Kistler Z-Bone LE Casting Rods - $399.99 to $419.99

Kistler Z-Bone LE Casting Rods

The LE in the Kistler Z-Bone LE Casting Rods stands for Limited Edition.  Only a limited number of the Z-Bone LE Rods will be built and individually serial numbered each year.

Handcrafted by Kistler’s own rod experts and featuring custom-designed blanks, made in America by Gary Loomis and his new company - North Fork Composites - the Kistler Z-Bone LE Casting Rods are the lightest, strongest, and most sensitive rods that Kistler has ever built.  And since these rods are not mass-produced, Kistler can individually craft each rod to the highest standards possible.  The exclusive and rare combination of North Fork Composite’s paper-carbon scrim and extremely high-modulus Next Generation HM graphite provides the Z-Bone LE Series Rods with a strength-to-weight ratio that is unequaled in the market today, and each rod also features a Raw Carbon finish, which involves a unique sanding and polishing process that requires no gloss or paint coating, and in turn, maximizes each rod’s incredible sensitivity and lightweight balance.

New Fuji K-Style Tangle-Free Micro Guides with Alconite inserts and stainless steel frames further enhance sensitivity, while also furnishing increased casting distance and accuracy, and greatly reducing rod weight. In addition, Kistler’s Advanced Micro Guide locking wrap system (KAM Lock) is one of the industry’s best methods for locking micro guides in place - eliminating many problems found with micro guide rods today. A premium Fuji ECS single-groove, blank-exposed, reel seats also provides a lightweight base for your reel, and split grip handles with high quality cork grips ensure all day ergonomic comfort.  Taking American-made performance to the next level, the lightweight, ultra sensitive and powerful Kistler Z-Bone LE Casting Rods are also backed by a 100% Money Back Guarantee from Kistler - guaranteeing satisfaction.

Comments: I have been fishing Kistler Rods for the last 10 years,  All I have experienced was exceptional quality and customer service.  I have personally dealt with Trey, Lance, and several other Kistler Staff and I felt that they were a real class act and they went out of their way to make sure I was happy.  I will continue to fish only Kistler rods.

From: Chris: Grand Rapids, MI 3/25/14

Comments: I have owned some great rods over the years but did not know that right down the street was a little green house "home of the z bone" and they made the best rods I have used to date. I cannot believe all of the negative reviews. Take it from someone that is not bias in any way shape or form. These rods are legit! If you do not want to spend the 400 go to their website and pick up a KLX for 170$. Incredible sensitivity and I would take a KLX over any 300+ dollar rod I have ever purchased.

Comments: Is there a positive review about Kistler's warranty work?  I'm going to have to stand with the man from NC and his 14 rods.  I had a tip break on a six month old rod on the way to the lake, protected in a rod sock, wrapped with other rods, 3 of which were Z-Bones.  Did Kistler honor their much touted warranty?  No, instead they wanted $210 for a "convenient, no-hassle" replacement -- not one word about that BS on their web site.  On another Z-bone, the cheap plastic hook-keeper broke, and they wouldn't mail a replacement part, instead they wanted the rod sent in for an inspection -- $30 postage to be paid by yours truly each way, for a plastic part that was revised/upgraded to metal the following year!  Simply put, there is no warranty on these rods.  Do yourself a favor, avoid Kistler and their snake oil, buy a North Fork blank from Gary Loomis, and have a local craftsman make you a custom rod of dependable reputation and quality.  To be clear, my beef is with Kistler and their broken warranty promises, not the typically outstanding service and expertise at TW.

Comments: Got the 4 power 7'3" in the mail the other day...not sure where these stories of poor quality and worksmanship are coming from. My rod was flawless, the wraps and resin were perfect, and the raw carbon look is outstanding. Held a new GLX of roughly the same length and power and it's not even close, the Zbone is lighter and more balanced. My only critique is that it could use a couple extra guides.

From: Ian: MN

Comments: awesome blank but those guides have to go. Kistler needs to step up QC as well, too many horror stories. I mean, i'm looking at the TW photo of the guides, and that blank is looking seriously blemished/scratches. I doubt TW uses banged up used rods for their product shots. Step up QC, Put out a full grip rod with titanium sic guides(non-micro), ditch the red colors and I'm pulling out the credit card.

Comments: I have been disappointed in Kistler rods in the past couple of years not only in quality but in warranty... For the prices of these rods I recommend Gloomis, or megabass rods instead... I am no longer a Kistler customer...

From: Neal: Richmond, VA

Comments: I got the 7'6 H and it seems like a great rod overall with nice components, but quality control seems to lack as the first rod had a guide broken (happens) and my replacement had some poorly done finish on, not one, but two guides.. and some glue residue here and there. TW is the best though! :)

From: Stephan

Comments: Sounds like it's a Fuji problem, not Kistler. Better yet, sounds like it's a YOU problem if that many eyelets mess up, not Kistler or Fuji. Rods (specifically the blank) are outstanding. Buy one and you won't regret it.

Comments: You need 14 rods every year??? Don't think its the rod(s).

From: Noah: NM

Comments: I Purchased 14 of these rods January 2011 by June EVERY rod had at least one Fugi eyelet missing worst I have ever used. sent several poles back they charged me for it never got a refund talked to Billy didn't do any good.since then have had two break at the handle.OHH and the bait catch is made out of plastic IT WILL BREAK..Went with a different rod company this year.

From: Mark: Wilson, NC

Comments: North Fork Composites high modulus blanks are the best I've ever fished, and Z-Bones are a solid off-the-shelf option, but most rods at this price have SiC or Recoil guides.  The build quality is very good, but if Shakespeare can honor 5 years for Ugly Stiks, I think Kistler, at the $400 price point, should do better than a one year warranty.

From: Brian: Los Gatos, CA

Comments: I now have two ZBone LE Casting Rods, one 7' Med Heavy and one 7' Medium.  For all of you who have been searching and searching for the best rod there is that will up your game, your search is over.  Kistler ZBones are that rod.  When you boil it all down it all comes down to a rods sensitivity at the end of the day.  If you can't feel the lightest of bites, how do you know how many bass you're missing? What difference does it make how much you paid for a rod or the prestige of a manufacturers name? I can guarantee you, if you pony up the money for one of these rods made with the Gary Loomis designed High Modulus Carbon fiber Scrim blank that has been rolled on a steel mandrel at over 250 lbs per square inch, removing any and all air bubbles that'll give you the most sensitive rod on the market today. My catch rate has increased by 60% I do believe.  You can feel the lightest of taps to the softest pressure bites and feel everything your lure is doing.  Man, it's like reading braille. Do yourself a favor and save your money for one of these bad boys and take your fishing to the next level.

From: David: Scottsdale, AZ

Comments: I have two Z bone LE rods.  My first was a custom 6'10 3MH, my other a 7' 4MH.  Both rods are incredibly light and stylish and perform well.  For $399 I would expect SIC guides and more guides than the standard 9 per rod.  The 6'9 should definately have more than 8 plus the tip @ $399 per rod!  I have experienced a substantial amount of line slap on my 6'10 custom build, which is pretty annoying, honestly.  I'm not into over kill on guides, and don't think they need more towards the tip, but rather in the middle where the line slap occurs.  Its an amazing blank, but they need to up the guide count and SICs should be stock @ $399.  Thats an honest review!!

From: John: St. Louis, MO

Comments: My favorite rod. I have one of the "rare" 2011 models, the LE4MH70, which is a 7'0 MH action, moderate fast, rated for 1/4-1oz baits. There is nothing better on the market in any category. Paired with a Shimano Core and 20lb FC Sniper fluorocarbon line, this is my absolute favorite combo in the boat. Yeah, it's tough to swallow the cost of these things sometimes. But when you consider the materials, craftsmanship AND the great company that Trey Kistler has put together.. you'll never fish any other brand of rod.

Comments: By far the best rod on the market today.  I have the MH 3 7' and absolutely love it.  It has opened up a whole new level of fishing.  Worth every penny!

From: Michael: Leesburg, FL

Comments: the lightest rod  i have ever held in my 60+years of fishing.I own a 7ft. 3power m/h zbone. The first time i used it, i threw a bomber #7 crankbait about 40 yds. I know they cost a lot of money but are well worth the price. For you old timers out there as well as younger fisherman, save up and get one.treat yourself at least this once.
