Overview
Designed by one of the best bass anglers of all time and 4-time Bassmaster Classic champion, Rick Clunn, the Ichikawa Rick Clunn RC King Kong Shad Crankbait is a very large profile squarebill that Rick specifically built to catch big tournament-winning sized bass and to be fished at incredibly high speeds. Offering a large meal because big fish don’t want to expend a lot of energy to satisfy themselves, the Ichikawa Rick Clunn RC King Kong Shad Crankbait features a narrower squarebill than most other squarebills to maintain balance at high speeds, which Rick says is crucial to catching bigger fish. It is also made with a flat head that is inline with the bill to increase hydrodynamics and allow it to dive deeper than most other squarebills.
To create this crankbait Rick Clunn utilized the skilled craftsmanship and Japanese engineering skills of Ichikawa because Rick believes only Japanese lure makers can build a crankbait with such tight tolerances to achieve the quality, durability, and action the way Rick wants it to perform at high speeds. It is also outfitted with razor sharp Kamakiri treble hooks that maintain their sticky sharp points after being fish over heavy cover much longer than most other treble hooks on the market. Available in colors that mimic bigger forage species that trophy bass tend to feed on, the Ichikawa Rick Clunn RC King Kong Shad Crankbait combines Rick’s years of tournament success with Japanese craftsmanship to give anglers the ultimate big fish squarebill crankbait.
"The faster you reel it the better they eat it and the bigger the fish you will catch." – Rick Clunn

Comments: I just got one delivered from TW. It's December so I haven't fished it, yet. It was fun on a snowy day to put it next to some of my original Poe's RC5's from the 1980's. The lures are so much alike and yet so different. You can certainly see the evolution of the same philosophy. The quality of the newbie one is much better. It's appearance is exemplary. The mold lines are very smooth. The hooks are great. The split rings might be the best I've ever seen. Their wires are flattened in cross section to allow for a tight nest. The paint is also as good as the several Megabass or Duo lures I put it next to. The size is large, but the shape masks that. It should attract big fish in cold water while not intimidating any medium sized ones from showing up for lunch. I can't wait to throw it in the spring.
