Overview

These versatile rods are tuned specifically to handle light line presentations. Designed with fast tips, these rods excel at everything from vertical dropshot presentations to launching split shot rigs or fishing shaky heads in shallow water around tough structure. The Max Spinning Rods are sensitive and forgiving enough to detect the softest deep water bites, yet offer a surprising butt section that allows you to confidently fight big fish.

The Max Spinning series have the perfect combination of finesse and power. Long lengths enable you to pick up more line which is critical for a solid hook set in deep water. The Powell fast actions are perfect for that angler who likes to wait a little longer for the rod to load up. The Extra-Fast actions are an excellent choice for anglers who like the rod to load up quickly.

Comments: I purchased the 7 ft. Light Powell Max Spinning rods last year and have grown to love it. However, I do not use it for its stated purpose as a drop shot and split shot rod. Instead, I have found it to be an excellent rod for small crankbaits, like the Shad Rap 04, Strike King Pro Mini 3, and other mini-cranks. You can make exceptionally long casts with these light weight lures provided you use light weight line. Also, its tip is flexible enough not to rip the small treble hooks from the mouths of bass, while the lower portion of the rod has enough backbone to control fish when fighting them to the boat. Since all the so-called cranking rods I have seen are designed for heavier lures, this rod is a great find for this purpose.

Comments: love my powell max spinning rods. wanted to order a few more but they've discontinued all but two models! Doesn't make sense!

Comments: the 702 is a dropshoting dream to fish. Never really used a variety of rods for dropshot but I really like this rod for that application. It has a nice soft tip to play big fish but enough backbone to have control. I would highly recommend this rod.

From: Harry: Erie, PA

Comments: These rods ARE the best rods I have ever owned. They re similar to a Dobyns Rod but these have more sensitivity. Powell you guys make fishing not fishing but catching. I can feel every little bump, tap, rocks, tree and weed bed. I am in love with these rods and own just a few of them. I would strongly recommend any bass fisherman to buy these rods you will not be disappointed.

Comments: The 703 is too stiff for accurate casting.  Great for larger baits and larger fish but much more rod then I expected based on the desription.  The blank is the same as the 703 casting which is a great medium casting rod.  The 702 has a flexible tip but the same backbone.

Comments: I just received the 703 M.  This thing is light with a perfect back bone for setting the hook, have it paired with a stradic 2500, perfect set up. This rod has the hook keeper above the foregrip, on the top side, so different then the one in picture.

Comments: The 704 is a great all-around spinning rod.  I have used it for finesse plastic as light as 1/16oz and jerkbaits up to 1/2 oz with great results.  Only complaint is the awkward hookeeper location on the split grip but otherwise lightweight, sensitive, and strong!

From: John: Livonia, MI

Comments: I 100% agree with Mike from Aurora, IL.  I use the 702 for drop-shotting.  Not only is it sensitive, but you can get great hooksets in deep water.  It has the perfect amount of flex in the tip for fighting fish the right way, but enough power to be in control.  I have caught several big 5 lb. LMB and big smallies  on it without any problems.

From: Sam: Boston, MA

Comments: All I can say is WOW. The 704 works wonders. Throwing small topwaters to fishing a shakey head its good all round. I have this one and a bait casting rod. Thinking of switching nothing but POWELL RODS.

From: Mike: Norman Park, GA

Comments: I just can't say enough about Powell. I use the 6'8 for all my dropshotting, wacky worming, and light jigging. For 140 bucks you WILL NOT find a more crisp and sensitive blank. I use to think Kistler was the real deal, but no I'm a very satisfied Powell customer.

From: Mark: Spokane, MA

Comments: Value for the dollar of Powell rods is unsurpassed by any rod manufacturer.  I especially appreciate the shorter rod handles when I'm fishing from my inflatable, and I believe the 702 is probably the finest drop shot rod on the market today irregardless of price.
