About This Rod

Featuring Shimano's advanced TC4 blank technology, the Shimano Clarus Crankbait Casting Rods feature an ideal range of technique specific actions and tapers for any crankbait you choose to throw. Each rod also comes equipped with premium Fuji Aluminum Oxide Guides at Fuji Concept Spacing for increased casting distance and long lasting durability. New Shimano custom, no-thread reel seats also have all but the essential material removed for a lightweight sturdy base for you reel, and the reel seats also fasten from below the reel for a sleek new threadless look. Comments: I think the Clarus line of rods by Shimano might be one of the best kept secrets going. If you compare the specs on the Clarus, Compre and Crucial you are getting the Clarus which has all the same components and features of the higher priced Compre's and Crucials other than the IM (modulus count). IM8, IM9 and IM10 on the casting models respectively. (can be seen on Shimano's website with specs on all their products). On the crankbait models all have the TC4 blank so I don't see a reason to spend the extra cash on the Compre or Crucial honestly. Can get 2 Clarus rods for 1 Crucial basically which is a no-brainer to me. One of the best values out there on the market in my opinion. Love how they feel in the hand and the action on the rods is fantastic. Might be a hair under powered compared to their rating in comparison to other brands but I won't complain. Have the 7'MH model and it is perfect for throwing small to medium diving cranks. If you want a deep cranking rod I would go with the 7'6 model. I also use the 7MH for my jerkbaits as I like more length on my jerkbait rods and a little stiffer that the average guy fishing softer 6'6 medium action rods. But that is just me. It does a fantastic job and can cast a SPRO McStick a mile on 10lb Seaguar InvisX on a Lews Speed Spool. The all black combo looks pretty slick also.

Comments: bought a 7ft med heavy paired up with a shimano chronarch 5:5:1.  What a set up!!! Rod has everything I was looking for in a crankbait rod. Very sensitive and lots of backbone. Pulls deep diving cranks without a problem. Im interested in the whole line up and like how they have gone technique specific. Highly recommended and nice price point.
