surprisingly satisfiedPurchased the 7’ MH -Fast, however, after taking it out on the water it is definitely more of a moderate-fast. Started throwing med diving crank baits on it like the RkCrawler and (no exaggeration) I haven’t missed a single bite. Every single bite resulted in a hookup and i’ve caught 20+ fish on it in 2 sessions with this rod alone. Definitely recommend it for treble hook and moving baits.

Comments: So far this rod has been really good. Got the 7 foot Medium-Heavy Cranking rod and it has performed just as expected. The only thing I would say I'd that the description says it is a moderate fast but it is definitely just a moderate. Aside from that, I would definitely recommend this rod.

From: Theo: Iowa 5/30/23

Comments: Got the 7' cranking rod, like others have stated this line of rods does feel a bit over rated. The 705cb feels more like a medium or a little above. Very light rod but it does have a decent bit of backbone. I like the guides, they aren't to small, they handle a leader knot pretty well. It's a good budget rod for throwing mid/shallow cranks and I like it for my bladed jigs as well.

From: Simon: Tennessee 1/11/23

Comments: This rod is well crafted. I have both the 7' H and MH. I will say in my opinion the rating on the rod seem a little off. The 7' Heavy feels more like a MH and the MH feels more medium. Also the action seems more moderate fast than fast. Overall the rods are light, balanced, and has decent sensitivity. Works well with moving baits. I wouldn't choose it for a jig/worm rod but the 7' Heavy is awesome for roll casting chatter/spinnerbait. Overall happy with the quality of the rod.

From: David: Georgia 6/30/22

Comments: I have the cranking rod. I love it. Works great for small cranks and big cranks. Incredible rod for the price

From: Zach: Virginia 5/23/22

Comments: I've had mine for 2 years and its still performing well. I don't think there is a better rod out there for 80 bucks. No complaints.

From: Jack: Florida 10/27/21

Comments: Just bought this rod last week. Use it in a tournament this Saturday 7/17/21, with Spinnerbait tied on. Used it for pretty much the 6 hours straight and still found it light enough and "Perfect Tip Flex" for what I was doing. I always tell people getting into the sport that the 703 is the perfect rod to get started with, and this rod for the cost is the best I've seen. Highly recommend this rod.

From: Rene: San Jose, CA 7/19/21

Comments: The best Bang for your buck! This is the only bottom contact bait rod under $100 I recommend as far as sensitivity and fish handling. Plenty of great budget rods out there but this is the best for bottom feel and proper load up before you get to the $150 range other than the Fury rods(most rods at this range are either noodles and have crappy feel or visa versa good sensitivity and a bit too stiff). Best entry Spinning and MH/H BC rods till you get to the really nice gear price point. Also remember Dobyns actions are on the soft side so Mag heavy for frog rods but that's why they load up better....

From: Unknown 4/6/21

Comments: I have the 7 foot med heavy crank bait rod and it's good crank bait rod! If you need a budget crank bait rod this is a great option. I've used a bunch of other colts but the crank one is the best in this line up since you don't need a lot of sensitivity in a crank bait rod. The colt crank rod gets the job done pretty well

From: Diego: Plano, Texas 12/1/20

Comments: This rod is very meh the first guide popped out of its seal and it snapped but the snap was user error. Not very sensitive and the handle is okay.

From: Unknown 11/9/20

Comments:I bought the 7' Heavy Colt series and have used it a lot over a yr now hauling in heavy bass , it is a really nice rod and it works great for me but it is my first name brand rod other than the Lews mh i have which is nice also , i think the Colt is a really good rod for the money and don't worry about throwing it around it's tough , other than these two rods I've used Shakespear Ugly sticks mostly and they're alright but i just wanted a good light weight name brand rod without breaking the bank , thinking about getting the Fury series next

From: Christopher - 10/03/20

Comments:This rod is amazing. I don't know why other people are complaining about the guides. I have never experienced any issues with this rod. I have owned it for a year now. I got a 7' MH, i would recommend getting a 7' H for texas rigs and worm fishing in general.

From: Robert: Florida 6/19/20

Comments:I'm disappointed about this rod I have used about six times and I casted and it snapped right in half. This rod is not worth wasting your money on terrible quality!

From: Unknown: 4/17/20

Comments:These rods are very good for the price, I bought the 734 and used it for everything this spring. Jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, frogs, etc. and it performed flawlessly for me, it broke yesterday on a snapping turtle but it was completely my fault. I will definitely dish out another $80 for this awesome workhorse! (I had mine paired with a Curado k 201hg and 50lb power pro)

From:Ronin: Northeast 6/23/19

Comments:I bought two of this rods (7" heavy & 7,3 heavy) for a texas rig setup but their really soft. They didnt work for me. I was not expecting that.

From: Laredo2/28/19

Comments:Great rod for the $$$. Light and sensitive. My only complaint is that the Fast tip works more like a Fast Moderate. I bought the 7'3" Fast.

From: SOCObassin:Santa Rosa, CA11/11/18

Comments:I purchased the Dobyns Colt Series Casting rod in the 7'3" heavy configuration about six weeks ago and have had many opportunities to take it out on the water. I have fished on and off all my life but have really gotten into it in the last year or so. Knowing this, the Colt series is what I would consider my first quality rod purchase. Before purchasing this rod, I owned a single cheap $60 Berkley rod and reel combo that snapped in half after a couple months of light use. As a college student I have a lower budget when it comes to pretty much everything, especially fishing gear, but I also don't want to sacrifice quality too much just to save a couple extra bucks.PROS/CONS:

PRO-

-Price - $80, is a great price to introduce high quality rods to people with lower budgets.
-Quality - Is built using high-end components, like Hi-density hypalon butts and Sea Guides.
-Performance - Sensitive enough with plenty of backbone to pull those fish out of the toughest places.
-Brand - Dobyns is known for producing premium rods for tournament anglers.
-Warranty - 1-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
CON-
-No two-piece models, Not a big issue but may be necessary for people who travel a lot.
Worth It?
I don't know, plain and simple. It depends on where you classify yourself as an angler. If you are someone like me who doesn't want to spend a fortune but wants quality gear from a reputable company then yes, it may be worth it. However, if you are someone who needs to have top of the line equipment that allows you to perform at the highest level possible, you may feel like this rod isn't enough. Other reviewers mention that this is the best quality rod for the price, and as of right now I would have to agree with them. However, this doesn't mean that there aren't other great companies out there making rods equally as impressive as this one for similar prices. I would encourage you to do your own research, but don't overdo it, sometimes you need to personally use each rod from these different companies to find a favorite.Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. The rod has some great attributes and at this price range, you should really consider including it in your arsenal.

From: Unknonwn Iowa9/22/18

Comments:Bought one of these less than a year ago.Rod has been fine, but then the guides (inside part) broke. It happened on at least 2 of them. So, I sent it in.Just got it back today and I couldn't believe one of them was still broken. You have to be kidding me.I know it's your cheaper pole in the line up, but it still has your name on it.Especially after being sent in, you'd think you would have done a better inspection before you shipped it back.Sure your other poles are better quality, but probably not going to buy another one from you guys. If I could post a picture I would.

From: Kevin:Lake Forest, CA8/30/18

Comments:Bought one early this year.On a lower budget, so thought I'd give it a try.Recently, one of the inner parts of the guides chipped. Was able to get away with it for a while, but than another one did the same thing.Line ended up getting shredded (I use Seaguar Red Label 10lb).Other than that, it's a good rod.Didn't have any other issues. Going to return it since they have a limited warranty.Would I get it again?Depends on how the next one does after they fix it.

From: Kevin:Southern California7/26/18

Comments:Ordered the 734 based only on reviews and it was great. Caught a couple 3 pounders and the rod felt great at the hook set. More sensitive than my other rods, well put together, good workmanship. The heavy power in this rod is not as heavy as in some other brands, more like a MH I'd say, which is what I like. Great rod, you will not be disappointed.

From:Ove: Phoenix 5/22/18

Comments: Price vs quality in a rod there is no comparison. Sensitive, balanced, yet has plenty of back bone. This rod compares with some of the $200 rods I have fished.

From: Brad: Jennings 3/9/18

Comments:i will be buying more. very good rod overall.

From:Unknown: 1/29/18

Comments:i own 3 of these rod. the 734, 703, 705cb. my favorite is the 734, but that's just base on the style i like to fish. im fishing with a low budget and couldn't be more happier with these rods.very sensitive rods. i would highly recommend these rod. i think this is the best quality for bucks.

From:Unknown: 1/29/18

Comments:Another awesome rod by Dobyns. Great price point, components, and balances well in hand.

From: Rob - North Carolina 1/19/18

Comments:Bought 3 of these guys. I was kinda nervous buying rods online that I wasnt able to inspect in the store to make sure they were straight. Well these 3 came in as straight as can be. They feel really well balanced as some of the other reviews say. The bottom half has a nice clear coating and the upper end is more of a matte color and slightly ribbed texture. Feels like a higher end rod for sure. Excellent build quality. You can tell there is alot of attention to detail. Honestly they're perfect. Order one, you wont regret it.

From: Sam: Forney, Tx 1/6/18

Comments:I have the 7'3 heavy and it is super sensitive for a $80 rod. It is even more sensitive than more expensive rods I have from other companies. It is a great rod if you are on the fence about it just get it.

From: Aidan: Ohio 1/4/18

Comments:
I have the 7'3 heavy with a curadoG7 for jigs and it is a great set up for $80 it is more sensitive than 100 dollar rods from other brands that I have and they are medium heavy. Great rod I would definitely buy more than one.

From: Aidan: Ohio 1/3/18

Comments:I have purchased 2 of the 7' crank bait rods and have been impressed! After the first one I had to get another. The look and feel is outstanding for this price range. Like the fury it is made in China which kinda surprised me at first being a Dobyns but they are a great rod company all the way.

From: Dave: Arkansas 11/30/17

Comments:I know why you're reading this review. You want to know whether this rod is any good for $80? Well, just save yourself the trouble and add one to your cart. Or 3. Or 10 bc why not? Best $80 rod you'll find. Great balance, guides, and sensitivity that you'll find in all other Dobyns Rods. It's no Champion by any standards, but it's a great bang for your buck at the price point.

From: Dave - California 11/11/17

Comments:I won this rod in a tournament and i wasn't very sure about it but it is a great rod for the price. It is very sensitive and well balanced.

From: Unknown 10/2/17

Comments:Best rod for the price - the rod is wrapped super nicely. Guides are aligned very nicely unlike some other brands I've come across that are at the 100 dollar range. Flipped a few 3-4lbers and the rod still hasn't snapped in pieces. Definitely grabbing a few more.

From: Unknown - 9/29/17

Comments:For the price you can't beat rod, looks good and well balance.
