Comments: i just bought this bad boy last week. looks great cats well. zero problems.. i also have a Ci4 as well. going to be honest. if i had to do it again. id get the CI4, sustain is a great reel, the only real noticable difference if the drag. the drag is much more smoother on the sustain. Great reel, looks great feels great. casts a mile. i paired it up with a Loomis NRX.. I'm looking forward to pulling in that ten pounder with it.. Shimano # solid !!

Comments: I can't even begin to describe all the problems I've had with these reels. Sticky drags, drag clickers failing, way too much handle play, sloppy rough gear alignment, rough oscillation gears that make noise, all from brand new reels. If you can find a good one they are awesome reels, but good luck finding one that doesn't have issues right out of the box. Shimano quality control has serious problems and their customer service has gotten terrible!

From: Adam: Chicago, IL 8/13/14

Comments: First off this reel is not black. Its a metallic dark blue. The handle and part of the spool are black but don't match well with the rest of the reel. The second time i used it the foam grip on the knob came unglued and kept sliding up against the handle stem. The knob on this reel is PLASTIC! It's a plastic tube with two bearings in it with a foam grip glued to it. It has an aluminum cap on it though to fool you into thinking it's high quality. The drag clicker gear is also plastic. All the internals are identical to the Stradic fj. The  extra bearings are in the plastic handle and one in the drag. This reel isn't that smooth and is very noisy for it's price. If your expecting it to be smoother than the stradic fj it's not. It's basically the same reel. definitely not worth the money! I will be selling mine and buying more stradics.

Comments: bought the sustain 4000fg about 4 months ago because i was tired of my penn battle 4000 and conquer 5000 reels breaking down and grinding gears after only a weeks worth of use. the battle lasted about a month before problems started happening. the sustain i use about 6 days a week for about 2 hrs a day. no such problems and the gears feel like the first day i took the reel out of the box! the x-ship feature and paladin gear durability feature are awesome and really work! after 3 months i serviced the reel and this black coating on the main gear hasn't even worn off yet! on an average fishing day i will probably cast and retrieve about 150 to 200 times

Comments: just got to take out this beauty the other day. mounted it to the new legend xtreme for drop shot and i couldn't have asked for a more well balanced, sexier looking combo than that. when u hook a fish and feel how smooth the drag and retrieve are, u won't be able to help but smile.

From: Jeroo

Comments: Had the reel for 2 months now and I'm very impressed. Lured about a dozen yellow belly now, the drag is smoooooth. Awesome fun using light line.

Comments: Just got my Sustain 2500 this week, so far no complaints besides no extra spool. It is everything i hoped it would be and more. Extremely smooth retrieve, excellent drag system, and lightweight. Balances well on a Dobyns 703S. The price might scare you, but when hold this reel in your hands, and attach it to your favorite rod and hit the water, you'll know it was money well spent.

Comments: Great Reel....Smooth Casting...Awesome Retrieve...The X-ship shows a difference....The Fast Drag is great as well....Pulled in a 30 in Red Fish without too much effort...It was a good fight but the reel was up for the task!...I have the new Stradic FJ and just got this one as well...There is a slight difference between the two...and I prefer this one...Its worth the extra money...Just buy it! You won't regret it! On a side note, the demo program with TackleWarehouse is great! Thanks Guys!

Comments: Awesome! Shimano has set a new standard for plastic reels. BTW, the only thing "astounding" about the Stella is the price, not the weight. Been there.

From: Charles: Baton Rouge, LA

Comments: Finally, a great spinning reel from this company.  My Stradic's bought in the late 1990's had gears that crapped out after 2 seasons, so have not bought a Shimano again until recently (did not like the cheap cast-aluminum gears they used for many years, even on their most expensive models).  These are way better.  Hopefully the smoothness will last!  Their new features (longer handle and new pinion gear alignment)compensate for the high gear ratio's lack of power - great reels!  I have the 3000 and 4000, both fitted with 6 Lb. line and high-end St. Croix Rods.  Love them!

Comments: For $300+, they should throw in a spare spool.
