 Before designing their Accurist Performance-Tuned Casting Reel, Quantum took a long look
at
their reels and talked to a lot of people who know what does and doesn't work in
a baitcasting reel. The result of all this research is a design that
features several industry firsts. For instance, it is well known that centrifugal anti-backlash
brakes are superior to fixed magnetic brakes, but having to remove the sideplate to access
the centrifugal brakes has always been a problem. This takes lots of time, and in some models you run the risk of dropping the
sideplate in the
water and losing it. Quantum has solved this dilemma by offering the first centrifugal brakes
that can be adjusted externally, with just a twist of the control knob. The Quantum accurist PT
reel offers 9 brakes that can be engaged and adjusted instantly for changing conditions, like
when you are casting into the wind or with the wind, or when a light breeze turns into a
howling gale.
The Accurist also features specially designed bearings that offer increased life and
smoothness by using customized bearing materials that complement each other for
optimum performance. These bearings are lubricated with a specially designed oil that will
not break down and is not too heavy, allowing the spool top performance at the
incredible speeds modern baitcasters can achieve. The Accurist has a one-piece aluminum
frame to keep the internal parts where they belong and minimize flex, and super-light spools
that will reduce inertia and allow the spool to ramp up instantly to speeds of over 20,000
RPMs on the cast. This reel also has an accessible flipping switch that cannot be
accidentally turned on, protecting your cast and reel from ruin. Taken together, all these
features add up to a great reel at a very reasonable price. |
