A strong reel that is built for big bassLike a finely made firearm, this reel is very well built. You can feel the quality as you hold it in your hand. I’ve landed multiple double digit bass on this reel and I never felt “out gunned” while fighting any of these monsters. This reel is precision tuned to handle many different situations. Created for versatility, you can put lighter line on it and fish plastics or even put 25 pound test on it like I do and pitch jigs. As far as 200 size reels go, the Daiwa Tatula 200 may be one of the best reels ever made.

Great reelsI will eventually have one of these on every rod I own. Great reels, easy to adjust, easy to take apart and clean. Every woman that reads this needs to buy their significant other at least 2 of them.

Daiwa Tatula 200 Casting ReelThe Tatula 200 is my workhorse reel. I have it my frog rod, swimsuit rod and jig rod it's strong, the higher line capacity with heavier lines is great, the drag is stout and super smooth. The large handle is very comfortable. Like all my Tatulas it casts like a dream.

Previous Feedback

Comments: Solid reel. Can't ask for much more. This is my fourth Tatula. The 200 is a great all-around size. Throwing everything from Deps 145, 175's, Gan Craft 178s, 6th Sense Trace, and A rigs. Powerful dragon. No complaints here.

From: JayDeck: SoCal 2/20/23

Comments: Excellent value for the price. Very smooth and seems to be solid choice for bigger baits. So far, no complaints and I will always look at Daiwa reels first. Glad I chose this reel and will be buying more to upgrade some older Lews reels I have.

From: Jack: Arizona 2/11/23

Comments: Bought one for my bigger swim baits such as 6" & 8" Mag Drafts, Vatalion, and Gantarel. Liked it so much that I bought 2 more which I use for Carolina rigging and an additional big swimbait setup. Follow the directions on reel tension instructions to enhance performance. Very happy with all three reels.

From: Gary: Vancouver, WA 10/11/22

Comments: I have had this reel for a few weeks now and so far have been impressed by its performance. One thing to note is that I am neither an experienced angler when it comes to baitcasters nor do I have experience with high end tackle. That out of the way, this reel is by far the smoothest reel I have gotten my hands on! It casts everything I have used it for from light frogs to small glidebaits -- I would not say well for anything sub 3/8th oz, but that would likely change with a different rod. I currently use it on a Shimano Curado heavy mainly for small swimbaits and glidebaits.

From: Joshua: Tennessee 9/11/22

Comments: Bought this reel for frogging and it's everything I was hoping for and more! Buttery smooth casting and can launch baits a mile. The slightly over sized handle has been great for getting fish out of thick mats and holds up better to the stress of frogging than other handles I've used on other reel brands.

From: Jeremy : LaCrosse, WI 6/15/22

Comments: Bought this reel for my swimbait set up. Great line capacity, casts really smooth. First diawa reel and I'm sold. Will definitely be buying more.

From: Kasey: Texas 5/17/22

Comments: The daiwa 200 is my go to for flipping and pitching heave T-rigs and 1/2 ounce jigs heave cover with 25 pound floro it's dangerous combination never disappointed with daiwa

From: James: Winnsboro, TX 4/27/22

Comments: First experience with Daiwa and this reel has made me a believer in Daiwa products. Excellent casting distance and very smooth on the retrieve. Purchased this for large glide baits and swimbaits. Absolutely love the overall performance of this reel. Only time will tell on durability. Just ordered the Tatula CT.

From: Unknown: Hickory, NC 2/21/22

Comments: Daiwa really blew my mind with this reels performance! It's smooth and powerful reel and reduces the fatigue when tossing large cranks or mid size swimbaits. It feels solid in my hand and still palmable.

From: Art: Fresno, CA 2/20/22

Comments: I've got 2 of these reels, cast forever, feel smooth and plenty of power to crank deep diving crankbaits. Probably my favorite reel of the tatulas

From: Justin: Farmersville, TX 12/16/21

Comments: I purchased one of these earlier in the year as a dedicated deep cranking and magnum squarebill reel. I have it on a Phenix X-14 composite cranking rod. I have experimented with lots of options for this kind of combo, and I can't imagine something better. Like my Tatula CT, long casts are a breeze. Everything about the quality of life here is nice. Retrieve and drag are smooth, easy to dial in the brakes for bait changes when needed, and it's a pretty simple reel to do basic service on yourself. A pitfall to many reels like this is a handle that is too small. In general I like them to be on the long side, at 100 mm I feel no need to replace it. Even cranking 6th Sense C25s, 10 XDs, Z-Boss 25s, 8.0s, or whatever your favorite giant crankbait is, you can do it all day with this reel on the right rod without feeling beat up later. I'm in the process of converting all of my baitcasters to Daiwas.

From: Ralph: Richmond, KY 10/28/21

Comments: There is not much you can say about diawa tatula except for it is awesome! Very smooth easy to dial in and drag is great! I use the 200 for smaller swimbaits and flipping!

From: Jay: Belleville,IL 9/30/21

Comments: Works so good I've bought two. Cast your lure a great distance with minimum effort, good for covering lots of water area when fishing from the bank, holds plenty of line, smooth retrieve action, large retrieve handle, very smooth drag and super to adjust magbrake system when switching between lures of different weight.
I highly recommend this reel.

From: Brian: San Diego, CA 8/26/21

Comments: I got this reel when my local tackle shop was out of Abu Garcia Revo's in the gear ratio/retrieve I was looking for, and WOW am I blown away. I set the external brakes on 12 and with a few adjustments of the spool tensioner, this thing fires frogs a mile! The T-Wing system seems to have gotten smoother since the earlier Tatulas, no issues yet. And I am learning to LOVE the handle design! It feels so natural in my finger tips. Still have yet to yank a 5 lber out of the weeds, but this reel has handled every fish I've caught so far. Got it paired with a 7'7" Phenix Feather with 65 lb J-braid. Such a dreamy frog setup. This is my 4th Daiwa reel (I also have 2 rods), so I guess you can consider me a Daiwa guy now.

From: Hayden: Folsom, CA 8/2/21

Comments: I really enjoy using the Daiwa Tatula reels,I own several, the 200  is probably my favorite of he series, the extra line capacity, smooth as silk from the first cast, the way it fits my hand, and how it balances out on the rod. If you are looking ,go ahead ,make the purchase, you will not be disappointed

From: Unknown 7/14/21

Comments: This reel is the fourth Tatula I've purchased. Each a different model for different rods and baits. Like the other three, this 200 series is a fantastic bait cast reel. Easy to set up, comfortable in the palm, light weight, and will cast super smooth for a distance with an assortment of weights. If cared for properly, I plan on keeping this with the others on deck for the long haul. This reel is a great choice and most importantly affordable.

From: Unknown: San Antonio 6/25/21

Comments: So far this reel from first impression looks and feels sold which after further testing it is. Some of the pros of this reel are the smooth, long, and accurate casting this reel offers as well as a solid retrieve with plenty of power to horse in almost all saltwater bass species and of course all freshwater bass as well. This real can in my opinion be use a one of ur smaller swimbait reels if paired with a rod to match. Cons would have to be only two things for me first is the handle I personally am not a fan of the style of knobs used but at the same time I know some love them. Second issue is the TWing system and that is because depending on how you hold the reel your finger my get in the way of the narrow level wind and pop the line out of place. Although once I noticed that i was able to adjust my grip and I haven't had a issue with that. All in all sick reel definitely would recommend and it would score 7.5/10 from me.

From: Alex: California 6/21/21

Comments: Spooled mine with 30lb braid and a 20lb flouro leader for 1-2oz baits. Casts a mile and is very smooth. Holds a ton of line for later in the summer when I'm deep cranking and long lining baits in ultra clear water at the Wachusett and Quabbin Reservoir.

From: Ken: MA 4/5/21

Comments: I recently bought this reel to pair with my 7'3" Shimano Expride for throwing glide baits and a-rigs and Carolina rigs. I used 65lb Seaguar Smackdown braid with a 25lb Seaguar Fluro leader. Man does this thing throw them. Smooth, quiet cast, heavy drag, plenty of power, and a nice big handle. Weight is not that bad. It balances out the lightness of the Expride good. I will definitely purchase the 100 series and up from now on.

From: Norio:  Brownsville, PA 3/22/21

Comments: I bought this reel to pair on my 8' swimbait rod and it is perfect. Extremely smooth, handles big baits, big line and big fish with ease. Very impressed and makes my Lews feel like a zebco. Highly recommend this reel.

From: Dan: Central Illinois  3/17/21

Comments: Tatula casting reels are great value for the money. The 200 HS hold a large amount of line making it ideal for heavier applications. You won't be disappointed.

From: Jimbo: Texas 3/14/21

Comments: I have alot of confidence with this reel. Its a beast. I use it for swimbaits and it cast very well. No slop in the handle even after a hard year. Ill continue to beat this reel for awhile.

From: Unknown: New Jersey 2/9/21

Comments: Really enjoy this reel. Been throwing a-rigs and swimbaits with it and it's been a workhorse for me. The t-wing can be a bit of a pain if your running braid to leader but in no way is it so bad that it's a deal breaker.

From: Jerod - 11/28/20

Comments: I was looking to step up from my Tatula HDcustom 150HL-TW reel (JDM) reel. I came across the Tatula 200HL and made the move. Upon receiving it, I noticed it was almost identical to the Tatula HDcustom JDM model. After some research the Tatula 200 shares the same 150 frame as the HD model. In fact, except for cosmetics and the drag, they are the same reel. On the one hand it's a good value at $169. The problem I have is Daiwa selling a 200 size reel in 150 size clothing.

From: Scott: Japan 11/26/20

Comments: A really versatile and well built reel. I picked one up about 6 months ago for a smaller glide bait setup. I threw some 65lb SS V2 on with a leader and put the reel to work. It handles big baits really well and a lot better than my old Curado K did. It's got a metal worm gear (unlike the Curado) and it's got a ton of torque with the oversized handle and the big gears. It also has a good drag system on it, if needed. With that being said, I wouldn't throw anything over 4oz on it. It's great for those smaller Glide Baits and Beast Hook baits, and from my experience it will last much longer than the Curado K's.

From:
Isaac: Salt Lake City, UT 11/23/20

Comments:Very good reel for the price. Appreciate the spool capacity, able to get more than enough heavy braid on it (80lb)to fish it comfortably and it casts it very very well. And again, for the price, very solid and very comfortable to fish.

From: Unknown - San Diego, CA 10/16/20

Comments: Bought to throw swimbaits, love the deeper spool and larger handle. Handles everything I've thrown at it. Will be buying more to throw on my swimbait rods.

From: Derek: Virginia 10/1/20

Comments:The 200 is my deep cranking reel and matched well with my Dobyns 805 cb glass. Long casts are effortless and that 200mm handle is power.Very impressive performance.

From: Dink - 8/18/20

Comments: Bought this reel because of the stated line capacity. At 12/250-16/185, that would put this reel in between a Lexa 300 and a 400. The 300 holds 14/190. Not even closeNot sure where Daiwa is getting these numbers, but several of their reels have been misrepresented in this way recently. Just a heads up for guys looking to run heavy mono that need that capacity

From: Snail: Noblesville 5/17/20

Comments:This reel is awesome. Hands down. I have always fished Shimano reels but this reel caught my eye. I put it on my jig rod. This is legitimately one of the best reels I have ever used. It's a pretty good sized reel with it being a 200 size, but it fit perfectly in my hands. And I personally think the retrieval on it is amazing. Smooth as it can be. Casting is great, don't have to worry about backlashes. Long story short, amazing reel. Awesome price, can't wait to put this reel on all of my rods.

From:Unknown: Nolin Lake, KY 5/9/20

Comments:I purchased this reel for use with umbrella rigs. The bearings are so smooth and the T guide produces no line drag at all. I can pitch the rig for what feels like a mile and haven't had an issue with backlash at all. The drag is amazing and will handle a striper with ease. I highly recommend this reel, well worth the investment.

From: Clinton M: Pinewood, SC 4/11/20

Comments:I've always used shimano reels but I needed a reel for my MH swimbait setup and pulled the trigger on this reel. I have been beyond impressed with it and within 5 hours of it arriving I caught a 5.89 northern strain and the reel handled it with ease! Great real I highly recommend it.

From: Ronin: Delaware 3/21/20

Comments:This reel is great for heavier applications. I catch snakeheads on this reel and it handles them without any issues. It isn't the smoothest reel, however it casts great and handles big fish. If you are looking for a mid-class reel that will hold up even in the harshest conditions for freshwater, this reel is it!

From: J: Lake Worth, FL 3/14/20

Comments: So I was searching for a casting reel that I could use so I could start throwing bigger swimbaits in the 1-4 oz range and stumbled upon this tatula 200. Now I've never owned or even held a daiwa reel before but let me tell you when I first held it I was amazed on the weight and how comfortable and form fitting it was for my hands. The one feature I like the most is you can flick the spool release up to lock it for certain techniques. But I don't use it much since I'm throwing bigger swimbaits. You can easily adjust everything from braking to drag and spool tension. This reel can cast those bigger baits like a dream and the amount of control you have with the reel is amazing. I'm a fan of shimano and 13 fishing, but using this reel made me a fan of daiwa. So if you looking for a great swimbait feel without a hefty price tag then this is a reel for you. This reel has enough line capacity on it so you'll never have to worry about those big fish pulling away from you and taking a bunch of line. But because of the big spool I would definitely spool it up with your favorite braid and use your favorite leader because if you plan to change out the line on the spool you'll end up digging into your pockets to purchase new line.

From: Dalton: Iowa 2/25/20

Comments:I purchased this reel after much investigation and deliberation because I am just getting into glide baits and it was one of the higher line capacity modern reels at a reasonable price. Well to my surprise it turns out to be the best casting reel I have ever used... better than the four other famous brands I use, some of which are double the price. I am casting s-waver 200s and 8" Savage Gear Glide swimmers which are at or a bit above the lure weight rating of my GLoomis 4 power swim bait rod. With the spool tension at zero and the mag break at one half of maximum, casting is a dream.... long, arcing, beautiful casts with no backlashes. (just don't lose contact with the spool on the backcast which I found to be surprisingly easy with these heavy lures!). I am so thrilled with the Tatula 200. It will be for sure my next purchase when I "graduate" to a 6 power rod and 6oz lures.

From: Frank: Poughkeepsie, NY 10/24/19

Comments: One of my favorite reels. I've caught everything from 7-8 pound bass in heavy cover to 30+ inch redfish in the salt. the only problem I have is that this reel gets a little bit noisy. for example when you reel it has a weird clicking noise I've tried oiling it but nothing fixed it but besides that it is well worth your money especially for its price

From: Jeffrey: Orange Park 10/12/19

Comments:Best reel if you're looking for bang for your buck! Excellent quality that's for sure. I paired it up with Diawa's 7'4 heavy frog rod, 50 lb braid, and I honestly couldn't be happier! I'm a diehard Shimano man, but this rod & reel combo has definitely changed the game for me! If you don't have this reel in your arsenal you are truly missing out. The rod has the sensitivity we're all looking for in a heavy frog rod and the backbone to tow a boat. The reel has everything you could ever ask for in a fishing reel and more. I love my Shimano products and wouldn't trade them for anything, but Shimano better step your game up because Diawa is the future of fishing that's for sure.

From:Mac Collins: Tuscon, AZ 7/19/19

Comments:I was an Abu fan for a long time till last year I started trying other companies. I got my first Daiwa along with 2 other companies and was extremely impressed with the performance of the Daiwa. I ordered the Tatula 200 a few months ago for my frog rod and it has performed flawlessly. Casts amazingly smooth and far with lighter hollow bodies. Sends soft plastics frogs as far as you dare cast them. I am slowly changing out all of my reels for Daiwa's. These are worth every penny of your hard earned money.
