Overview

Delivering unparalleled quality and performance, the Gamakatsu Underspin Head is a heavy-duty underspin ideal for winching magnum-sized bucketmouths out of heavy cover. Built around a premium Gamakatsu Heavy Cover 60-degree hook that delivers superior hook penetration, the Gamakatsu Underspin Head allows anglers to apply maximum pressure with braided line or heavy fluorocarbon without fear of bending the hook out like lighter wire underspins. It also features a streamlined head design that glides through cover and a small chrome willow leaf blade attached by a ball-bearing swivel, which produces the perfect amount of flash and vibration to trigger aggressive reaction strikes.

To hold your trailers in place, the Gamakatsu Underspin Head is equipped with a spring lock keeper system that holds your swimbaits on the jighead with glue-like force so that you save money by catching more fish per bait. Complete with a set of attention-grabbing 3D eyes, the Gamakatsu Underspin Head is the underspin you need for targeting bigger fish and using heavier tackle.

Comments: I have several of these, especially in the mini version, the price is actually very good for what you get, because this is one of the best underspins on the market, "IF" you only need a GIANT 4/0? hook, but try more like 5/0 or 6/0 hook imo! Which brings me to the biggest negative about this underspin, is the HOOK SIZE, it only comes in one size fits all. Skip the 1/4oz and 3/16oz heads, they look super tiny on the giant hook they claim is 4/0. The head doesn't match the Hook, so it makes it difficult to find a bait to work with them. I would purchase only the larger sizes, and stick to the Gamakatsu Mini Underspin for everything 3/8oz and under. The 1/2oz head will need at least a 5.8" Keitech.

Comments: I bought this underspin specifically for the Storm Largo Shad. I've caught a lot of fish throwing this around shad schools and the blade really provides the shine an vibration to separate this lure from any other live shad the bass may be chasing. Burning the bait through a shad school and killing it is where I get most of my bites. The blade and tail of the Largo Shad slowly move as it falls before you begin the retrieve again. This underspin also has the screwlock which in my opinion is the way to go fishing a swimbait lure. No super glue needed and the lure stays on tight after many fish. The swimbait will probably wear out before it comes off the screwlock. I'm sure it works well with many types of swimbaits.

Comments: I started having phenomenal success with underspins back in 2005 after watching Aaron Martens 2nd place finish in Bassmaster Classic. Started catching bass off bridges like he did then expanded to the suspended population we now see so much of on Livescope. Had a lock on tournaments on local lakes for a decade before Livescope showed them to everyone. This Gamakatsu version has the best of everything incorporated into the design!! Great balance, great hook and blade plus top grade swivel. The spring that holds plastics to head is best idea I've found. Makes plastics last longer than anything I've seen!! Well done!!

Comments: Do we need another stellar review by me, one more smuck? No. I can't help myself. I love Gammy underspins and no one else. Gammy hook, wide gap. Come one. Gammy makes more EWG swimbait jighead models. Make a not screw lock with a good keeper, multiple colors, head weights, hook sizes......all wide gap like this one of course. I guarantee smallie landing percentages are higher with these than any other hook on the market. Just make tons of different hooks to sell to us dummies. Bass fishermen don't fall for reel and rod models that are almost the same as other models, but we do fall for baits that are slightly different, and advantageous for specific situations.

Comments: I never had success with spinnerbaits, so I decided to go with an underspin to see if it would be any better. It truly was! Easy to rig the swimbait once you get to the screw lock, then it just takes some finesse to make sure your bait is on it properly. This piece of terminal tackle runs true in the water and the blade doesn't impede the action of the swimbait. Definitely my go to bladed technique for fishing. Great quality detail and hook.

From: Albert: San Antonio, TX 12/23/22

Comments: Absolutely the best underpin on the market. And I've tried them all. Runs true at all speeds. Super sticky hook, unreal performance.

From: Mike: Missouri 12/8/22

Comments: This has become my favorite underspin. It takes a minute to figure out how to rig a swimbait with the screw lock but it is SOOO worth it. Your swimbaits will last what seems like forever, even with pulling them through grass.

From: Jason: Long Beach, CA 11/16/22

Comments: I've used these Gamakatsu underpins and I've found them to be superior to all the others I've tried, and quality is important to me, especially at the way prices continue to rise. TW has absolutely improved with shipping and I appreciate that also when making my decision of where to buy.

From: Will: Raleigh, North Carolina 11/16/22

Comments: Great under spin. Use them with a Largo Shad or Keitech with great results. Would like to see Gamakatsu come out with a gold blade!

From: Jerry: McDonough, GA 11/2/22

Comments: Solid well designed underspin head. Probably my favorite, most reliable, and most successful of all my many underspins. You can run Keitech swing AND fat swings on this. There's just enough space to keep the blade off the soft plastics. 3.8 and 4.3 Keitechs are in perfect balance with this head in 3/16 and 1/4 can go even a little bigger, and the screw on bait keeper definitely helps baits stay on, especially with something soft like the Keitechs. I have had success with this and also with the 1/8 #1 mini finesse version paired with smaller Keitechs. You can fish a multitude of speeds and depths while you straight retrieve or drag, twitch and bump this head, and all the while the blade keeps working. My catch rate went way up as soon as I started using these to look for LMB on ledges in these east/central Texas reservoirs. This is currently my favorite thing to throw. Casts great, runs true and it's a very hassle free, versatile and effective way to fish from both kayak and the bank.

Comments: Love the design well built very lifelike catches fish!

From: Rick: Wyo 4/11/22

Comments: Great underspin, I like the profile and design, definitely catches fish

From: Curt: Elk Grove, CA 3/3/22

Comments: top quality like all the Gamakatsu products! the first underspin I reach for when fishing ledges or drop-offs!

From: Brad: Washington 2/24/22

Comments: Another super sharp hook by Gamakatsu! The underspin glides true and have had very little tuning issues with it.

From: Bradley: Brooks, GA 1/4/22

Comments: Only underspin head I will throw! Runs true and has a stout hook. Everyone one knows gamakatsu hooks are phenomenal. I've only thrown 3/16-1/4 oz. heads. These heads match perfect to a 3.8-4.3 keitech. If I only could have one underspin head this would be the one.

From: Eli: Indiana 12/14/21

Comments: Overall lure size is perfect. semi-compact. Ready for lake Amistad TX.

From: Unknown: 12/12/21

Comments: All the right stuff..! This particular Underspin provides the quality Gamakatsu is known for. Properly sized hook and hook gauge, detailed swim head, and the screw-on plastics keeper that saves you money over the typical barb type by holding your plastic bait securely.

From: Dckemper: Leander, TX 10/4/21

Comments: This is the ultimate underspin jig head, the hook is strong, sharp, has a nice fish pinning bend to it, and the screw lock does an incredible job of keeping your trailer, a keitech in my case, in place. This jighead runs true, stays at the right height in the water column, and the blade doesn't get stuck on the hook ever which is a nice bonus. The plain color isn't much of a problem either because it's a rather neutral grey tone, and I often fish with Shad or bluegill colored trailers anyways.

From: Morgan: Unknown 9/13/21

Comments: I used the Gamakatsu Underspin Head while fishing with Anglers Inn at Lake El Salto in Mexico and really like this jig head.  The small 3/16 oz head was used early mornings while the bass were shallow and the 1/2 oz head was used from mid morning on for the deeper waters.  I really like the spring lock keeper that keeps the swimbait heads attached without having to keep up with an extra bottle of super glue to keep baits on like is required for other underspins, These Gamaketsu underspin heads and sharp Gamakatsu hooks really caught a lot of good sized Mexican bass. I keep all sizes of these underspins quickly accessible in the Gamakatsu G-box 3600 split foam case

From: Bobby: Arlingotn, TX 7/22/21

Comments: I buy these because they always swim true, and Gamakatsu is one of the sticky'est hook around.

From: David: Winterville 6/3/21

Comments: I purchased two Gamakatsu underspins for a week long fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida near Perry. I used several different lures but had my best success with these underspins with Z-man jerk shad  and Gulp shrimp.

From: Bud: Dunnellon, FL 5/21/21

Comments: I really like the 3/16 oz Gamakatsu underspin rigged with the 4.75" rig rage swimmer for early morning shallow water bass.  The keeper allows me to catch multiple bass on a trailer bait without having to use glue to hold it in place. Later in the day I switch to the 3/8 oz or 1/4 oz underspin when I need to fish deeper.  The 3/16 oz underspin is great to use on schooling bass so I usually have one rod ready with this underspin and rage swimmer swim bait.  I usually have 4 or 5 of these underspins for my trips to Lake El Salto Mexico.

From: Bobby: Arlington, TX 5/3/21

Comments: So far it seems to work fine. Holds a little swimbait well and sticks the fish solidly.

From: Doug: Unknown 2/26/21

Comments: The underspin blade is that extra little touch to a soft paddle tail that gets the bass biting. Caught a lot of bass with this setup...

From: Chris: Richboro, PA 2/8/21

Comments: These definitely keep the swim bait on longer. But I agree with another comment about losing a blade. The split ring needs upgrading.

From: JD: 1/9/21

Comments: Great bait, all swim baits work good with this.

From: Mark D: Early, TX 1/9/21

Comments: Great product! Runs true. Great for bigger profile soft swimbaits. These are not a finesse underspin!

From:
Derek 12/4/20

Comments: I have been using these for about 5 months now and am pleased so far. I have caught lots of bass and striper on them. But I have lost a blade on one of them. I think the split ring needs to be upgraded. Other than that one they work better than any I have tried
