The Energy PTs VI Saltwater Casting Reel is totally new for 2009 with a sleeker profile and weight reduction of 2.1 ounces. Saltgard 6-layer corrosion protection finish - developed with marine expers, protects the reel with a dense molecular barrier, 6 layers in all - designed to stand up to saltwater abuse.
CNC Machined aluminum frame, side cover and front support - The one-piece design provides a solid foundation for the PT drive train and means less wear and tear on the moving components for less maintenance.
ACS II externally adjustable centrifugal braking - the external dial allows you to adjust the centrifugal brakes to perfectly match your fishing situation, without having to disassemble the reel.

Comments: I've fished this reel 2 years in saltwater - Grand Isle, La., mounted on a St. Croix SCIII MH power fast action custom rod. This is a tough rod that can handle the speckled trout and the 10 - 15# reds that try to destroy the tackle. The reel is equally tough as the rod and can swing 2 - 4 pound specks into the boat easily. There are no corrosion problems with normal maintenance procedures followed. I have 3 other bait casters to compare to - the Quantum has the best salt water performance w/a simple rinse following each trip - no problem with the drag assemblies corroding and has the easiest and most responsive drag system. The reel that has compared to it the best is a Bass Pro reel, but I have only fished it 1 year (fresh water reel). Another popular high dollar reel has a stronger drag system but is lacking when comparing the drag adjustment. We fish 150# tuna with 13# of drag. 10 to 12 pounds is plenty for coastal saltwater. Another popular brand that is frequently used for saltwater but has a model in the line that is, will give problems in SW due to aluminum components in the drag assembly corroding.

Comments:This reel is very smooth. I use it on a Skeet Reese rod for bass fishing, you wouldn't want a better combo, the reel is so smooth. Put some p line halo fifteen pound line on this and you have a fish winch, very good reel.
