Really want to love it, but I don'tNot sure if anyone else has had this problem, but every one I have ever used has a problem vibrating at start-up regardless of what trailer I use. Sometimes it is fine, but equally I have problems with the blade needing several turns of the reel handle before it starts its thing.

Comments: The Thunder Cricket is a great lure catching that really catches fish. Everyone is throwing chatterbaits with ZMan's Jackhammer being at the top of the list. I do fish a Jackhammer, especially in the early part of the year. The bass get a reprieve during the winter months because fishermen have focused on hunting more, so the fish don't get bombarded with the Jackhammer and become warier of the sound it makes. I believe the bass start shying away from the Jackhammer's hard thump. This is where I find the Thunder Cricket excels in my opinion. The TC has more of a subtle vibration and sound which is different than what they've been hearing. I've done well following fishermen who were throwing the Jackhammer and throwing the TC in the same places they just fished and catching more and bigger fish than they did. The only knock I have against the TC is the skirt. StrikeKing needs to have these skirts hand tied as the skirts have a tendency to get pulled out after catching fish all day. I then hand tie new skirts on. StrikeKing needs to do better. It is a great lure and I actually catch more bass on it than I do on the Jackhammer. However, I do fish waters that are heavily pressured and the TC is that subtle chatterbait that everyone needs in their arsenal of lures.

From: Stan: Columbus, GA 10/26/22

Comments: When it come to Bait selection on catching Bass money is no object, The Thunder cricket is a fish catching machine as well as the Jack hammer but the Thunder Cricket hands down is better around wood cover including skipping docks, i have had no problem with the quality of the bait either.

From: Unknown: 8/10/21

Comments: DO NOT BUY. Spend 2 more dollars and get a jackhammer. Way better colors and get a hand tied skirt in a jackhammer and much harder vibration. Eyes do not stay on these and only one trailer keeper. If I spend 14 dollars on a bait I should get a 14 dollar bait. I wouldn't buy this this if it was 8 dollars. Very disappointed in Strike King. They make good baits but you need to go back to the drawing board on this one. Can't believe they even put this on the market.

From: Dylan: MN 4/22/21

Comments: I don't notice a different in terms of hook ups with these more expensive chatterbaits (Z-man & Strike king). The $5 z-man chatterbaits put just as much fish in the boat as these other more expensive baits. The only difference is obviously the vibrations.

From: Luke: California 4/20/21

Comments: Solid jackhammer alternative if that's all your fish are seeing. Doesn't vibrate as hard as a jackhammer but that's not a bad thing. Always good to switch up bladed jig vibrations in pressured water to trigger a bite.

From: Zachary: IN 4/12/21

Comments: Pretty good jig. Most of.the eyes came off before they even got wet though for some reason so disappointing feature for an otherwise decent jig

From: J.A 3/14/21

Comments: I have fished the Thunder Cricket while my fishing partner was beside me fishing a Jackhammer in the same color wit the same trailer (Zako). We had days that the Thunder Cricket caught more and bigger fish as well as days when the Jackhammer caught more and bigger fish. I will say that we remove the skirts from both and replace them with custom skirts that I make because both brands have skirt issues and we want our baits to look a little different than our competition on tournament day. The Thunder Cricket has a faster and softer vibration that is comparable to a Jackhammer Stealth Blade where the original Jackhammer has a hard and slower thump. When the fish are aggressive I think the Jackhammer has the edge but if the fish are highly pressured or if you are fishing used water  then I give the edge to the Thunder Cricket. Both have their place on the water and both are bass catching machines. I have both in the boat at all times and let the fish tell me which one they prefer on that day.

From: Chris: S.IL 12/23/20

Comments:  First time throwing a chatter bait I got 4 fish landed 2 the other 2 shook me off at the side of my kayak. I see people saying the skirt doesn't do anything I swimmed it Next to me and the skirt was moving pretty good imo. The hook is NASTY.  I got these for 5 dollars a piece at my local academy on Clearance. If you can find these cheaper they are worth it. I got the 4 fish in the bluegill color on a 3.8 keitech silver flash minnow with the tail cut. Throwing on the edge of grass while sun was setting. Full moon 12lb assassin. 7'3 med hvy intenza Curado dc 7.4.1 Tight lines fellas.

From: Dan: GA  10/1/20

Comments: Wanted to try the Thunder Cricket to compare it to the Jackhammer.  Lure is well constructed.  Skirt is thin by design.  Keeper on hook is good.  Love the hook.  The only issue is it doesn't catch fish like a Jackhammer.

From: Coach: Shell Knob 7/12/20

Comments: I haven't fished it but two short trips, one to a pond, and one to a lake. Both trips I only had a few bites, but I hooked and landed every bite. Skirt does suck, but with a cut in half pen, bent piece of bailing wire, and some skirt tabs you can fix that problem. What you're paying for here is the short strong hook and a thin blade that moves farther away from the point on hook-set. The design and execution seems first class

From: Trey: Fisherville, TN 6/13/20

Comments: Biggest problem these lures have is the poor quality skirt. It doesnt do anything but stick to the trailer, period.

From: John: Cornettsville 3/18/20

Comments: First impression, ehh.. Not bad. Just don't expect quality like being hand-tied. Monsterbass had a ridiculous deal, where I got it for $10 w// some Strike King crankbaits and soft plastic. This jig is worth it, but Monsterbass isn't.

From: Unknown: 3/5/20

Comments: I was excited to see another bladed swim jig on the market (z-man still owns the patent) they must have figured out a deal of some sort. I like the compact size, overall quality and colors. I always hand tie all my skirts when I buy tackle with bands so this wasn't a deal breaker. The one thing I noticed is that if you put a trailer on... and it pulls to much drag it'll prevent the jig from doing its thing. Hence I like it because it makes you bite down your swim bait trailers etc. Its has a tendency to catch wood occasionally when it rolls. Overall the quality fish I pull out with it, I'll keep on buying them.

From: Dom: Pennsylvania 1/16/20

Comments: So, I am a huge Jackhammer fan but am always looking for new offerings in the bladed jig market. Needless to say, I was looking forward to The Strike King Thunder Cricket hitting the market. As soon as they hit the shelves, I grabbed a black and blue and a green pumpkin. I have paired them with different trailers to include the rage bug, rage craw and Yamamoto Zako; and all of them have been successful. It does not thump as hard as the Jackhammer BUT, I have noticed that that is not necessarily a bad thing because I have literally thrown it directly after a Jackhammer in the same location and gotten bitten!  I believe that fish are sometime not as aggressive and want and softer rhythm. So, pros are: the Owner Jungle hook is straight up nasty! This thing will hook em...the keeper is good and the paint jobs are really nice. Cons: Skirts seem a little cheap for the price, and I caught 7 nice largemouth on one and the eye came off!  I have caught hundreds on the Jackhammer and never once lost an eye. All in all, I like the Thunder Cricket and have been pretty successful with them, I just think it needs a couple of upgrades and I will line my box with them. Until then, hands down, the Jackhammer has the majority vote.

From: Unknown: South Carolina 10/30/19

Comments: Never tried a jack hammer but wish I spent the extra couple bucks. The skirt for this bait is awful for the price and an eye fell out after only two fish. The bait never hit rocks or a dock was only fished snapping through grass. Maybe the eye is just my luck but for the skirt that comes with it and the price, any zman would be better (except the OCB). I wanted to like this but it's not 14 dollar quality at all.

From: Jake: Burton, MI 8/1/19

Comments: Going to sound crazy but my first cast with a white 1/2oz Thunder Cricket landed me a 5lb largemouth that absolutely crushed it from under a dock. They work better than most other bladed jigs. Not quite as good as a jackhammer but for the price difference I'll stick with the Thunder Cricket.

From: Glenn: Kingsport, TN 6/17/19

Comments: Spend the extra couple of bucks for a Jackhammer . It doesn't vibrate like the Jackhammer , the skirt isn't hand tied and it doesn't catch fish like a Jackhammer . Don't want to sound like a Jackhammer salesman but the things straight up work

From: fisherman 64: Alabama 5/13/19

Comments: Super fast blade that starts as soon as you turn the handle. Only downfall I've noticed is when. Using a glass rod (7'4" heavy tatula) and  I don't get very good hook penetration. Prolly 60% hook:land ratio.seems like most of the fish Ive lost I had to set the hook to my off-hand side. So maybe it's user error

From: Tate: Lufkin 4/27/19

Comments: My first impressions are very positive.  The bait seems to have a quality build much like the Jack Hammer.  The vibration is slightly different and a little more finessey.  I'll add more of these to arsenal for sure.

From: Rick: Phoenix, Maryland 4/24/19

Comments: I personally love the Thunder Cricket over all other chatterbaits, even the ZMan Jackhammer. The hook on this chatterbait is superior to the competition. The hook has a slick coating that helps penetrate better. The fish hook themselves. Also, where the blade attaches to the head of the chatterbait, the connecting metal loop is free to move up and down, and it is not locked in at an angle. I'm assuming this lets the bait adjust to your speed of retrieval in any depth of water. The bait keeper on this chatterbait is fantastic as well. I have had this bait for 2 weeks and the Bluegill and White Chartruese patterns have caught me some nice prespawn bass. I personally think the hook and the head design make this chatterbait better than the rest.

From: Ryan: NJ  4/18/19

Comments: Have had some luck with these in the past couple weeks. Fished with a Kietech Swing Impact fat on the back, the bluegill color has performed quite well. Every now and again the vibration stops and you'll have to clap the rod back quickly to get it to move again, but that also seems to draw strikes sometimes. Wouldn't say it beats the jackhammer, but it definitely fishes better than an original chatterbait in my opinion.

From: Unknown: Michigan 4/11/19

Comments: The thunder cricket has a tighter more subtle vibration. Seems well made and the hook is sticky sharp. I've caught several fish on it and my only complaint is the skirt. It's rather "thin" and constantly balls up and sticks all over the trailer (I use a zako).

From: Unknown 4/9/19

Comments: As soon as it was available I made my purchase and couldnt wait for delivery. Choose the bluegill color and on my first trip out I caught 4 fish weighing almost 14 lbs total. Needless to say I love it. Zman elaztic On the back is the juice for trailer. Very much like the Jackhammer but with 1 wire baitkeeper instead of 2. But the keeper is farther down the shaft. Says screw in bait keeper but is just a raised and grooved segment at head.

From: John North: 4/7/19

Comments: Pretty nice chatterbait. Blades starts almost immediately, has a pretty stout sharp hook. I preordered mine for $10.99, but now they are listed for $13.99. Personally at that price I'd just upgrade to the jackhammer which has a heavier blade and better build quality.  That being said this is still a good jig for the price in my opinion.

From: Shaun: New Hampshire 3/31/19

Comments: The Thunder Cricket is awesome. It is designed like the jackhammer with better paint, a more durable skirt, and a few bucks cheaper. The blade starts vibrating as soon as you start the retrieve and continues to vibrate at low and fast retrieve speeds. The bait stays down in the strike zone and doesn't rise in the water column like some of the other chatterbaits out there. The first time to the lake I caught 8 large mouth over 18 inches and a 5 pounder. This is by far the best chatterbait I've ever thrown and worth the extra money over the cheaper baits.

From: Unknown 3/28/19

Comments: OK, let's just dive right in.  This is Strike Kings best attempt to mimic the Jackhammer.  For a couple bucks less its not half bad.  Nearly identical head, keeper and blade as the Jackhammer.  Throwing it side by side with the Jackhammer the Cricket doesn't seem to thump quite as fast and sometimes takes a second to start up whereas the Jackhammer starts vibrating hard immediately, every time.  The other big issue I see is the skirt keeper is totally inadequate.  I caught several fish on it the first time out and the skirt was pulled down on one.  The skirt keeper is small and rounded so I could see this being an ongoing issue. Some dont like the hand tied skirt of the Hammer because It doesn't allow you to change skirts but honestly if they're not hitting white, green pumpkin or black/blue, then they're not hitting.  For a couple bucks less than the Jackhammer it's ok but I'll stick to the Z-man/Evergreen offering for now.

From: Hydrilla Gorilla: Lake Seminole, GA  3/24/19

Comments: The blade on these are super thin and bendy, I really hope they don't bend out from being too flimsy. Great skirt and good colors to pick from also.
