Overview

Designed with two body segments connected with a strong double joint, the Shimano Gravitator 220 SS Glidebait features the unique Action Modifying Insert near the body joint that gives the bait a wide gliding action when inserted and a tighter swimming action when removed. To enable long casts, the Gravitator is also engineered with ARMABOOST, enabling the bait to disengage from an internal magnet and fold during the cast for more accuracy and distance, only to re-engage and unfold upon hitting the water.

Adding to the incredible realism of the Gravitator, select models come equipped with FLASH BOOST, consisting of reflective foil on micro springs that emit internal pulsing as the bait is being retrieved or sitting still, while other models feature SCALEBOOST, a holographic 3D film that captures the realistic appearance of baitfish. Armed with two sticky-sharp treble hooks, the Shimano Gravitator 220 SS Glidebait comes in a variety of tempting colors that effectively imitate everything from shad to shiners.

Good beginner glide, BUT..........Now, as someone who has actually fished multiple glide baits at many different price points, I wouldn't go so far as to compare it to $150 glides, let alone while having no experience fishing them. Now in regards to the action, the bait chops quite nicely. It wants to be fished quickly, and will do well picking apart individual spots, but still has a decent S-Swim when retrieved straight. The profile is great and I really wish there were more good shad glides out there at this price point. The bumper, at least in my opinion, doesn't really change the action that much. It's nowhere near the "wide, open water" glide that you'd get from say a Deps 250 or an Imakatsu BigRoid. Cool gimmick maybe, but I'd like to see a more pronounced bumper that tightens the action enough to give it a true "shooting" glide. The Arma Joint technology is also once again an interesting idea. But for a bait that for me, would excel at picking apart spots in a more close quarters environment, it's a little unnecessary. It also seemed to sometimes just not engage at all on some casts, and you really have to 'send' it to really get the latch to engage correctly. But again, I wouldn't really feel it necessary to fish this bait at long range as there are baits out there that would fit that role better. It's also unfortunate that for whatever reason, Shimano did not release the slow floating version in the US as I, along with much of the Asian scene, prefer slow floating baits. So all in all, very good bait for what it does at its price point. Sinks a little quick for my liking and if it were a slow floating, I'd definitely like it more. If you're in a system where big shad are swimming around, it'll match the hatch excellently. I absolutely would not compare it to baits three times as expensive. Glide baits cover such a huge range of actions and profiles that comparing them solely by price is not a meaningful comparison.

Such a great baitHonestly I've never fished with a glide bait that cost over 150 but I can honestly tell you this bait fishes just as good as any 150 dollar bait.. and when you consider all the technology in this bait like flash boost, I think it surpasses any 150 dollar bait.. all for only 50. Hooks are amazing. Comes with extra fins and tails and you can adjust the action of this bait.. 5 star!
