Overview

Redesigned with key updates and features, the Okuma Tournament Concept TCS “a” Casting Rods have been rebuilt from the ground up from the original TCS series and will fit nicely into every bass angler’s arsenal. Specifically designed for technique specific bass applications, the Okuma Tournament Concept TCS “a” Casting Rods feature a 30-ton carbon blank construction that is ultra lightweight and super durable to handle the rigors or aggressive tournament angling. They also feature a carbon fiber overwrap on the lower section of the rod, which provides added strength when the rod is under load for battling large check-cashing sized bass.

Another key upgrade for the Okuma Tournament Concept TCS “a” Casting Rods are the Fuji K-Concept guide frames and Fuji Faz-light guide inserts that reduce wind knots, increase sensitivity, and offer increased durability for braided lines. A new C-40X carbon fiber skeleton reel seat and a screw down foregrip also allows the reel to sit in your hand more naturally and eliminate contact with seat threads for all day casting comfort. Finished with a contoured EVA/compressed cork split grip, the Okuma Tournament Concept TCS “a” Casting Rods are the ultimate series of rods for avid tournament anglers.

Comments: Had the original Scott Martin 7111H and absolutely my favorite rod I own. Great balance, weight, taper and couldn't believe the power for such a light rod. Loved the added eyelet as well. Recently broke it and purchased the new TCS rod. And its not even close to the original. Heavier, not the same balance and feel. Sensitivity not even close to the OG and much different taper and removed additional guide near rod seat.

Comments: I have had original Scott Martin rod 7'11 and it was truly the best chatter bait rod on the market in this price range. went the whole day catching around 15 fish not losing one of them!

Comments:I have used and still use the original Scott Martin TCS rods. The guides are the only substantial improvement with these rods in my opinion. The action and performance of the blanks are still great. The extra foam under the reel seat is not needed and I feel is unnecessary. I had no problems with threads or obstructions under the old reel seat in the first place, why add something that's not needed. If I could cut it off I would. Also I feel that the foam under the reel seat kills some of the sensitivity. The extra carbon plastic that wraps around the top of the handle took some getting used to and I think it's overkill. The longer versions over 7 feet are heavier than the original models due to the beefed up grip. I'm not disappointed with these rods because I love the actions and brute strength of the blanks so I will continue to buy them. I just feel they should have kept the simple handle design and they would have been perfect.

Comments: So I had the original Scott Martin version and when I had a kayaking incident that ended up breaking my rod, I went to get a replacement through my warranty with Okuma. This new model was the one that I received back. I was slightly disappointed at first, it doesn't look as good in my opinion and I don't like the extra foam under the reel, but I have to say it is just as good performance wise as the original. I think that if they removed the extra EVA from the reel seat then you'd have one of the best rods in the price range. I have the 7'3 Heavy and it's a great all around heavy rod, use it for frogging, swimbaits, jigs (sensitivity is pretty good), and heavy topwaters. I can't speak for other models, but the 7'3 Heavy is a fantastic rod for the price and very versatile.
