Overview

Representative of the entire Phenix Crankbait Casting Rod Series, the X10 model was a recent recipient of the coveted TackleTour.com Editor's Choice Award for a Crankbait rod. The X10 impressed the Editors at TackleTour with its high level of performance, great price point and versatility. Combining the best of old and new, the Phenix Crankbait Series is constructed with high modulus graphite and carbon fibers, flowing seamlessly into a fiberglass tip.

The forgiving fiberglass tip can absorb strikes and still keep the fish pinned, while the high modulus graphite and carbon fibers provide plenty of backbone. The rod's lightweight might be deceiving, but rest assured the backbone holds solid for bigger bass while the tip dances back and forth absorbing every dive and head turn with ease. The Phenix Crankbait Casting Rods are perfect for tossing deep divers, lipless cranks and speedtraps and when necessary can even double as a decent spinnerbait stick. Utilizing only Fuji components, a Fuji reel seat and Fuji Alconite guides, you not only get maximum value but maximum quality as well.

Comments: The X14 is probably the best rod for throwing magnum deep divers you can buy without going custom. The butt section is a good length, and it's comfortable to fish. I have thrown 6XDs, 10XDs, Azuma ZBoss 25s, Duo G87 20As, and Rapala DT 16s/20s. The rod feels like it was designed with all of these different baits in mind. Its lure rating of 1/2 - 3 oz is accurate. It never feels overloaded with any of those 2-2.5 oz baits at all. It is also really good for bomb casting with medium divers like Duo M65 11As and Rapala DT 10s when you want to keep them in the strike zone longer or try to get some extra depth out of them. If you think this rod is something you need, just go ahead and jump on it.

Comments: I have the x10 and about to purchase a 2nd x 10. Thi rod is amazing, I've used about 5 other brands of squarebill rods and the x10 throws it the best, really good tip for the trebble hooks and has a lot of backbone power with big fish. I've caught mutiple 5-8 pounders on this rod and I love this rod. If your thinking about pulling the trigger, do it.

Comments: I have the heavy 7'6/x13. I bought this rod to throw the big 10xd strike king, I don't have a lot of time with this rod, throwing the 10xd isn't to bad I paired it with a 7:3:1 cause I wanted speed so maybe that's why I am still getting a little wore out the rod feels decent at throwing it, the load up for a 2oz bait feels about we're this rod would like to stay for me. The load up on fish is pretty good it kept them pegged as well. The butt section on the x13 felt long enough for me to tuck it while cranking. The one thing I don't like about this rod is the plastic reel ring I'm used to higher end rods that have a better plastic or metal lock ring.

Comments: I have the x10 pair with a Steez A for tight quarter/target casting squarebill fishing. The x10 is such a fun and incredible squarebill rod. Loads well. Easy, accurate & fast target roll, pitch, traditional casting. Even bank fishing it's fun. I start to act like Andy Morgan mowing down a bunch of docks. If you're familiar with the 735cb and looking for something lighter and shorter for certain squarebill situations, I think you'll be thoroughly satisfied. If you're looking to step up to glass from graphite or upgrading from a lower budget glass rod, you're gonna love this rod. PS, it can also handle 3/8 oz total weight spinnerbaits. I wouldn't go any heavier. This is probably stating the obvious, but I wanted to experiment anyways. 3/8 oz chatter plus a trailer weight did not fair well. Lost several fish messing around with chatters on this rod in a pinch.

Comments: I have the X-9 -10 and -11 and I built custom rods on the -12 and -13 blanks. The -9 and -10 are awesome rods: light, sensitive and strong. The reason I went with customs is that the heavier power rods really need longer butt sections on the handles. The handle's too short to tuck the butt under your arm and brace higher pull cranks that way; it's all in your hand. Over the course of a couple of hours tossing a big crank, it will flat wear you out. The X-14 and -15 have handles that better match the length and power of the rod, but TW doesn't stock them. Phenix needs to fix their handle lengths and TW needs to stock the bigger rods in this line. Awesome blanks with good components that could be better executed in the higher powers.

Comments: I have the x-11 paired with a daiwa tatula love the feel. Light strong the tip is alittle soft for the rating but makes it nice for tosing flukes and chatter baits at stripedbass.

Comments: The x-series is tried & proven year after year. I have the x-12 & use it for crankbaits. However, I feel as though the x-13 is better for the LC flash minnow 110, Megabass 110, Duo Realis 110, etc baits. The x-14 is even better if you are looking for a longer rod, especially for the surf or the bays. I can feel the vibration of the action of the lure better on the x-13 than then x-12. IF you are stuck between two powers, go a power up since this series seems to run a bit lighter than they have listed. If you are debating between a x-series & another rod, choose the x-series for Phenix warranty. They have a great warranty & follow through with it!

Comments: X14 is a beast! I got the rod earlier this year and the deep crank bite hasn't taken off yet but I have been using this thing for 5"-6" swimbaits and this rod handles them so well its not funny. Plenty of power for chucking big baits but that awesome front end is forgiving just like you want with treble hook baits. Tackle Warehouse you need to stock the new X14's!

Comments: Bought the X9 and i am absolutly in love!!!!

From: Jason: Southern Cali

Comments: Sweet rod, absolutely worth it!  Got the heavier version, very soft tip, balances nicely with revo winch.  Great for crankin!

From: Jimmy: Chicago

Comments: Fantastic rod! Absolutely love it for everything from square bills to bigger baits like deep Fat Free Shads.

From: P: VA

Comments: Great rod!  The hits just keep on coming from the good folks at Phenix and this rod is no exception.  I have an X10 paired with a Curado 200E5 and it is an absolutely great combo for lighter to average sized crank baits and works great for spinner/chatterbaits as well.  The hybrid design of this rod is brilliantly crafted.

From: Andy: Janesville, WI

Comments:  I have two of the X-12 crankbait rods. These rods work great for small to medium crankbaits, and even DD22's. They are very lite and sensitive. You will not be disappointed!!!!!

From: Darren: Marshall, NC

Comments: I originally purchased the X10 for deep cranking but found it was better suited for square bill and shallow cranks. It is now my favorite cranking and top water rod for poppers. Super light and a surprising amount of back bone when you hook up with big fish! I'm told the X13 is the rod you want for things like DD22s! Time to save some more money.
