A Great spinning rod for any finesse techniquI have used this rod, the dx-742 sf ,for years for small swimbaits with heads from 1/8oz. -3/8oz..Shaky heads in these sizes as well . This rod is the real deal for fishing ffs baits as well. This rod has the best balance of tip and power ,so when you hookup with thatne of those big girls , you will have the best chance of landing that fish ! I throw nothing but gamakatsu 604 hooks on all these bait heads. With those hooks, and this rod dx742 sf , the fish you hook you own !

Comments: I bought the 742 to be my dropshot, ned, and wacky rod paired with a JDM Shimano Vanquish and boy is that an amazing combo. Rod is extremely sensitive but can also fight large fish (4+ pound smallies in current have been caught on it). I'll be buying the 743 soon to be medium-power spinning rod of choice.

Comments: What a great rod! I just picked up a 702 for smaller applications like wacky rigs, shakey heads, and a small keitech. The rod is very light compared to my IMX-pros and way more sensitive than my e's. The only thing I didn't like was where they put the hook keeper. I took it out today for the first time and caught a bunch of good sized spotted bass with ease. I was fishing shallow today and am sure this rod will be great fishing deep in the next few months. I plan to get a few more champion extremes in the future.

Comments: First higher end rod I've owned. I have mostly used St croix premiers and mojo. Bought the 702c med light to drop shot more. I've taken it out on a few trips on deep reservoirs and 1 on the river and love it. Super sensitive tip and really solid backbone. I haven't owned a rod that loads like this. Hooked a 3 pound smallie in the river today on my kayak and never felt underpowered even in heavy current. Primarily throw 1/4 and 3/8 pencil weights and rig baits Weedless. Rod has enough power to set the hook on easy reeling hook sets. Doesn't feel under powered with those weights and a 4 inch worm at all. Overall love the rod and would spend the money again.

Comments: Recently bought the 702 for dropshots and neds. I paired it with a Vanford 3000 and spooled it with 15lb Sufix832 and a 8lb tatsu leader. Balance point is right at the reel seat clamp nut. I also have a 732 Champion I was using for dropshots which has been replaced by the 702 now. Champion Ex has a slightly faster tip than the Champion. I got onto a school of 3-5lb smallies and the 702 made them feel like they were 2-3lb'ers. The power/action of this rod is perfect. It has a soft enough tip to keep that mosquito hook pinned in the roof of their mouth but had plenty of backbone where I didn't feel like I was getting dogged out by the high 4 & 5lber and handled them PERFECTLY. Are they the MOST light or MOST sensitive? I cant say because I dont have the experience with the high end GLoomis that most people use as the standard. However, I did not have any issues detecting subtle pickups. Some bites felt like the blank was exploding in my hand and others felt like the wind made the line tick in the eyelets, but if I can feel that, then thats plenty sensitive enough for me. Plus at the $330 price tag, it's unbeatable. I will be purchasing more for neds and tubes.

Comments: It's good, but there's something missing. Let me explain. I have the 742, which apparently gets a lot of attention. It cast fairly well, but it won't perform the best with anything light like 1/8 oz (which is the lowest setting that it claims to rated for). The rod doesn't have a true whipping action and actually acts more stiff when casting. The balance though, is perfect on this rod. The weight, as well, is positively lightweight, which helps when it comes to a long day of fishing or any fishing in that matter. Sensitivity-wise, I looked forward to the rod being exceptional when I first got it but I am disappointed. It's not extremely sensitive for its price point - average at most. I've had the rod for a couple of months now and waited to do a review until I was fairly certain about my opinion on this rod. Like I said, it's good and will do what the average Joe wants but being a dedicated spinning rod guy who likes to use the rod to its fullest potential, I say that there's more that it become.

Comments: I have five Dobyns Champion Extreme HPs in my line-up, the 742, 792, 743, 704 and the 764. I have fished all other high end brands, Loomis NRX, GLX and IMX, Shimano Expride, Daiwa Steez and Abu Garcia Fantasista, and I can without hesitation that everything you want in a rod is present with the Dobyns Champion Extreme HP line of rods. Sensitivity, Power, Light Weight, Balance, Consistency and Build Quality. Yes, you could get a "slightly" more sensitive, or a slightly lighter, rod but you are going to $200 to $300 more and honestly, I am not sure the difference is truly that discernable... This line of rod could be the best value for the money for a quality spinning rod. From drop shot, to Senkos, to Swimbaits, to Tubes, to Jigs, these could be the best spinning rod for the $$.

From: Nick: Orrington 11/9/19

Comments: My 764 Spinning Rod has been fished with a multitude of baits (Senkos, Ikas, topwater, shakey head, lipless crankbaits).  It's a Jack of all trades!  Lots of backbone with a very sensitive tip. Love everything about it except the location of the hook keeper (this only applies to fishermen who crank a spinning reel with their left hand).  The hook keeper was placed in the 10 o'clock position on the rod, which causes your line (braid) to creep up and wrap around the keeper after opening the bail and holding the loose line with your index finger.  So when you're getting ready to put all your energy into making a hard, long cast, and your bait(lure) takes a hard nose dive straight down into the water (the line wrapped over the top of the keeper prevents line from coming off your spool), it's very upsetting.  I'm not saying every time the line will wrap around the hook keeper upon casting, but it's frequent enough to make it a big annoyance!!  The hook keeper should be with in the 6 or 12 o'clock positions on the rod...not the 10 o'clock.  Aside from that, the rod is worth the money because so it can fight big fish, and cast up to 1 ounce lures!!

From: Dan: Long Beach, CA 8/28/19

Comments: Phenomenal line of rods. I picked up the 742 earlier this season based on a few recommendations and reviews. I've used it for live bait rigging walleye on Mille Lacs. Absolutely amazing rod for this application! Light and balanced paired with a Shimano Stradic CI4+ 2500. You can feel the quality of the craftsmanship as soon as its in your hands.  Sensitive tip that loads into a great backbone. Handles 1/2oz bottom bouncers without feeling overloaded.  Ive landed a number of quality 8-10lb walleyes and 5-6lb smallmouth on this setup and it has handled everything with ease. It is worth the investment.

From: Chuck: Minnesota 7/14/19

Comments:  Product: Dobyns Champion Extreme HP Spin Rod 7'6" Med Hvy 764. Durability: Rod tip broke after roughly 5 months of light use. It unexpectedly snapped shortly after landing a fish. Customer Service/Life Time Warranty: Not the most helpful or professional. Short story - they hold you responsible for replacing the rod, but at a reduced fee. All and all it was roughly $110.00 to get a new rod + shipping charges. I suppose that's better than nothing at all. Product Review: I have less expensive rods that out perform this rod in many categories, and haven't broke even after years of use. This rod does have a lot of backbone though! I used it for stripers one time, and it handled a near 20lber in heavy current with ease.

From: Big Bass: Atlanta, GA 5/13/19

Comments: I purchased the DX742 (7'4'ML). Simply outstanding on first impression. The rod is so well balanced, it makes my other rods seem off. I have a Nasci in 3000 size and the rod/reel combo feels weightless in my hand. Planning on using this as an all around finesse rod, 2.8 keitechs, shakeyheads, ned rigs, tubes. The price tag hurts but this rod is worth it.

From: Justin: Colorado Springs, CO 3/5/19

Comments: Holy Cow!  I got my 742 and what a SWEET rod.  The tip is amazing.  It is a nice, light tip that gives way to a lot more backbone than you would expect for the rating.  This rod is gonna be great for drop-shotting and light action baits such as Ned rigs and neko rigs.  Another exceptional product from Dobyns.

From: Coach: Shell Knob 3/4/19

Comments: I recently picked up the 702SF HP as my dedicated dropshot shot. The rod is everything I expected.  The build quality is amazing. Cork was the best I've seen and the apoxy and finish was done expertly.  No slop. Action is spot on and the rod balanced exceptionally well with my Ballistic LT.  I heard a lot of great comments about this model and I see why.

From: Doug: Western WA  4/17/18

Comments: Im a huge fan of dobyns i have several rods the only thing i wish they would offer is an exfast action finesse spinning rod

From: Mike: IS 2/11/18

Comments: I've had a 702SF in the Champion and 703Sf in the Savvy for years now. Needed a rod with the same tip as the 702 Champ but a little more parabolic action. The answer is the 702 SF Extreme HP. I bought to drop shot ffor picky fish in SoCal, but it's proven to be good for a darterhead & smaller tubes as well. Balances best with a 1500/2000 size reel.

From: Chris: Tustin, CA 5/27/16

Comments: I just got the DX743SF. Great rod for the nail weighted senko. Great tip to work the bait but then quickly loads to set the hook.

From: Jeremy: Ripop, CA 1/12/16

Comments: I have the 7'M and it'll definitely double as a shakey head & drop shot rod. Even smaller cranks, if you do that with a spinning rod. Very sharp looking rod & has the NICEST feeling cork ever put on a rod! The DX casting rods also, amazing cork on the handles.
