Overview

Originally introduced over twenty years ago, Falcon’s Lowrider series pioneered the use of low profile, single-footed guides to improve casting performance. Taking that technology a step further, the Falcon BuCoo SR Casting Rods pair Fuji LowRider guides with lightweight, cross-directional carbon fiber blanks, resulting in an outstanding blend of power and sensitivity.

Fashioned with premium components throughout, the Falcon BuCoo SR Casting Rods feature a Fuji exposed blank reel seat for direct blank contact, providing a more responsive feel that helps distinguish subtle bites and contour changes. Complete with EVA split grip handles to further reduce weight, the Falcon BuCoo SR Casting Rods deliver a stronger, lighter, more sensitive construction that meets and exceeds the demands of competitive anglers.

Features:

-Cross directional carbon fiber with "cobra cloth" reinforcements
-100% Fuji guides
-Fuji exposed blank reel seat for direct contact with blank
-EVA split grip handles for less weight
-Limited 5-Year Warranty

Great rod for the price! Not sure how people are breaking these rods, I must have got a good one. I am 6 foot 285 and I double this thing over on the hookset. Haven’t had any issues yet and I am very hard on my gear. I got the 7’ 2” mh and it is the most versatile rod ever and pairs with my Daiwa zillion perfectly. Overall very pleased with this rod for the price, light, sensitive, balanced and versatile.

Previous Feedback

Comments: Wrote my first review in February and now I have a little more experience in July, I got the 7'5 extra heavy, and this rod is great for almost everything I've done on it so far, flipping jigs in heavy cover, 6 inch soft baits, glides up to 2.5 ozs, and bull shads, I've pulled in 5 fish over 6 lbs so far and it handles big fish very well

From: Matthew: Nebraska 7/13/23

Comments: I'm not sure what fisherman are doing to break these rods. I've owned the 7'2" MH model since 2019 and I love it. I only throw bladed jigs and spinnerbaits on it. I have caught many bass on this rod including a 9lber in Mexico but I admit I've never boat flipped a bass bigger than 3 lbs. with any rod. As you know when you feel the vibration of a bladed jig or spinnerbait stop, you set the hook and I do hard hooksets with this rod. Maybe my time will come but as for now I love the sensitivity and feel of this model.

From: Jim: Delaware 5/29/23

Comments: Have hooked and landed over 50 smallmouths so far this year with the 6'-6" med hvy model. Granted, the water temp has been in the high 40s to low 50s so the smallies are not yet fully energized, but, so far, I couldn't be happier with the way it handles fish. Casting, paired with a Daiwa Fuego, has also been a pleasure.

From: Larry: NY 5/24/23

Comments: Used to love the quality of Falcon rods and still have 20 year old Lowriders that I use to this day. These Bucoos on the other hand tend to snap like twigs... Have broken them just casting a light bait or fighting a 12" fish... just avoid these...

From: Brett: Louisiana 4/14/23

Comments: Got the rod with the intention of punching mats this summer, I've thrown an A rig on it and a hudd 68 so far and it handled both wonderfully.

From: Matthew: Nebraska, US 2/22/23

Comments: I had the 7'4 Heavy Swimjig rod. About 7-8 trips in the rod snapped on the cast with a 1/2 bait. I wasn't whipping it but I wasn't soft tossing it either. I know it's a $100 rod but I expected better from Falcon.

From: Tom: 4/25/22

Comments: I recently purchased my second 7 ft "casting" version. I am not sure about the casting designation as I use mine for tossing both the weightless and weighted wacky along with other finesse presentations. I have caught two over 7 lbs. including a tournament big bass and best bag for the day.  These have a place in my arsenal. Great rods if used appropriately!

From: Bob: Texas 3/19/22

Comments: They are good rods. I like the way the fight a fish. One thing I do not like about them, you can't boat fish with them. They might brake, I had three brake with me... I would buy them all day long...

From: Ed: Oklahoma 12/23/21

Comments: I have owned a couple of these and a Jason Christine rod and well they are pretty sensitive, but the rods are as fragile as dry spaghetti noodle, one snapped on just reeling in weeds, another snapped on hook set, and the other rod just broke boat flipping a fish under 2 pounds. For 100 dollars this is pretty pathetic.

From: Cooper: Hastings, NE 11/11/21

Comments: Love em! The 7'3 mh is my favorite. Nice for throwing big 10 inch worms and 1/2 to 3/4 football jigs. Wish they were still made in the states like the original bucoo, thatâs what got me started with the Falcon family years ago, but I'm still a fan.

From: Royce: Louisiana 7/13/21

Comments: These rods are junk. Sensitivity and action isnt the worst, but I have snapped 2 of these in less than a year. Both on a fairly conservative hook set, literally just leaning into them.  Im not even going to send this one in, as I'll be exploring other brands.

From: Unkown: Illinois 6/29/21

Comments: I have had three of these rods and I have broken all three. I am not sure what is the deal with these rods, because I have never broken a rod before other than casting too much weight on a few. Anyway these rods are pretty good while they last. I have had 1 6'8 medium-heavy, fast action models and 2 6'10s medium- heavys. I currently still have my 6'8 and I am not going to turn it in on warranty like I did the other two rods. This rod was used for skipping 3/8 ounce jigs under docks. The 6'10s that I had were used for Squarebills, topwater, and jerk baits every now and then. I have around 20 other rods of various brands and I have never been so disappointed to have three different ones break. It could be from boat flipping fish I suppose, but I never high stick and I do this with all my other rods and have never had a problem. I could understand if I was flipped 7-8lbers in, but the biggest has probably been 3.5lbs

From: Trevor: Shelby, NC 2/4/21

Comments: I have a 6'6" moderate fast paired with a Lews speed spool and it's the perfect set up for throwing up to 1/2oz crank baits and jerk baits.

From: Gary: Modesto, CA 12/19/20

Comments: I purchased the 7'4" H back in April. I was using it for texas rigs and jigs. Once I used it, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. The rod felt well balanced bare, but with a reel I was never a big fan of how it felt. It also didn't quite have the backbone that I would have liked. However, it was new and that's what I got it for so I had been using it. But that was until my last outing and when dragging a jig the tip broke off about 16" down. Not sure if this was bad luck or a sign. But I just felt inclined to share my experience. As I sit here and think about describing the action I was thinking what it would have worked better for. I never used it, but I think the action would have been very suitable for a swim jig rod. Just my thoughts and hope this review helps someone.

From: Logan: Missouri 9/8/20

Comments: I own three of these rods. The 7 ft H, the 7 ft MH, and the 6'8 MH. All three rods are great rods. Durable, light, comfortable, and a good price for what you're getting. The only thing I would notice however, is the rating of 'fast' action for the 7ft H. It doesn't feel like a traditional fast action. That being said, it's something you can get used to, and I don't think it's something that would cause you to loose any fish while learning the rod.

From: Wesley: Ohio 6/23/20

Comments: I've had the 7'3'' Heavy for over a year now and Its a great rod. It is my jig rod. I'll also throw a Biffle hard head on it as well. Sensitive and tough but no too heavy. Has enough tip to make a decent cast with a 3/8 oz jig which is great. I've also owned the 6'10'' MH. I hated it... I wanted to use it as a finesse jig rod but found it too cumbersome. It had a sloppy tip and made for inaccurate casting when I would use it to skip a bait under a dock. I wound up using it for spinnerbaits and sold it earlier this year.

From: Brandon: Bulverde, TX 6/8/20

Comments: Bought the 7'2" MH and LOVE it! Rod loads up exceptionally well with light lures. Great casting distance with acceptable sensitivity. Super value, certacert worth your consideration.

From: Redgoby: Ohio  5/17/20

Comments: I own three of these rods. The 6'6 MH is good for just about everything. It's listed up to 3/4 but I don't go higher than 3/8 on it. The 7' MH does everything the 6'6 can, but it can handle those bulkier lures, personally I wouldn't throw Texas rigs on them, tip seems a little too slow for them. The 7' H is a great jig, frog, or Texas rig rod. These are my favorite rods I've ever thrown. Managed to convince a couple friends to make the swap and they love them too.

From: Andrew 5/17/20

Comments: Best rods for the price. Have the 7' medium heavy and the 7'3" heavy. The medium heavy is a great all around rod for spinnerbaits, plastics and topwater. The heavy is an excellent jig and frog rod. Can't go wrong with these rods and hope to get more in the future.

From: Charlie: Arkansas 3/12/20

Comments: I bought 3 of these rods with the same expectations as the originals. The rods are a little heavier then the original Blanks but they do appear to be upgrades in a couple key components with the guides and reel seat. I haven't used them on the water yet to fully put in my two scents worth.

From: Billy: 3/12/20

Comments: I have to say this is a very nice rod. If your looking for a rod around the $100.00 price point then get one of these. I think this is the best  "bang for your buck" rod out there. You'll be surprised how light they are. If a guy wanted to get setup with multiple rods in the same brand/lineup I wouldn't hesitate.

From: Frank: Missouri 12/10/19

Comments: I picked up the BuCoo SR Carolina Lizard Dragger II. I was impressed that it was as light as it was for the action. I put on my Fuego CT 7:3:1 and it will be a very nice balanced set up. I can't wait to get on the water with this setup for next season. Don't forget you also get the 5 year warranty for this rod.

From: Spencer: New England 12/8/19

Comments: I have 2, 7' MH.  Had em a long time.  Still the old black grips.  These are exceptional rods.  I'm sure they are passed over often because they are only a hundred dollar rod, but they are exceptional tools.  Durability off the charts.  The versatility of this model is amazing.  I fished just about everything I got with these rods.  Super value. Update: Still, I believe, this is one of the best values on the market. I now have 5 of these rods ranging from the 6'6" MH up to a 7'3 H. I love em all. I have the 6'6" MH for jerkbaits. I find myself preferring it to the Shimano Expride lying beside it. No reason to spend more..

From: Coach: Shell Knob 8/13/19

Comments: This rod is OUTSTANDING. The only thing I wish they would change is the grip color, it just turns green-ish after a while of fishing in the weeds. Still fishes great though.

From: Unknown: 8/3/19

Comments: This is the best $100 rod on the market period. I own 3 of these rods and I still prefer these over my Duckett micro magic. The sensitivity is out of the world

From: Tyler: La 3/20/19

Comments: Got the 7' Medium Heavy in Moderate Fast action. Got it to throw most of my moving baits. It works great!  Can cast as far as you want to when paired with an Abu Garcia Revo X. Love the MF action, and has surprisingly good backbone for a MF. Have caught several 4 and 5 pounders and the rod has handled nicely. Will be getting more. Huge fan of the Falcon HD as well!

From: Andrew: Alabama  2/6/19

Comments: I bought one of the 6'6" mediums and paired it with a Lew's speed spool tournament MB. First few casts with a 3/16 oz Texas rig and I was blown away. Landed a 5 1/2 pounder with a little trouble (Fish swam under the boat) but I feel confident that this rod will handle the big girls. I have never experienced casting accuracy like I did with this rod. Liked it so much I bought another and paired it with the same reel. I have owned some great rods, but this one is head and shoulders above the rest, for 1/2 to1/3 the price!!! All fisherman should own at least one of these.

From: Derek: Abilene TX 4/12/18

Comments: I am only a 15 year old kid and i fish tournaments during the summer once a week. I like to buy a new rod and real every year. One of my friends showed me this rod and i instantly fell in love with it. These rods have outperformed any other rod i own. i have a 7 foot medium heavy,7/2 extra heavy, and a 7/3 heavy and i recommend all of them and i have never broke one, so they seem to be pretty durable considering what i have put them through. so if your looking for a rod in the 100 dollar club this is the rod.

From: Unknonwn 2/7/18

Comments: I have 2 of these rods.  They and the Lew's TP-1 are the best rods in this price range and it's not even close.  The quality for the money on the BuCoo SR is easily the best on the market.  I have the 7ft MH, paired with a Lew's SLP Speed Spool.  It casts a mile.  The other one I have is a 6ft 6in MH paired with a Daiwa Tatula CT.  Easily the best jerkabait/topwater combo I've ever owned.  Both are extremely light weight too.  You can't go wrong with these rods.

From: Paul: Ozark, MO 10/13/17

Comments: Picked up the 6'10" MH MF finesse jig rod, planned on using it for finesse jigs and small keitechs. The quality of these rods is so ridiculously good for the price, regardless of them outsourcing it to China. Incredibly light, soft enough tip to launch weightless 3.8s, and 3/16 oz jigs, and more sensitive than you would expect for a 100$ rod with a moderate fast tip. Thoroughly impressed with this rod. Only qualm, it's really more of a medium than a medium heavy, and even though it's rated up to 5/8, I wouldn't dare go much higher than 3/8 on it. But I got it for light jigs and swimbaits anyway, so that's a nonissue.

From: Jerry: Asheville, NC 9/13/17

Comments: Love these and all other falcon rods.  I got this rod and it handled a 8 1/2 pounder and many other big fish Like a champ. 5 stars

From: Gary: Alabama 7/12/17

Comments: Don't listen to anyone that has anything bad to say about these rods because they don't know what they are talking about. They are the best rods in the $100 price point market and have been for nearly 10 years now. They are still using the EXACT same FXB blank and all Fuji components just as the original. Only thing different now is they changed the grip slightly and also made it grey. They also added a carbon fiber cloth wrap to the butt section to increase strength. Aside from that they are the same as the originals. What Falcon did was shift production to China thus dropping production costs and increasing profit margins. It's such a popular rod you can't really blame them as it's a business in the end. I would have preferred Falcon to keep production in the USA but hey, I get it. I have both this SR and the original BuCoo and I can not tell a step back in quality or attention to detail in these Chinese made SR models. No brainer to get these rods at $100.

From: Hulk 5/4/17

Comments: Bought the 7' hvy. Gave it away to my buddy who is a beginner fisherman the first weekend out because I had no use for it.  I was using it as a light T-rig rod for BBH's and speed craws.  Hooked up with a 6 lbr on Lake Fork and she man handled me.  I couldn't turn her head.  Rod had no backbone.  I have 6 Bucoos, both original and micro guide. Have been using them for years and love em'  This one I am not a fan of.

From: Royce: Louisiana 4/20/17

Comments: I have several of these Falcon Bucco rods.  The rods are very well put together, with exceptional craftsmanship that Falcon is known for.   These rods are super strong(you can drag a farm animal to the boat), and very very lite.  I will put these rods against any of those high $$$ blanks.  Why buy something that costs twice as much and also not proven.  Just tired of hearing about custom rods that every "Joe" is trying to build in his garage.  This Bucco rod is CUSTOM.    I have whooped on some brutes here in Florida with this rod.  I just wished they made outboard engines with the same craftsmanship as Falcon rods, they just might last longer than there warranties.

From: Bobby: Boca Raton, FL 4/9/17

Comments: By far the best rod on the market for 100 bucks. If you like a jig rod with more backbone than tip go with the XH. The heavy action is thay 80/20 that is perfect for swim jigs! I would justify paying 200 for this rod after a few trips out with it. It has no problem pulling big bush out of cover, Falcon knocked this one out of the park with this rod 10/10

From: Tanner: Paris, Texas 4/9/17

Comments: Got the 7'4'' heavy. This rod is absolutly amazing. I have been using it for frogs and heavy jigs. to do this i have it paired with a shimano casitas and 50 pound test power pro braid. It is great for throwing 1/2 ounce jigs. Definetly worth it for the price.

From: Unknown 3/27/17

Comments: Got the 7' 4" and it's a perfect jig rod. I can cast a 3/8 ounce jig a mile with no problems. Just a solid rod

From: Unknown 3/12/17

Comments: Bought the 7' MH Trap Caster. It's my go to Texas Rig, Biffle Head and Jig (under 3/4 oz.) rod! I've been a long time Falcon user and abuser. From the old BuCoo's, which are great by the way (I own 5), to this one, the new model blows it out of the water. For the price, you can't beat it. $200+ rod for 100 bucks... I own several Falcon Cara rods, and I still pick this one up first. My best go to with this rod is one of three baits. Strike King Rage Craw with a 3/8 oz pegged tungsten weight, Biffle swing head 7/16 with a Biffle Bug or Rattlin' Craw, or a good ol' fashion Jig (I prefer the Dirty Jigs - Luke Clausen edition). Like I said, I own a ton of Falcon rods, and bar none, this new BuCoo is insanely sensitive, ridiculously lightweight, feels great in the hand (new grips are awesome) and overall is a STEAL at a hundred bucks. I am definitely buying more, chances are the 7' Med for square bills, the 6'8'' MH for jerkbaits (so glad they made one finally), and the 7'6'' Cranker II f
or 2.5's and medium diving cranks. Check them out people. I promise you, you won't be disappointed!!! Great rod Falcon!!!

From: Aaron: Tulsa, OK 2/27/17

Comments: Was at a boat show and saw these so I gave them a try I now have the 7' heavy I got it as a shore angler for bigger baits. The tip was way to soft for me so I turned it in to a spinner bait, buzz bait, and chatter bait rod and WOW! Perfect match no problems yet and did I say these are light?

From: Matt: MIssouri 2/26/17

Comments: Purchased the 7'4. Tip/Action is Perfect. Buttery Smooth.
