We selected these rods out of the lineup of Daiwa Heartland S rods because of their unique qualities. They were designed by Daiwa for salmon fishing with heavy weights in strong currents. The 7'9" rod is rated for 1-8 ounce lures and up to 30 pound test line while the 7'6" rod handles 1/2-6 ounce lures and 25 pound line, which makes them perfect for throwing the big trout lures and swimbaits we feature on this site. The long butt gives plenty of leverage to cast the big baits a long way and plenty of power for setting the hook and moving the big fish you will catch on these lures. The 7'9" rod has a medium action, which means that a large portion of the blank flexes under load. When it releases it will catapult your lure with all the power the rod has rather than just with the tip section. The medium action will also protect the line from breaking and the hook from ripping out when a big, strong fish surges near the boat on short line. The 7'6" rod has a faster tip section, giving you more control over shorter casts plus plenty of distance potential. This rod also shines when fishing frogs and rats, especially with super braid lines. It will cast the frog way back on the mats or pads and you will set the hook with authority and move the fish when you pull.

We feel that the price of this useful rod makes it a great value. Now you can afford to have a rod on the deck dedicated to just throwing big baits rather than tying and retying your flipping stick or other rod that now doubles for that purpose. Check out the Shimano Calcutta, Cardiff and Corvalus reels or the Daiwa Luna as a complement to your Heartland Rod.

Comments:Great rod that didn't work out tremendous for big 9 inch swimbaits(ms slammers, huddlestons, etc.), but works excellent for the 7 inch slammers, fish traps, and AN EXCELLENT FROGGING ROD surprisingly. Walk the dog with the soft tip but still have the power to nail that hook home and pull that bass out of the heavy summer cover. great buy for the price!

Comments:The Diawa Heartland SS791XHRB is my choice for deep jigging King Salmon in the tidal rips of Kodiak Island Alaska. As a charter captian for the last 22 years here I've used up a lot of rods in the course of a season - Not this one. Match it up with a Shimano Tekota line counter spooled with 20 or 30# test Power Pro and 6 ounce Luhr Jensen stingers and you've got a fish killing setup.

Comments: I don't know much for bass fishing but I have used the heartland S 7'6" listed here for Chinook salmon. Casting 2.5 to 4 ounce drift rigs into fast water for spring Chinook is hard on any rod. Fighting 30-40 pounders in that water is murder, most guys use 9' or 10' salmon rods. I've got nothing but respect for this rod, it's fought over 180 Springers in the last 3 years and the only damage it has sustained was a minor problem with the tip eye... apoxy fixed that right on the river bank. If this rod can take down the King, I think it can handle a few bass.
