St. Croix Avid Series Cranking Rods - $190.00 to $200.00

St. Croix Avid Series Cranking Rods

Anyone who throws crankbaits knows it takes the right rod to really be effective. We want medium action rods that won't tear out hooks but not a noodle rod that can't set a hook or move a big bass. Many companies are forced to use fiberglass for their cranking rods because it is very difficult to design a 100% graphite rod that has the right action and power with out collapsing under pressure and shattering with a big fish on the line. St. Croix has used their many years of rod building experience to produce a crankbait rod that performs exactly like you think a crankbait rod should. These blanks are 100% high-modulus SCIII graphite that have been designed to give the perfect medium crankbait action, plenty of hooksetting and fish fighting power and the ability to cast a crankbait as far as you could want. They are very sensitive and will let you feel the lightest take and the lure ticking through grass and brush. These rods are light in weight with top quality Fuji Alconite Concept Guides and premium ergonomically correct cork creating the perfect high-end crankbait rod especially for the angler who throws a lot of crankbaits. The medium rod is perfect for light to medium heavy crankbaits and the medium heavy rod throws medium weight cranks up to the big stuff perfectly.

Comments: I own the MM paired with a Chronarch 101. I use this generally for small crankbaits like 1.0's, 1.5's and such.  These rods are sensitive and fish these baits fantastic!  The fish seem to hook themselves!

Comments: I own the MHM and use it exclusively for lipless crankbaits.  It's almost like the rod was designed specifically for that use.  The moderate blank provides great casting distance but not at a sacrifice - sensitivity is excellent and there is plenty of backbone to bring the fish to the boat.  It's one of six Avid rods I own.  Quality and workmanship are outstanding and they are, in my opinion, THE best rod value for the money.

Comments: I bought the MHM off the recommendation of several people. My plan was to use this with DT10-16's, 4S and 5XD cranks with some DT4's and 1.5's. Rod was ordered on a Monday and showed up in the hardest tube I've ever seen, on Thursday. Rod was packaged like a pro. I was very impressed. I paired this with a Revo S for now. Rod is super super light at 4.1 or 4.2 ounces depending on the scale. It balanced very well with the Revo S. I can cast with one hand and not feel overwhelmed. It has a nice deep flex that I love. I am using 30 pound braid so the deep flex works well for me. I tied on a 4S squarebill and it felt like it was made for this rod. The tip went crazy with action on the first cast. I've owned several graphite cranking rods in the past, but nothing this sensitive. I could feel almost every rock and stump, I bounced the crank off of. I ran some 4S and 5S cranks and a few 5XD's. It felt really good. I only had one DT16 and it felt great. Rod loaded well and I was getting some serious distance. The quality of the cork was great. No chips or bad spots. I could not find one flaw with it at all. I wanted to get the Loomis GL2 cranking rod for the warranty, but it was a lot heavier and didn't feel near as sensitive as the Avid. For the price point, this was the best that I found. The only down side of this rod, is when throwing DT4's, 1.5's and Square A's it felt like too much rod. I think the MM would be better. I still got 20-25 yards with them and felt every tick of the bait, but to get the max distance, the MM would be better.

Comments: I am amazed that these Rods do not get more attention in the marketplace. I have been on the St Croix Pro Staff Program for quite a few years now and I have been blessed to own many of their models....and I still keep coming back to the AVID Rods. These rods are 1st and foremost very durable.....and yet they still give the sensitive properties we all come to expect. Sometimes I feel Rods are (Overbuilt). back in the day-when these Rods come around the market...they were not extremely popular due in part to the advertising campains from others. Belive me when I say "YOU NEED TO FISH AN AVID". You will not be sorry. John

Comments: I have the medium action.  The rod is incredibly light and I like the action, but the medium is surprisingly light action.  I would call this rod medium-light.  I'll get the medium-heavy next time.
