Overview

The Daiwa Samurai Braid is unlike any other braided line on the market. Sure it's strong and sensitive, but it's also noticeably thinner, softer, smoother and more flexible than ordinary braids. The combined strength and sensitivity of this unique eight-strand weave braid, provides super thin diameter, smoothness, softness and flexibility.

The unique qualities of Samurai Braid work together to ensure greater castability, less line noise on the retrieve, and a faster sink rate due to reduced current resistance. In addition to enabling long, trouble-free casts and allowing you to get your bait or lure in the strike-zone quickly, Samurai Braid has virtually zero stretch. That means you'll be able to sense the most subtle hits or pick-ups and set the hook with authority even at greater depths. Available in 150-yard, 300-yard and 1500-yard spools.

Comments: Amazing braid, it does fade but is extremely thin & strong. On a daiwa sv, it casts amazing. Mainly use this for pitching, flipping & punching but I'm going use it on all my reels. 70lb is what I use and it's thinner than power pro 30#.

From: Ben: Lake Arrowhead 10/3/22

Comments: I use 40 and 70 pound Samurai and love this line for my MH and XH/XXH swimbait applications. I took a chance with the 15 pound line and this size is garbage, do not try this line. Very fragile. The few times I took it out on my M spinning rods it shreds within a few casts. Leader knots slipped. Way too many problems so just be sure to avoid the 15 pound.

From: Unknown: Massachusetts 5/9/22

Comments: I've tried so many braids in my search to find a good deal, and keep coming back to this. In any diameter the casting distance seems exceptional compared to the competition. I've had it last 3 and even 4 seasons of intense tournament fishing. It's smooth, reliable, long lasting, and boosts casting distance. I've given up trying to find something cheaper.

From: Brian: Chicago, IL 5/3/21

Comments: I just recently bought the Samurai 20lb test and paired it with my Certate 4000 on the Phenix Cicada, 9', 6-12 lb, for salmon in the Sacramento River using Mepps Flying C 7/8 oz.. Wow!!! It casts a mile, very quiet. As of this review I haven't caught a salmon yet, so I don't know how the line will hold up when I'm fighting the fish (hopefully soon). The line seems and feels high quality comparing to PowerPro or Spiderwire. For now if I'm using braided line it will be the Daiwa Samurai.

Comments: I love this braid. I've tried several other brands that were less expensive for my drop shot reels, but they frayed easily, and some lost all the color within 2 hours in the water.  This braid is very smooth, durable and lasts a very long time. I spool on a mono backing then 15# Samurai and tie on an 8# fluro leader. I can get 2 fills with 1-150 yd spool.  I will not waste my money on the cheaper stuff any more.

From: Darlene: Los Angeles 5/6/19

Comments: For this much money you would think that they could use a  permanent dye on the braid.  The dye comes off the braid easier than it comes off your fingers when you try to wash it off.   Very disappointed thought I was getting a good product.

From: Brad: Thousand Oaks, CA 3/31/18

Comments: Best braid I have used to date.  For all the people snapping off, might want to check your guides for knicks in the eye.  The one and only time I have ever broken braid was old style power pro flipping at lake falcon and it snapped twice on a hookset (50lb).  Once I discovered the eye issue on this particular pole, I havent had a single issue since. Also, comes off a spinning reel like a dream.  Liked it so much I went ahead and spooled my 2 young sons spinning setups as well.  Longer/shorter casts?  My 10yr old has no problem launching it far enough to cover any situation....nor do I.

From: C. Miller: New Braunfels, Tx 2/16/18

Comments: This line is designed for flipping. It's not made for casting especially distance. So all you nay Sayers that hate this braid should try the daiwa j-braid x8 or x4 for casting. But this stuff is made for flipping. Been using it a long time and had no issues. I use 70lb for flipping and I use 55lb x8 j-braid for casting frogs.  40lb for trigs and jigs. 30lb x4 jbraid for Dropshot. I personally think that daiwa has the best braid on the market, but it's technique specific. That is why so many are having issues.

From: Zach: Michigan 7/8/17

Comments: I use the 70lb. for flipping up to a 2oz. weight in heavy vegetation and have not broke off  yet. I set the hook with the best of them and haven't had any failures. Line is super smooth off reel and rod guides.

From: JRM - Ocala, FL 3/13/17

Comments: really torn about this line. Very smooth & quiet. The lack of noise from the line rubbing against the cover produces more strikes, significantly so. However the lack of abrasion resistance around cover like reeds & cattails means broken lines. Compared to power pro & suffix 832 again the breakage is significant. So its more bites vs. more lost fish. Hard call, still experimenting.

From: Id124: FL 10/1/16

Comments: I tried several different braids a few years ago & finally settled on this because it was the smoothest through the guides. I used it exclusively & up until yesterday had no problems with it. Yesterday I lost two lures on the cast from the string breaking & then after that I had a random birdsnest, cleared that & then lost another lure on a hook set. This line was maybe 4 months old. I'm hoping it was a bad batch but for now I'm going to switch to Kast King.

From: Kevin: Oakdale, CA 7/13/16

Comments: I have used the 20 pound braid for my drop shot reel with a flourocarbon leader & the thirty pound for my spinning reel with flouro leader for years with great confidence, success, and dependability. I use the 55lb for salt water surf fishing for striper bass & bluefish. I have tried them all and this is "The Best Of The Best" without a doubt.

From: Don: Dover, NH 6/16/16

Comments: This stuff flat out sucks. I have never had line (especially braid) fail so much. It is so bad that every time I go fish I lose a bait because the line breaks. It's not even 6 months old and snaps daily. Usually it sounds like a firework going off inside the reell when I cast. It's never my knot either, always between the rod tip and the reel.

From: Grant: Leawood, KS 5/14/15

Comments: Used Samurai for years on my Steez reels. It's very soft and quiet but it can be temperamental. It will backlash for no apparent reason and break for no reason as well. I like the Smackdown much better. Not as quiet or soft but overall, it's a better line, IMO.

From: Richie: Tallahassee, FL 4/30/15

Comments: All I have used is the 70, and it has done me well. Frogs and pitching are what I do with it. It's soft, and that makes me happy. I keep it on my spools 6-8 months before molesting my wallet to buy more.

From: Jay6: USA 8/20/14

Comments: Best Braid in the world!!, nothing else can match this stuff, has stood up to everything in Australia I've thrown it at and next to no wind knots ever #1 Braid

From: Craig: Australia

Comments: This line is the best braid ever it doesn't fray and come apart like most braids out there it casts a mile and does not make any noise while retrieving.

From: Charles, Frankston, TX

Comments: glad all you guys dont like this stuff, because it your money im taking with all your lost and broke off fish using the cheaper stuff. if you break this stuff you need to keep fishing with mono

From: Johnny: Bham, AL

Comments: One of the very best braids on the market not sure how you are breaking 70 but i have not had a single break off.

From: Louis: Green Bay, WI

Comments: Used 80 pound braid for trolling for strippers in the Bay.  Line parted causing a lost fish.  inspected the line and it was frayed as if it just came apart.  This is useless junk.  Will go back to Power Pro any day.

From: JP: Woodbridge, VA

Comments: I must have gotten a defective spool because this braid has broken on me twice after, two outings both failures happend above the knot one about 10' and one 3".and both happend on differnt rods so it wasnt a crack in the guide needles to say i'm perplexed????

From: Marlon: FL

Comments: Great stuff! I use 70 lb for frogs and pitching...you know, MAN fishing. It's softer than other braids and will last you all year. And it should b/c I had to start selling crack to afford it. Take care of it. Anyone that has problems with this line ain't takin care of it, tying crap knots, or are just lame.

From: meatwad: Compton

Comments: I use the 15 pound with my spinning reel. love it. 55lb on my flipping and jig reels. love it. 70lb on my swimbait reel. love it! no braid holds color so don't buy a dark color thinking it's gonna stay that way, but it does seem to keep some green. I have yet to break any of the braid so far. Smooth on the guides, easy to cast all sizes, great knot strength. A little pricey but worth it considering how long braid lasts.

From: Brett

Comments: This braid is no good. Used the 55 for sinkos, buzzbaits, frogs. I found the knots would not stay tight with this braid and would pull thru the hook eye of my worm hooks. I had a 4lb fish snap me off. You will be disappointed, Spiderwire is the way to go!

From: Greg: Stockton, CA

Comments: Samurai Braid is not thinner than other braid on the market. Daiwa marketed the braid for the actual breaking strength of the line, while other manufacturers mark their braid well below the actual breaking strength. 40# Samurai breaks right around 40# while 40# PowerPro, Sufix, etc break at strengths over 65 pounds. I'll give the Samurai Braid props though, the line feels really nice and flows through the guides very well. With that said, I'll stick to the cheaper alternatives that provide me with a potentially higher breaking strain at a much lower cost.

From: Mike: FL

Comments: Best braid i have ever used..i use it for tournaments and it has never turned me down. i use it on all my spinning rods except one

From: Art: CA

Comments: Great braid. Very easy to cast on a baitcasting reel. Its super smooth and super tough. In my opinion its better than PowerPro. Remember, you always get what you pay for.

From: Daniel: NC

Comments: I have been using Daiwa Samurai (55lb and up) for the last two years and it is hands down the best braid I have used. The line is smooth, quiet, and super strong. I have not yet been able to break the 70lb. I have freed snagged lures from trees many times and even snapped a gamakatsu 5/0 Ewg Superline hook in half. The line is a little on the expensive side, but it has paid for itself many times over by freeing would-be lost lures. I made the switch from PowerPro two years ago and have not looked back.

From: Ed: Stockton, CA

Comments: I got the 15 and on a spinning reel, it was constantly kinking and knotting. Threw it away

From: John: Chicago, IL

Comments: I was very disappointed in this line. I love the fluoro and thought this would be the same high quality....it was not! I had the 15lb on a spinning reel with 16lb fluoro leader. It was so bad I sent it back and got some power pro which has no issues.

From: Alan: Mansfield, TX

Comments: This is the best braid I've ever used. Extremely strong, doesn't wear. You could pull a Chevy pickup out of the lake and it wouldn't break.

From: John Paul: Corsicana, TX

Comments: I had a friend recommend this line to me and so far I'm impressed. I used the 70lb flipping and the 55lb on a frog/toad and find it very smooth casting, seems to be strong (pulled several 5+ fish out of hydrilla with the 55lb), doesn't seem to shed or turn your rod, reels, and hands green, and holds its color well. I haven't used it flipping enough to really comment on a short line hook set as far as knot strength and shock on the hook set. But so far I think Ill be switching braids.

From: Tony: Waco, TX

Comments: I have fished many many brands of braid and I find Samurai to be the best I have used. I fish spinnerbaits most and the diameter and cast-ability of this line is very good.

From: Grandpa Fish: Carey, ID

Comments: I bought this line because it was an eight-braid weave and smaller diameter. Flipping grass, I broke it above the knot on the first fish. I'll be moving on to another brand.
