Overview

Designed by legendary crankbait angler, David Fritts, the Berkley Frittside 7 Crankbait is based on the balsa wood plug that helped him win the 1993 Bassmaster Classic. Featuring a flat-sided profile that mimics a wide variety of baitfish, the Berkley Frittside Crankbait delivers a tight balsa-like thumping action and flash that is deadly during tough conditions when fish are sluggish or heavily pressured. The Frittside 7 Crankbait is precisely balanced to increase casting distance and provide stability when using high retrieve speeds.

Equipped with high quality hardware throughout, the Berkley Frittside Crankbaits come armed with sticky sharp Berkley Fusion19 treble hooks that provide lightning-fast hook penetration, which is crucial for short striking and lethargic fish. Built with a weighted bill to dive down to depth quickly, the Berkley Frittside 7 Crankbait provides proven balsa action with the durability, casting performance, and custom paint jobs you would expect from a modern hard plastic crankbait.

Comments: If David Fritts and Berkley would put circuit board bills in their Frittside series, they would have the best crankbait ever made. Hell, call it the Fritts Circuit Breaker and get on with it. I am shocked that all of your so called Berkley scientists released a crankbait with such a fragile bill. Their testing was lacking.

From: Doug: Kingston,TN 5/5/23

Comments: We crush the fish on this bait. I have a box of 50 with all the colors, except Rubbertail. My partner kicked my butt today with that color and I have 3 on order. The bills will snap off, but if you clear weeds by hand, it's a nonissue. The Special Red Craw in the spring is awesome. We've had 100 fish days on the Columbia River banging the rocks in 3-5'. The 7 is the best size for overall use. Make sure your pausing on the retrieve, as the slow rising bait will entice lots of strikes during the pause. I can't tell you how many fish we catch on the last pause at the boat. Must have for every fisherman's arsenal!

From: Peter: Washington 4/30/23

Comments: Broke the bill on the first day. Slapped it on the water to clear some grass a few times and the entire bill was gone. Caught 5-10 fish on it.

From: Damon: Louisiana 4/17/23

Comments: Although I did catch a fish it's not a good crank bait to be banging on rocks. The bill split in half and the crank bait is ruined. Berkley has to figure out how to make this bill more durable.

From: Unknown: 4/4/23

Comments: The honest review on the Frittside.... Pros: Decent Colors, Silent and Rattle version, Sharp and Strong Hooks. Casts very well on 10lb flouro and quality reel. Mine have all run true. I've never broken a bill/lip. Fish flat out eat em up! Cons: Hooks are a tad smaller than I like so I usually up the size. Overall: GREAT crank! Catches fish! Remember it comes in a size 7 & 9 as well. Most anglers only use the #5 in colder water but the 7 & 9 work for me all year!

From: shallowrunner: Louisville 4/1/23

Comments: The bill broke after catching one fish split in half only made 5 cast with the bait brand new out of the package. Berkley needs to fix this issue then it would be an outstanding crankbait, runs true in the water cast great etc..

From: ROGER: VA 12/28/22

Comments: It's a great bait except for the Ghost Morning Dawn started to loose paint almost instantly. The other colors have held up perfectly. The bait is a blast to use in tidewater. It catches Bass, Pike Minnows and yes a rainbow Trout that I didn't even know existed in the slews.

From: Wade: OR 10/15/22

Comments: This crank has great action that catches lots of fish. The only problem I have with it is that the bill breaks very easily.

From: Richard: Butternuts, NY 9/8/22

Comments: Wouldn't recommend. I have 4 only used 1 so far it's hard to keep tuned, and the bill split and broke contacted Berkley they said the would replace it, but I haven't seen it yet. Also the hooks kink hooked 3 fish in a row and that made me loose them half way to the boat I'm done with berkley.

From: Sam: Louisiana 8/28/22

Comments: These are great baits, they catch fish. I have confidence in 46 degree water up to hot summer water with them. The only problem is 100% the bill. They do break easily. I know everyone hits something from time to time with a crankbait, you have to be careful with these or they will crack.

From: Jeff: Pennsylvania 4/7/22

Comments: I bought and first used the Frittside 7 in early December and have used it twice in 65-degree (Texas) water. Well, it just catches bass. 35 in two trips. It casts better than many crankbaits and seems to get down to about 6 feet on 15 lb copolymer line. It has a tight wiggle and doesn't transmit a lot of action to the rod. No issues with bill breakage. Good hooks; the bass have mostly stayed buttoned up. I'll buy more.

From: John: Texas 12/13/21

Comments: I have a 5jr. I wanted a small crank that casts well, does not dive deep that will work in cold water and catch smart fish. This does everything I need except cast well. It's part of the deal though...most small finesse cranks like this cast horribly and I can tolerate it. I use a whippy baitcast rod and a very good reel. This bait is most def worth a try. No bill issues for me but I treat it gently because I do not want bill breaking issues.

From: Jason: 11/17/21

Comments: I bought 5 of these and have had the bills break on two of them (after only a couple hours of fishing). While I do like the action I don't think they are worth the money since they break so quickly.

From: Zach: Waco 4/22/21

Comments: I ordered this in size 7 to see what the fuss was about. The reviews that mention durability issues are surprising to me because the crankbait seems very stout in the bill area. Its also weighted in a way that makes it suspend when you stop reeling it or even sink instead of rising like a squarebill so that's neat. It casts very far compared to like a Rapala Shad Rap or other similar crankbaits. Finish was amazing. Looks super realistic.

Comments: I have fished the Frittside for several months in all conditions.  It is a great bait for largemouth and smallmouth. Users need to understand that the baits are meant to be fished in the depths intended for each size.  You can't throw the size 9 into 2 foot of water and expect it to not get hung up if there are rocks or brush 5 foot deep.  Any crankbait will.  The size 5 is intended to be fished on spinning gear and light line.  I can honestly say I have yet to break a lip on one of the baits and have fish several for at least 50 hours each.  Also, the original design of this bait goes back to the early 1980s.  Two fishermen in North Carolina were hand carving them from balsa and started to sell them to a very few friends. I still have 3 of them.  We won many tournament with these baits.  Glad another company has started to make them again, even if they are hard plastic.

From: Greg: Greenwood, SC 3/19/21

Comments: I'm not sure why people are giving these bad reviews I personally love them. They are awesome in the cold water and they kill in the fall. I have caught plenty of fish on these and have no problem with mine what so ever but i can't say anything for the 9ft diver. I have never used them.

From: Jessie: Clarksville, TN 3/17/21

Comments: So ive bought several of the Fritts 5 jr's.  They do catch fish....but the bills break very easily.  for a $9 plus bait they should of better quality.  Ive got a pile of broken 5 jr's.  I do not reccomend them.  If you want a quality flat side, the old Flat A is hard to beat and they are $5 and the bills are indestructable.

From: B.J: Kentucky 3/17/21

Comments: I've fished the Frittside 5 Ghost Morning Dawn,it has caught a 5 pounder a 4 pounder, and 3  2 pounders. The fusion hooks are the real deal. A fish catching machine here on Lay Lake..

From: Tiger : Shelby, AL 3/12/21

Comments: I'm not sure why these are receiving so much hype.  They sink, poor weighting makes them cast horrible, and the hooks are junk.  The bill cracks easily too.  If you want a flat side that is tolerable to fish with, go get the Rapala Ott Defoe series.

From: TP: Illinois 3/11/21

Comments: I originally purchased the #9 because of its size and weight, but when trying to fish it in 5ft or less I was constantly hanging up. Also, the bait would kite 95% of the casts I made. Finally, Berkley heard the issues and made the "Biggun". The #5 "Biggun" has the body and weight of a #7 and the depth of a #5 perfect for that winter depth fishing. Bonus the bait doesn't kite anymore which I believed came from the large lip on the #9. Took it out first time and did some serious damage.

From: Unknown 3/5/21

Comments: I've fished the Frittside 5 in special red craw all winter and can tell you without reservation in my experience it's the best coldwater crankbait for largemouth out there. Caught them in water temp as low as 40 but when it's 45 and above they will absolutely inhale the Frittside. Ready to go out of the package, runs true and the fusion 19 hooks are as good as it gets! There's a reason this bait in special red craw is currently sold out everywhere on the planet!  Nuff said.

From: Bill: Elizabeth City, NC 2/12/21

Comments: Picked up two of the 5's and they both slow sink. Balsa like action

From: James: Lizella, GA 1/19/21

Comments: My favorite crankbait. The only down side is your bill may get cracked or broken after several catches. I must have caught at 15 - 20 bass and it finally cracked when a slab crappie hammered it. After that many catches though, it's worth the money if you ask me

From: Mike: GA 12/4/20

Comments:I got two of the #7's and was very disappointed to find that instead of being slow rising floating lures as listed on the package they are both almost slow descending sinking lures. Personally I have no use for them because they sink into cover instead of rising free of it.

From: Will - Concord, NC 11/1/20

Comments:Junk, don't waste your money. The bills on these cranks break off with almost no pressure. I've had them break clean off in rocky water, standard casting AND fighting a fish. While they look great and the weight balance is very nice, you can't count on these baits to stay in one piece. It's important to note I've been tournament fishing for over 25 years and have NEVER had an issue with a crankbait like these. Back in the day Poe's paint would crack, but otherwise no issues with dozens of brands. Berkley had a great idea, great marketing person but got super cheap in the factory with soft and non reliable plastic. Save your money, these are JUNK.

From: Morgan: Waterloo, IA 8/7/20

Comments: Bought 2 and got maybe 6-10 casts out of both of them before the bills broke off.

From: Unknown 4/22/20

Comments:Used this on a windy day and found it to cast quite well in the wind. No issues with hooks bending after landing several fish in the 3 to 5 lb range. Tracks true and do issues at all. Will have one tied on throughout spring. Hope to used it in rivers as well.

From: Richard: 4/8/20

Comments:I found it to be very difficult to tune them to where they consistently run straight. I have been tuning cranks for many years without a problem but these Frittsides seem very finicky to get them dialed in to run straight and as a result, I have lost confidence in using them. Too bad to as it could have filled a nice niche in my cold water crankbait arsenal if it were more reliable.

From: Gotch: 2/26/20

Comments: What a great coldwater crankbait. I fished both Saturday and Sunday in 55 degree water and caught a couple of 3.5 lbers as well as some 2 lbers on it. I fished both the Lone Ranger and Candy Apple Red Craw Frittside 5. The packaging is tough to get the bait out of.

From: Kevin: Houma, LA 2/24/20

Comments:Glad I spent $10 on a crankbait and bent the hooks just getting it out of the package. That should tell you what you need to know about this lure.
