Overview

Designed by TacticalBassin's own Matt Allen and Tim Little, the River2Sea Tactical DD Crankbait brings a new approach to crankbait fishing. With a tight action, strong rattle, and impeccable color patterns, the Tactical DD Crankbait is designed for year-round performance. While a proven fish catcher in warmer waters, it continues to shine through the coldest temperatures when other baits fall to the wayside. True year-round crankbait performance has been attained with the Tactical DD Crankbait! With their attention to detail and combined fishing knowledge, Matt and Tim meticulously designed and tested every aspect of the Tactical DD Crankbait for big bass performance.

The River2Sea Tactical DD Crankbait features a unique head shape that maximizes surface area for maximum dive depth. Combined with a weight transfer system for long-range castability, the Tactical DD Crankbait plunges to the bottom, achieving far greater depths than any similarly sized crankbait. Each premium finish is designed to elicit a feed response in the biggest bass, while the baits aggressive hunting ability and fast rise, draw reaction strikes from the wariest of bass, even in difficult conditions. Finished with two sticky sharp River2Sea black nickel short shank treble hooks, the River2Sea Tactical DD Crankbait is a must-have for every anglers crankbait box.

Great crankbaitGreat crankbait, 1 out of 20 will not run straight no matter what you do.

Dd75While this bait has awesome colorways and gets them when the bait works properly it will get hung up on anything but straight bottom. Lost 4 baits one day, 2 the next all in rock and half of the baits run all over the place untrue without tweaking the line tie a dozen times and given the speed they’re supposed to be utilized at tuning is a pain. Probably one of the most overpriced cranks I’ve used. $10 crankbait at best. Does come with nice hardware however if purchased make sure you get at least 5 as you’ll probably get hung up. Snaggiest crankbait out there. At $20.00 a piece I got robbed.

Comments: First off: I think you'd be hard pressed to get this down to 18 feet. More like 15 feet, at absolute best. This thing gets bit for me (I'm in Ontario). I've caught some good sized smallmouth, smaller largemouth and some pike on it. I can't say it performs that much better than it's StrikeKing XD equivalents, though for northern waters you can't beat the colour selection of the TB cranks. However, they could use a perch pattern. I've had zero issues with baits sinking or not running true. Casts well. Overall I'd give it a 8.5/10, not accounting for the price (it's expensive).

Comments: When these first came out I bought 4 of them. 2 of them sink and take on water and another one no matter how much it's adjusted I cannot get it to run straight. I absolutely love the tactical videos and have learned a lot from them but these baits are just not that good or durable. There are better cranks in this price range.

From: Unknown: 8/3/23

Comments: This crank flat out gets em. I’ve seen the tactical bassin videos and tried my hand at deep cranking with some results (with other cranks) but not when I tie this one on. It lights up schools. I can’t afford all that active and live sonar crap and to be honest I like using my instinct and just plain old map contour lines. And this crank just finds em. Especially in the summer. Slow roll or speed cranking out doesn’t matter.

From: Manny: 7/24/22

Comments: I got suckered into buying. R2S trebles are way too heavy of a gauge for this technique. Swapped to fusion 19s and have a better land ratio. 150' cast yields about 15' depth (ffs) on 10lb. If you're spending $16 on a crank, buy the Duo. 1000000x better of a crank. Glad I only bought two. Will like pawn off on other fans of R2S products.

From: Joseph : California 11/18/22

Comments: I really like the northern special. But after an hour or so they sank like a stone! Don't understand stand way they broke so easily? There is no visible cracks, they sink and take on water. I like tactical videos. The durability of this lure is terrible....

From: Mike : Oh 10/25/22

Comments: I have had amazing success with this off shore deep cranking. Speed cranking and stop and go, both have worked on ledges for me. My only complaint would be hook rash. For the price you pay for these, they should be a bit more durable. One could argue that you get the same performance out of a 6XD which is half the cost. All the same, I have 4 and would get more. Tightlines.

From: Chris: Kansas City, MO 12/20/21

Comments: I do not understand the hype about this bait. I've purchased a few different colors and have yet to catch any numbers of fish. The depth range is also incorrect in my view even with multiple line sizes. The MB 300's and the Rapala DT's are better cold water cranks.

From: JW: South Carolina 12/2/21

Comments: Yesterday I took mine out to crank some smallies. We found a good spot loaded with giants. We speed cranked that area for hours and landed some amazing fish. We couldn't crank them faster than they were eating. One of the best times I've ever had on the water. Speed cranking for the win.

From: Austin: Lynnwood, WA 10/25/21

Comments: Yes, Matt is credited for designing a perfect prespawn crank.  I've caught many 5+ Lb fish in 37-55 degree water with it.  Fish it reel and stop, reel and stop.   This is also the best deeper diving crank for clear water as the translucent lure colors are perfect, and unavailable in a 6xd.  But you better also own a good lure-retrieving stick or you will cry at the cost of losing these expensive lures.  I got Frabil stick just for this lure.

From: Dave: Idaho 5/5/21

Comments: Just caught my PB Largemouth bass with this. When its windy, this works so well. Crank it against the wind and parallel to the shore. Well that was my technique.

From: JR: Santa Clara county, CA 3/8/21

Comments: Just got em in. Picked up 10 of them so I hope they work. Some of the colors are similar enough that you prob don't need to get every color. Would love to see one that is more white and a chart blue back. Hooks seem stout but sharpness not quite there and I will be and would recommend swapping out the hooks for something better. Excited to give em a go and see what happens. See if they live up to the hype...

From: Unknown: 2/22/21

Comments: Just went out today and did great caught 8 nice sized Striper and had 2 other hits 1 came off due to my fault. Great Winter time lure caught them trolling and casting!

From: Mason: Las Vegas, NV 1/16/21

Comments: My lake hardly has any Bass in it. Honestly I don't even know why I keep trying for bass. I tied on one of these in the craw pattern when the water temps dropped, rowed out to about 10 feet of water, and on my first cast I got  4 pounder. I near had a heart attack. Needless to say I'm a fan.

From: Chuck: West Milford 1/14/21

Comments: This is my CB of choice when the water temp is below 55. Burn/stop with a Lews TP LFS 8:1 on the Spiralite 7'6" Med/Mod Defiant is my lights out combination for this technique. I only wish they would add a Chart/Blue back and a megabass's "Stain Reaction" white color for stained water.

From: Charley: Oregon 11/21/20

Comments: Have fished the mirrored minnow a few times in clear reservoirs in 12-17 feet without luck in 65 plus degree water. Lately these baits have been lights out in water temps from 45-58 degrees. I can get them down 18 feet max and would say 10 is shallowest id throw them personally. These baits have consistently out fished both the megabass deep six and deep x 300 for me lately. Have had best days on the blood craw color but also tripled the number of fish anyone in my fishing party caught on the mirrored minnow color. This is a lights out bait with the right retrieve and correct water temps. pretty much do exactly what the guys from Tactical Bassin say and these will work! I have caught them slow and medium rolling this bait, but the stop and go retrieve at high speeds with a 7 to 1 ratio reel has been far and away the best retrieve as of late for these. Have gotten some bone crushing strikes and multiple fish (LMB) over 5lbs which is an accomplishment where I am fishing. This all during a time when the other anglers I am with are not doing nearly as well on other cranks and techniques. This is not the only crankbait you will ever need but no one is claiming that, they have a permanent spot in my crankbait box now. If you are not having success with these just try adjusting your retrieve speed and depth, if you have electronics making sure you are on the fish never hurts either. I spend more money and time on my fishing then most and while I wouldn't say these cranks are a steal i do think they are worth the price, and the beat up looking cranks are always the best don't worry about hook rash or paint being scuffed from dozens of fish catches, these are nothing but reminders of good days on the water and the fact that the bait works! I would not recommend as your first crankbait but if you throw cranks even semi often these should have a place in your box. The guys who designed them have the utmost respect from me and in my opinion are the best channel to watch on YouTube if your looking to improve your fishing and get non bias reliable info only gained otherwise by countless hours and dollars spent on the water.

From: Alexander: New Jersey 11/9/20

Comments: Burning this bait with intermitent stops produced strikes from suspended fish that werent eating swimbaits or jerkbaits, works very much as advertised. The hooks it came with were dull out of the package though which is disappointing, switch them out before you lose a good fish.

From: Unknown: Clarks Hill, SC 11/2/20

Comments:Its a crankbait... definitely good looking, casts nicely with weight transfer system. Hooks are pretty stout, though Id rather have EWG trebles. Havent caught anything on this crankbait yet, and after a day throwing it there is some pretty gnarly hook rash. All in all a good lookin bait, but a little overpriced in my humble opinion.

From: Unknown - 11/1/20

Comments:These crankbaits are phenomenal! These dive around 10 feet and really fire the bass up as they bounce off structure. I have dominated local tournaments at Berryessa and Clear Lake using these as my ace in the hole. The hooks are stick sharp and I have caught this lure in my ponytail multiple times! Premium split rings too!

From: Matt A: California 6/22/20

Comments:I fish incredibly pressured lakes here in San Diego and these crankbaits have preformed when others have not! These are basically a less expensive version of the Megabass deep 6. I noticed from the other reviews for some reason people want their crankbaits to look new out of the package at all times... well I have news for you, the more beat up the better they catch fish!

From: Unknown: San Diego, CA 6/21/20

Comments:2nd review. As I stated in my previous review the finish is not very durable as it starts getting hook rash on the first couple of trips. I caught some nice bass on it earlier this year in February up to 7 pounds but now in June it is filling up with water and sinking like a rock and it comes to the surface during the retrieve. This lure has never hit anything other than the bottom during the retreive. I contacted R2S and they will replace it but this is unacceptable for a expensive crankbait. I have other much cheaper crankbaits that are 10 years old and don't fill up with water

From: Unknown: 6/4/20

Comments: The Crankbait are great.I can cast them a mile and with a slow steady retrieve I catch lunkers all the time at Clear Lake.Super sharp river2sea hooks got caught in my aftco hoodie and wouldn't let go.These handle perfectly paired with my NRX843 Loomis rod.The price is worth the pleasure.

From: Tim L: California 5/5/20

Comments: Fished it for a good 4-5 hours against a DD 22, DT 20 and Luhr Jensen Hot Lips Express 3/4oz in 15 ft of water on steep drop offs. The DD 22 out performed this lure and feels better on on a Dobyns 765 CB.I am a crankbait fanatic , I have used almost every one you could imagine, and this crank does not stand out from the rest in it's class.

From: RC: Walden,NY 4/17/20

Comments: Second review. I bought 4 of these. Lost one in deep rock or tree? Have had several get stuck and with lure retriever able to get back. Forth or fifth trip out actually caught a 3 pounder deep. Next trip out all three of the ones I have were coming to the surface and doing all kinds of weird things. Tried on different rods and line and constant unnatural retrieves. Going in the junk box. Extremely disappointed. Love videos of Tim and Mat's but $64 down the crapper.

From: Jeff: Poplar Bluff 4/17/20

Comments:It's a bit telling that these reviews are not stellar, yet these little units stay on backorder.... Hmmm. In my experience these baits have worked well. Caught a nice one on my third cast. Bait is a bit on the expensive side but works as advertised. Hardware is exceptional. No need to swap hooks or O-rings. Action is solid and definitely catches fish....

From:Rick: Shuqualak, MS 4/15/20

Comments:Fished this for the first time yesterday. Severe hook rash after less than 75 casts. I have other R2R crankbaits with a much more durable. Don't know why they cheaped out on this one. Bummed.

From: Arthur: Camden 3/29/20

Comments:It's just a crank. Nothing special. Dives to around 10-11 feet. Maybe they worked at Clear Lake but what doesn't work at Clear Lake? I haven't caught squat on em yet.

From: Unknown: 2/14/20

Comments:I had one of these nick my trolling motor on a cast didn't think much of it retrieved the bait, and the hooks were gone and the bait was busted. I don't know if it was a fluke, but I've hit baits a lot harder on rocks with no problems.

From: David: Lebanon, KY 2/12/20

Comments: Good but not perfect. This bait has a unique shaped bill and head and they have already caught me some nice bass. The action is good and the hooks are very sharp and strong. The problem I have is that after only 3 trips they are showing severe hook rash so obviously the finish is not durable at all. For the price the finish should be a lot more durable.

From: Unknown: 2/10/20

Comments:I received my Tactical Crankbait 75s: Mirrored, DD and Glass. If you are considering the Mirrored Minnow and DD Minnow, they are kind of similar; the chrome finish appears to be identical on each. They both have some natural translucency in the body, with a pinkish, silverside like tint added to the DD. To me, it's the finish on the back that really sets them apart visually. Mirrored has a stronger colored back that reminds me of a toned down sexy shad back, whereas the back on the DD is softer, and a more natural baitfish color. In some stain, it seems Mirrored would be easier for the fish to see. As for Glass, if you took a ghost minnow and gave it a touch darker finish, especially the back, it would be like the Glass Minnow. Just some quick feedback in regards to the amazing colorways for those considering either bait, especially the two that look similar.

From: RR: 2/5/20

Comments: I'll give props due where deserved. Seems this crank is worthy of T.Bassing video. A buddy let me borrow his glass mirror crank for a weekend on lake mead. Fishing is super slow this time of year on mead but the strippers were hitting it. Caught 4 at about 15 feet (the weight transfer is super nice on cast) wanted to make sure it was not just THAT crank and tied on 2 others. No go on the others. Put Matt's and Tim's back on & caught one more till end the day. Impressive considering lake mead is so tuff in Jan. Just bought 2 of my own. Good job Matt & Tim. Looking forward to you making your own jerk bait as good as megabass at half the price...

From: Dean: Las Vegas, NV 1/30/20

Comments:I bought 4 of these tactical dd green craw, red craw, dd minnow, and metallic minnow. I tried them all yesterday in slightly stained water. I threw to the bank and threw in deep water. Fast and slow retrieves, start and stop. All the ways to fish a Crankbait. I was fishing around suspended fish. Not a fish was caught in 6 hours. I did try other baits like jig, under spin and a jerk bait. Not one fish. Water temp was 40-42 degrees. Not saying these are bad baits, because nothing was working, but I am saying is there may be some hype with these baits?

From: Jeff Y: Poplar Bluff, MO 12/22/19

Comments: Just received my shipment of the new Tactical DD Crank. Haven't had the chance to get them wet yet, but after looking them over there's no doubt in my mind these will be a home run. Starting at the bill which has a very unique shape, unlike anything else I've seen. It also has a vertically oriented reinforced "chin" if you will. That leads me to believe these will be very durable in cold water, which is when I've broke most of my hardbaits over the years (I'm looking at you Vision110). Moving on to the body, it's much slimmer and has a narrow taper in order to produce a much tighter action than a standard crankbait. It even has molded in gills that look ultra realistic. The hooks are super sticky and unusually beefy (yet still small) for a bait this size. The colorways are subtle and understated, but if you know anything about Matt and Tim you know they're borderline manical about color selection, so there's no doubt in my mind these will do the trick. Do yourself a favor and pickup a handful, you'll be glad you did...

From: Eric: Springdale, AR 11/23/19

Comments:My buddy got his ghost and mirror minnow today, we drove down to Iowa and he was slaying fish on this bait. He hid it from me until he caught his 6th bass, a 8lb 5oz. I struggled to put 3 keepers in the boat. My buddy caught 6 fish in 4hrs... but they were all between 5lbs+/7lbs+ and then he got the 8lb 5oz. Think $15 is too expensive? Got my butt kicked. And i threw everything but the kitchen sink. Good thing it wasn't a tournament, even regret pills won't work. Great job TacticalBassin! Well worth $15 plus all the knowledge you guys have given us. For those who hesitate, you would regret as I have.
