7'1" HXFThis rod is one of the coolest looking rods out there if you're into a nice looking rod, but on top of that the 7'1" HXF rod has an amazing action for jig fishing. I use it for both 3/8 and 1/2 jigs and it gets a ton of use. Very sensitive, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it can be a bit tip heavy if you don't find a little heavier reel to pair it with.

Previous Feedback

Comments: 1 year review. I had the 7'8 H. It can literally throw down to 1/4 and pass 2 oz. It's crazy how it's even possible but it is. It does struggle on the 1/4 but it can throw it. I've thrown a-rigs, swim jigs, jigs, smaller glides, jerkbaits, and1/4 crankbaits and it does it all. Of course it's not the best with treble cause of extra fast action. Definitely a junk rod when u just wanna take one rod n go. I got it paired with a metanium to so thats probably why it's able to handle the low 1/4 oz.

From: Peter: Ca 10/3/23

Comments: Phenix M1 7'2 MH paired with 20 Metanium is super light . and balanced. The rod is a work of art with good components. Fishes 4 and 5 inch flukes perfectly with ultra long cast. This is my second Phenix, own a 7'1 feather which is fantastically light with great fit and finish. My next Phenix is the K2 Torzite

From: Tony: Southern California 6/25/23

Comments: Best rods I've EVER used for topwater frogging. I own two Phenix M1 Casting rods. 7'8" H XFast and 7'2" H XFast. whether its been fishing thick pad fields, dense hydrilla, fallen trees covered in scum these rods have handled it all and then some. bullying 8 - 13+lb Northern Snakeheads out of it all with no issues. extremely light weight and comfortable I couldn't ask for a better rod for the job.

From: Richard: Maryland 6/4/23

Comments: Bought the 7'2 med hvy M1 & have been out 3 tines since & it's been fished on 1 of those days only during a small/finesse 3/8ths swim jig was the only lure getting bit! Maybe a solid hour or 2 max of use, yet it's already peeling on the blank itself! 1st I thought maybe it was a protective wrapper like the cork has on it, but as far as I can tell, theirs no wrapper on the blank itself! & even if it was a wrapper, It's literally chipping away in between the first 3 guides! Looks like some clear coat or end process they do but it's NOT holding up well! Hope their warranty is as good as their rods are ! I will say I own countless phenix rods & haven't ever had 1 single issue! 3 feathers, 3 m1's & thankfully got a great deal on 2 new k2s (yes. Their beyond worth it! Lightest rod I've held to date I think.. but knew it was amazing when i Had a smile on face while I Sold my matching action/taper loomis & destroyer p5's to a local guy)

From: Derekk: Illinois 4/7/23

Comments: This is my 1 year review on this rod.  7'2 mh fast. Over the past year, this rod has become my number 1. I'll admit, it is a softer mh fast. It's not gonna be the type of rod you fish in thicker cover etc. But its so light and sensitive. I can throw thousands of casts during an 8 hour tourney and not be sore. I love it for those tough tourneys with no real pattern where you know its gonna be one of those deals where whomever throws the most casts and covers the longest stretches is prolly gonna win. I use it for throwing lighter swimjigs (not thick cover swimjigs), soft plastic swimbaits  regular t-rigs, etc. It can even throw jerkbaits and the such. Its soft enough you can really lean into those hooksets.  I throw swimjigs as one of my confidence baits, googan swimjigs are perfect on this. Thinner hook and guard  but i still fish it through milfoil and coontail and pop the swim jig off the grass as it gets caught. I love this rod! Its really sensitive it is probably more of a medium + than a med hvy  but i like a longer, softer rod. It reminds me of a shimano mh poison adrena softer mh. I use it with a daiwa sv tw reel, and its my number 1 over halo ksii elite mh, st croix legend x, the new veritas, and cashion

From: Dave: Kentucky 7/18/21

Comments: The jury is still out for me on the 7'2" MH Fast.  The rod is very well built, lightweight, and frankly really pretty.  It casts different lure weights very well. I bought it to be my TX rig and Jig rod, but put it through its paces in Northern MN throwing a little bit of everything.  It performed well pitching a TX rig for largies and was sensitive enough to feel subtle taps from Rock Bass trying to bite above their weight class. It also handled a good sized Northern Pike without missing a beat. Where I struggle with it was dragging through weedy soft bottom, the rod felt spongy when dragging a bait through grassy mucky, soft bottom areas.  More to come as I keep working with it.

From: Dusty: Iowa 7/12/21

Comments: Nice feeling rod. Super light compared to all the other rods I have. I like how the butt doesnt have any kind of grip or cap so in colder weather it doesnt drag on my jacket or coat. Ive caught some big fish with it as well. I would recommend.

Comments: I have the 7'8" MEdHvy and 7'2" Med Lt casting. 7'2" Med and 7'8" Med Spinning. Love the spinning rod balance action and weight. Love them. I enjoy picking them up as much as my Dobyns Champion and Champion Extremes. Just 2 lengths and actions that I can do everything with. Both spinning rods had the 2nd eye fall off after use from May April 2020 -April/May 2021. I tie improved Albertos, so maybe my knots are causing this, but I've been using Dobyns and Daiwa for the last 15 years without an issue. Amazing balance and comfort for the price point and excellent customer service at Phenix. I wish they used different guides with better wrapping. I'm guessing that how they keep these things around $200 when they initially perform like a $300-$400 rod.

From: Dan: Illinois 5/31/21

Comments: I have 4 of these rods: 7'2"H (XF), 7'2"MH (F), and two of the 6'9"ML (F). These rods make fishing all day enjoyable. They are light, sensitive, comfortable, and straight up beautiful. Phenix knocked it out of the park with this lineup. I use the 7'2"H (XF) for jigs 3/8oz and over, it's perfect. I can feel everything going on down there. The 7'2"MH (F) can handle anything. I use it mostly for Chatterbaits, but also for non-finesse Texas rigs and swimbaits. Now on to my favorite, the 6'9" ML (F). I loved this one so much I picked up another and have two. I know it's a ML, but this rod (to me) fishes closer to a medium than a light. I use one for small light wire finesse jigs and ned rigs. I use the other one for mini Chatterbaits, small jerkbaits, soft plastics, and finesse swimbaits. The ONLY thing I did not like, is that the cork (while unbelievably comfortable) does need to be sealed. If not sealed, I don't see the cork lasting too long with heavy use. Get yourself some U40 cork sealer if you fish a lot.

Comments: Last summer I got a 7'2" M spinning rod.....liked it so much I went and got 2 of the baitcast version....a 7'2" M/H and H.    I  gotta say, as much as I love the spinning rod, I like the baitcast version even more....so light and sensitive....love the reel seat and the solid handle...very nice, you cannot use this rod without maintaining supreme blank contact.   five star rating for the new M1.....possibly the best bang for the buck you can get in a rod.

From: Dennis: 5/13/21

Comments: I wrote a review on the 17th of September and wanted to follow up. so I've had this rod for 5 or so months now and I still love it very much. I originally had it paired with a curado dc but my curado dc is on a expride now. I have my Diawa tatula SVTW on it (the new one for 2020) and its pairs nicely. One thing I have noticed so far is you tighten the reel down fully on the rod and the reel seat likes to loosen a little bit but nothing major to where the reel will fall off, just a little bit and its nothing you have to worrie about. Its not a problem to me but if you like your rods to be absolutely perfect, just keep this in mind but its just finaminal

From: Diego: Greenville, TX 2/10/21

Comments: I cannot put down the 7'2" MH. It is a real joy to use this rod, and the rod itself is beautiful. The finish glistens in the sun and shines in many colors (purples, blues, reds and gold). I have it paired with a Shimano Scorpion MGL and 30# J-braid and 18# flouro leader. Throwing anything T-rigged with tungsten from 3/16-1/2oz is effortless. Extremely sensitive, solid power, quality guides and reel seat. I have used it to fish in 30'+ of water and pitched shallow, it does both well! The price tag vs quality is very reasonable.

From: Ed: Boston, MA 12/15/20

Comments: I've had the 7'8" med/hvy for 3 months. This thing is fairly light and balances fairly well will with the 2020 tatula sv. Can't speak about sensitivity since I've only fished with around 30 mid to mid-high end rods in my 25 years of bass fishing. Not enough experience to speak of sensitivity. I originally purchased for 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz total weight t-rigs, grass jigs in mild cover, jika rigs, non-punching tokyo rig situations. I've lost a couple fish fishing in too heavy of cover for this rod. Listed as fast action. Rod is more of a moderate/moderate fast. This thing is more parabolic than I was looking for. I also lost a jig fish on too stout of a hook... shouldn't have been fishing that jig on this rod in the first place. I'm too lazy to return stuff, so spent some time finding a home for this rod. Here's where this thing has shined for me. Carolina rigs & spinnerbaits. Great length and loading for c-rigs. Fun bombing 3/8 - 1/2 oz spinnerbaits (no trailers) Handles fish well on a spinnerbait, but I'll stick to my shorter 7'2"/7'3" graphite & composite rods (like fishing both types of rods for different spinnerbait situations). I'm interested to try this rod for 3.8 keitechs on a jighead, flatsides, lipless, med/deep cranking. Have not tried any of those yet, but I think that's another area this rod can shine if you prefer longer/graphite rods for those applications. Honestly, it's staying with me, I don't like pigeon holing a rod for just one application, but it will be dedicated for c-rigging for now.

From: Unknown: 10/2/20

Comments: I bought this rod about a month ago and got the 7'2" med heavy and paired it with a curado dc and it is so nice! it is the perfect all round rod. I will throw anything on it and it gets the job done. if your looking for a perfect all round rod. this is it. the med heavy's are perfect. keep a rod sock over it when not using it because its a very light rod so take care of it! if you have the money to buy this, buy it.

From: Diego: Emory, TX 9/17/20

Comments: i bough the first gen 7-8 med hvy, great rod, felt a little soft for a med hvy but overallgreat rod, the hook hanger was a little annoying becasue it was on the handle, i broke the rod 4 inches down, i hooked a fish on an 8xd and it popped off at the boat and hit my rod at about 100 mph and broke it, 100% will be buying another i love this rod.

From: Austin: Clayton, GA 9/14/20

Comments: I bought the 7'2 H. I had the gen 1 version of this rod. Loved the rod but felt more like a MH. The gen 2 Heavy seems more true to ratings. I use this rod as my jig rod and it handles the task flawlessly. From skipping to pitching. 3/8 to 3/4 oz jig plus trailer. Probably the most sensitive rod in its price range. I wasn't sure how I would like the new lower section of the grip but it doesn't bother me and you can feel vibrations and bites when it's against your forearm

From: Jeff: Virginia 9/3/20

Comments: Just got done on a night run with my new M-1 7'2 med hvy, I missed out on the M-1 1st gen. I like many others were g loomis diehards. WOW, I was missing the boat on these rods! Now the NRX is still top dog for certain applications, that said, phoenix can't be beat for the price point and all the r&d they must have done! You owe it to yourself to get one! PERIOD!

From: Unknown: 8/22/20

Comments: This rod it amazing. It's my #1 rod now over my halos, st croixs, etc. i paired the 7'4 med hvy with a daiwa sv tw... i love it. I prefer a longer rod anyways, but this thing is light, you can feel everything, and paired with daiwas sv baking system, there isnt a better casting rod and reel combo. I normally use it as my standard texs rig rod, but i fished a kayak tourney a week ago and made it into a punching setup, and lemme tell you, it dragged some true beasts out of the thick milfoil no problems at all. I caught multiple 2-3 lbers in the thick grass with it. I also caught almost a 4lber in the grass on a weightless fluke on the updated 2020 phenix maxim med light spinning rod, and it too handled like a true champ. They just make a darn fine rod.

From: Dave: Kentucky 7/19/20

Comments: Love the rod put Varmac X tube shrink tubing on the handle now it doesn't slip when the rod gets wet.

From: Unknown: 2/9/20

Comments: Reviewing the 7'8 MH. The 12 guides are really nice, reminds me of my GLX. The rod itself is a very good looking rod, definitely an upgrade over their previous model. I paired mine up with a Lews Pro Ti (purple on purple). Now onto the rod itself. I was a little worried a 7'8 MH would have a bit more parabolic bend then I was looking for, but no, it's perfect. I was turned onto phenix rods a few years ago, have two feather rods, I was seriously surprised at the sensitivity these rods have at a mid $$ price range. The M1 is just as sensitive as some of the higher end rods, you honestly don't have to spend $400 on a rod for sensitivity. This M1 is so close to being just as good as my Gloomis GLX's at half the price. The length and taper of this rod at 7'8 definitely makes for some good long casts. Tot accuracy, but distance. These should be some popular selling rods for many reasons, hard to believe these are made in China, but they definitely made some nice rods here. Highly recommend the 7'8 MH, not a very popular length so add this one to your arsenal. ***UPDATE: I should have, but forgot to add to my review, the cork on this rod is average at best. A shame really, this rod deserves a better marriage of cork. My advice is cork seal it ASAP with U-40 cork seal.

From: Dean: Las Vegas, NV 1/31/20

Comments: Many casting rods for this price are drab and lack any color. For this price Phenix rods gives the consumer a high price custom color scheme on this rod. The rod shimmers in the sun between blue and purple and speckles of red and white. For a custom quality rod it is very well made for being produced in China. I have not found anything wrong on my M1 MH 7,4' rod. Every guide has complete coverage of epoxy and none of them are cracked. The cork on the handles is high grade. The guides deflect any tangles and cast out line very smoothly. The reel seat has a reel guide insert on the tip of the trigger for stowing line, which is a nice touch. Casting is decent but the vortex butt end slips in my hand when it is cold. When the weather is warm it is such a comfortable rod to cast. Sensitivity is an 8 out of 10. The first bass I caught on this was with 25 mph wind gusts on Lake Amistad and I felt every thump that fish gave, set the hook and I approved. Buy this rod if you enjoy the cosmetic side, lightness, and sensitivity.
