Lightweight, great action, horrible material. This rod is nowhere near $100 worth let alone a justifiable $180. I received the rod and immediately was kind of disappointed how cheap it felt. Yes. It does feel lightweight and has some good bend to it for action. However, it did not feel like $180 Rod. I have other rods with better feel and quality that is not even $150. First day of use on the water and the first ring snapped with some light tug on my line as my line was stuck on the rings. Unbelievable. Even my cheaper $100 under rods were not this brittle and cheap. $180 down the drain and another $60 to get limited warranty replacement just to get another replacement rod that will easily snap. Avoid this series.

Comments: Was out on Lake Lanier over the weekend...fishing a finesse whacky rigged work around docks, got a bite, and when I went to set the hook the rod just snapped between the 4th & 5th guide (about 18" from the tip). This was my finesse rig (15lb braid to 6lb mono) so the hook set wasn't hard at all...no prior damage to the blank...I was so disappointed as this was one of my favorite rods. I have 3 other Sierra rods...fingers crossed this doesn't happen to any of them. Seeing more and more reviews of this happening to others. Should not happen with $175 rod.

From: Jim: Lake Lanier 10/2/23

Comments: I bought two 704's and a 705 recently. I intention of the purchase was to get a heavy spinning rod for my wife to power fish big large mouths. Somehow, the order grew to three rods. My fault as TW had them on sale for Christmas, plus I threw 10% off gift cards at them. We both dislike them. The handle to reel location relationship is terrible. We end up holding forward on the handle to match the reel. We end up fishing holding part of the rod instead of the handle. While making solid hook sets the handle creeks. I landed a 6.4 LM today and the handle seemed like it was under a lot of pressure. These rods will probably live rest of our lives up in the eaves of the boat house.

From: John: Lorida, FL 2/15/23

Comments: Light and sensitive but brittle. Mine broke a foot down while trying to pop a stuck jighead loose after very light use. Can't justify the replacement cost for a line of rods I don't trust. I still have several Savvy sticks in my box that I love and plenty of Champion XP's, but I'll avoid the Sierra line in the future.

From: Josh: Oklahoma City, OK 12/10/21

Comments: I love the MLF rod! But...broke two rods at the tip within two months doing nothing more than hooking to the bait keeper. I used Dobyns rod replacement deal for the first one, but I won't bother doing it again. Too bad, because as I said, I love the action and sensitivity, but Dobyns definitely has a problem with this one.

From: JB: Decatur, TX 10/16/21

Comments: The Sierra MLF is a light, sensitive, budget-friendly rod. The tip, however, is brittle and subject to snap at any time. In fact, I broke the tip on two Sierra MLF spinning rods last Sunday. $300 gone. I have been a loyal Dobyns believer up until now, but I cannot justify $90 for a replacement rod that may fail at any time. Again, it's light, sensitive, and reasonably priced, but none of that will matter when the rod tip snaps in two.

From: Matt: Virginia 10/12/21

Comments: I bought the 703 and I'm beyond happy with it! This is the first time I have spent this much money on a rod. I was really worried I wouldn't like it since I couldn't hold it in my hand first. There's such a difference between this rod and even higher priced rods like a St Croix Mojo Bass. It's very well balanced and extremely light! Amazing quality! I heard people say that it has a soft tip, but I think it's the perfect action. It's not stiff like a broom stick, which gives me better casting distance and it's forgiving if I make a mistake. I like it so much I think I'll get a 702 for drop shots and ned rigs. I highly recommend it!

From: Chris: Cincinnati, Ohio 3/25/21

Comments: Bought the 7' ML for drop shot and other finesse techniques and its worked out well for drop shot, ned rig fishing, and using the okishira screwhead with the spark shad its only been a few weeks its been good.

From: Daniel: Arizona 1/7/21

Comments: I bought 2 Heavy action rods, they seem nice. I have a complaint about the handles. The cork handles on both of these rods came full of holes and grooves. Seems like the piece of cork they used was full of grubs and they didn't want to throw the piece away. I guess I expect that when you spend good money on a rod like Dobyns you want a full smooth handle as well. I was thinking of buying another one, but not sure anymore. There are many other brands that give you a good handle with out holes.

From: J: Wisconsin 10/20/20

Comments:Bought this rod on clearance sale (back order) about a year or so ago. (6'9" medium) Waited patiently for six months to get it. Definitely worth the wait. I use it mostly for shaky head and Texas rigged worms. All my high sensitivity bottom fishing stuff. Rod is super light and very sensitive. 10/10 value. Unfortunately, recently I was making a cast and the rod tip snapped in two places. (Not sure why, maybe I had nicked it previously? Maybe not.) Anyway, I plan on using Dobys no hassle warranty to replace it but even if I had to pay full price for another rod, I would.

From: Michael: Gainesville, GA 10/1/20

Comments:I was looking for a versatile spinning rod to throw a few different things on and heard good things about Dobyns rods. So I personally called Gary myself and he recommended the 704sf mh so I took his word for it. When I received it the build and looks on it was astonishing. It's perfect so sensitive and the backbone that I was looking for. I highly recommend it best rod I ever used.

From: Ben: New York 8/28/20

Comments:Bought the 7ft Med/Hvy Fast action 2 years ago and it still fishes like new. Very versatile rod from crappies to bass, 20lb+ carp and stripers. I will be buying more. I use a yellow high visibility 20lb braid and have flipped 4-6lbers 17ft from surface of water over a railing. I fish 4 days out of the week. Average 10 fish in the 3-6lb range per day. It is my go-to-do-everything spinning rod.

From:Shawn: Monticello, MN 5/9/20

Comments:I 'm picky on the rods I use or should say that I like. I do everything with spinning rods that you can do with baitcasters. I bought this rod seeing it was a HEAVY action rod. I thought yes finally what I really want in a spinning rod. Sorry to say this rod is no more than the feel and bend and back bone of my MH rods I have now. Still missing that strong back bone that I was looking for. Nice rod as weight goes and looks are good, but no better than my all time favorite Abu Garcia Vendetta Rods and less money.

From: Jason: Wisconsin 12/24/19

Comments:I bought 2 Dobyns Sierra Series Spinning Rod 7' Medium action rods last year. I bought them to fish for smallmouth in New York (Erie and St. Lawrence River) I fished tubes and drop shot mostly, anywhere from 2 feet of water to 30'. The rods are extremely light and very sensitive, especially at the cost. I was detecting bites that I couldn't feel with my other brand rods. Caught a 6.2, 5.8lb and so many 4'rs we lost track on those 2 trips. Great rods for the angler that wants to step up from the $100 rods to the next step.

From: Ray: Maryland 10/18/19

Comments:Sierra 704 - 7' med/heavy - fast tip spinning rod paired with shimano sedona. I was so impressed with the dobyns flippin rod sierra 735, i bought the 704 spinning. My senses are much more sensive and needed weight reduction, i just used this spinning rod today and threw anything from 1/16oz to 1oz jigs, swimbaits, feather/hair jigs, drop shot, texas rig worm, finess jigs, wacky rig, ned rig, etc. This rod is very versatile for me, same as the 735 flippin rod, my only regret is not making the switch sooner to dobyns. Will definitely purchase more in the up coming holidays.

From: Shawn:Minnesota9/11/19

Comments:Listen . . . I don't mess with bait casters, in fact I only fishing spinning set up in fresh water for bass. Frogging is not really ideal with a spinning set up, at least that is what I though, then . . . I bought me this rod! Before my Dobyns Sierra Spinning 7' HEAVY set up, I was catching about 30% of the frog fish that hooked up, but now, I be catchin frog fish all day every day! This rod is ideal for fog spinning, and man ooh man it is hella fun! My boy recommended Dobyns, and for the longest time I was not a believer, plus you have to shell out some cheddar to buy Dobyns rods . . . but I must say he was right! Worth every penny! Dang y'all, I might have to buy me some more Dobyns rods!

From:Eric: Dublin, CA 8/2/19

Comments:This Dobyns rods is a complete better upgrade than the Colt. I bought the Colt because of Tacticalbassin guys, but their review is very misguiding. They should have recommended the Sierra in place of the Colt and not mentioned the Colt at all. This rod has a strong backbone that is similar to a St. Croix. Lightweight as ever, this rod does not wear down my wrist (which I have wrist problem once in a while). The sensitivity is amazing too. When I get bottom-contact with my crankbaits, it feels like a fish. IMO, this is the best mid-range rod you can buy.

From: Unknown 5/6/19

Comments:This rod was on my wish list for a while and it just so happened it was on sale for 114.99. I got it the other day but I have yet to use it but just by having it in my hands, I can tell you this thing is light as a feather. I own the colt series rod which is pretty light and a no.8 black rod which is also light but I think the Sierra knocks those two out of the park in terms of how heavy it feels. I will update my review once I am able to get out and slay some fish!

From: Sean1/14/19

Comments:Picked up the 7'medium, paired it with a pflueger president reel. Absolutely love this combo, it's not my first higher end rod and it won't be my last. I plan to get more of the Sierra series rods in both casting and spinning. Very light and very sensitive. Absolutely worth the money!

From: Matt:Wi8/19/18

Comments:This rod is awesome! I have the 7ft ML action great on my finess stuff. I was throwing a darthead with a small swimbait with this set up and hooked up into a 15pound salmon. This rod handle the salmon pretty well. Definitly a good investment! Get yourself on and try it yourself.

From:Peter: Sacramento, CA 2/10/18

Comments:My first Dobyns spinning Sierra rod it's light and very well balance. I can cast it all day and can detect a nimble. I bought the ML 6"9 model for my finesse setup. I have it for 4 months now and caught Stiper and pan fish on it. Get this rod and you won't be disappointed.

From: Unknown - Sacramento, CA 11/30/17

Comments: The 7ft heavy is an absolute God send! Frog fishing made easy, soft tip for tossing the frog and crazy backbone for planting the hooks. I will definitely be getting the medium heavy for cranks/spinnerbaits/jigs.

From: Joseph: Henniker NH USA 9/4/17

Comments:After using the Sierra 703 for the first time, all I can saw it wow. I have used almost every Fury and Champion model spinning rod made and this rod compares to the Champion model. Very fast rod but with the backbone of the 3 power. The Fury is also great but has less flex to the rod. I would trust this rod around grass and wood because it stands true to the 3 power but has the tip to feel any bite! Very well done here, Dobyns!

From: Justin: Rochester, NY 1/25/17

Comments:I've had this rod for a month now & used it probably 20 times. This rod is absolutely amazing! Very lightweight & balanced, casts a mile. I'm an older lady & I fished this bad boy in the 95 degree heat for 8 hours & I never got tired. Great rod, paired with a Pflueger Supreme XT. You won't be sorry with the quality of this one.
