Castaics are by far, the best swimbait there is. I use them to fish in Canada and have had great success with them. I originally used the big one but found it to be too tough to cast on a med-heavy rod, so I now use the middle size, 6" or 8", and they work great. Fantastic/realistic action in calm or choppy water, moving not more than 6" to a foot below surface, based on retrieval speed. They are easy to work over weed beds and through and around reeds. What’s so great about these, is to get to see the fish strike, which really makes the fishing fun. I highly recommend these to anyone, who enjoys catching bigger fish.

The Platinum series are quality baits with several features and a couple of presentation capabilities, which I have found to trigger trophy size large mouth bass strikes. I experience a moderate amount of large (8lb and larger) bass that simply follow the bait. With slack in the line you can simply apply the traditional jerk bait method and the bait will turn and face the fish, which I have found to trigger several quality fish to strike. The slow sinking feature applied on the out side edge of heavy wood cover has sometimes brought fish out to my strike zone. The bait has been most productive in cooler water conditions, pre-spawn, and Fall to early Winter patterns. I like the magnet feature but would like to see durability improved. The magnets enable hooks to be less exposed and less visible to fish. The plastic is durable enough to enable a lot of fish to be caught with some care. I feel the bait has too much of a serpentine swimming motion. I would definitely like to see the bait with a tighter swimming motion.

The bait swims radically! I have placed it next to freshly stocked trout in a lake, and it is hard to tell the difference! I have only managed fish up to six pounds on them, but I got started late in the swimbait season. Wait till next year!

Comments:
I have fished Castaic swimbaits extensively, and have found them to be very durable and effective for catching bass in clear water. My home waters are in Illinois, they don't provide as much opportunity as say California waters, where the swimbait craze started, but I have found the bait to be an offering larger leery fish may have not seen. I have noticed some short bites and missed hook ups. A suggestion might be a trailer hook that would not hinder the perfect action of the bait. Another suggestion would be lighter weighted options in the bait for shallow water applications. I have found in lakes with less depth that the heavier weight has forced me to speed up my retrieve in certain applications. Overall look, performance, durability, and "fishability" is superior to many similar baits on the market.
