Overview
Engineered specifically to accommodate the attributes of braided lines, the Berkley Shock Spinning Rods employ a number of precisely developed technologies that enhance performance, while providing an amazing value. Working to offset the bolstered strength of braid, the Berkley Shock Spinning Rods are offered in a range of slower actions with increased backbone, lessening the possibility of pulled hooks, without sacrificing control.
Built upon a 24-ton, multi-modulus carbon blank construction, the Berkley Shock Spinning Rods boast an innovative Shock Absorbing Tip that helps mitigate braid’s lack of stretch. Fitted with stainless steel guides with titanium oxide inserts, the Berkley Shock Casting Rods resist cracking and line grooving for extended life. Complete with an ergonomic handle design and textured rubber for improved comfort, the Berkley Shock Spinning Rods deliver the performance, innovation, and features needed to fish braided superlines at their full potential.

Comments: wow! I came to the warehouse to specifically replace my Berkley Shock Lightning rod SHS701 medium spinning rod because I broke the tip in a docking incident (my fault). I am stunned by the reel-seat failure reports as I fished with my rod for about 4 years (at least once a week), and caught hundreds of Texas largemouths up to10 pounds using 14# Fireline and fluro leaders. But I looked at the rod pictures here. My rod- handle/ stump had a metal part where the images show the clear plastic. Berkely should be ashamed. This was a sweet stick IMHO.

Comments: Bought this rod 3 months ago and just like the others on here, the collar broke on a hookset today. Up until then, I really liked the rod. Shame on you Berkley for the shoddy engineering.

Comments: Reel seat being plastic broke on small bass retrieve and reel came loose.

Comments: No surprise. When I was shopping for new replacements, I saw the plastic reel seat on these Shock rods and said, half aloud "That's gonna break." Sure enough, every review of this rod is negative and every one says the reel seat broke.

Comments: Same here... the reel seat ring broke when setting the hook on a swim jig! Can't believe Berkley made this the cheapest part of the rod. Attention to details? I THINK NOT...Don't waste the money.

Comments: The reel seat is junk. Poorly engineered. I believe the sun makes the seat's plastic get brittle and deteriorate. I have a stable FULL of old Lightening Rods, some even back to hard use in my 190 years of guiding on FL's Stick Marsh. Never had ANY problem with them. Guess it goes to show that evolution of a product is not always positive. Recommend you stay away from this one.

Comments: I'll add to the negative reviews of the reel keeper snapping. Lasted 6 months. My nephew's lasted 3. Unacceptable given the history of the Lightning Rod's reputation. That said, I love the rod itself....but I have a hose lamp holding on my reel for the time being. I have another previous Shock Series model rod almost 5 years old and zero issues.

Comments: I had the rod for about 2 months and I thought it was a decent rod. Until, the reel seat screw lock snapped and now I cant use it.

Comments: Loved the rod until reel seat broke on hook set. I was using 8 lb mono so I know the hook set was not that hard. Left me with a reel in one hand rod in other. Will not recommend this rod.

Comments: I've been a Berkley customer for many years, so when I saw the shock I wanted to give it a try. I was very disappointed. I've had to replace It three times due to the reel seat breaking when I set the hook on a fish. I contacted Berkely directly and got no response. I would stay away from this one.

Comments: Based on positive experience with past Berkeley rods, my brother and I both were excited to try this new version. We both bought a bait caster and a spinning version of this rod. Out of the six rods we bought between the two of us four of them have had the reel seat break in two while trying to set the hook on average size large mouth. And one of them broke at the same place while being transported to a fishing tournament. I am very disappointed that Berkeley has allowed their quality to diminish this much. I STRONGLY suggest NOT buying this rod.

Comments: REEL SEAT BROKE IN HALF ON A HOOKSET!! I really liked this rod, unfortunately I've only been able to use it a handful of times. When I went to set the hook on a bass this morning the reel broke right off the rod. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. I would not recommend this rod due to the lack of support that the reel seat has.

Comments: UPDATE ... I super liked this rod .. only I missed one very key piece - the screw on cuff reel holder is plastic .. and if you tighten it down a bit much it will split / break in half making the rod itself useless - such a shame - for only $50 I was really liking this rod - it was so nice in so many areas for only $50 . Made the perfect rod to hand to your kids / grandkids - but that plastic reel cuff just ruined it . Shame Berkly would not reinforce this area for only a few dollars more . Sorry - I can no longer recommend this rod in casting or spinning until that cheap plastic screw on reel cuff has been upgraded . Even if you dont over tighten - sunshine will break it down sooner or later --Original Review-- 11/8/18-- I needed a final piece to my arsenal but did not want to spend a bunch . Wow @ this berkley shock rod - I'm super impressed . Guides are lined perfectly / as well as epoxied perfectly - visually pleasing rod with its modern looks - I had forgotten that you really can't go wrong with a berkley - they have been around forever - highly recommend this rod for a buget minded buy - you won't regret this one .
