Update- I tried this on a spinning reelAfter I wrote my last review in June 2024, I spooled some 10lb Big Game onto a 3000 sized spinning reel. It's Sept 27th now and the line is perfectly fine, ready to be used tomorrow morning. I spool up with line conditioner, and this (notoriously coily after time on a reel) line is ready to fish still. Stop tripping, stop the hate. This line is great.
Big Game monofilament lineJust read a review saying BIG Game was bottom of the barrel, crappy line. I know good and well this guy was talking off the top of his head. Anyone who has used this line extensively like I have can tell you, if there's a better mono out there, I haven't found it yet. And I'm 76 years young and still using this great line!!!
DEPENDABLEThis line always delivers. Strong and abrasion resistant. It stays useable on reels for a fair amount of time, as well. I have never tried the lower lb tests on a spinning reel but I would imagine it would do okay but get coily (not a real word but you know what I mean) after a while.
Probably the best monoI have used a number of mono brands from 2-40lb test and I think this one is the best value (ie combination of price and other characteristics). The line is definitley stronger than the rating, pretty abrasion resistant, and good knot strength. If you're using this line the main thing to know is that you can probably get away with lighter line than you need because it is so strong.
Best line, period!I've tried all the expensive fluorocarbon lines out there & liked a few of them; however, my fishing partner recommended that I try this line and I've never looked back! This line is incredible! Extremely strong & casts like a dream. Even though it's inexpensive, it performs like a dream. I've caught some monster bass with this line and pulled them out of some gnarly stuff with no break offs! I use 6lb. thru 20lb and they all perform great! Highly recommended!

Comments: I wonder how many millions of dollars are wasted each year by those not using this line? Money simply thrown away carelessly. I try the latest and greatest only to return to this line. Anyone remember Dacron line? Copolymers were next. Or photochromic line? Ever read a post about reel drag issues only to later read they use braid tied directly to the spool. Or another post about braid leaders snapping on hook set and later read they used 65lb braid and a two foot 12lb leader with the drag locked down. All this with a 7ft+ heavy action rod? Just try this line on a REASONED rod reel combo, a well tied knot and sharp hook. The stretch helps keep fish hooked, the manageability is great while casting and above all it will not empty your pocket.

Comments: All my friends use high end flouro and I can buy a bulk spool of this for the same price or less than their small spools. I love this stuff. It is very strong and in the 15 years or so that I've used it, I can only remember once that I've broke it on a hookset. I've broken flouro on my hookset many times in one trip and switched back to this with no issues. If you break the big game then it is time to respool.

Comments: I use 10 and 12 for crankbaits on baitcast reels. Strong and cheap. I get about two months of regular use (with line conditioner) before needing to respool. Talk about a value. Hurry up and buy.

Comments: If the scientists at Berkley could somehow manage to pull the team off the Maxscent project to make a fluro that behaved EXACTLY like Big Game, it would change the fishing industry forever. Limp. Cheap. I use it as backing on casters AND spinning gear.....often as a leader for braids. I'm a frugal SOB and I'm always looking for ways to save $$$. Please don't stop making this line.

Comments: Honestly better than Fluro. I use 15lb for flipping and T-Rigs and swimbaits. You can't go wring with this line.

Comments: Awesome line for big swimbait fishing. I've tried a lot of different brands of line but there's nothing I trust like Big Game. It's strong, it gets coily, but it's cheap so I just re-spool every few trips.

Comments: I have tried other more expensive lines and none of them can match the Berkley Big Game for knot strength and overall performance. If you are like me and use braid for you main line and you need a leader don't waste you money for other "name brands" that cost much more and don't perform any better and in most cases perform worse. Berkley Big Game Mono works and at a great price.

Comments: I use brad to a leader on all of my reels. I have tried various types of leaders and Berkley Trilene Big Game (various pound test) is by far the best overall for my fishing. It's overall strength, durability and knot tying is better than other lines. Great value and great performance.

Comments: This line is AWESOME !!!!! It has never let me down , use a good knot and you won't have a problem!!

Comments: I've been using this line FOREVER. IT HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN... I have never broken off, the line isn't coily like the expensive fluro or poly is.... WHY would you pay those ridiculous prices for "high end" crappy line when you can just use this. I will tell you the line is underrated (which is a good thing) ie 10lb doesn't break at 10lbs... it breaks more at 15... the 20lb big game is pretty thick... i only use 12 on my med-hvy rods and 15 on my hvy rods... 8 or 10 on my med spinning rod. Been doing this for years... catching tons. You are stupid if you pay for expensive line.

Comments: This line is bottom of the barrel mono. Like literally... it's garbage. However, it has an amazing purpose for me. To save money on purchasing quality monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braid, I back every single one of my reels with Big Game. It's cheap, it fills up the bottom part of the spool that I'll never use, and when I change out the line on my reels with something I wouldn't purchase at Walmart, it helps save me money.

Comments: I've been using this line on my casting reels from fresh to salt water for over 30 years. I don't think I have EVER had this line break while battling a fish. It is extremely strong. I've caught 25 pound salmon and 20lb striped bass on 12lb test. Only downfall is the memory. In the past, I would change it out often. the price allowed me to. Now a days KVD line conditioner is a god send. Takes care of a lot of the memory problems. Knot strength is good, I really don't have any other line to compare it to. This has been my go to line almost seems like forever. I was super thrilled when it came out in 8lb test. If you haven't tried it you should, The price is right, and it's a great product.

Comments: After being recommended this line by a friend I am extremely impressed. I bought 15 pound and put it on one of my casting reels. My first impressions were not great because it had a good bit of memory and would fly off the reel if I released the spool. I soaked the spool with line conditioner and the memory was gone by the next morning. When I made my first cast with it I was blown away with the casting distance I got. I can't speak much for the knot strength or strength in general but I did boat flip a 4.5 pounder with it with no issue.

Comments: Good stuff. Especially for the price I do not think ive lost a fish due to this line yet, though I havent gotten to test its true strength with my swimbaits i still trust it and always have it on my rods for a tournament
From: Dane: Dayton,Ohio 1/6/17
Comments: Hands down the best mono for the price. I use the 8 pound test for spinning set ups and the 12 pound test for bait casters. I have never broken off on a fish and the knot strength is good.
From: Blake: Columbus, WI 10/4/16
Comments: Outstanding line for crankbaits. Incredibly durable & strong line for running medium crankbaits. I highly recommend it especially for the price.
From: Brandon: Fort Knox, KY 5/22/15
Comments: If you are looking for the strongest mono out there this is it. I have been using this line for the last 20 years and it has not failed me once. It is however not the greatest line to use on spinning tackle in test strengths greater than 10 lbs and even then it will still have some memory issues especially with finesse applications. If you are a power fisherman using crankbaits, spinnerbaits etc. it will not give you any issues. On baitcasters, you will have next to no issue with memory.

Comments: I got snagged in 20 ft of water, and when my buddy put the trolling motor on full blast and pulled out, this line wouldn't snap. This is the strongest mono but I go through the eye of the hook twice to prevent break offs
From: Andrew: Ga 12/9/14
Comments: This stuff is awesome! Obviously it's not for the finesse tactics cause the line diameter is pretty big, but when it comes to strength from a MONO it's second to non. It casts well and memory is manageable. I pull through thick MN weeds with 15lb to 20lbs like it was braid. Best thing about it is that it's cheap so you can go though a spool and not really worry about it! Best mono on the market IMO!
From: Mitch: MN 7/31/14
Comments: Best line you can buy. Been using it for 15-20 years and it's NEVER let me down. I use it for everything . Use it with confidence.
From: Scott: Canton, GA 4/19/14
Comments: this is my go to mono strong & cast well will not break the bank use it on everything from spinning to casting 6 to 25lb test really tested it hard hooksets & big bass cant go wrong with it
