Overview

Pushing the envelope in terms of compact, dependable design, the Daiwa Tatula 100 Casting Reel is the smallest, lightest Tatula ever built. Encased in an aluminum frame for increased rigidity and decreased weight, the Daiwa Tatula 100 Casting Reel achieves a smaller, more palmable construction, while maintaining all of the cutting-edge technologies that have made the Tatula lineage so dominant.

Leveraging key performance technologies, the Daiwa Tatula 100 Casting Reel is equipped with a T-Wing System, which eliminates the steep line angle and friction that slows line flow while casting. An advanced Zero Adjuster spool tension setting holds the spool shaft without any side-to-side play, so you can achieve the appropriate amount of braking power with a few quick clicks of the magnetic dial.

Focusing on form as well as function, the Daiwa Tatula 100 Casting Reel features updated cosmetics that include a matte black finish and the iconic Tatula spider icon. Complete with redesigned soft touch handles for increased comfort, the Daiwa Tatula 100 Casting Reel maintains all of the winning attributes that anglers have come to expect from the Tatula name – now in a smaller, lighter package.

Features:

-Compact 38mm size
-Featherweight 6.9oz
-Zero adjuster
-T-Wing system
-Redesigned soft touch handle knobs
-Aluminum frame for rigidity and smoothness
-Well suited for finesse applications

A great reel for skipping lures. This is the smoothest bait casting reel I have ever used. Maybe it’s the T/wing line guide that makes it possible for me to cast about 50% farther than I can with my other 10 ball bearing casting reels. I can cast a greater distance with the Tatula reel than any other reel I have ever used. Its smoothness and ease of casting makes it a great choice for skipping lures under docks and trees when used with the right rod of course. It’s a little pricey for a 7 ball bearing reel but I guess the smoothness and ease and distance of casting makes up for price difference. My favorite is the 7 to 1 retrieve speed.

Bang for BuckThese reels can be used for 90% of bass fishing, they come in all different ratios for that bait specific technique. The Tatula series has undoubtedly improved the number of fish I catch for several reasons, but mainly due to affordability. At this price point nothing compares in my opinion. The Twing system is an absolute game changer when it comes to casting distance. As you cast, you can get away with compensating power for technique due to the overrun being able spool off the reel without the guide causing a backlash. What that translates to is really being able dial the brakes back further than I normally would be able to and send that lure further than I ever have. The external dial for the braking system is also a really convenient addition, and has a wide range of settings. For a long time the curado has been the industry standard, for 30-50 more dollars on average though. The Tatula is my new measuring stick, I have 3, reels 2 in the 100 size and will buy more in the future. Hands down price for money best reels on the market.

Comments: Casts far and smooth. I have only used for weightless Texas rigs so far, but am very happy.

From: Brandon: 9/16/23

Comments: Great compact palmable reels. I have several models ranging from tatula elites to the $179.99 tatula 150 and 200s, this model above (tatula 100) as well as an sv tw 70 and this reel sits right in between the elite and the base model 150s and 200s in my opinion. (I also have a sv tw 70 that I feel the tatula 100 sits right on par with in my books). The price point is perfect for the reel, it's a tad better quality and components than the normal tatula 150 and 200s but not quite as nice as the tatula elites. You can't go wrong with the no adjust braking system on these things too. I have 2 of these exact models and they handle anything from 3/4 jigs to 1/4 frogs with 65lbs braid just fine and are as smooth as can be with all line types and bait sizes ive tried so far. I have been a diehard shimano fan most of my life but in the laat 3 or so years I have been buying more and more tatulas and have truly fell in love with them (don't get me wrong I still have and use a ton of curados too). If you're on the fence about this reel being any better than the $179.99 version, in my opinion it's worth the exact $20 for the better breaking system as well as the size of the reel is more compact but still has plenty of line capacity.

From: Abaz88: Phx AZ 8/24/23

Comments: I purchased this for my 8 year old son who has never used a baitcaster. It took him two fishing trips to figure out how to cast without back lashing, but once he figured it out his casts are extremely precise and long. He absolutely loves it now. I use it as well when he doesn't go with me and I like the Tatula 100 better than my Tatula 150. The reason being, the smaller size feels better in my hand, while I get almost the same casting distance. The spool tensioner is factory set, but it still needs adjustment based on the bait you're throwing. In my opinion it's set a little too tight, so I backed it off about 1/4 turn and it's still backlash proof and allows me to throw lighter baits. The adjustable braking system and drag is great. I've very accustomed to the features since I already own the Tatula 150, it's basically a smaller package. I will probably purchase myself one in the future and I highly recommend this reel if anyone is considering this product.

From: Matt : CA 8/17/23

Comments: This is my 4th daiwa and I'm not disappointed it's a great workhorse reel would recommend it to anyone.

From: Reginald: LA 8/14/23

Comments: Awesome Reel, typical Daiwa product! Performance is superior, dependable and flawless. I have several other Daiwa Reels that I use for bass fishing and they all perform equally as well. Keep up the quality control, Daiwa.

From: Jim: GIDDINGS 8/13/23

Comments: Very versatile and durable reel. My second baitcaster ever owned and superior to my first(Lews LFS). Being new to baitcasters and proned to backlash, I was drawn in by the t wing system. 10/10 reel in my opinion. Will be purchasing the new version when released.

From: Brandon: 7/16/23

Comments: After a 20 year hiatus from fishing I decided that it was time to get back to it, and after much deliberating and researching I settled on this reel (100HSL), and combined it with a St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'1" Medium Heavy rod (MJC71MHF). It was my first (and only) casting rig and, given the nature of casting reels, I was determined to deal with backlashes and birds nests until I'd learned how to avoid all of that and properly use the reel. To my surprise, it really wasn't all that bad. The many reviews I'd read before purchasing this reel often mentioned that it's among the most forgiving and beginner friendly reels out there, and based on my experience I can genuinely say that this is absolutely the case. Sure, I've backlashed here and there, but I do believe that (besides operator error) most of this was caused by the cheap mono line I spooled it with for the sake of practice. Once I accepted that I need to adjust the spool tension and brake knobs from l ure to lure, and got the hang of feathering the line, I switched to 50lb Power Pro Spectra braid and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I've caught a bunch of nice Largemouth Bass with a variety of lures and this reel has been wonderful. It's a joy to use, and I am confident that it will last a very long time.

From: P: Texas 7/10/23

Comments: It's simply a Tatula. It performs and it is durable, so far they have given me flawless service. I highly recommend it.

From: Unknown: 6/29/23

Comments: I love this Diawa Tatula 100 Casting Reel. I have Casting Reels from other companies, and they don't even come close to the performance of this reel. It is so lightweight and comfortable in my hand.

From: Bruce: Cape Coral 1/10/23

Comments: I've had this reel for about 3 years now .. primarily bought for the wife, she's a new angler .. so of course one looks to buy a reel that won't back lash so easy, this reel is it .. it's set from the factory so one does not need to play with the spool tensioner .. dial in your side breaks only . **11 is a nice number for jerk baits this reel is a perfect mid level reel for those entering the sport.. it won't aggravate you so easy or as often . It's also silky smooth on the cast .. very well made .. super low maintenance.. one has to be way off settings to back lash it . You're actually getting more for this reels price point .. Daiwa is known for that .. their trickle down technology takes place fast .. side note to new anglers .. the Daiwa T-wing system as great as it is does not play well with braid to leader .. that knot will jam in the T-wing ( unless your knot is professionals tiny ) if buying this reel stick to a spool of floro or mono only. Highly recommend this reel .. your getting more than the price tags reflects. Low maintenance/ low backlash = win / win

From: Dean: Las Vegas 1/7/23

Comments: Love this reel. It's super lightweight and the casting so smooth. I've always been a shimano fan, but this might make me change my mind.

From: joe: san antonio 11/10/22

Comments: Exceptionally good reel. I have multiple Diawa Tatula reels now and have replaced all my Curados with them. This is the first 100 size reel I have bought but I have two Fuegos that are 100's and like the way they feel in my hand which is why I wanted a Tatula in this size. This is basically the Fuego with the t-wing system. I paired this Tatula 100 with a 6'6" Ethos rod from Academy and this is a durable and dependable setup that is comfortable enough to fish all day. I have the 150 on a Diawa Tatula rod but I really prefer this size paired on a lightweight rod like the Ethos.

From: Doug: Iowa 8/23/22

Comments: Reel is terrible. T-bar snaps my line off regularly. Cost me as much in baits as it costs. Diawa needs to go back to the drawing board. Is smooth feeling, they got that right. Tatula spinning reels are great, casting is trash. Buy a Lews or Shimano

From: Matthew: Ohio 7/19/22

Comments: Great reel really solid all the way around if your on the fence this is a great reel for beginners and the experienced fisherman when there's no wind I use less bearings on the twist knob on the side and if I'm casting into the wind the I have to crank that number up it's really been good to me I love it

From: Unknown: 7/1/22

Comments: I own several high end Shimano reels but this reel is my absolute favorite! I barely had to set it up and can cast it long distance in the wind with no backlash issues at all! When I add more reels to my collection they will be Daiwa reels! Highly recommend this reel!

From: Jenn: Gray, TN 5/14/22

Comments: I bought the Tatula 100HS in May of 2020. I liked the reel, it was light, smooth retrieve and I had long consistent casts. Now in the start of my 3rd season the braking system is gone and even when trying to feather my casts it's inoperable. At $150 I would expect a bit more life.

From: Tim: Boston 4/11/22

Comments: Excellent reel!! I made the change from Shimano to Daiwa & I couldn't be happier. The cast/retrieve for this reel is superior! Easy to use & light weight. Highly recommend this reel. I use this reel primarily for plastic worm fishing. I have 50 lb braid tied to a 15 lb fluorocarbon leader using a double uni knot. The only gripe I have about this reel is that the double uni knot gets jammed when reeling it through the t wing system. I'd grade this reel 4 out of 5 stars.

From: Freddy: California 3/14/22

Comments: The Daiwa Tatula line of reels are, in my opinion, the best reels for their price point. Also, the different gear ratios allow for individual techniques at every level of the water column.

From: John: Skiatook, OK 2/23/22

Comments: I am really pleased with this Casting reel, it gives me a chance to use a bait that comes into play only certain times of the year. It's smooth and well made, I can trust that it will do its job. Tackle Warehouse is my Go To store, I can feel comfortable ordering from them as they have great customer service. Very Very Pleased. Customer for life!! Thanks Tackle Warehouse

From: Jim: Unknown 2/17/22

Comments: For the money, it cannot be beat! Diawa as a whole cannot be beat. This thing casts smooth and has a slick look. Balances great with my Dobyn's rods.

From: Mike: Frankfort, IL 2/14/22

Comments: Have only used it for probably 5 hours of fishing time but it is a very nice reel. Smooth cast, fits in the hand easily and retrieve is also smooth. Great exterior brake with 20 settings, most reels don't have that many options for brake settings

From: Gabe: Unknown 1/6/22

Comments: Awesome. About sums it up. Great reel for the price. Best thing is, easy to buy from tackle warehouse and shipping is great. as we dont get these reels in NZ its awesome to be able to import something.

From: Clark: New Zealand 1/1/22

Comments: I was able to get two of these reels on the Black Friday deal and gave them to my 16 year old son for Christmas. We've had them out 4 or 5 time since Christmas and the seem to be great reels so far. I'm already saving up for a few more.

From: Jeff: Texas 12/30/21

Comments: I just got this reel, first impressions were wow!! First 3 words were sleek, smooth and sturdy. I have only had the opportunity to use it once and loved it!! this is my second Daiwa and am really impressed with the quality of their products!! I recommend this reel!!

From: Brian: West Jordan, UT 11/10/21

Comments: I've owned a bunch of high end reels from abu Garcia to shimano. This Tatulla is the easiest casting, backlash free reel I've ever used. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone especially a beginner trying to learn baitcasting reels. I wil definetly be buying more tatulas.

From: Shaun: Cumming, GA 10/23/21

Comments: Best reel I have ever owned. You will fall in love with this reel if you remember two things. 1.) When spooling line onto this reel, you need to be aware of the "T-Wing" line guide. If you start spooling line onto your reel when the line is in the top of the line guide, it will bunch up on the spool. You need to hold the line down into the narrow part of the line guide for it to go side to side correctly, and be level on the reel. The line lays down perfectly when you do that. The T-wing system is there to give you farther casting distance. And 2.) They say you shouldn't have to adjust this reel before using, but be smart and remember that every lure is different. ADJUST IT. Put line on the reel, tie your lure on, and adjust the tension and magnetic control how you want it, just like any reel. Smoothest, best casting reel I have ever owned.

From: Craig: Solon, IA 9/29/21

Comments: This reel is great!  Such smooth casting.  By far my best reel.

From: Unknown 7/21/21

Comments: Amazing little reel  a ton of technology for a $150 dollar reel. Smooth as glass and stays smooth after a lot of abuse. Daiwa is just awesome all the way around

From: Unknown 7/8/21

Comments: I really can't say enough bad things about this reel, I have owned two the first one had immediate problems when putting on line it would load almost all the line onto one side of the spool which took over an hour to fix then as soon as I tried casting it gave me some of the worst backlashes I have ever seen causing me to waste 20 dollars in high end fluro I proceeded to change the line to braid which did not solve any of the problem. I finally sent it back because I was sure it was defective upon receiving a new one that I have been using for some time now it now works but still gives me frequent backlashes and is very unforgiving. Not worth the price and definitely does not live up to the marketing.

From: Unkown: 7/3/21

Comments: Love them for most things. Have many the only negative would be if you use union knots.

From: Unknown: 5/27/21

Comments: Best reels for the money I've ever owned.  I've got 15 of these now.  Pop the brake cover off when you need to put on new line, then drop some reel oil into the opening where the spool shaft inserts back in.  Stays smooth as silk.

From: Clint: Texas 5/26/21

Comments: Honestly one of the nicest reels I own it's sexy and a smooth workhorse drag wise casting and retrieve ive purchased 2 so far and they havnt let me down grantid ive only had them for a few months now and I can't wait to get more at an affordable high end reel you really cant go wrong

From: Dylan: Greensburg 4/21/21

Comments: This reel is absolutely incredible. Bought this as my first baitcaster and it's very beginner friendly, as well as has the feel as a top of the line product! I've bought 3 more since! Buy with confidence!

From: Kyle: Minnesota 4/20/21

Comments: Amazing reel. Really great at throwing light lures such as small poppers and crank baits. Will definitely be buying another one.

From: John: 4/8/21

Comments: I bought this reel a month ago to throw small swim baits and ned rigs. At first, I had a hard time getting used to the small tension knob. However, once I came to the realization that I didn't have to use it and just had to adjust the braking, I was casting 1/8 Ned rigs further and easier. The reel is smooth and can handle big fish with ease. I use mine in saltwater and I've had zero issues. The size is perfect for my small hands making it ideal for longer fishing outings.

From: Alex: San Diego, CA 3/21/21

Comments: I got this reel for a flipping setup and the reel is solid smooth and comfortable. No failures or troubles yet. The only thing I don't like is the damn brake adjustment is so tiny and flat to the reel that its really hard to re-adjust when you change weight sizes. That being said it doesn't move one bit once set and you never notice the knob fishing its so smooth. Just my big banana fingers barely get an edge on it to adjust.

From: Unknown: 3/1/21

Comments: I grabbed this reel for a flip'n'punch setup so mostly only throw big braid on it. It's great in the hand and everything is well built and smooth after a year no troubles. My only person complaint is the brake adjustment is super small and tight (probably cuz it's the 100) so my banana fingers have trouble adjusting it when switching weight but once it's set no biggy. FYI I hear many say the Twing sucks for connection knots even tho the opening is crazy big lol... but again I throw braid on mine.

From: Unknown: 3/1/21

Comments: Liked the first Tatula I bought so much I bought a second tatula a couple weeks later. Not to heavy and casts smooth. No backlashes as of yet. Would recommend this reel to any level of angler. It is also at a pretty affordable price.

From: Brian: California 2/17/21

Comments: I have been using Tatula reels for the past 5 yrs. I believe the cost to value is exceptional. The performance of the reel at this price point is unmatched.

From: Unknown: 1/20/21

Comments: I currently have 7 of the Tatula 100s. I do everything between chunk n wind, to skipping with these reels, and they always exceed my expectations. Tough, reliable, and always on the deck of my boat! 2 years and counting on all of them, and they are still as smooth as the day I got them.

From: Unknown: 1/3/21

Comments: Awesome reel. Very smooth and dependable.

From: Wayne: Cape Coral, FL 1/1/21

Comments: I have 7 Tatulas and I love them! Going to buy more.  When I'm on the water with these, I have no worries! Hardly ever have a backlash and when I do, it's my fault.  Reels are absolutely perfect!!  The smaller and lighter profile let me feel the rod and lure instead of the weight of the reel.

From: Dave: Milton, PA 12/6/20

Comments: Recently purchased this reel in LH retrieve. Pleased with almost all aspects except one ergonomic issue. The spool tension knob is extremely difficult to access effectively. The star drag blocks my fingers. If you have large fingers or fish in gloves it could be an issue. Other than that one major issue this is a nice reel.

From: Zack: Alabama 12/6/20

Comments: Used inshore saltwater with monthly maintenance. Very smooth have the "K" reels quantum HD'S, Tour s3's, Lew's (garbage/overpriced/great customer service though) okuma helious etc... I will slowly convert to these. Throws 1/16th oz. Jig heads with a paddle tail much better than the others. Mag force is a no-brainer best cast control on the market very user/wind friendly. As always tackle warehouse is the deal...

From: Michael: Ormond Beach, FL 11/14/20

Comments: The Tatula 100HS has performed well for me. It's in the top for casting light line and light lures. I've found Tatula reels to be a very dependable reel at a great price.

From: Curtis: Louisiana 10/25/20

Comments: Virtually perfect at this price point. Excellent performance and consistent casts; braking is excellent and Zero adjust spool tension is a bit gimmicky (IMO) I adjusted all of mine to my liking.

From: Steve: Ontario, Canada 8/9/20

Comments: I love this reel, smooth quiet and casts 3/8 plus lures well I wanted to have the option of a lighter spool for light lines and lighter lures so I ordered a spool from AliExpress. That was 4 months ago. They took my money and sent nothing. As to communicating the problem to AliExpress, forget it. Just try to get in touch with them. Never again will I deal with them. Makes you appreciate TW even more

From: Rod: Clovis, CA 6/17/20

Comments: I have had two Tatula 100 reels for over a year so this review is based on my experiences over the last 12 months. Absolutely outstanding reels for the price. First off they feel extremely solid. The frame and mechanical components are sturdy and don't feel like they are going to break anytime soon. I have a 100HS I use for crankbaits and spinnerbaits and it works great for both. I am able to cast a 1/2 oz crankbait INTO 20+ mph wind and I don't need to worry about backlash if I barely thumb the spool. Once I got to know the reels I've had backlash less than 5 times and every single time it was entirely my error. The 100XS anniversary reel is beautiful. I love the details and laser engraving. I can pitch and flip light lures without fear of backlash when I have the mag brakes set right. I also use it for my topwater reel and it keeps up with my Rod movements while throwing spooks or frogs with ease. My only negative point given to the reels are the paint shows wear very easily. After a month of using it looks fairly worn. All in all amazing reels for the price and I will continue to ONLY use Daiwa reels.

From: Mike: Nebraska 1/25/20

Comments: This reel works and feels great WHEN its working. I have had it for 2 full seasons and by the end of both seasons the anti-reverse was slipping badly and it needed bearing after this year. The manufacturer service is affordable but both times i have had issues with them. This time, over a month after paying for the service I was told "lost in the mail by Fedex" when I inquired about the repair status. They are sending me a new reel at only the cost of the original service fee but I will not be buying any more Daiwa reels. For the price, I have found there are better buys out there from other companies.

From: Bryan: New Kent, VA 1/23/20

Comments: I bought this reel in March of 2019. its now September 2019 and this thing was awesome in the beginning. But now my gears grind really bad. I live in Indiana so no salt on this reel. Im going to send it in for warranty. but it sucks that this reel wore down so fast. i have a cheapo walmart reel i got 3 years ago that is way smother than this reel is now. also I did tear down this reel and cleaned it with no results.

From:Brett: Indiana 9/12/19

Comments:Like many, I've been running a few of the CT series of Tatulas on the recommendation of the crew in retail at TW. I just got one of these new 100's and I thought the CT's were impressive for their price point...this 100HX is MORE amazing. It's smaller but doesn't lack in the capacity department. I have it mated to a new Dobyn's Sierra series 703C and it is an absolutely incredible pairing and makes uber easy work out of long distance, pinpoint accurate pitchin' of weightless or neko rigged 5" Senkos. This has quickly become the combo I can't wait to pick up use out of all those on the deck. Currently, it's spooled with 20# PowerPro and 8# Fluoro leader and I can't seem to birdnest it! Bonus! I just bought a second one I like it so much!

From:Tim: Central Coast, CA 8/20/19

Comments: Previously using the CT reels, I got one of these reels for Christmas and I am absolutely in love with it. I also own the 150 version of this line of Tatulas. I use it for skipping/ flipping jigs and I have definitely shown no mercy to this reel. I cast further with less effort from the T-Wing. In my opinion Diawa is at the top of the reel game.

From: Jast: Lugoff, SC 3/11/19

Comments: This is a great reel. I own Tatula CT's and SV's and now this newer smaller version. It casts every bit as well as the SV, great distance and more refined than the basic CT. I prefer the finish on the SV reels best of all, but that does nothing for casting performance. This little reel is easy to set up, as all Daiwa reels are. While it is slightly more compact than CT/SV over all it is not a wow factor. I would rank it exactly where the price falls - between a CT and SV. You can not go wrong with any of the Tatula line of reels :)

From: Jeremy: 10/19/18

Comments: I am new to fishing and a sales person from a store led me to a lews combo as my first combo and I loved it. Think I spent maybe 120 bucks. I prefis this because this same salesperson when I went back to upgrade cuz now I am all in! I asked for his opinion on a combo under 300 and his answer was dobyns fury and a tatula CT. The main reason I took his word is due to the fact that his store did not sell this reel. Any salesperson that sends you to a competitor because they believe in a product you might want to take there advice. He told me that once I use this reel I would understand how even though lews is quality this reel is just night and day different. He could not have been more correct so I will tell you the same. Once you use it you will understand! Out of the box no configuring anything put on a weightless fluke and chunked it as hard as possible and holy crap!! No backlash and it went a mile. So if you have never tried a daiwa dear God buy this one! Especially if you can afford it and are new to fishing because you spend a lot less time untangling birds nests and alot more time slaying bass. Side note I chose the 100 over the CT because it just felt better in my hand and because they said they can't keep them on the shelves.
