Comments: For years my go-to smallmouth lure has been a lipless crankbait. Until last fall, I fished with the premium, expensive ones.  While fishing with a buddy, the bite really turned on, but he lost his last lipless. He asked to borrow one, so naturally I gave him one of the cheaper ones...a Diamond Shad.  By the end of the day I'd caught 24 fish.  He had 27 on the Diamond Shad! I've fished it all year, and in the last month caught 3 over 4.5 lbs, 5 over 4 and nearly a dozen over 3. The Diamond Shad is remarkably reliable and a good price. My only complaint is that the metallic paint comes off rather quickly (colors do not). You'll be lucky to get more than 2 trips out of a bait. But, they seem to bite just as well when quite a bit of paint is missing.
