Comments: Everybody writing about the skipping special, but ima skippy that rod. I'm here to the 7'3" micro jig! First thought, chefs kiss - chefs kiss, so well balanced, for being a tall rod, and so darn COMFY to hold. Love it, kinda on the stiff side though for being a medium. Saw on Bryan Thrift's insta post about this rod and this man said a 1/2 oz (1/2!!!) for his micro jig?! whuaaaatt!? Anyways so far I like the rod (a lot actually) the grips too since they are like a straight cilinder, no taper or anything like that which surprised me since the grips are so nice. Got this bad boy for like 100 dollaroos, but wanted to review here since its only skipping rod guys.

Comments: I bought the skipping rod. I liked the shorter length as I'm about Thrift's height. It's a quality rod and it does the job, but it casts more like a Heavy in many other brands. People talk in the reviews about its accuracy. That's the length not the rod specifically. Put in the work, don't expect miracles with this or any rod. In my opinion there's not enough tip. If you plan on skipping docks all day, plan on throwing a 1/2 ounce minimum. You really have to work to load a 3/8. If I could do it all over, I'd look at something with a slightly softer tip.

Comments: Bought the 6'9" chatterbait model at RedCrest last year. Very disappointed. The components are fine, but this rod is like a broomstick. Too stiff for bladed jigs all the way through the tip. In my opinion, there is way too much handle on a 6'9" rod. Bought the rod cause it had Thrift's name on it and I think he's a real hammer. Obviously, I screwed up with this purchase. This rod will be in the garage sale this spring.

Comments: I purchased the Skipping Special rod to really get into the dock on Norman. The durability so far has been amazing, I have many videos of this rod setting and ripping fish out of brush piles. Doubles amazingly adls a buzzbait rod as well for skipping under docks.

From: Derrick: NC 1/31/21

Comments: Be aware: I purchased the skipping special. It broke on a hook set after about 4 months. There is a ~$80 replacement fee even if under warranty. I have also broken a $140 Lews rod and there was no questions. I called them and they shipped out another with a $20 shipping fee. I have switched to all Lews rods now. Life time replacement sometimes comes with a caveat- you pay their cost. Not much of a warranty in my opinion.

Comments: I recently bought the 6'9 skipping rod, it is deadly accurate with enough power to pull big fish out of heavy cover.

From: John: Lakeland, FL 7/30/20

Comments: Purchased the skipping special and it broke between 2nd/3rd tips on first hookset (2lb bass). This is my first and only Fitzgerald rod so I'm hoping just a bad luck deal. I guess I'll be spending the money to ship it back and try again with a replacement.

From: Nate: Minnesota 6/8/20

Comments: I have the skipping special.  It is a really nice rod for the purpose. It has plenty of backbone and a nice handle design and length. My only gripe is the third guide up from the reel seat is wrapped on crooked. The rest are straight as a ramrod.  By the time I sent it back to Fitzgerald for repair, I'd be out $50 in round trip shipping for what is ultimately cosmetic. Lesson learned, I will have a hard time spending this much on a rod I can't examine first.

Comments: I own 2 Bryan Thrift Rods. The 6'6 MH is by far a killer for all applications. I fish from a yak so length can sometimes be a problem, the 6'6 is perfect for every application in a yak! The action is great and handles fish very well! The 7'2 frog rod is nice as well haven't had as much time as I would like to give a detailed review but it is also a sweet rod! Love Fitz! Keep it up boys!

Comments: Hey Guys , I purchased the Bryan Thrift skipping rod cause it came highly recommended from a club member .  Worth every penny it makes skipping docks so easy and the amount of distance i can get with little to no effort is crazy it' s a game changer for me. Just purchased a few more casting and spinning rods can't wait to test them out I usually don't get to excited about tackle but i was surprised on the distance and quality of this rod for less then 200 $ it's a hell of deal..

Comments: I own three of these rods my favorite is the frog rod. Not only is it fantastic for walking a frog I like to switch reels and throw a football jig or Carolina rig because of the absolutely incredible hook set I can deliver with this rod. I love the 6'6 for throwing jerk baits and shallow cranks and the 6'3 is unbelievable for throwing smaller spooks or poppers. Can't wait to get his new cranking rod!

Comments: Bryan Thrift Frog rod review.  Broke my $109 ancient Daiwa Light and Tough Frog rod after tens of thousands of casts.  Surprised it lasted so long. Looked at just about every mid level "frog" rod out there and finally decided on the Bryan Thrift due to the quality components at an affordable price.  Hate to say i'm a bit less than pleased.  Rod feel, weight and quality is awesome as I expected but the medium heavy is a little on the light side.  I'm used to lifting any size fish with a mouth full of slop right onto the deck and with this I had to lip a 2 pounder for fear of snapping the rod.  The moderate tip is great with increased slingshot casting distance and low skip casts under trees and docks with no effort, but it is a bit more difficult to walk than my fast tips.  I'm sure this should be expected and i'd get the feel down fairly quickly if I kept at it.  Overall rod is great and will make for a nice crankin or spinnerbait setup, but i'm going to need to go with the KLX whic
h was my second choice for my designated frog setup.

Comments: I own the Skipping Special, Crank/Jerkbait, and the Chatterbait rod. I am a Lake Norman local and we have docks all over the lake. I learned how to skip on a 7'MH Veritas and when I switched over to this rod I swear I gained 15+ feet on my skips and significantly increased my accuracy immediately. The rod is very sensitive, but strong enough to really lay the wood to em and get em away from the dock posts. The Chatterbait rod and the Crank/Jerkbait rod have also blown me away and really allow the fish to get the entire bait in their mouth. Chatterbait rod is perfect for any single-hook moving bait and also skips a chatterbait/buzzbait well, and the crank/jerkbait rod is perfect for any treble-hook bait that isn't super heavy. It has more of the tip of a medium action, which gives you more forgiveness when playing fish hooked with trebles. Also casts lighter baits well. The backbone, however, is still there when you need it. Fitzgerald makes a quality product and designed these rods
with one of the best anglers in the world. You can't go wrong here.

Comments: I own (4) of these rods and I love them! Lucky for me, Bryan Thrift is a short guy, which makes these rods perfect for those of us that never broke thru the 6' barrier. The rods just seem to have the proper taper and action for their length. When I first fished with them I thought to myself, this is what I have been looking for! The 6-6 cranking stick is one of my favorites, it's a great rod for moving baits and the 6-9 skipping rod will handle most of your soft plastic and jig needs. Due to the time of year, I haven't been able to really test the 7-2 with a frog but it's ideal for a c-rig and football jig. The 6-9 chatterbait rod is good for chatterbaits but I can almost fish everything in my tackle box with this rod! Rod buying is always subjective... but I would recommend giving these a shot.

From: Hunter - MD 4/27/17

Comments: I just purchased the Bryan Thrift skipping rod and like my other 3 Fitzgerald rods, they are build solid and perform perfectly.

From: Paul: Texas 2/6/17

Comments: The thrift series Rods are awesome. Light, sensitive & tough. The 6'6 mh is my top water Rod & I love it for launching & walking a spook. Also the 6'9 my is great for spinner baits & buzz baits too

From: Chad: USA 6/2/16

Comments: As for the Jerk Rods the parabolic bend in this rod is perfect. Sets up nice & allows for a good, deep, secure hook set! One of my favorite technique specific rods. The chatterbait rod excessed my expectations.  The action is perfect, strong but not overpowering & I can handle a 6+lb monster with confidence.

From: Wes: FL 6/1/16

Comments: I have many of the fitzgerald rods. The thrift series are very light. The sensitivity is amazing and they have great components. 7'2" mh is a fantastic frog rod.
