Definitely worth taking the time to look at.Between my son and I we own 6 Vanfords. Smooth reeling, good drag, but the best aspect about these reels is how lite they are, yet have no torque when fighting in a large fish.

Better than a stradicDecided to try out a new Shimano and I like this much better than my Stradic reels. Much better drag! Feels solid and very smooth. Highly recommend this reel

A good reel at the wrong priceFor the last 20 years I have been a dedicated user of Shimano spinning reels. The quality and value of their casting reels seemed to be on a steady downward curve ever since they redesigned the Curado B IMO. But, the spinning reels have always been fantastic with the Stradic Ci-4 being the stand out for me (I have 11 of them). I was a little dismayed when I saw Shimano was discontinuing the Ci-4 and replacing it with the Vanford. But, the look was similar and the technologies were the same so I figured it would essentially be the same reel dressed in a new look. I finally got around to getting my hands on 2 Vanford 3000's a little over a year ago and out of the box everything seemed good. They felt good, smooth, seemed a bit heavier than the Ci-4 but nothing that would really make a difference. I began to get concerned when I messed with the drag and noticed the sound and the feel was different from the Stradics. Gone was the tight, precise feeling and audible click and what replaced it was a much more loose feeling high pitched bell-like sound. Much like the drag sound you hear on the lower end Daiwa spinning reels. After a full year of use and abuse on bass, speckled trout, and redfish it is my opinion that the drag in this reel is significantly worse than it was on the Stradic. It seems like Shimano took the Ci-4, swapped the drag out for a cheaper system, and hiked the price. Much like what they've been doing with their casting reels for years, "redesigning" them with cheaper parts and then raising the price. The absolute most important part of a spinning reel (in my opinion) is the drag. A drag that slips on the hookset or doesn't consistently respond to tension can lead to lost fish and broken leaders. The Vanford does exactly that. I find myself tightening the drag more than I should to compensate for the slippage and risking a broken leader, or leaving it loose but risking a lost fish due to a bad hookset. The bottom line for me is the Vanford is not a bad reel, but it's not worth the $250 price tag. It performs perfectly fine in all aspects except for the most important one and that is a deal breaker for me. But there is hope, I think the best product in Shimano's entire lineup right now is the Spheros SW. It's light, smooth, tough, and most importantly of all it's drag system is very similar (possibly the same) as the Stradic - and it's only $134.99 - an absolutely killer value at that price point.

D.J. ShimanoAbsolutely zero negative comments on this outstanding spin cast. Great braking system, drag is smooth, quiet and lightweight. I like them so much I bought four more. The CX3000 is perfect for all my waterways here in the southwest from Lake Powell. Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, Lake Havasu and Lake Martinez.

SmoothI received the 3000 vanford due to purchasing a new Stradic FM. Had problems with play in handle of FM. Returned the FM to my local tackle shop and upgraded to the Vanford. Wow, this spinning reel is so good and very light and the drag is unreal for the price point. I highly recommend this reel.

Vanford 2500!I was in search for a drop shot reel and after hours of researching, I decided to go with the Vanford 2500! Awesome awesome reel! The drag is butter smooth and casts wonderful! I will definitely be buying more in the future. I paired mine with a ML zodias spinning rod and it is the perfect combo for drop shot fishing. If you’re hesitant about buying it, just do it! Won’t regret it all.

Very smoothThis reel is one of the first reels I’ve bought over 200 bucks, it was clearly worth it because it is so smooth at a light weight and durable too. I would definitely recommend buying this reel because it is very good for the money, and a great introduction for anglers who want get some nicer gear.

Vanford 3000This is my second vanford and I am very happy with it as I am with the 2500. I didn't know that the 3000 came with the larger paddle handle which I know some people don't prefer but I like them as I have several other shimano reels with that handle. Both of my Vanford's are on my St Croix tournament legend drop shot rods, 2500 with a 6ft 10in. med light, and the 3000 on the 7 ft. med. They match up perfectly as they are light, solid and cast beautifully. They are certainly one of the best high end lightweight reels on the market. The Vanford replaced the Ci4 line which I loved and thought was a little better looking reel but Shimano kept their high standard of producing quality reels with the Vanford which I highly recommend. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the drag on this 3000 is incredibly smooth, great for those monster smallmouth you are going to land with this reel.

Comments: great reels less line twist with the longer spool stroke . Awesome drag system.

From: Chuck: Quincy,Ill 9/4/23

Comments: Just bought my fourth vanford and its one of the best pieces of outdoor gear I own. Easily the best midrange price point spinning real that can hang with or just as comparable to the higher end reels. If your looking in the 150 to 200 $ range save for another week and get this one you won't be disappointed.

From: Bob: CDA, Idaho 8/31/23

Comments: I now own 3 Vanford reels 500, 1000, 2500. All were purchased with ultralight or finesse fishing in mind. My recent purchase was a 2500 which I paired with a 7'6 Light power Shimano Zodias rod. Spooled with a few yards of mono backer to 20lb braid with a 7lb fluorocarbon leader, I tied on a Ned Rig and was hunting Bass in about 23” of water at a local reservoir lake when I felt a huge hit, the hook set bent my rod 180 degrees. It turns out that an 11lb Channel Cat had smashed my Ned Rig and was hooked right in the corner of its mouth. The 2500 Vanford and Zodias Light power rod were able to manage the fish through an amazing fight, the rod tip was pointed straight down at the water while the drag worked perfectly giving just enough to preserve the the line and hook while I fought the big fish to the surface netting it and getting it into the boat. I'm going to say if the rig could manage that 11lb Cat, I have confidence that it could manage any Bass I might encounter. It already has boated a few 1-2lb Largemouth as well as a 4.5lb. My Vanfords have all been fine pieces of equipment, while pricey (the most expensive reels I own), they have all performed very well in their role in my fishing arsenal.

Comments: I got my first Vanford 5000 in January paired with st croix panfish 5'4. It's a great light set up. I then got 2000 paired on zodias ml rod great with micro Ned rigs and wacky worms with flick jig using 8 lb sufix braid and flouro leader I also got a 2000 on st croix panfish 9ft this weekend have been getting bluegills using 8 lb sufix braid. Got a 3000 on st croix 7'10 hair jig rod. Casts very far and smooth. 10# braid no fish yet.

Comments: I bought one 2500. for bass fishing. good reel the drag system however is iffy. I found it to skip. which could cost you a fish. I used to be all shimano spinning. went with diawa for bait casters. after the vanford I decided my next spinning reel is going to be a tatula 3000 spining reel. sorry shimano been with you for over 50 yrs. but for the price point of your high end and no longer including reel oil or spare spools im gone

From: sm: riverside co. ca. 8/3/23

Comments: I am happy with my purchase of the Vanford reel. Light weight with great performance. I have three of them and also a Stella and I like these almost as well.

From: Mark: Washington 7/18/23

Comments: This is my third Vanford so I guess that speaks for itself.

From: KEN: South Carolina 6/29/23

Comments: I can finally say I have an honest opinion. I bought the reel 2500 and match it with a Poison Adrena for my wife and it fits her well. Her hand doesn't tire out and she's able to cast all day. It's lightweight finesse fishing to what we go after. 4 out of 5 for sure. Still looking into the future for my Stella.

From: Unknown: 6/28/23

Comments: I found this spinning Vanford reel real sweet in terms of ease and performance in fishing for largemouth bass. I feel you get what you paid for in this line of reels. I highly recomend it to y'all fellow fishermen.

From: Joe: CA 6/28/23

Comments: Bought this for my wife to do some light line/finesse bass fishing. The lighter weight of the Vanford is perfect for her to cast all day while giving distance when needed and accuracy when making shorter casts. Very pleased with this reel and, mon, it's a Shimano, giving me peace of mind that it will hold up for many years of angling.

From: Marshall: Melrose, FL 6/24/23

Comments: Nice reel. I upgraded all the bushings to bearings and it's very smooth!

From: Unknown: 6/22/23

Comments: I Love the vanford 2500, I put this on a Elk River tournament series 6-10 med lite. Rod and reel combo weighs just over a half pound. Very comparable to my abu Garcia Zenon on the same rod which is twice the price. Love that reel rod combo also. Happy fishing everyone.... see you on the water..

From: Dennis: WI 5/13/23

Comments: I have 2 Vanfords, about to get my 3rd. I love them... they are better than stratics' they are just so smooth. They are so light, I have one static on an 842s jwr nrx+ and a 7"2' med fast phenoix m1.

From: Nico: Bronxville 4/9/23

Comments: I have two of these reels and there are the best!! Super smooth and very dependable! I highly recommend this reel!

From: Todd: Upstate New York 3/15/23

From: Alex : Michigan 3/15/23

Comments: My second Vanford, they are a very smooth and reliable reel as could be expected from Shimano.

From: Harold: MI 3/11/23

Comments: The vanford is a great reel. I have used other reels from different manufacturers but have not been as satisfied with them. The reel is great for the price and performance. I would recommend it to others.

From: David: Goose Creek, S. c. 29445 3/11/23

Comments: Great reel. Has me gravitating towards a drop shot even though I never used to throw it. Very smooth drag and great components to be at this price point.

Comments: Vanford 2000. What a great reel, super light and very smooth! I have only used this for a couple weeks, but very nice reel so far

From: Cliff : Ventura, Ca 2/6/23

Comments: This is my second Vanford. Very light, smooth, and a great drag.

From: SK: 12/27/22

Comments: Used the Vanford for not quite a year now for a drop shot reel and it is amazing. I always tend to find myself gravitating towards this reel even as a power fisherman, just because it is so light and effortless to use. I paired mine with a G Loomis GCX drop shot rod and it is just feather light. Sensitive, strong, and reliable. Just a delight to fish with.

From: Garrett: MO 12/23/22

Comments: I have used the Vanford 2500 for nearly a year now on a G. Loomis GCX for finesse and dropshot applications. This reel is unbelievably light and smooth. The bail moves effortlessly, the gears are quiet and smooth, and it looks fantastic. Amazing reel!

From: Garrett: MO 12/16/22

Comments: I matched the 2500 up with my 7' Point Blank LXF spinning rod and the setup.is phenomenal! Cast great with 6# braid and fluoro leader for smallies. Has not let me down yet. Super, Super smooth and it reels so effortlessly. Looking for another Christmas present for my 6"9" Point Blank rod.

From: Ron: DE 11/19/22

Comments: I own Shimano Stella, Twin Power, and Sustain spinning reels. I recently purchased a Shimano Vanford. I found this reel extremely disappointing. Yes, the reel is light but, in making it light, the reel designer took short cuts in the materials. Most notably, I found the drag less than smooth. When I took the reel drag apart, I found the drag discs were very small. I recommend that you stick with the more expensive Shimano models.

From: Unknown: 11/17/22

Comments: I've been using Shimano Reels exclusively for more than 20 years now. Mostly Stradics and CI4 and 6-8 different model Sustains. Love the last generation of CI4 and was depressed I couldn't buy them anymore. Decided to pull the trigger and try the Vanford in 3000 and 4000. Glad I did, both are slippery smooth! I'm glad I didn't try to find CI4 on eBay. These seem maybe even smoother so far. TackleWarehouse has awesome customer service and can usually get items shipped for free in less than a week. Thank you TackleWarehouse!

From: Ronny: Wesley Chapel 11/17/22

Comments: Shimano Vanford Spinning Reels offers value in the mid-price point for bass spinning reels. Tried several other brand fishing reels in that price point and did not like the quality. The Shimano Vanford's are exceptionally light and are matched well for the mid-priced Megabass fishing rods.

From: Richard: CA 10/31/22

Comments: Light, smooth reel with precise drag adjustments. Paired the 3000 series reel with an 822dsr NRX + and it balances perfectly.

From: Byron: New York 10/8/22

Comments: Reel works well. Smooth, long cast no line issues. I would buy it again which is the best endorsement you can get.

From: John: New york 9/29/22

Comments: Awesome reel. Light, smooth and will cast a mile. I have it paired with a Shimano Expride b med action rod and it is by far my favorite. So much I had to get another one and now I have 2 of the same combo.

From: Unknown: 9/27/22

Comments: Great reel, but this reel is almost too light to properly balance with a typical say 7ft M spin rod. Unless you have an exceptionally light rod like a xenon, shorter 6'6" steez or a shorter 6'6" or 6'8" nrx or conquest, the 3000 and def 2500 or 2000 size is way too light. 7ft combos feel very tip heavy ,and need a normal weighted shimano like a TP or stradic etc to balance. A powell 702 for example is a decently light rod nothing crazy tho, and the 4000 still isnt heavy enough to balance. My 852s nrx+ for example requires a 4000 size vanford to balance properly. No complaints at all, like I said, great reel, awesome line management, casting distance with 10lb braid, and a buttery smooth drag. Just a word of warning when a properly balanced combo is important to you.

From: Luke: Colorado 8/7/22

Comments: I don't understand how this reel is getting the positive reviews. After being a long time ci4+ user I was excited to use the new and improved version of that reel. I have been highly disappointed in the Vanford due to the poor drag system in comparison to the ci4+. The drag on the ci4 is what always separated that reel from others in it's class and find the drag on this reel terrible. It slips and is either too tight or too loose and quite disappointing. I have sold both my Vanfords in an effort to try and find a better replacement for the ci4s.

From: Jeff: MN 8/2/22

Comments: Crazy how things work out... I purchased a double knob power handle for my Stradic Ci4 2500/3000 but didn't realize til I received it that I had purchased the 72mm, which made turning the reel very difficult. I didn't want the hassle of trying to return it so I did the next best thing...I purchased the Vanford 1000 and it paired very well !! It's perfectly matched, feels exactly like the stock handle, and this reel is butter smooth! I paired the reel with a birthday gift to self, a medium-light Poison Adrena and oh wow, it's my ultimate Shimano setup. I do also have a Stella 2500 paired with a St Croix Legend Elite and the Vanford/Poison setup is like a feather compared to it. I only use it for finesse presentations but my last outing, I tied on a 3.8" Keitech on an 1/8 oz jighead and I had the time of my life... caught anwhere from 1 to 4lbs and the Vanford/Poison came through every time, never lost one, though the 4lber took 20 mins to boat it. Love my Vanford, not sure if I'll get another one but that's only because I have many Stradic Ci4s that are still champs! Vanford is worth the $$$!!!!

From: Nate: Folsom, CA 7/9/22

Comments: If you're in need of a reel to manage straight nylon line, the Vanford is exceptional at line management. I love Daiwa, but their spools in this range and below, do not handle line as nearly as well. Daiwa's reserved for spinning braid needs for me. Get a 4000 size Vanford or higher Shimano reel for straight nylon line needs.

From: Dan: Illinois 7/7/22

Comments: Excellent reel, I have all Shimano reels for a reason and this one is no different. The engineering is outstanding, the spool upgrade is longer and not deeper increasing casting distance, and the drag is butter smooth. I own 5 Stradics and 7 Curados in 3 different models never ever a problem do yourself a big favor buy Shimano. Good Fishing. Mark.

From: Mark Lear Sr.: Westland Michigan 7/5/22

Comments: I have been a Diawa spin and Shimano cast reel guy my whole life I keep trying Shimano stratics and each new improvement but am disappointed every time I don't like them because of effort at start up. I reel set and a hard slow start up means lost fish to me. Diawa has been my only answer until now. The Vanford has solved this problem. It is a light smooth tight reel and has an acceptable start up. I now own 2 of them and the only complaint I have now with most quality spin reels is a lack of a back reel lever

From: Unknown: 7/2/22

Comments: Got the 2500 for bass fishing and light inshore fishing here in SD. Definitely a little smoother and lighter than the previous Ci4+, I like it for how fast the startup is, it's a real fast spinning reel that you can fish almost like a baitcaster getting real quick hooksets. However, I am not a fan of the new drag clicker, it sounds a bit cheap and doesn't have a nice ring to it. In addition, after only a few months of use, and some nice drag-ripping bass, the drag became jumpy, I have since opened it up 10+ times, regreased and even replaced the drag washers, with no luck, the drag still being uneven. Not sure what is up, but other than that a phenomenal reel well worth the price. Has caught me a lot of nice bass. Might just get another.

From: Patrick: San Diego, CA 7/7/22

Comments: This was my 3rd Vanford for my walleye rods. I have purchased both the 2500 and 3000.I have had no issues at all with any of these reels and actually have noticed with braid I have had no wind knots and no issues with the reel spool or bail. Perfectly smooth working reel and a good drag. I would recommend this reel to most fishermen.

From: Unknown: 6/26/22

Comments: Finally got some time with the 2500 over the weekend and I have to say this reel is very smooth. Caught some nice size fish with it and it handled extremely well. Drag is very smooth. I did not lose one fish once they were hooked. Only concern is that after fighting a few fish, seems like the reel is starting to make noise when I reel now. I cleaned it after using it and we'll just have to see from there.

From: Brandon: Mableton, GA 4/25/22

Comments: Last year, I decided to upgrade my spinning reels. After some online research, talking to some fishing buddies and my go to tackle shop, I bought the Shimano Vanford 3000 & Diawa Tatula 3000. Both reels are phenomenal, no quarrels about either one, the Tatula comes in at $180, the Vanford at $230. Head to head, I'd give a 'slight nod' to the Vanford, but not by much not enough to justify the cost difference. It's that close !! You simply cannot go wrong with either reel.

From: Unknown: Research Triangle, NC 4/19/22

Comments: I have had a Shimano Sahara spinning set up for the last seven years. It has been flawless and Shimano's will last forever. I have never been much of a finesse fisherman until this past fall and winter. I decided to upgrade my setup with an Ark Invoker Pro 7'6" ML and the Shimano Vanford. This reel is the bomb. Light, tough, and pure quality. You can't go wrong with a Shimano.

From: Dave: Texas 4/13/22

Comments: I used the Daiwa Fuego Lt (awesome reel) on my light setup for many years until I picked up the Vanford. This is even lighter than the Fuego (same spool size equivalent) and noticeably smoother while feeling more robust at the same time. It casts incredibly well on my rod and I have no hesitation that the quality will hold up over time if it is anything like its predecessor (Ci 4+). The drag system has not failed me the few times large aggressive pike have been hooked. There are more expensive reels in the Shimano line-up but this is one of the best bang for buck reels out there. 10 / 10

From: Colin: Unknown 4/9/22

Comments: I Got the Vanford 2000hg in April 2021 after fishing this reel hard on hundreds rainbow trout over the past 8 months i can say from experience that this is a amazing reel that is just as just as smooth as a reel twice its price. Such a Super smooth drag that helped me catch and land many trout in the 3-5lbs and range and even a few just over 7lbs on 2-4 lbs test line. Highly recommend this reel.

From: Tim: Indio, Ca 12/24/21

Comments: I upgraded five my spinning reels to the Vanford. I love these reels lite with a great drag system. They really made a difference in fishing harder and longer! Also smooth as butter:)

From: Jeff: Jamestown, CA 12/23/21

Comments: Earlier this year I bought a pair of new reels, Shimano Vanford VFC3000XGF's. While I am a long time Shimano fan, my excitement for Shimano was renewed with the Vanford. Smaller, lighter, holds more line, super smooth retrieve, great gear ratio, just an all around versatile fresh/salt reel. This is a super awesome reel I have used for reds, yellowtail trout, big mouth bass, catching pin fish for bait, crappie, and others pan and saltwater fish. Great reel, fair price, outstanding and versatile. I Highly recommend this reel for anyone that fishes both inshore salt and fresh water. Just Plain Awesome!

From: Matthew: Saint Augustine, Fl 12/15/21

Comments: Super smooth performance all around! Casts great, bail is high quality & the handle turns extremely SMOOTH! Did I mention it's also light... get one, better yet get three!!!

From: Sean: SD, CA 12/14/21

Comments: Awesome reel, almost too pretty to use. Spool with light braid. I use 8lb J Braid with a 2-4 lb fluoro leader. Cast those small baits and increase the sensitivity of your light to ultralight rods. Wish it came with extra carbon fiber spool then I would spool it with 2-4 lb straight mono for lakes stocked with smaller trout.

From: Frank: West Hills, CA 12/13/21

Comments: Hats off to Shimano!! I just purchased two Vanford 4000HG spinning reels and am totally impressed with the advances Shimano continues to make with their products. The long stroke spool and drag system are a game changer for me. I use 10 and 12 pound Seaguar Abrazax and will never have to worry about twisted line again. If you are obsessed like me with the most sensitive rod/reel combo you can buy, start with this reel and pair it with your favorite rod and youâll feel the difference with your first cast, five stars !!!

From: Scott: Unknown 12/9/21

Comments: WOW! That's what I have to say about this reel. In the past I had always used cheaper reels like the Daiwa Legalis and Exceler. Most of the time you spend big money, but you don't notice a huge difference in performance. That is not the case with the Vanford 2500. When you turn the handle you feel the difference in smoothness and tolerances. It's amazingly light! No free play in the handle. When you open the bail it feels solid, and makes a clicking sound that I like. I'm beyond impressed with this reel! It's just a fine piece of equipment!!! If i could afford it, I would replace all my spinning reels with the Vanford. Don't hesitate to buy it!

From: Chris: Cincinnati, OH 12/4/21

Comments: Amazing reel. Caught all my Fall bass on this reel. Smooth, light, and extremely efficient.

From: JC: New Jersey 11/27/21

Comments: I bought the 2500 for use as an all around reel. I liked it so much I bought a second one as a serious upgrade for my equipment. Fit and finish is second to none. Quality is of course on point. No regrets. I highly recommend the Vanford line of reels from Shimano.

Comments: I purchased the 2000 model, like it's predecessor the Stradic, it's smooth and featherlite with a drag 2nd to none. Only drawback I've found is the Vanford doesn't perform well with cold weather, seems to stiffen up and I can actually feel the gearing as I reel.

From: Unknown: 11/10/21

Comments: This reel is more than what I thought it was meaning it is absolutely smooth and has performed excellent!!! Do not hesitate to try this reel I already have a second one!!!!!!

From: Ken: Salisbury, MD 11/5/21

Comments: Purchased the Vanford 3000, this reel is butter smooth. The long spool makes casting a breeze. Paired with 30 lb. braid a G.Loomis NRX 7'1 is a perfect combo. For the price, you cannot ask for a better reel.

From: Unknown: 11/4/21

Comments: BUTTER smooth drag and Reliable ! I paired it up with Dobyns Sierra rod and couldn't be happier. I have 2 Ci4's and one Stradic. I know these Shimano reels will last me a long time. Worth the money!!

From: Mike: Cumming, GA 11/2/21

Comments: I ordered the 2000 size Vanford specifically for crappie fishing, but, because it was already late in the year I was only able to use it on one fishing trip. Already having many Stradic and Sustain Shimano reels, I expected quality from Shimano, which I got! The reel was exceptionally light weight and performed flawlessly as we hammered some large crappie that day. The drag was particularly impressive as I use only 4 lb. line when crappie fishing. The only negative was discovering, when the reel first arrived, that it does not have an anti-reverse switch...which concerned me, UNTIL I saw how the drag performed. It was unnecessary to back reel as the drag flawlessly reacted to each fish. At this point, despite the lack of an anti-reverse switch, I am impressed with this reel and am looking forward to next spring's crappie season. I would recommend it highly for anyone wanting a lighter high quality reel!!

From: Unknown: 11/2/21

Comments: This reel was worth the wait. TW was the only retailer (online or B&M) that had it, and they had it to me in days. I'm using the Vanford for my finesse rigs, and was able to use it on the Delta last week. Paired it with a MF Doby's Fury, and I couldn't be happier. It casts a mile, and the reel is the smoothest I've ever used. Thanks Shimano and TW!

From: Jay: Redwood City, CA 10/25/21

Comments: Let me preface by saying that I am an Atypical bass angler in that I do not use casting reels. The Vanford is very good reel. My other reels are the NASCI. I thought I would see if the Vanford was worth more than twice the price so I purchased one. Well the answer is it depends. The Vanford is lighter by over 2oz, slightly smoother in the retrieve, has slightly higher gear ratio (3000 vs 3000) and it has slightly better casting distance than the NASCI. The drag system is slightly different but both the NASCI and Vanford have good drag systems with nothing to complain about. I think the Vanford is worth the extra price for techniques and/or areas that depend on casting distance and/or require cranking. I am certain that I will buy a few more of these reels.

From: Bryan: Medford, OR 10/23/21

Comments: Been waiting for the Ultegra to come in stock, so did some research and spent a little more for the Vanford!! Did not regret it!! Very smooth with a quality drag system. Bought two and plan on a third very soon!

From: Unknown: 10/18/21

Comments: I've got Tatula LT's and all the Revo stuff and after having issues with 2 brand new Revo premiers I picked up a Vanford 2500 and fell in love... I grabbed another 3000 from TW for my dropshot rod and it's flawless. I just got back from a 4 day smallie trip in northern ME and put probably 150 fish on this thing without a single hiccup. 10 fish over 4lbs and the drag is just perfect...

From: Kelcey: Unknown 10/8/21

Comments: I have the 2500 and the 3000 and I love them both. They are smooth the drag works perfectly. I used to always back reel so it took a little faith and prayers but I am comfortable with it now. Paired them both up with a Falcon rods they are light and sensitive. Oh the line pick up ratio allows me more casts too. If you are wavering get one or two.

From: Unknown: 10/8/21

Comments: I purchased the 2500 and the 3000 for a St. Croix jig and rap, and a rip and rap rod. I would have like a single thumb handle paddle on the 3000 but that is my preference and I know I'll get by with the little larger handle on that model, I just wanted the little quicker line pick up from that model for my application for this reel. I fish walleye and perch and crappie most often , once in awhile smallmouth and largemouth just to fish. The reels are smooth and not cumbersome which means a lot to me as an avid fisherman . I have way too many rods and reels as I review this, but I like good equipment .

From: Robert: Mexico, NY 10/7/21

Comments: After a lot of debating, I finally pulled the trigger on the 2500 sized Vanford and couldn't be more happy. This reel is beyond lightweight. I received it with the new Nasci FC, in hand the Nasci feels twice as heavy. Super smooth retrieve and drag. I landed a 2.7# largemouth on a 1/16 crappie jig and the reel did amazing helping to keep her from bending out that time hook.

From: Dustin: Lake Havasu City, AZ 10/7/21

Comments: Hands down the best spinning reel I've ever used! Such an advantage when battling big smallmouth with it's state of the art drag system!

From: Paul: Hudson, Ma. 10/5/21

From: Ed: Sykesville, MD 9/25/21

Comments: Smooth reel. Super compact and great spool. Have it paired up with my 7' shimano Slx and wow! What a combo!! Would definitely recommend if you want something compact and packs a punch!!

From: Kevin : Sacramento, CA 9/22/21

Comments: In hand it feels amazing. I havent mounted it to a rod yet as I'm building it now. But its the nicest spinning reel I've ever owned.

From: Tim: MD 9/20/21

Comments: Very smooth reel I have it paired with a dobyn dc 733 and I couldn't be anymore happy

From: Unknown: 9/19/21

Comments: I bought a Vanford 2500 to replace an older Shimano while on an Erie trip. I messed with a hand full of other models and brands previous to this trip with the intention of purchasing a good reel. The cost didn't really detract from the all the pros as I have already purchased a 3000 as well and plan to get a smaller one. Light weight, ultra smooth, balanced rotor, rigid spool, consistent drag, great bail action.

From: Adam: Columbus, OH 9/18/21

Comments: This is the best spinning reel I own. The drag was buttery smooth and the line never tangled in the spool. I liked it so much I bought another one.

From: Unknown: 9/13/21

Comments: The people you see here dumping their emotions into a vast pit of confusion and hysteria, is because they made a concrete decision by acquiring the Stradic CI4+. Shockingly, that decision became one of the best investments of their lives. I conquered. After wielding a 2500,3000 and a 1000 reel size with the CI4+, I have determined that the Vanford, not only stands true to the Shimano brand, but surpasses its predecessors. It's lighter, smoother, and the aesthetics are beginning to grow on me. As well as bringing all that noticeable gear ratio and power "I'm pin pointing bass 40 yards out, with a weightless senko on a dime, Brotha". Please, grow out of that CI4+ plus shell, and step into Vanford County.

From: Tony: Farmville, VA 9/7/21

Comments: This is hands down the best spinning reel I've ever owned. Super light and sleek design. Shimano pulls through again!

From: Ryan: Kingston Springs, TN 9/7/21

Comments: I decided to treat myself to a really good light spinning outfit. After a lot of research, I chose the Shimano Vanford 3000 and filled it with 100 yards of 20# braid and a 50 yard topshot of 6# fluorocarbon. Then I paired it with a 2-piece Shimano SLXS70M2, 3/16 to 5/8 ounce, 8 to 30 pound rating. I couldn't be happier. Very light, balances right, just feels very good in my hand. Casts like a dream. I went with the 3000 size specifically for the t-shaped handle, and it feels good to my old arthritic fingers. The reel is extremely smooth, no effort at all to use, and the drag is fierce. A really well-engineered reel.

From: Gary: Uknown 9/6/21

Comments: This reel performs fantastic. I also use the revo spinning reel, and this reel is much better.

From: Joe: Nashville, TN 9/3/21

Comments: Smooth reel casts as far as you'll need to. Love it. Has handled all ive put it through. Highly recommend it

From: Stan: Riverside, CA 9/2/21

Comments: My Van ford reel is awsome engages easily cast a mile and the drag is super smooth, it handled a 6# bass easily love it highly recommend it

From: John: Ramona, CA 8/27/21

Comments: I have only used this reel one time. It was very smooth and casts well. I used 30# Power Pro Braid. It did well while catching many large redfish. Used on a medium action Shimano Terramar 8Ft rod. I like this reel very much. I plan to buy another soon.

From: Unknown 8/23/21

Comments: After purchasing a 2500, and testing it thoroughly on several outings, I purchased a second one, also a 2500. I could not be more pleased with this spinning reel. Like all (so far) Shimano products, this reel has proved to be reliable and worth the asking price (as it applies to other spinning reels of a similar price). If you're looking for a smooth and dependable spinning reel, the Vanford is a safe purchase.

From: Unknown: 8/20/21

Comments: After fishing my Vanford for a couple months now, I can say that I am extremely pleased with my purchase. It definitely lives up to the Shimano name. I bought the 2000 and use it primarily for drop shot and neko rigs. I am usually fishing 15lb braid with a 6lb flouro leader so having a smooth drag system is a must. The Vanford has proven on multiple occasions to be smooth and reliable when fighting bigger fish. Super smooth and super quiet when reeling. There is a minimal bearing break in period regarding the bearings, but after one or two trips out, the reel is even better than out of the box. The reel itself is very aesthetically pleasing as well. Time will tell if this reel is worth the money, but being a Shimano I'm sure it will be a reliable reel for many years to come.

From: Colin: Bayfield, CO 8/20/21

Comments: I am very impressed with these new Shimano Vanford spinning reels. I use them for my guide service and my client's love them. The are the perfect match paired up with my Dobyns Champion XP rods.

From: Art: Temecula, CA 8/17/21

Comments: GREAT SPINNING REEL ! I will have to say these Shimano Vanfords are one of the best spinning reels Shimano has made for the money ! Very smooth has a great drag system and super casting distance ..A reel crowd pleaser!

From: Dennis: Las Vegas, NV 8/13/21

Comments: An amazing reel. Works like a charm super light and reliable. I own four now And they are my go to's. Top-of-the-line

From: Kevin: Idaho 8/11/21

Comments: Vanford 2000 is the best spinning reel I have used, paired with a 7' medium-light rod. It is incredibly light and smooth. The handle could be a little bigger, but that would increase the weight of the reel. This is the combo for throwing senkos and light plastic for bass!

From: Unknown: 8/8/21

Comments: Outstanding Reel!  I switched all of my Stradics over to the Vanford reels.  Light weight, smooth drag and effortless reeling.  I have 2 3000's and 1 4000 for all of my Inshore saltwater fishing.  Honestly wasn't a fan of the Stradic Ci4 reels, but these Vanford reels are different.  Love them!

From: BC: Chesapeake Bay 8/6/21

Comments: This reel is very light in weight, feels sturdy, its paired up with a Taipan Elite Series rod.. Mainly used for neko rig or drop shot. Casting feels good, breaking is smooth, and it looks nice.

From: Unknown: Yuma, AZ 7/27/21

Comments: After a month of using this on my main dropshot setup I'd say it's a good reel but I just don't understand the hype and the huge following this reel has. Probably not worth the money overall. It's smooth, but it's not any better than a Daiwa Fuego LT or a Pflueger president XT, both of which are less than half the price of the Vanford. I use it with 10 lb braid to a 20-25 ft 6 lb fluoro leader for dropshotting smallies, so the drag gets worked out routinely. Again, it works just fine but it's not any better than some much cheaper options. In my opinion the Fuego LT is even a little smoother than the Vanford overall. Iâll keep this reel but probably will rotate it to my backup dropshot setup.

From: Eric: Minnesota 7/24/21

Comments: Love my Vanford spinning reel cast like a dream handles big bass easily

From: John: Ramona, CA 7/20/21

Comments: I'm very impressed with this reel! I was in the market for another Stradic Ci4 when I found out about this reel and it is everything the Stradic Ci4 was! I paired the 2500 size up with a Dobyns Champion XP 682 exclusively for drop shotting and it's perfect! Super light and sensitive but has plenty of back bone to horse in giant smallmouth out on Lake St.Clair.

From: Evan: Fenton, MI 7/15/21

Comments: Very light, smooth and cast amazing. Haven't caught any big bass on it yet but did catch some bullgills that pull drags. If you are looking for a spinning reel of that price range I would suggest you to give this a try, you can go wrong with it.

From: Otto: California 7/16/21

Comments: Its an amazing reel its smooth&super light just as others has said phenomenal reel will be ordering 2 or 3 more real soon

From: Unknown: Hamlin, NY 6/22/21

Comments: This thing is amazing. Super light and strong. I would definitely buy another but for the price I would rather buy a Tatula. Only reason is it's usually 30-50$ cheaper then the Vanford  It feels like the same reel just a different color. Casts the same and drags both sound the same. You can't go wrong with either reel or company.

From: Jack: Massachusetts 5/20/21

Comments: I love this thing. I have the predecessor Stradic CI4+. I think that the marketing about how "fast" the reel is is just that. Marketing. There is certainly a lower moment of inertia on the rotor, but it's not some game changing matter. None of the marketing really draws any attention to what the real improvements to the Vanford are over the Stradic CI4+ FB. I don't even need to really talk about them, as they are mostly the same as those made to the Stradic FL. This reel has significantly better protection against water intrusion than the earlier product. I haven't dunked a reel very many times, but I like having this kind of peace of mind. I have caught a lot of fish so far finesse fishing it on a St. Croix Victory Lite-Weight rod. They're a very good match for one another. Have mostly fished 2.8 inch paddle tails, ned rigs, and small tubes. It has an excellent drag. I've gotten several "big" finesse fish on it so far. There's really nothing to complain about. Does what it should d
o and feels good while doing it. Looks cool too.

From: Ralph: Richmond, KY 5/15/21

Comments: I love Shimano rods & reels!  I absolutely love my Stradic 1000 but this new Vanford takes it to another level! I've owned this reel for over 6 months now and it is amazing! It's light weight, well made, strong and with a killer drag system.  Overall, a perfect 10.  Bravo Shimano!

From: Warran: Calgary AB, Canada 4/4/21

Comments: The Vanford 3000 is yet another great reel from shimano, I own several shimano reels from the Stratic Ci4, to the Stella.the new Vanford is rite there with the stratic Ci4 maybe slightly better. At the price the Vanford is a great buy, I'm sure I will be able to use this reel for the next 20 years if I choose to. The reel is very smooth, cast great, plenty of line 230 6#test. All in a light package.

From: Steve: Elk Grove 3/15/21

Comments:Amazing spinning reel. Very smooth and light. Paired it with a dobyns 7ft/1in medium light rod. Super sensitive and powerful!

From: Joe 3/11/21

Comments: Got the 3000. There's a little play in the handle knob and the anti-reverse has a touch of motion. Gears are a touch noisy. I've checked out the reel in stores as well, same thing with 2 other reels while handling at a brick and mortar. So far line management and casting distance seem slightly better than past 2 gens of Stradic and Tatula. If line management seems better through the season without any apparent degradation in anti-reverse play/gear noise, then I won't regret it. It's been a while since I've experienced a spinning real purchase that I don't have solid confidence in.  Could be going back to Daiwa. Daiwa just seems like a safer bet in the past 5 years. Not partial to Daiwa or Shimano. Whatever performs and lasts. Apologies for the whining. It fishing. I'm alive and have a roof over my head.

From: Gary: Illinois 3/12/21

Comments: Best spinning reel I have even owned super smooth and light with power to have all three of those elements in a spinning reel is outstanding.

From: Brad 2/21/21

Comments:  The reel seems to be nice so far, I have used it  a few times. The reel is smooth and the drag is nice. But in reality I don't  believe it is any better than the stradic c i14. Nothing really seems to be any different don't expect any real difference than the ci14.

Comments:
Waited for the Vanford and it is nice and casts well.  To put this review in perspective I have 4 Stradics and Tatula from last year all 4000 size.  I use spinning for bass and it is hard to find good reels that have the gears to throw crankbaits.  The Vanford operates nice and is lighter than the Stradics, although the Tatula is just as light and has survived its first year without any problems used for flat side cranks.  The line lays better on the daiwa and I think it would work with larger diameter line (14 lb).  The drag on my Vanford woks well after the initial set, but that is a problem also.  I use these 4000 reals 3-4 times a week for bass I adjust the drag by pulling it then catch a bass or 2 and leave it alone although I constantly confirm it is set.  Side note all my spinning reals need to have the drag loosened when temp is below 50.  The Vanford is quick to loosen on my hook set then it seems to function as it should.  I hope mine gets better with use as for now the Stradics seem better and the Diawa is really good.  Caught 23 incher 2-4-21 3 feet of water full of eggs around 8 14 lb Sunline mono Shimano Stradic CI4a St Croix Mojo Bass GLASS Picasso chatter bait Zoom REGULAR fluke trailer.

From: Gary: Midvale, UT 2/7/21

From: Tracy: Deltona, FL 2/5/21

Comments: Awesome reel...very light and smooth as silk.  I would recommend getting something like the Piscifin line reeler for spinning reels to keep the line from twisting.

From: Martin: Austin, TX 2/4/21

Comments: Got the 2500 for Christmas from my wife.I have already caught a bunch of nice smallies with it. Typical higher end Shimano, super smooth, great drag, feel like I could pull a truck out of the mud with it.Will be ordering another.

Awsome reel, silky smooth and casts great. Worth every penny!

From: Unknown: 1/23/21

Comments: Something that people should note that the 2500 is smaller then ci4. I would have bought the 3000 if I would have known, performance lets see how it stands up but hard to beat an almost perfect reel in the ci4.

From: Mike: NC 1/12/21

Comments: The Vanford makes my Ci4+ and Stradic FL seem heavy and outdated. This reel is super light for a 3000 size. I paired it with a 2020 Zodias 7' light for dropshoting winter bass but may end up putting it on my expride 7' med regardless of matchy matchy colors. Phenomenal reel. Definitely my most expensive and best feeling reel by far. I didn't think it was going to make me feel my FL was heavy haha.

From: Jed: Rohnert Park 1/11/21

Comments:The reel is smooth as butter, and the start up inertia is that much more precise than the last model. If you loved the CI4+ you should love this one more. I have the 1000, 2500, and 3000 all paired with the new zodias rods.

From: Daniel: United States 1/11/21

Comments:This reel is much more refined than the previous model (Ci4+). The tolerances feel much tighter from the minimal play in the handle to the ultra low start up inertial. I would buy this over the FL or the old Ci4+ any day. I do also own a Tatula and would say that they are very comparable as far as smoothness, but the Vanford has a leg up on the Tatula because of just how little effort it takes to spin the handle and the casting distance. The only knock on the reel I have is the color scheme and appearance, but if you are on the fence... this reel won't let you down.

From: Clayton: California 12/23/20

Comments:Absolutely phenomenal reel. I have two stradic ci4+s right now and somehow this reel is smoother and has a better drag system than both of them, not to mention it is lighter. I was blown away my first time using it!

From: Preston - Atlanta, GA 10/13/20

Comments: I was able to test out a 2500HG Vanford on a G Loomis 7'1 NRX medium spinning rod for a week in N Michigan catching trophy smallies, walleye, etc. Being a diehard Ci4 fan, I was initially shocked when Shimano moved to the Vanford. However, after a week of heavy use, I feel the Vanford is an improvement (Ci4 is still great!). The Vanford is lighter, casts further, somehow is even smoother and should hold up as well or better than the Ci4. I don't plan on immediately upgrading reels, but when needed, I won't hesitate to add another Vanford to the mix.

From: TP 9/26/20

Comments:I got this reel 2 weeks ago. At first I was skeptical, I did not cosmetically like the design either. Its very light, smooth, and powerful when reeling in it cranks and has a slow start up which helps draw down to the fish when setting the hook. It cast a mile because of the larger vertical spool. Drag is awesome and sounds great. I have the stradic ci4 and they look like family lol. The Vanford is smoother and lighter. I do like the color of the reel and its design now. The purpose of it for me has been for soft plastics Neko, drop shot etc... I have it on a 73 medium fast action with 15lb Powerpro slick 8 braid. Its a phenomenal reel you wont be let down. Will see its durability overtime.
