Previous Feedback

Comments: Fishing for Salmon here in Idaho with fast high spring runoff. 25 lbs test works great for 8 to 15 lbs salmon. Handled the strongest fish I've caught this year easily. Glad I made the purchase. Thanks Tackle Warehouse!

From: Tim: 6/29/23

Comments: As I live in southeast Texas, I'm using my Curado 300 with 40 pound Pline for big blue catfish, bull reds, and alligator gar. I couldn't be more pleased with its power, drag, smoothness of everything, far casts, and durability.

From: David: Highlands Texas USA 6/24/23

Comments: This 300k may not be for all anglers out there but for me personally, I really like it. It holds a lot of 50lb test braided Spiderwire and is really smooth casting as well as retrieving too. I mainly bought this to pair it with my heavy plus action Zodius rod and wow what a combo for larger baits and hopefully large fish like striped bass and hybrids. This reel paired with the heavy plus Zodius rod is one brute feeling combo for sure. It was fairly expensive but totally worth it. Even with 50lb braid on it, I can cast around 50 yards all day long with a 3 oz gizzard shad swim bait. It's surprisingly awesome to cast with and where it reels back slower to me, it's perfect for me to fish those big slow swim baits. I'm going to get a little crazy with it soon and I'm going to use a 40lb test fluorocarbon leader to the braid and run a Carolina rig on there with a large egg sinker and try live lake shad on it for stripers. That will test this reel for sure if I hook into a 40 or more pound striper! Even if I strip the gears out on it, whatever, I'm happy with my purchase. I'm loaded up for monster fish now and can't wait to put this combo through its paces. Wish me luck and good luck to everyone who buys this reel wanting a "cable and winch" feeling reel.

From: Corey: Kingsport, Tn. 6/24/23

Comments: As many of the others have already stated bought for swimbaits and it simply delivers. Holds plenty line and has more distance than I expected.

From: Kenny C: Charleston, SC 3/4/23

Comments: Great smooth power reel at a fair price. Excellent for larger swim baits and glidebaits. Has the muscle to pull hawgs out of the thick stuff.

From: John: Florida 2/28/23

Comments: In typical Shimano fashion. The reel is solid, smooth, and even though I've had it for a brief time. It seems extremely reliable. Compared with other brands, the price seems very fair and I would recommend any of the Curado family of reels.

From: Neal: New Port Richey, FL 2/5/23

Comments: Bought the Curado 300K specifically for throwing 4 to 8oz glide/swim baits. Very happy with this reel. You can launch those heavy baits without fear of hearing your gears grind.

From: Bryan: Texas 1/1/23

Comments: Bought the hg.Nice big reel for throwing huge swimbaits. Paired it up 20lb sunline flouro & a drt varial handle 110mm. Not sure why the stock handle knobs have no bearings? Instead they use plastic bushing packed with grease

From: Ben: Unknown 7/27/22

Comments: I have 3 of these for swimbaits and use them just about every time I go out. Never had any issues with them. Holds plenty of 20-25lb line, strong drag, smooth and seems to be built to last. I broke them down and cleaned the factory grease out (came way over greased), and re-lubed them straight off the bat and I've never had any issues with casting distance. Would highly recommend for big bait or power fishing applications

From: Tom: Texas 5/25/22

Comments: Curado 300k, what a nice affordable medium sized bass reel. Shimano has ergonomically engineered a large capacity spool on a relatively small frame. 25lb rated carbon drag and time proven mechanical centrifugal breaking work great for larger bass lures. Add the option of a slower gear ratio which is a relief with such a large diameter spool. What a great reel for fishing larger lines and baits effortlessly. If you prefer magnets, use a daiwa, but there is a reason to use centrifugal breaks, they simply work and require minimal maintenance!

From: Chris: Unknown 3/15/22

Comments: Bought this to fish 8xd and 10xd crank baits in 4.7:1. Paired it with a Lewis 8xd casting rod. Very smooth casting. Perfect retrieve speed. Disappointed it has the old VBS braking, not the newer adjustable on the fly system in the 200 curado. But overall happy with purchase.

From: Dave: Idaho 2/19/22

Comments: This reel is an absolute beast. Don't sleep on the 4.7 for your A-Rig and soft swimbaits applications. Was in-between a Daiwa and this guy but I'm glad I went Shimano.

From: Grant: Austin, TX 2/15/22

Comments: This is a great reel for the price. I've been using it since release and have zero complaints. I paired it with a Dobyns Champion swimbait rod. The reel is very smooth and cast 25lb flouro no problem. Already landed multiple 5lb largemouth on it. Definitely have no complaints and the pair is very light considering.

From: Jed: Unknown 12/21/21

Comments: So far Im am very satisfied with this reel. It is silky smooth on the retrieve. Holds plenty line. But this reel is just a little bit smaller than the older E series, which I like. Still same size spool. Whick makes the reel more ergonomic. And this reel still has the older style 6 pin centrifugal brake which is a huge advantage. I think the 6 pin is far better cast control because you can fine tune it compared to the new 4 weight hinged design. This reel will not dissapoint. Good buy!

From: Aubrey: Winnfield, LA 10/27/21

Comments: Love my Curado K, was looking for a big bait reel and for the price thought I'd give it a shot. So far it's been amazing. Casts big swimbaits and wakebaits a mile and is unbelievably smooth. Holds a ton of 65# braid. Drag seems good, but havent had anything over about 3.5 pounds yet.

From: Chris: South Lake Tahoe, CA 10/25/21

Comments: great product. I have always been a fan of shimano reels. great reels never have any issues cast after cast

From: Robert: Riverbank 9/29/21

Comments: My first 300 series reel. Nice feel! Very palm able and extremely smooth. This will make my swim bait rod much easier and comfortable to use as apposed to my old round reel.

From: Tony: Austin, TX 6/29/21

Comments: Can't say much yet, I've only taken it out for an afternoon of practice casting with my musky/pike setup. Throwing lures of between 1.5 and 3 ounces, it works very well. Good long casts, TONS of power on the retrieve, no issues with bird nests after a little tweaking of the tension knob, and it picks up line fast enough to be able to work glide and jerk baits properly without taking too long to get slack out. I have it spooled with 50lb. Berkley X5, and mounted on a St. Croix Premier 7 foot m/h Musky rod. Still just initial impressions, can't say anything too definitive, but this thing seems like a perfect matchup for this rod. Makes pulling big cranks and spinnerbaits effortless, too. Definitely worth the $200, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if I needed it.

From: Ryan: Western Wisconsin 4/17/21

Comments: Diehard Shimano fan for 50 years! Since Shimano hasn't made the Curado 201DC in a < 5:1 ratio, I decided to try 301 4.7:1 ratio. I knew it was noticeably heavier, but it matches up well with my 8' Powell deep crankin' rods. It brought the balancing point back closer to the reel.

From: Brent: Arroyo Grande, CA 3/13/21

Comments: I'm a long time Shimano user but this is the first time to try the 300K.  Purchased it to throw an A-rig, what an awesome reel!  It worked flawlessly, holds a ton of line and you can really sling that A-rig.  Try one, you won't be disappointed

From: Brent: Jasper, TX 2/19/21

Comments: Awesome reel .. built like a tank .. only fellas fellas DONT shy away from the 4.7 gear ratio .. because your Spool is much bigger & deeper your line retrieve is much faster then what your thinking .. honestly the 4.7 should be their fastest selling reel ... anything faster and your burning line in fast ..

From: Dean: Las Vegas 2/16/21

Comments: First time buying/owning this reel. So far I'm impressed with it. Do how big it is it does feel compact and comfortable to fish with. Has a deep spool for a lot of line. I use this reel for for swimbaits in the 1-3 oz range. This reel feels smooth and feels and looks very durable. I'm definitely impressed.

From: John: California 2/9/21

Comments: disappointed in this reel. With all the technogoly Shimano has, they went backwards with this reel. Seems like a reel that should have came out 5 years ago. It's only 80$ cheaper then a tranx but its not even close to the same lvl. They could have made this Curado so good but its not even better then the old one.

From: Unknown: Minnesota 2/1/21

Comments: The reel feels beefier overall and the other reviews do a great job hitting main points but I am borderline considering returning this reek because of the terrible braking system on it. Like a previous reviewer said, the brakes pop off when you attempt to adjust them. Don't even think about making an adjustment on the water I would be so angry when, not if, the brake mechanism falls in the water.

From: Shawn: Chicago, IL 1/21/21

Comments: I was not impressed, Shimano seems to be behind when it comes to heavy bass rigs, big swimbaits, arigs etc. There's no need to make a physically larger reel to cast heavier lures. Other baitcaster companies have been able to manufacture reels the same size as 150/200s that can handle heavy lures. It's time for shimano to get on board.

From: Brad: Kingsport, TN 1/16/21

Comments: Always been a fan of Shimano reels I've been really happy with all my 200k reels I just got the 300 k to throw Swimbait's with and it's money feels much better than the old 300 in my hands I paired it with a I rod gen 3 junior swim you will not be disappointed!

From: John: Ventura, CA 1/9/21

Comments: Works as advertised purchased for large swimbaits and am happy with it so far but it has only been a month!

From: John: Dallas, GA 1/4/21

Comments: I've got a different opinion from the other people reviewing this reel - I bought two of these and returned them a day later.  All I needed was a few hours on the lake to realize this wasn't the reel for me.  It's like Shimano purposely cut corners with this reel to keep the price point well under the Tranx - and the result is a cheap feeling reel.  The braking system is terrible - taking off the side plate is a chore, and the brakes are very very difficult to pop up into the "engaged" position. Twice I had them pop completely off, and fall onto the floor of the boat.  These are shaped differently than the brake hats on the old Curado 300 (green sparkle years) - those ones engaged and disengaged easily and were a pleasure to use. If you are solely trying to find a swimbait/bigbait/deepcrank reel and price is your #1 concern, then this might be a good fit for you.  But if you are expecting the same refinement you've come to love from the other curados, you may be disappointed - I know I was.

From: Matt D: Bloomfield, NJ 12/31/20

Comments: The Curado 300 is a beast! It's a Man's Man fishing reel. You'll have to hold one to appreciate its perfect size for throwing Swinbaits & big glide baits... you'll have to cast one to appreciate the mind trickery liquid, silky, soft retrieval this beast has in store for you you'll not expect. This real has amazing tight specs.. much like it's younger brother the K.. only upsized without the Tonya truck feel of many 300 & 400 size reels . I've a few 300s & ain't none of them feel, cast & control your larger tackle like the shimano 300.. highly recommend.

From: Ross: Lake Mead, NV 12/30/20

Comments: Not had this reel very long but the time I've had it I'm very impressed with it. So impressed I have already purchased a third on very solid, strong drag, love them. And by the way I really put them to the test.

From: Larry: Southshore, KY 12/25/20

Comments: My shortest review ever - not much is needed said with this one - same reel as the K only bigger / stronger .. typical shimano high quality .. swimbait reel that will last a few decades if taken care of . Highly recommend

From: Dean: Las Vegas 12/12/20

Comments: By far the best large class reel I used or owned. I've own(ed) Tranx 300, 400, Kapstan 300, Lexa for Musky & big bass fishing. I sold off all my Tranx after receiving and casting the Curado 300. Casting distance is way better than the Tranx which is dismal even after tuning. Fit and finish is best in class. Shimano knocked it out of the park on this one. I still really like my Kapstan 300 FWIW.
