Overview

Big bass have long been known to feed on bluegill and panfish, and the Savage Gear 3D Bluegill delivers an incredibly realistic bluegill presentation like only Savage Gear can. Designed and colored based on an actual 3D scan of a real bluegill, it adds another important weapon to the arsenal of the trophy bass angler.

During the bass spawn, bluegill can often be found raiding eggs from bass beds, which bass don’t take kindly to, and big bass also actively feed on spawning bluegill during the bluegill spawn. The Savage Gear 3D Bluegill is perfect for both situations. Featuring top and bottom treble hooks, the bottom hook can be easily removed, making it perfect for nest raiding situations and fishing on or near the bottom. Delivering true-to-life detail in both action and finish, the Savage Gear 3D Bluegill takes advantage of every opportunity.

Comments: Caught my biggest bass ever, what else is there to say.

From: Unknown: 10/24/21

Comments: Picked it up from a retailer a while back, mixed successes with the 5 inch. Had one that came up sideways, wouldn't swim true no matter what, and had a hard time not twisting my line up in the process.

Returned it, grabbed another, swims like a dream, gets hit by everything that remotely feeds on bluegill, and is quickly becoming a go-to swimbait for me. Always gets followed, hooks are decent, and for the money is a good deal.

You're kind of rolling the dice with savage gear- you're either going to get a lemon or an amazing lure for the price, and there's no way to tell which one. That being said, if you've got $10 to spare and your order needs a filling- there are worse things you could buy.

From: Unknown - 6/2/20

Comments: Swims great, looks great, doesnt catch fish. It gets strikes but the hookup ratio is absolute trash. Youll watch them suck down the entire bait and not get hooked. I finally cut the bait up the other day in order to stop myself from tying it on and ultimately missing good sized fish.

From: Matt: Illinois 4/12/20

Comments: This bait is garbage don't waste your money unless you have a lot of super glue and the hook up ratio is terrible because of where the hooks are placed on this bait

From: Unknown: 8/18/19

Comments: I fished this lure one day and the paint is already coming off. Also every time i threw this lure in i let it sink and start reeling it in it comes up at the top of the water like a top water lure.

From: Unknown: 7/15/19

Comments: Good bait, can be prone to rolling but if you tune it you won't have that problem. Get a lot of strikes on this bait but the hook placement isn't great which causes a lot of missed strikes. For the price it's good, better bluegill baits out there but for the price it's great and will produce.

From: Tim - New Jersey 2/15/19

Comments: People that say it swims sideways need to look to see if the tuning weight is still tucked in the underside by the butt hole. It's like a nail weight which you can replace with different weights if you wish. Makes it swim different and sink faster or slower. I think it's a pretty decent bait for the price. I havent landed any fish on it yet, just took some casts to test things out and mess with it a bit

From: Unknown 11/24/18

Comments: This is a great bait for that big kicker fish. I caught several 4 lbers on it this spring up here in Minnesota. I like the slow sink just slowly reeling and stopping it around staging areas. Always stays upright. Only downside is the eyes fall off fast and you have to sharpie over them because its bright white underneath. I'll still take it though!

From: Tom: MN 11/18/18

Comments: Added a 1/16 split shot 1" above and it sinks beautifully.  Than I use it to bed fish, more pitching than chucking. Works fine .

From: Matias: Yucaipa Ca. 3/19/18

Comments: Its a horrible bait every time you reel the bait floats sidways and cant swim for crap.

From: Unknown - 12/23/17

Comments: I bought this reel last year and I really liked it at first but when my friend and I went fishing he was outcasting my curado by 30+ yds and I turned the tension knob and put 1 of the brakes on and I still couldn't cast anywhere. Now about a year later, I backlash every time with 2 brakes on and the knob down. Terrible reel don't buy.

From: Rhett: North Carolina 10/26/17

Comments: Looks absolutely fenominal in the water and it's just 10 bucks. "WOW" is all I have to say with the 4" light gill sinking!!! Definately gonna get more than that one!! Swims great,Good color, and perfect lunch size for a 2 1/2-8 1/2 pounders.

From: Trent: Virginia 9/12/17

Comments: Surprised to see mixed reviews on this swimbait.. I prefer throwing the 4" dark gill they swim straight for me and bass absolutely destroy them yes the hookup ratio on smaller bass is not that great but I don't throw swimbaits to catch little ones, the big guys swallow it whole.. I fish it like its wounded reeling then making a dramatic twitch into a fall and they slam it.. All in all BUY ONE best gill for the money hands down

From: Unknonwn 9/7/17

Comments: Just for starters out of the package, this bait has lots or pros and cons. Pros : Great feeling body, Nice packaging, good hooks and split rings. Cons : The eyes started falling out on my second cast, The hook placement on the bait makes it hard to get a good hook set when you get a bite from under 3 pounders bass, The hooks are good but I replaced them because they are very low profile on the bait in which is normally a good thing but it was getting to the point that I couldn't keep fish on.My overall review of this bait is i'm somewhat happy with this product. It might have had just been mine but my bait FLOATS, it supposed to be a slow sinking bait as said by the company. the bait has good action when burned across the surface. It is also good when you fish it like a jerk bait. My final opinion is that it catches big fish during pre spawn.

From: Josh Fisher: Kent, Ohio 1/20/17

Comments: Swims sideways, no matter the speed, always sideways. Yeah, you can twitch it and make it 180. That's all well and good, but if I want it to swim in a straight line, nope. Not with out laying on its side.

From: Wesley: South Carolina, 11/1/16
Comments: first day i got it i went straight out to the lake, less than 30min, BANG! caught a 21in Bass, hour later a bass had swiped but missed it, threw it back out and he just couldnt resist it! landed a 19incher, sweet bait to use man. Swims great and looks just like an actual bluegill in the water. Idk anything bout it swimming sideways but swims perfectly fine reeled in slowly or fast. Great bait & will be getting more!

From: Max: Fresno, CA 9/8/16

Comments: Lure looks great in water. I've put it next to real bluegill & honestly it's hard to tell the difference. People who are saying it runs sideways have not used it enough. It'll run sideways if you don't put in the effort to make it look life like. Bring it in slow, with some hard twitches along the top & you can make it look pretty nice. Only complaint I have is the durability. Just by casting it about 30 times, some of the paint chipped off & this was before I caught a fish on it. Got a nice 19" largemouth. Good lure, but pricey for its lack of durability

From: Tyrone: Compton, CA 7/17/16

Comments: Looks great but swims on its side. When reeling slow it will lay over on its right side. When reeling fast it lays almost on a 45 degree angle on its right side. I love Savage gear baits but this one isn't up to par

From: Tim: Phoenix, AZ 5/6/16

Comments: I must say I'm impressed with it's swimming. Probly best to use a swimbait rod with it though. I was using a med/hvy 6'10" baitcast rod and couldn't quite get the cast distance as you would from a rod made for it. I fish from shore and I also notice it catches wind very well on cast as it turns in mid air being it's like a sail with flatness. I would definatly recommend this lure given the low price and nice action. (I just bought it and used it for 20 casts. It'll be a producer i think). Good luck to all.

4/18/16

Comments: The lure looks great, unfortunately, it swims sideways. No matter what speed, it just cannot swim correctly. I tried adding some nail weights to tune it, but it can't be corrected. Chalking it up as a lose.

4/15/16

Comments: This lure has awesome action. Perfect fall rate. Colors look great in the water. Major problem is that after two times fishing it, it was already missing an eye and fin. Extremely disappointed with the durability of it. If you can afford to buy a few of these and understand that they'll fall apart pretty quick then go for it but not sure I would buy again because of how quickly it got tore up.
