Overview

Often imitated but never duplicated, the Rebel Pop-R is the standard by which all other top water poppers have been judged for over three decades. Slowly chug it along the water's surface or retrieve it quickly like a skittering shad, during certain times of year bass can't resist blowing up on the Rebel Pop-R. Available in a variety of sizes and colors to match your fishing situation, only the original Rebel Pop-R has the faith of America's top water master, Zell Rowland.

great butthis lure is great for catching huge amounts of little bass and even crappy in shallow waters during the summer, however iv had huge bluegill hjt this and not get hooked

Previous Feedback

Comments: It's an amazing lure all things considered, and I slightly prefer the Magnum Pop R. However, the medium size has a better finesse application. These lures will last your lifetime as long as you don't lose them, and they cast like a bullet. My favorite part is the concave mouth -- the shiny, metallic paint here reflects lots of light back towards you, even in total darkness, so you can almost always see where your lure is at all times. My one complaint is the hooks - I'd recommend changing them. You don't have to immediately change the hooks, but after a few fish you probably should. The price is amazing and these are worth every penny. The black/silver and foxy shad are my favorite colors.

From: Mike : Hendersonville, NC 8/7/23

Comments: Great popper and in my experiences better than the yellow magic. The top water that got me into fishing. And they hold up forever.

From: Chase: 5/1/21

Comments: The Rebel Pop R in the 1/4 ounce size has been a bass-catching machine for me over the years. The hooks are not the greatest. Some do really well. Others are really dull right out of the pack. So I keep a large supply of #6 Owner feathered treble hooks handy. The body of the 1/4 ounce Pop R has the perfectly shaped concave mouth that allows the bait to spit if your rod tip is pointed at the bait when you pop it. I don't care for the 'blooping' sound. I prefer more of a spitting action. I actually prefer Booyah Boss Pops in the 3-inch size. But I prefer Rebel in the 2 1/2 inch (1/4 ounce) size. I fish the 1/4 ounce Pop R on 8-pound test line and spinning tackle. This is fairly light line but I have landed bass over 6 pounds on it.

From: Ken: Tulsa, Oklahoma 12/13/20

Comments: Magnum Ole Bass POP-R is what I use when i throw topwater. That's the only one needed.

From: Jason: Bayou Sale, LA 5/29/20

Comments: The Magnum Pop-R will flat out catch fish. It is my go to popper for finesse top-water applications. Easy to work, either slow pops or a faster walking motion.

From: Unknown: Hazel Green, AL 11/4/19

Comments: Caught a 3 foot alligator on this popper, held up great with no chipping, cracks, or scratches. this is the Best popper you can buy. I would only use the mag size tho others are a little to small.

From: Trace: Georgia 6/29/19

Comments: I originally bought one of these because I wanted a popper without spending 10+ $ and it has not disappointed. Both bass and northern love this lure in Tennesee shad and i cannot get enough of it. Highly recommend to new fishermen and experienced ones combined.

From: Hugh: Minnesota 4/22/19

Comments: An absolutely fantastic bait. It can walk pretty much in place, can be as subtle or as violent as you need it, and gets bit FEROCIOUSLY. I'd recommend changing the hooks, but they'll be good for a few fish.

From: Zach: Washington 10/8/17

Comments: My favorite top water ever.  I've caught em when the water temp was only 57 and even then they demolish it. Caught my pb of 9 1/2 on a pop r and many many more big fish not to mention the giant blow ups. This bait will catch fish even when shakes heads and dropshots don't work I recommend this bait to anyone and give it five stars who want to catch fish.

From: Gman 2/23/17

Comments: Best bait out there. For some reason when I can't catch em on any thing else they eat this bait. Caught my pb of 9 1/2 on this and MANY other big fish on this bait. They eat this bait even when you catch em on a finesse gear. This is my go to when nothing else works because it catches em and the bites are fantastic

From: Flair: Nebraska 2/23/17lair: Nebraska 2/23/17

Comments: Gotta give this lure 5 stars, I was a young boy when my dad bought me my first lure and it happened to be a Rebel Pop-R. I still have the same exact lure in Bone color. The only thing that has been changed over the years are the hooks. I have to say this is by far my favorite top water bait of all time. I fish a ton of tournaments now including the Bassmaster Northern Opens & there is nothing that a smallmouth wants more of than a bone colored popper. They will crush it in almost any condition and all year round. For the price this lure is a steal!

From: John: NY 6/6/16

Comments: silver black color is the best fish em early in the morning & you'll get explosive strikes when you least expect them they are great

From: Frankie: Uvalde, TX 6/2/16

Comments: Best topwater bait bar none. I've lost count of the Largemouth Bass & Chain Pickerel I've caught on the magnum size in ole bass and silver/black colors in the creeks & rivers that feed the Albemarle sound here in northeastern NC. One tip, apply some clear nail polish to the red thread before use, otherwise it will unravel fairly quickly. It's 3/12/16 and I've caught over 70 bass on this lure in the last 4 days. If I could have but one bait to bass fish with for life this would be it!

From: Bill: Elizabeth City, NC 3/13/16

Comments: I really enjoy to fish with this top water bait. I Have used the same standard size in Silver-Blue for 3 years now and I have never had trouble catching fish with it. Bass seem to love it poped real slow and left it sit for a few seconds before popping it hard again. I actually caught two bass at once on it this weekend which was a first for me and man was it fun.

From: Mitch: Brownsburg, IN 6/8/15

Comments: buy this popper I cought my first popper bass with it 5 lbs! There's nothing like a top water blow up! Don't be fooled by the more pricey baits this one is affordable and better, trust me I got a bunch of different poppers that never produced.

From: Erb: Bakersfield, CA 4/16/15

Comments: Classic lure. Always throw this on early warm mornings or late evenings when the sun goes down. Overcast days there is nothing like throwing an old favorite. Definitely consider changing out the hooks because the ones they offer are small and bend easily. That would be the only downside to the lure but a great lure none the less. Caught plenty of largemouth, bronze backs, and even rock bass will hit these.

From: Pat: Worcester, MA 12/31/14

Comments: The pop r is a classic! Great popping action and walks with ease. Change out the hooks though. Bought a new one the other day and have only caught about 7 one pounders on it and the back hook has already opened up.

From: JC: USA 5/6/14

Comments: When I bought this lure in the foxy momma color and also another color that I did not see on here was the white belly with the lime green top. I went to my local ponds and tested them out and was very pleased with the action on these lures. My second cast out and bam got one and the bass just keep on coming towards the lure and taking it down with em. Very good quality and very good clear coat. Ive used a lot over the last summer and man am i sold on the these top water lures. You wanna catch bass you must have this lure in your tackle box.

From: Sonny: NY

Comments: These lures are great for post spawn, summer, and fall fish! cast it parallel to exposed weeds or cover and pop, pop, pause for 2 seconds theyll crush it. I had one from the 90's that had well over 500 fish caught on it but a toad took me into the weeds and it snapped off these are durable and quality!!

From: Anthony: Battle Creek, MI

Comments: Had a giant bass on with one of these. Took out drag and fought for a minute and came right off. My front treble double ring lock came undone and my treble popped right out in the fish's mouth. Piece of junk hooks. Bait works great though.

From: Tyler: Parkersburg, WV

Comments: This is a very effective popper that catches a variety of species, including largemouth bass. I replace the rear hook with a VMC X-Rap Tail Treble Hook and the middle hook, too, with a Gamakatsu Magic Eye Short Shank Round Bend Treble Hook. When replacing hooks, be careful not to upsize to the point where the lure rides too low in the water and impairs its action. Also, if you tie directly to the lure, add a split ring so the popper can swing around more readily on the pause.

From: Vince: Tucson, AZ

Comments: I've been fishing Rebel Pop-Rs for years and they are great lures, especially for the money.  Spits and pops great.  The hooks aren't the greatest, I usually replace them. I can't see spending $25 on a similar lure, this $5 model works just fine.

From: E: GA

Comments: The Ladyfish or Herrings love them

From: Carmela

Comments: Catches fish? Yup. Junk hooks? Yup. WIll it get out fished by cheaper costing baits? Yup.  See, the same applies for your more expensive japanese baits, Mr. Meatwad ;)  I buy my fair share of lucky crafts and Megabasses, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

From: David: Murrieta, CA

Comments: For us fisherman who cannot afford to buy a $20 popper, this is our bait. Its been a round so long, pops great, walks well too, and just plain works. I mean, c'mon, its a Rebel.

From: Scotty: VA

Comments: Who ever says junk hooks, well mine are sharp and last a few weeks. Also, they catch fish well. It comes down to the action you give it.

From: Joe: OH

Comments: Fantastic popper. Catches bass with the best of 'em, and only five bucks. Great deal.

From: Jeremy: Tampa, FL

Comments: Why Anyone would look any further and pay 10$ for one of these, I don't know. These are Great poppers! Extremely durable, and have awesome action. Dont ignore them because of the price. These are the real deal!

From: Cobi: MI

Comments: Love this popper! And so do the bass! I don't do a ton of topwarer but when I do I've got this tied on. A good pop pop and dying retrieve works really good. Get one they are only $5 and worth every cent.

From: Mat: Ohio

Comments: I love this topwater always catches me fish in summer and fall. Silver black gets the job done for me. Caught countless numbers of fish on all the sizes and a few other colors

From: MN

Comments: I just bought one of these the first day i used it i caught 10 fish. I love these poppers they are the best simply because they are very affordable. also if you take care of them they keep going and going.

From: Garrett: USA

Comments: I've always loved these topwaters, especially with all the new ones on the market, you can still afford these.  I usually change the hooks on them but the other day I had a factory split-ring break when swinging a fish.  I will definitely still use the Pop-R but I am letting everyone know to take care of them, they'll pay you back!

From: Luke: Lake Charles, LA

Comments: The ole bass popper works like magic in missourri on small farm ponds super durable i have caught probably 25 fish on one lure and it still works like new all i did was put new hooks on it i have 16 of these poppers 6 in the ole bass color

From: Austen: Cottonwood, AZ

Comments: Timeless. For a wonderful price of $5, you get a fish catching machine. The hooks on these are super sharp, get yourself one, or 2, or 3... A+ Color:  Ole' Bass and Silver black, Magnum size for magnum sized bass!!!! I like to work this lure with a pop, count to three, pop pop retrieve.

From: David: Murrieta

Comments:By far the best topwater popper for the money that you can buy. You can pay more but you won't get a better bait. The Pop R in the blue and chrome will catch bass when nothing else will. Don't break the bank get you a couple of these and go fishing.

From:William: Hohenwald, TN

Comments:These topwaters are really nice. They are very durable and they catch a lot of fish.

From:Bob: California, USA
