Overview

Lowrance’s first foray into the trolling motor space, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor has been engineered from the ground up to achieve a reliable, incredibly quiet design that pushes the boundaries of performance. Manufactured entirely in house to achieve the level of quality that Lowrance demands, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor is built with an industry-first, brushless construction that boosts power, amplifies dependability, and creates whisper-quiet operation that lives up to its name.

Unlike old-school brushed motors, the cutting-edge Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor’s brushless design eliminates unnecessary energy loss, extends running time, and weighs 6lbs less than comparative models. Developed through extensive laboratory analysis and put through its paces by the hardest fishing professionals, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor has been engineered to withstand everything from repetitive use to temperature cycling and extreme vibration. And because there are no brushes to wear out and overheat, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor offers an increased dependability that is backed by a 3-year warranty.

Seamlessly integrating with Lowrance’s industry leading sonar technologies, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor comes standard with an HDI transducer and leaves the door open to upgrades with an innovative, interchangeable nose cone. Allowing anglers to configure their sonar system to accommodate Active Imaging 3-in-1 with CHIRP, SideScan, and Down DownScan Imaging, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor’s integrated, plug-and-play system makes it easy to choose the right sonar, while eliminating any interference. When paired with NMEA 2000 networking, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor integrates with HDS Live, Carbon, and Ti2 units for convenient control from your sonar screen.

Designed with advanced fly-by-wire steering, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor offers the instant, smooth control of a cable-steer motor, without the mechanical cables that wear out over time. Quiet and fun to drive, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor leverages Lowrance’s heritage in developing world class Simard Autopilot performance and six years of experience in controlling GPS enabled trolling motors to achieve an extremely accurate anchoring .

Challenging all aspects of conventional trolling motor design, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor features an auto-detect voltage system that works with both 24-volt and 36-volt systems. This innovative feature allows anglers to upgrade their boats power without having to purchase a new trolling motor.

Carefully scrutinized to achieve truly intuitive operation, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor’s foot pedal was developed to expedite proficiency. By carefully locating the anchor mode button, the Lowrance Ghost Motor eliminates accidental engagement, while a convenient Flip Switch permits ambipedal operation for left or right-footed anglers. Fitted with two configurable, quick access buttons, the foot pedal makes it easy to save waypoints, take screen shots, and control power poles with a quick tap of the toe.

Connected to the boat with Lowrance’s advanced 360-degree breakaway mount, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor takes the brunt of impacts and will automatically realign itself once clear of impacted structure. Designed with a composite shaft that is backed by a lifetime warranty, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor features an integrated stabilizer bar that reduces bouncing when stowed and on plane in rough water. To keep the cable bundle out of the way, an inventive clip is integrated along the side of the mount.

Lessening the strain of a long day of fishing, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor boasts a twisted stainless-steel pull cable and guide that reduces lifting weight and improves ergonomics. Fitted with dual assist gas springs, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor provides a lift off of the deck when deploying and softens the latching, so you wont’ spook fish. Eliminating the need to balance with one foot on the pedal while stowing, the Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor features auto alignment stowing that changes the position to lay flat on the mount.

Comments: I bought a 2022 Nitro Z18pro from Bass pro 2/28/2022. It came equipped with Lowrance electronics including the Ghost trolling motor. That device is the least dependable electronic or mechanical device I have ever bought unused. It quit working after about 50 hours use. It worked for about 5 more after being rebooted and then quit completely. The resetting didn't help so I had to haul the boat to the repair shop (about 50 miles away) where it sat for about 2 weeks getting fixed twice with the "final" fix requiring a new chip. This cost me several hundred out of my pocket including gas and several hours and lots of frustration. It worked fine the rest of last fishing season and for the first couple of months this one (I only fish one day a week for maybe 8 hours from April through October), then it stopped again. A complete reset got it working, for about 16 more hours when it quit again. After another complete reset it worked again, for an hour. After one more reset, it worked for the remainder of that day's fishing and the first hour today, total of about 5 hours. After another reset it worked for 2 more hours before it quit. I have requested either a new one if mine is having unusual problems or a refund or credit so I can get another brand. So far Lowrance has failed to do more than provide me a case number. At this point I would have to give this device the lowest possible rating and urge anyone considering one to consider anything else, including fishing from the bank.

Comments: Not overly impressed. its a nice enough trolling motor but the directional motor is not much quieter than my Minn Kota. There are some nice features but to use all the modes, you have to purchase a NMEA 2000 kit and hook up to your display. In the MinnKota, all the features like course and track are organic. The only feature organic to the Ghost is anchor (spot lock). The trolling motor itself is quiet but its hard to say how much more so than the MinnKota I had. Perhaps I will update the review after I purchase the NMEA kit and network to the HDS units. Its a nice trolling motor but very, very expensive. I was expecting more.

Comments: Great trolling motor. Quiet, smooth, all phases of operation top notch. However, there is one SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW. If you fish at NIGHT, the directional arrow is not bright, it is BLINDING. You can't see a thing out front if motor is on. LED's are so bright. I had to mask and paint mine red to make it functional. I would urge Lowrance to install green or red LED's instead. NOT white.

Comments: Been using the 47" for 13 months  and now got the 52" model for tournaments in rough water.  Been fishing tournaments for more than 45 years and can say this is the best motor on the market.  Zero interference on the graphs due to brushless motor.  Batteries last much longer and recharge faster since they don't get drawn down as far.  Easy to deploy and stow with cable that looks new even after a year of hard use.   Mine is smooth and quiet at all speeds and I love the integration with my graphs.  I can control the autopilot features from any and all my Lowrance units anywhere in the boat.  You can set it to stow with the prop in or out so you never worry where it is pointing when you go to stow it.  The foot pedal is simple to get used to, and no cables to break.  Love being done with noisey spinning heads while on anchor.  Very glad to have a Ghost!

Comments: Got the Ghost a while back. Had a Fortrex before. Have ran over many stumps, rocks, and so far has taken a heck of a beating. Runs really quiet, and the foot petal is similar to a cable drive but much easier and more responsive. Matches up with my lowrance graphs easily. Spot lock is precise and doesn't over compensate. My hat is off to Lowrance. First trolling motor they have made and is truly fantastic.

Comments: To be fair you need to know that I live in West Texas where wind speed 15-25mph are frequent, been using MotorGuide 36volt, 50" motors for over 20 years, got tired of waiting for the Pro Tour so I ordered a Ghost, not too impressed, motor is not "stand alone" friendly at all, placing the compass 2 feet from the motor is a challenge to avoid a tripping hazard, calibrating the compass is difficult since there is no visual indication, only audible, and not loud enough to hear when on the water, instructions to configure the pedal are poor at best, it's 2 tenths mph slower against the wind than what I had, at speeds above "5" on the dial the motor is very noisy, motor is not preconfigured for course or heading lock, the direction indicator arrow is "very herkie-jerkie", starboard steering in reverse is difficult to obtain and maintain a comfortable pedal angle while dead ahead, learning to drive this motor has a huge learning curve due to the absence of "mechanical feel" in the pedal, overall this is just a very expensive "OK' motor that takes a lot of getting "use to"

Comments: Almost silent in the water!! Spot lock is phenomenal, it does not run the whole time while locked, only when it needs to move. Hydraulic arms in the mount make deploy and stow effortless. Love the steel cable on the handle that comes factory. Pulls a heavy old ranger around a lot better than a fortrex and uses 1/3 of the Battery!!

From: Asa: Brodhead, KY 2/25/20

Comments: This thing is legit! I can run my motor about an extra 8 hours than any ultrex due to efficiency of brushless motor. Runs about 1 mph faster than my ultrex did. Super quiet.. 0 prop noise. 360 breakaway bounces off and takes stumps well. Anchor lock about the same as ultrex (which is solid). Really like the bracket, easy to stand on to sight fish. Integration with my HDS lives is a big plus too. Well worth the money.
