz. Chatterbaits, even pulled in a 34" northern pike on my elite on a m/h-fast action rod on 15lb. Fluorocarbon w/a steel leader. I have even caught a 10.11 lb. Channel cat on this rig. Neither of these rigs are really designed for these large fish 🐟 but these reels & rod set up s cranked in & fought this fish effortlessly. I will be purchasing another one of each of these reels in the future for a dedicated square bill rig w/another combat stick in glass & a heavy pitching & flipping rig on graphite. Tackle Warehouse has always had great customer service & damage free shipping, even through the supply chain crisis & I will be making my future purchases w/this company. Amazon even uses Tackle Warehouse for their product inventory. For a beginner, contemplating purchasing a baitcaster, in my opinion there is no better reel out of all the different manufacturers w/the ease of use, getting over the learning curve, than the Daiwa Tatula SV TWS 103. I think shimano, which has been using cheaper components for the last few years in there middle price range reels ( under $250 ), both spinning & baitcasting, has it s fan boy base & are highly overrated! Daiwa's are the smoothest, most durable, most reliable, easiest to use baitcasters period! When consistently maintained these reels can very well be hand-me-downs to future generations of young fisherman & women for years of fun & excitement on the water. Thank you for allowing me to give this long winded review. Michael J.

From: Michael J.: Willowbrook,Illinois 11/30/22

Comments: Had this reel for a couple of months and issues with the thumb release started. Send it back to Daiwa for repair. They wanted to charge me for a part and a charge for cleaning it. Had the dealer I bought it from call them. They would then cover the part but I had to pay for the cleaning for a two month old reel. Would not buy a daiwa reel again because of its warranty.

From: Joel: MI 11/24/22

Comments: I got this reel to Throw Squarebill crankbaits. I was practicing for a regional tournament and fell in the lake With my rod and new reel in hand. No kidding! Needless to say the reel kept casting just fine after being under brackish water. Will buy more when my wife isn't looking!!

From: JC: Central OH 11/2/22

Comments: Best $200 reel on the market. Very easy to dial in and butter smooth. I've taken my skipping game to the next level. Killer reels. Thank you, Daiwa!

From: SB: Va 10/27/22

Comments: I've had the 7.3 for a couple years now. There are areas where this reel excels but there are a couple drawbacks for me. This is easily the best reel I've owned for skipping. I can also make bomb casts and I don't have to thumb the spool at all. It's a smooth reel but definitely not the smoothest in my arsenal. Now for the slight negatives. I don't love the ergonomics on this reel. I own larger reels that just seem to palm better than this thing. It's fine for chunking and winding but I don't care for it for baits that need to be worked (jerkbaits, topwater). It also has a really weird tendency to backlash every now and then for no reason at all. There's been times where I've thrown the same bait 60 or 70 times with no issue then out of nowhere I backlash. No matter how tight I have it locked down I'll just get a random backlash and I've never had that issue on any of my other reels once they're dialed in. Overall it's a nice reel but I like some of the other options in this price range a bit more.

From: Unknown: 10/8/22

Comments: I use these reels on all applications from finesse fishing with 6 lb line through to heavy pitching with 60 lb braid and everything in between. The reels have been used and abused but have never let me down over the past 4 years. Moved from the Shimano camp to the Diawa camp and very happy and impressed - not going back.

From: Roland : South Africa, Zimbabwe 9/7/22

Comments: I picked up one of these reels about a year ago and have loved it. I've used it for a lot of different things from frogging, throwing small shallow diving plugs, and skipping weightless soft baits. 50lb braid all the way down to 10lb floro work great on these. Highly recommend these reels for just about any application.

From: Tanner: North Carolina 7/17/22

Comments: This Daiwa Tatula is amazing. They have it figured out, smoothest reel in my boat. I do own a lot of high end reels, this reel above comparison to them. I am going to be ordering more Diawas, to replace the other reels for sure!!!. I used this reel last week in a derby, most of the day, had to change lures several times, cause I just couldn't get away from the Diawa, this reel is full of SKILLS FOR A WHOLE LOT OF SITUATIONS! You will not be disappointed when you get you one: TATULA SV TW 103XS . TRUST ME.

From: Chuck: Jacksonville, FL 5/20/22

Comments: Awesome reel!! Works unbelievably well for pitching and skipping. I own a lot of high end reels from the top companies and this one wins by a landslide. It's really amazing how it has nearly eliminated backlash especially and I've definitely put it to the test. I'd recommend this one to anyone!

From: Mel: Indiana 5/16/22

Comments: This is the best reel on the market hands down. It casts smoothly and the anti backlash system is excellent. You can cast a small minus 1 crankbait a mile with these things.

From: Unknown: 5/7/22

Comments: Ole Brandon Palaniuk recommended this reel at the elite series on the St. John's river for flipping and pitching. I'm a sucker for a suggestion but this thing does not disappoint in the slightest. Casting and retrieving, it' smooth as butter. My only regret is I only have one; for now that is.

From: Joe K: Georgia 3/28/22

Comments: I've been moving towards exclusively daiwa reels, and this one seems to be in my hand majority of the time. It is an extremely versatile reel with a great braking system that adjusts to a wide range of lure weights. I throw mostly moving baits from shallow/medium cranks and spinnerbait/chatterbaits, and it tunes perfectly to all of my needs. If you're on the fence, you can purchase with confidence. It feels comparable to a higher end reel at half the price.

From: TP: Illinois 3/7/22

Comments: I was unsure because I usually use shimano but they were pretty much sold out. Got this one to match up with a diawa rod. Only used it on a couple of trips but cast smooth and no back lashes. Makes me wonder it I shouldn't be buying more diawa baitcasters. I've always liked there rods and some of there spinning reels but also had some spinning reels break after a few years. The 2 baitcasters I have are doing well. I like this reel.

From: Kevin : Pacifica, CA 2/25/22

Comments: Got the 8.1. Reel is amazing. I was worried because it's a previous model, but I still use my Tatula Type R every trip and love that so I figured this previous model SV would be good also. And I was right. I like it better than my Tatula Elite. The 8.1 is perfect for speed worms and spinnerbaits. It casts very well. Silent. Smooth. Nice long casts. I've managed to switch from all Shimano to all Daiwa Baitcasters. I put a Gomexus 100mm handle on it and it's perfect.

From: Bill: Fort Lauderdale, FL 2/2/22

Comments: thought these were a good reel performacne wise, until dealing with Daiwa warranty. Reel was used less then 4 months and they wanted to charge me for repairing and also for cleaning the reel. Won't be buying Daiwa reels because they won't stand by their product. Very disappointed.

From: Unknown: 1/29/22

Comments: Was kind of hesitant to drop 200 on a reel being as I've never been a Daiwa guy. However, after taking it out the first time, I don't regret it. Probably the best reel for 200 that I've purchased. It's a little bigger than the Shimano in the same class, but all in all, definitely the smoothest reel I've purchased.

From: Joey : Chattanooga, TN 1/20/22

Comments: Great product for the money. This reel really shines when throwing small diameter line and light lures. Reel tunes so precise... almost no chance for backlash. I own 8!!

From: Unknown: 1/6/22

Comments: Great reel for the money. Smooth, easy to tune in. Great reel for the price point. Mine is currently on my spinnerbait rod because of the ability to tune it in and long casts to cover water.

From: Rich: Pennslyvania 12/16/21

Comments: Bought 2 of these reels to replace old quantum's that I've had for years. Only fished with these reels twice. Very smooth and casting is amazing even in the wind with little to no backlashes. From light lures to heavy lures they impressed me all around. So far I would give these 10 out of 10. Now time will tell the rest I just hope they last.

From: John : Montgomery, AL 12/8/21

Comments: I own 4 of these reels. Thought they were great. Have had 2 break in less than 2 months of owning them. One, the reel just stopping reeling like the it was super glued. The secondbroke this weekend at a toysfortots tourney? When casting it, you hear a load "clank, clank, clank". Very dissapointed. I do not know if it was just a bad manufactering batch or not but still leaves a bad taste.

From: Paul: Hanahan 12/5/21

Comments: I have three of these reels in 3 different gear ratios and they are all excellent! The color coding between each ratio is a nice touch.

From: Brian: Glenville, NY 11/20/21

Comments: Bought myself this reel a few months ago and love it. Easy to set up and use. Wife wanted to learn how to use it so I let her have at it. She had no issues and even caught a nice bass as well. So I bought one just for her paired up with the Tatula rod and she thinks she is a pro now. This should sum it up about how awesome this reel is.

From: Cliff: Rocky Face GA 10/14/21

Comments: A guide on a fishing trip to michigan put me on this reel and needless to day when I got by home I bought one. Perfect reel no problems at all!!!

From: Dave: WV 9/12/21

Comments: I am a big Daiwa fan and I needed something less expensive than another Steez. This reel is easy to dial in and casts wonderfully. I wish it had a deeper spool but it's not that big of a deal. I'd have to say it's my favorite reel in this price range. I have fished some Lews and Some Curados that were very nice but for me personally I like this tatula model better. Would definitely recommend!

From: Luke: California 8/28/21

Comments: I own 2 of these and they are really nice and smooth. I highly recommended them.

From: Donnis: Menifee, CA 8/21/21

Comments: Currently own 8 of these reels. They are absolutely amazing. My only complaint is the break tends to adjust when I set the hook. Otherwise, great reel with excellent drag and castability. Will replace all of my CTs with the SV.

From: Pete: Miami, FL 8/11/21

Comments: I purchased two of these and mounted one of them on a Dobyns DC 736CB GLASS chatter bait rod. The TWS system performs well. It appears to be a robust reel and fits my large hand well. The overall engineering and ergonomics  in my opinion is traditional Diawa. Better than Lews maybe not as refined as a Shimano Curado. Thats my two cents for what its worth. Very good reel.

From: Pete: Miami, FL 8/11/21

Comments: I recently bought two of them I've always been a Shimano fan but I must say this reel is phenomenal for the price. I highly recommend this reel casting is unbelievable drag is phenomenal if you buy the reel you won't be disappointed.

From: David: Newnan, GA 6/25/21

Comments: I love this reel. I am not a spinning set up kind of guy and this reel allows me to cast the lightest of setups including the ned rig just as far and easily as anyone around using a spinning set up. I can't say enough good things about this reel. Paired with the right rod this reel can do whatever you're wanting it to.

From: Mark: Newark, IL 6/18/21

Comments: This is the smoothest reel i have ever used. You will need to clean the factory grease and re-grease with some quality grease as well as oil the bearings and spool. There are plenty of you tube videos to show how. It is a great reel right out of the box but to make it better clean it and re-lube it. I have several of each speed. You won't be disappointed.

From: Unknown: 6/3/21

Comments: This is a great reel overall! It can do many things good, but not great. I had my SV spooled all the way up and I almost used my entire spool on a single cast. I believe where this reel excels is pitching and flipping, skipping docks, and roll cast (on a short rod). It's not going to be a bomber reel to throw crankbaits, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits.

From: Justin: Unknown 5/29/21

Comments: Nice size in the hand.  Cast smooth and long.

From: Unknown: Frankfort, IL 5/22/21

Comments: Great reel as long as you don't fish braided line with leaders.  I have this reel for my frog rod and love it, purchased another for reaction rod, the leader knot gets stuck on the t-bar system.

From: Tom: Texas 5/17/21

Comments: This reel is one of the best period. It's not far off from the steez!  It's barely on the heavy side but it out performs most reels accept the higher class shimanos and daiwas. Everything else imho is behind. This is the absolute best in its class and beyond and I have them all. Some will not like the weight though but it does not bother me and I catch fish all day long, haha!

From: Jess: Lake Michigan: MI 5/8/21

Comments: This reel is amazing, it really makes a difference casting in the wind and makes skipping much easier. I have had a bunch of reels the past few years and I believe this is the best reel in the price point by far. I have around 3 months in them so far with no problems so only time will tell how they hold up.

From: Brandon: Beckley, WV 5/7/21

Comments: Everything its cracked up to be. It casts a country mile and nearly impossible to backlash. Great reel, great price, exceptional daiwa quality. Do yourself a favor and buy one !!!!

From: Brandon: Sioux City, IA 4/16/21

Comments: The reel is very smooth. very nice quality  i would gladly buy it again

From: Wayne: Creral Springs 3/31/21

Comments: This is my 1st reel in this price range and I love it. Blows my cheaper Lew's reels away. It really is tough to backlash this reel. I'd recommend and would buy again.

From: Unknown 3/28/21

Comments: Wow. If there is 1 word to describe this reel, it would be VERSATILE. Jerkbaits , chatterbaits , spinnerbaits .. it casts out like a dream. Then 5 minutes later I could tie on a Texas rig or a soft plastic swim bait and cast out just fine. The T-Wing system is super innovative and reduces backlash for sure. SV spool is buttery smooth. The reel itself isn't bulky and I personally like that. I feel like I have control and better rod feel because of it. I bought the 6:3:1. For $200.. this reel is a NO BRAINER. They could EASILY sell this for more. I plan on getting a bunch more. Highly recommend!

From: Jason: Pennsylvania 3/26/21

Comments: This is extremely versatile reel.  It can handle light lures to heavy without making breaking adjustments.  I can skip and then make a long cast.  It is how the breaking system is designed and works very well.  Even when I torpedo a lure 6 ft in front of me skipping the backlash is minimal compared to using other casting reels.  Daiwa Tatula is super easy to set up.  Spool tension is set at the factory and you can set the break dial to 10 on the side cover and nearly forget about it for any line and lure size.  Price is more than what most beginners to baitcast reels would want to spend but the reel is worth it.  It limits backlashes and still allows for long casts with very minimal adjustments.  Extremely versatile reel for experienced fisherman.  The reel casts quietly and smooth and the retrieve is quiet and effortless.  I don't have any complaints.

From: JHuck: Texas 3/19/21

Comments: I'm a lews guy all the way with my reels, bought one of these Daiwa' s and I love it , smooth , handles big bass with ease , barley ever get a backlash as well.

From: Troy: Glenburnie, MD 3/15/21

Comments: Got this reel to add to a new rod I had got on sale. Spooled it with 16lb Sunline fluoro. Fished it a few times so far and got to say I love it. Use it for pitching jigs mostly. Set right can skip jigs with no problem. Would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one.

From: Chad: 2/17/21

Comments:
Long time Shimano guy, but decided to give Daiwa reels a shot after buying (and loving) some of their Tatula Elite Signature Series rods. I bit this reel as a pitch/flip reel for jigs and couldn't be happier. It's buttery smooth, feels solid in my hands, and does a great job overall. This is my third Daiwa reel, and so far, no complaints or issues with any of them. Great addition to my lineup.

From: Brandon: Kingwood, TX 2/14/21

Comments: Vince from Illinois is right on with his review bin fishing for 40 plus years the reel casts like butter

From: Jim: Indiana 2/13/21

Comments: I always saw the value in this reel's performance, but the other day I did something I'd been meaning to do for awhile. I've got the Tatula SV TWS on a Dobyns Sierra 733c rod, and I'm spooled with 20 lb. Sufix 832 braid and a 6 foot 12 lb Sufix fluoro leader tied with an FG knot. I like to fish a 4/0 Gamagatsu Superline EWG worm hook set up with a 5â Senko Texas rigged weightless, and I wanted to check casting distance. I stood in the driveway and made a cast with no wind, set the rod down and measured the distance. That weightless (Other than the 4/0 Gammy EWG Superline hook) Senko traveled 86 feet. I duplicated that cast several times within a few inches. To me that's a monster cast, and I believe there are guys out there doing better than that. It's smooth as butter, and it's a fun and enjoyable little reel to use I'm not a high end reel guy, but I buy the best equipment I can justify and afford. This reel has been as good as advertised. I have now added another SV and an Elite, with the plan to upgrade several other reels to Tatulas as well.

From: Vince: Illinois 1/7/21

Comments: This is my favorite model baitcaster by any manufacturer I've tried. Have four of them. Casts any bait easily with minimal adjustment. Haven't tried the DC Shimano's yet so may have reason to change my mind but for now this is my go to baitcaster.

From: Jeff: Auburn, NE 1/3/21

Comments: Just a fabulous reel.. Loved my old team Daiwas but they were flat wearing out after decades of use. The newer Daiwa tatula sv tws brings it all with farther casting and less backlashes.  Very happy with the tatula sv tws casting reels.. Have every speed, nice to have more choices, and keep my reels standardized.. Thank you Daiwa.  last but not least, hats off to you tackle warehouse, you have all the quality we ask for, and your delivery time is phenomenal.

From: John: 12/28/20

Comments: This reel is ultra smooth and casts easily. I am in the process of replacing all my reels with this model.

From: Jay: Eustis 12/24/20

Comments: The number one word I would use to describe this reel is smooth. The casting is super smooth, every detail is really nice, and it doesn't have any tacky spider decals anywhere. So far I haven't put this thing through the wringer, but it looks like it could hold up to years of abuse with very nice operation over it's lifetime.I currently have it set up braid to flouro leader and use it for jigging, some crankbaits, and smaller swimbaits on a 7'6" Expride MH Rod.

From: Nathan: Friona, TX 12/15/20

Comments:I have always been a Shimano fan, however this is my favorite reel for its diversity. You can throw heavy lures as well as super lite. Smoothness is amazing. The quality is also second to none. My favorite reel now. Tight Lines!

From: Drew: Columbia 12/14/20

Comments:If your looking for a reel to skip with and stay around $200 it's definitely one of your best options. The SV spool makes for some really good skipping, but it can also bomb a lipless crankbait fairly far too. The only issue I've had with mine, after a couple of seasons, were the bearings on the spool shaft went out from being completely dry. I would recommend upgrading them for $20-$30 and it's an incredible reel. Haven't tried the new ones, but these are a good reliable.

From: Isaac: Salt Lake City, UT 11/23/20

Comments: Awesome reel! So smooth and it casts a mile. Would definitely buy again.

From: Dan: Orlando, FL 11/20/20

Comments:I wrote a review on these 2020 reels on 5/28 about halfway through the season. At that time I had 4 of these reels. I believe i am up to 9 of them now. I honestly think these reels are the sweet spot for price vs performance. I can count on 1 hand the number of backlashes I have had this year, and I haven't once blown up a spool bad enough that I had to retire the reel for the day.

From: Rob: Georgia 11/17/20

Comments:Tatula 103. Has been very good, used it about 10 times. The adjustments are very easy to go to small to large baits. I like the small size of reel.

From: Mel: Kingsland, TX 11/15/20

Comments:Went from a curado dc to this and I love it. Been buying all the tatulas and love them all pretty much equally so far. Definitely recommend.

From: Carl - Crandon, WI 10/4/20

Comments:I bought this rod at the start of summer 2020. I bought the 7 foot medium for a all around rod. When fishing crankbaits its a little too light for me but I have since then used it for senkos, texas rigs and chatterbaits and I've been able to pull up a couple 3-5 pounders with the rod. I haven't experienced any guide trouble like everyone is talking about. Overall a great rod for $80.

From: Rick - 10/03/20

Comments: Great reel. I've always been a Shimano guy but this reel has converted me to Diawa. 7.3 ratios have been great, the 8.1 Gabe me some trouble and I've heard the same from others. As my old reels are retired, this is what I will purchase.

From: John: Mt Pleasant, SC 9/26/20

Comments:One of the best value all around baitcast reels you can get and I also fish with Shimano's middle to high end reels... highly recommend!

From: Hans M: 6/20/20

Comments:This is a fantastic reel. Hands down one of the toughest reels ive ever owned. I catch bullseye snakeheads down here in Florida and there are very few reels that can hold up to countless abuse to these fish, this reel happens to be one of them. The only downside I find in this reel is it's not that smooth after fishing it awhile. But everything else is there for sure. Casting, drag, it's super light and hold and cast any pound braid up to 65LB and also it can cast just about any lure light to midrange. This has to be the best all around reel ive owned so far in that it can cover a while such a wide range of applications.

From: J: Lake Worth, FL 2/22/20

Comments:After a bit of coaxing from a friend of mine I bought one of these in a 7:1 ratio. I am absolutely impressed with how easy this reel casts. It is effortless and saves my arm over the day when casting moving baits. It also reels effortlessly even with hard to pull baits. I will be buying a few more as a few of my other reels go out of service.

From: Bill: Wisconsin 11/25/19

Comments: I'm not one to go out and spend over two hundred dollars on a fishing reel, but once I got into baitcasting it became obvious that Diawa was in a league all their own. After purchasing my first baitcaster - a Diawa Tatula CT - I was more convinced by its performance that these reels were well worth the price. I decided after countless backlashes that I would drop the coin on the SV TW and see if the hype about this reel was, well...real. After spooling up with power pro and pairing it with a Diawa Aird X 7' MH I went out and started casting. Simply put, I was blown away. The reel can cast a country mile or further, depending on your adjustments. I've been fishing baitcasters for a while now so I had both the brakes and tension turned down pretty low. To test it out I even casted into the wind several times and not one backlash. Not that it matters to the fish, but it's also a handsome reel, especially paired with the Aird X. Was it worth the money? I would say definitely yes, providing you're not just a weekend fisherman and are serious about the gear you use. Has it made a difference in my fishing overall? Again, I would say yes. I can cast anywhere I want with precision, the drag is superb and with the gear ratio (mine is a 6.3.1) I can cast squarebills, jerkbaits and chatterbaits all day long. So if you're on the fence, like I was, step on down and buy this reel.

From: Doug: Michigan 11/4/19

Comments: I waited to review this reel until I had 2 seasons of use on my 7.3:1 and 8.1:1 speed versions. I primarily use the 8 speed reel for jigs/T-Rigs, jerkbaits, and some top water, and the 7 speed for most other applications. One thing I noticed is the strength of the 8.1:1 reel. It has no problem under the pressure of fighting large fish. I had some problems with other super fast reels feeling a little weak under pressure, but not this reel. The SV casts beautifully, even in windy conditions. These reels are very easy reels to cast with in general, allowing for long accurate casts without any issues. I seem to keep the dial at 6-8 for almost every presentation. The retrieve is very smooth, as is the drag. The handle is very comfortable, with nice grips. These are some beautiful looking reels. I also have a few Tatula 150 reels that are also incredible. Daiwa makes some nice stuff.

Comments:Easily my favorite reel in this price range that I have ever owned. Smooth as silk and skips lures like a dream. I'm slowly replacing every reel I have with these.

From: Tyler: KY 9/20/19

Comments:Finally bit the bullet after a few years of looking at them and bought one. Literally within the first few casts It made my other reels (mainly Abu Garcia) feel "meh." This was hands down the best reel purchase I have ever made. Spooled it with some 8lb mono and I can literally throw everything from the tiny Rebel cricketcrankbait all the way up to decent-size glide/swimbaits. So far, I have nothing bad to say about it, which is nuts!

From:Luke: Northern, CA 9/6/19

Comments:The reel is great, I replaced all of my Currados with Tatula's just because of casting performance. I had an issue taking the spool out of one of mine, I kind of messed it up a bit - totally my fault - I sent it into Diawa for repair - the reel was returned to me in exactly 1 week (Monday to Monday), reassembled with new parts - no charge!!!I can't believe Diawa's customer service - Totally exceeded my expectations.I am sold on Diawa!!!

From: Brad:Hidden Valley Lake, CA7/22/19

Comments:Read about the reel, reviews, etc. I was skeptical but pulled the trigger anyway. I now cast farther with way way fewer backslashes. A $200 reel should be pretty decent but this reel is way beyond decent.I have purchased more to replace other reels as the budget allows. Thanks Daiwa for the best reel I have ever owned. (I own many some being pretty new higher priced than the Tatula SV TWS.)

From:Bill: Missouri 7/3/19

Comments:The reel is awesome I bought it along with a Curado dc and it is everything I expected the dc spook in my opinion is the way to go.

From:David: CA 6/23/19

Comments:Bought the SV TW 6:3 mounted on a Diawa Aird X 7' MHF rod. This setup is insane. I have a Tatula CT and if I cast into the wind I usually get backlashes. Casting into the wind with the SV TW and no backlashes. That's just nuts. Reel is super smooth, casts like a dream and has that extra backbone to haul in the mondos. If you're on the fence about spending $200 bucks on a fishing reel, get down and buy this baby. I'm not rich, just one of America's working poor, but I treated myself to this reel and do not regret it one bit.Just the other day I had the line slipping on my SV. No matter how hard I tightened the drag, the line would still spool off. Contacted Diawa support and they helped me figure out the problem - I had just spooled up with braid but had no backer. I added some mono tied off to the spool and my braid and problem solved.Five stars all around for the reel and their support.

From: Unknown 6/5/19

Comments:These reels are great. I bought one last year, but did not realize its full range potential until this year. Few of my local parks have mostly dinker size bass, up to 15in average. I spooled my SV with 4lb mono and mounted it on a 6' crappie UL casting rod. Using a 3in stick worm rigged on an Aberdeen crappie hook, this combo worked like charm. I was able to cast that small worm weightless reasonable distance, and plenty far for the bass, then once hooked those 12in bass feel like monsters, and the drag is very smooth protecting the light line. These reels also work well for standard bass tackle too, but really shine in the light line situation.

From: Jeremy:Iowa5/4/19

Comments:I use this reel in the ocean for Spotted Bay Bass and for light duty Calico Bass fishing. Light weight, super smooth and long casts! Spooled it up with J-Braid Grand 30# and it is great little workhorse!!!

From: Jayson Quimby:Huntington Beach3/26/19

Comments:This thing is awesome! It's a bit heavy for reels in the $200 range, but it is aluminum construction. You can feel the quality in every cast and turn of the handle.I've been a lew's guy as of late, but I absolutely love this reel.Daiwa has always made quality....I still have a rod and reel I bought in 1990 and it's still going strong.

From: Rob:Illinois 3/16/19

Comments:Daiwa does it again. Such a great reel. Love the SV spool. This reel is so versatile, you can put 6lb line or 20LB line and it will still work great. Feels just perfect in your palm. Just can't say enough good things about this reel. At $200 it definitely is comparable to other reels i own in the $400 and up range in my opinion. A+

From: Joel:Philadelphia, PA2/18/19

Comments:Honestly this is THE best reel in the $200 bracket . It's actualy nicer then some of my $300 reels . Highly recommend the SV TW

From: Dean - Las Vegas, NV 12/25/18

Comments:I purchased this reel last year and all I can say is wow what a great piece of equipment. The reel itself is extremely lightweight and just looks cool in your hands. All around it feels great in your hand (I have small hands and I can palm this thing pretty darn well). Cast control is amazing and once you dial it in you literally never have to thumb the spool...almost zero backlashes. In fact this reel almost forces you to not chuck the bait as hard in order for it to GO LONGER. Pretty amazing technology for the price.I am primarily using this (8.1 version) as my jig reel, paired it up with a Tatula elite Med/Heavy all purpose rod, and have recently started learning to skip with it. I typically use the dial at 7 for long bomb casts and then crank it up to about 16 for skipping. Wow the control you have on skipping is just amazing. Yes if you throw it directly into the water you will birds nest but if you skip properly it will skip for days.On almost all of my setups I use braid to leader with a blood knot and I have to say that sometimes the blood knot will get stuck in the t-wing system if you don't keep winding. Not a huge problem but if your leader gets kind of small it can become a nuisance. Overall I love this reel and will be purchasing another one, probably a 6.3 for cranking / spinnerbait, it just is so good for the price.

From: Chris:Birmingham, Alabama10/25/18

Comments:One of the best quality reels in the $200 usd range, I would definitely recommend it!

From: Unknown - 10/23/18

Comments:I have to say that the cast control is pretty good (make sure that you don't turn it down to 0, you will get a birds nest).I'm not sure that this is the furthest casting reel I own, but once it's dialed in, you can really focus on casting accuracy rather than thumbing the spool. I would rather have this than my Abu Revo Premier (Gen3), and I can't decide whether I want it on my finesse jig rod or my topwater plug rod.One of them will have to get a Shimano Curado 70, and other than the palmability of that reel, I prefer this one in every way.Not crazy about the T-wing line guide, but the SV spool is definitely money.

From: Roy:Vienna, VA 10/2/18

Comments:I hadn't purchased any baitcasters since circa 2002 - when I got some Team Daiwa reels with "Made in Japan" stamped on the bottom (they were Tackle Tour Editor's Choice winners as well, btw).I maintained these lovingly and meticulously every single year, and they're still quite good...but I wanted to see how the new bells and whistles offered by this reel performed. The answer is that they're awesome. These things cast great.I hope they're as robust as my old TD reels.I'm starting to think the Tackle Tour guys are pretty dog-gone trustworthy.

From: Brad Quillen:Burnsville, NC 8/6/18

Comments:I've been bass fishing for over 50 years and this is the best reel I've ever had! I've got Revo SX's, Lew's Tournament Pro G's, MB's, Mach II and Shimano Citicas. They are all very good reels, but this SV TW system is superior to all of them. Bought my first SV TW for light lures and Ned Rigs. I've since purchase two more to replace some of my other reels.

From: John - Helotes, TX 7/10/18

Comments:So I finally try a Daiwa , and I'm more than happy!! I recently got the 8.1.1.. purple.. breaks wer easy to set up , performance is awesome .. I put it on a flipping / punching set up.. I would never recommend anyone to buy something I wouldn't buy my self, and I will be buying more!! I started with Shimano, and have plenty Shimano reels, felt outta pocket buying anything different, but these sv's are the S#!T.... if your thinking about it? Just do it..

From: Justin P:Plenty of fish MN6/16/18

Comments:Very good reels. Bought both the SV along with a Curado K. After using both reels, I'll say both are great. The K out casts the SV, and is bit smaller in hand. Otherwise the SV is much easier to set up. It seems slightly hindered in casting distance. Good brakes but they seem almost too much. Not knocking the reel, it is very good. Smoother than silk too. Just depends what it is used for. Quality seems good.

From: Jeremy:Iowa6/10/18

Comments:I have many Daiwa Tatula reels, equally divided between CT' s and original Tatulas. I've gotten heavily into skipping and wanted to try the Tatula SV. I bought the 8.1 retrieve. As with any baitcaster, it took a little fiddling to get it dialed in. But once past that introduction stage, it's been a love affair. The frame size is about like the CT, so it palms very comfortably. In terms of general casting, it's great, but that's not the reason to buy this reel. The CT R's cast farther and just as trouble free, and they are a little cheaper. So for general purposes, I recommend the CT R. HOWEVER, if skipping is your objective, the Tatula SV is amazing. Most any good baitcaster can be adjusted to skip well, and certainly that applies to both Tatula models, standard and CT. Where the SV shines is when the unexpected occurs. I'm talking about a great skip that is smoothly sliding under a dock, and abruptly stops when it hits a hidden dock piling. As any experienced dock-skipper knows, that can produce an epic backlash. Same for the occassion lousy casts that crash into the water at too steep an angle, or when you hit a boat wake you didn't notice. Those are the times that even the pros carry an extra spool of line for. But the SV reacts so fast when the spool suddenly stops, I seldom get more than a few loose coils, where, with other reels, I'd be faced with an epic birds nest. That's why you should buy this reel. It's absolutely amazing. And, as with the many Tatulas I own, it's rock solid, smooth and dependable.

From: Ted Kaufman:Greenville, SC5/28/18

Comments:I purchased my first Tatula TWS in April'18 - I just picked up my second! Casting distance is crazy far (seriously) and the reel is so forgiving... Its not magic, and backlash is still possible - but you have to try extra had with the Tatula! Anyone (anyone) will be happy with this baitcaster, line capacity isn't great - but as I spend most of my time pitching and flipping, so having 200yds of line on my reel isn't necessary. I have half a dozen other baitcasters - i intend to replace them all...Both my Tatulas are paired with Falcon rods - outstanding combination

From: Lee - Chicago 5/25/18

Comments:Great reel. Put it against a Curado K. Both TCS rod, 20lb Sunline Supernatural. Tatula is way easier to set up, very nice. For me ease is big, I prefer simple. Compared to a Tat CT, it is more refined, casting distance between the two are similar. The Curado K is very solid, it's really just personal taste and feel. I also own Gen 3 Revo's, Beast, Rocket, and Premier, and love them all lol. They all pull bass in well. You can't go wrong with the Tatula SV.

From: Jeremy5/12/18

Comments:Bought one and love it. Ergonomically it has a great feel and has the same amazing quality that I have come to expect from Daiwa. I think its a step up from the Tatula Type-R at the same price point. I will be buying more.

From:Unknown: 5/16/18

Comments:This reel is amazing. Took me 30 mins and I fell in love and hopped online looking to buy another one. It was extremely easy to dial in breaks and then it casted a balsa wood crank bait and a 1/2 football job with no adjustments and zero thumb on the spool when hitting water. Not a cm of over turn. Almost backlash proof of ya ask me. Smooth and comes perfectly lubed out of the box. I now have two and they flat out rock!!!

From: Cory:Michigan 5/2/18

Comments:AWESOME REEL! I got this reel in the 7:3:1 gear ratio. I paired it with a Dobyns Sierra 7'3 heavy rod. So far fished jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits with this reel. I've caught lots of bass, northern pike, and walleyes with this reel. It can cast them very far, and is very smooth. I put this reel into a lighter rod when I fish jerkbaits for walleyes, because it can cast so far. Highly recommend this reel.

Comments:Caution be prepared to have sudden urges to trash all of your old reels after use of the TWS SV

From: Matthew - Madison, MS 4/28/18

Comments:Fantastic reel. Paired up with a Tatula Elite AGS 7' finesse rod, it's the perfect combo for lightweight applications, as well as many others. It's lightweight, cast weightless presentations a long way without any over run, has a high end look and feel, and just flat out performs. Integrating the SV system into the Tatula platform was a great move by Daiwa. I don't see myself using anything but Tatula SV and CT reels because of the sheer value and performance. Go Daiwa!

From: David: Ohio 3/20/18

Comments:Hats off to Daiwa! This is a phenomenal reel. Sold 7of my Metaniums and Chronarch MGLs to replace them with the Tatula SV TW. Control, distance, backlash free...amazing! I oiled them lightly when they arrived and it's as smooth as one could ask for. Is a little heavier than some high end reels, but still very light with great ergonomics. Highly recommended!

From:Marc: Raleigh, NC 3/1/18

Comments:First of all I love this reel. It is absolutely an upgrade over the CT and CT R versions. I can actually backlash it trying to learn how to skip jigs in my pool. But for everything else it's awesome. I have 2 both are 8.1 : 1 gear ratio, one for pitching punching duty the other bottom contact. The bottom contact reel is on a 7'4" ALX Zolo Brawler and balances right at the hook keeper about 3 inches in front of reel the other is on a Tatula and it's perfect.
No my one and only concern is the high ratios might be a bit of a problem for some. While I haven't caught any trophy fish with them yet I have had to wench a few through covet and was really surprised at the lack of power. Yes I know these are high ratio reels. I tried a test by putting one reel on a crank bait rid and using a LuckyCraft flat side deep diving (12ft I think) cb I wanted to test the resistance. It was no problem cranking even at relatively mod-high speeds but burning the bait seemed like a barrier was broken and suddenly the reel was exponentially harder to reel. I will probably return the unused reel I have for the next ratio down because I can see a bad digging into some grass at the end of a long cast being an issue. Smooth compact Loong trouble free casting what more can you ask.

From: Mark H: Flower Mound, TX 2/24/18

Comments:The SV spool with the "air-brake" is amazing. It does better than advertised. However, there is one thing that it does that no other reel spool will. And that is feed out the line AFTER the cast and you're waiting for your jig, worm, or any other bait to fall to the desired level. Ever cast your lure out and as soon at it hits you start ripping line from your spool to guarantee a straight down free fall??? You no longer have to with this reel. After lure touch down this spool will allow the lure to fall straight down with no intervention. That insures as soon as your bait hits bottom you have no additional slack to take up before you start your retrieve. That, folks, is amazing and cutting edge. Kudos to Daiwa.

From: Rick: Shuqualak 2/21/18

Comments:Yes, these reels are that good. Casts stupidly well, has that Daiwa effortless feeling on the retrieve, and is an absolute tank. My one small grip is that the SV spool reels don't always cast as far as reels without that feature. Don't get me wrong, they cast far. But if you want to cast super far for deep cranking or big swimbaiting, a regular CT would probably handle that long cast a bit better. That said, if you are doing pretty much anything else you should be fine. Casting on a windy day? No problem. Light lures? Can do. Tired of backlash? No worries here. All of those things are just a couple of clicks of the brake dial. Did I mention these were great reels? These are great reels!

From: DBH: PA 2/7/18

Comments:One of those times when the hype is right. Ridiculously smooth, casts any lure, any weight, a country mile. Solid drag, and everything is easy to adjust. It does take a couple casts to get dialed in for lure weight, but you quickly get an idea of where you need to be, and once it's set, best reel out there. Great value too. It just outperforms anything at the price.

From: Jason: FL 11/10/17

Comments:Really like this reel.... the ONLY thing I wish was different is the knobs. The Japan version Tatula SV TWS has the knobs like that's on the Steez SV TWS from 2016. Looks alot better and feels better! Other than knobs, it's perfect!

From: Jordan - NC 9/9/17

Comments:Best value reel series on the market. The SV spool and the TWS combined are unbeatable. I started out with a couple of CT's early this summer. I have since sold all my other reels (about 13 of them) ranging from Shimano to Lews and replaced them with CT's, CT Type-R's and the SV TWS. The Tatula CT line of reels has raised the bar on the competition substantially. Nothing casts as effortlessly, period. Backlashes require effort or idiocy to accomplish now. Do not hesitate to buy this reel or any Daiwa reel in this series.

From: Jeff: Westbrook, Maine 9/7/17

Comments:Best casting reel out there! Very smooth reel and is impossible to get a backlash. I bought one and a week later I got another. Can't get any better than this!

From: Bill 8/21/17

Comments:I got this reel in 8.1.1 pared it up on a Daiwa Tatula 7.4 frog rod and spooled it with 65 pound braid.
This thing is a great reel and it cast super far with a frog with plenty of line left. No backlashes and easy to dial in. I'm a die hard Daiwa fan so much I got three new setups in the past 2 months for three different things. Already looking into a bigger swimbait setup. No complaints here. Thanks Daiwa n thank you TW for such fast shipping.

From: Chris Gove: San Jacinto Ca 8/15/17

Comments:Tested the 8.1 reel with 30lb. braid on a 7'6 Medium Heavy rod. Used everything from heavy crankbaits, 3/4 ounce jigs, to light weight worms. The reel exceeded expectations. The only initial drawback is the small spool capacity. This is my new "go to reel" in the future after 24 hours of use.

From: Danny: Midland, Texas 8/5/17

Comments:Think about how smart and how nice this is on a reel when it comes to only 100 yds of line capacity.. the need for filler line is over, no more guessing how much filler line to put on and when to stop. You can now buy a spool of 200 yds of Seaguar Invisix and spool 2 reels exactly with 100 yds of line. No one is or can cast 300 feet, so it is perfect, there is no need to wish for more line capacity on a reel that is this light and compact.

From: J.L.: Minneapolis 6/20/17

Comments:I have a dozen bait cast reels.Lews, Abu Garcia, and Shimano, and Diawa make up the collection. After using this reel for the last 3 weeks I can say that it is as smooth as my Metanium and Albebaren.I know how can a $200 reel compare to a $450 reel.Well Diawa has done it!!I can launch a 10" worm or a chatter bait with this reel and have NEVER had a back lash yet.But it and you won;t be disappointed. As sson as I get some ectra money i will be buyin more to replace my Lews tournament MB reels.

From:Erin M: Cottonwood, 6/18/17

Comments:Just received mine in the mail. I picked up the 8.1 gear ratio spooled up with 65lb J-Braid on a 7'4" heavy action Tatula pole. Love the SV spool and TWS combo. The reel itself is rated for 12-20lb test but casts and retrieves smoother than any reels I've had to date. What's better is that even with a lightweight frog on the end it casts a mile and has 0 chance of backlash. I highly recommend this to the spinning reel advocates interested in adding a bait caster to their boat. Daiwa made a great reel and I look forward to setting up another pole using the Tatula line.

From: Unknown: MI 5/24/17

Comments:o for a few years I've been on a search for an ideal Jerkbait reel that wasn't too expensive. One that's compact but can cast a Jerkbait far with minimal backlashing. I used to think that spool weight and small-lure capability were the key, but I just wasn't getting what I was looking for from various Lew's Speed Spools, Garcia Revos, and others. Even with 8-lb line, still needed to set the braking high enough to stop backlashes, and it would cut down cast distance too much. Recently got a Tatula CT and loved it...was shocked how well that reel cast lighter/wind-catching lures, so after researching the new SV version, I decided to give it a shot. Well, I think it's the perfect reel for Jerkbaits and small-to-medium cranks, so my search is over. Even with some Jerkbaits that catch a lot of air, the reel doesn't backlash even with minimal spool tension and braking. It's almost 'set-and-forget'. The reel is actually quite compact so it's easy on the wrist when working baits with a lot of action. Cranking is smooth and easy. Again,a rather frustrating search is finally over. The Tatulas are now my go-to.

From: Unknown 4/25/17

Comments:Got this reel mostly because I was interested in the SV spool and it was finally released at a decent price point. I used it all day today and I was amazed at how smooth it casts end-to-end. The SV spool takes a little getting used to, but it is amazing for those lighter baits once you get it dialed in. Some have also said it hinders your overall casting distance, but I didn't experience that - if anything I was casting further! My only wish - more line capacity. I think that's the main tradeoff for the SV spool though. An awesome reel overall - will be picking up one more of these once they are back in stock!

Comments:I recently bught both a Tatula SV TW and a Zillion SV TW. Both great reels that really reduce backlashing. You do have to work a little bit to get the settings right, but a lot less than any other brand I've used previously. Slight edge to the Zillion spool in terms of casting ultra light lures. However a slight edge to the Tatula in terms of casting distance with typical weighted lures. Also the higher gear ratio on the Tat will be a further plus to some. Both great reels!

From: Cap - 3/30/17

Comments:Overall it is a nice reel, I have a tatula CT that I love. I got mine in yesterday spooled it up with a brand new spool of 30 pound Super 8 Power Pro, went out to my pond and set the spool tension knob where there was no side-to-side movement and adjusted the brakes to 20. I tried skipping a ChatterBait which I don't know if that is really possible but I spent two hours digging a Whopper of a bird nest out. The real seems like it has kind of a little bit of a vibration rattling sound whenever I cast it so I don't know if maybe I just got a dud or something is wrong with the reel.all in all, I like the reel but I was expecting more, btw, I have a zillion sv tw and a 16 metanium mgl that are WAAAYYY smoother and more refined than this one.
