In 1995, Yuki Ito prototyped the Destroyer of traditional bass rods, drawing upon his hand-carved ARMS to unleash an unrivaled fusion of craft and technological innovation upon the Japanese bass market. Each subsequent generation of Destroyer reached beyond the standards and conventions of their time to establish a new benchmark. Anglers across the country can now get their hands on the latest and most innovative generation of the Destroyer Series, the Megabass Destroyer P5 (JDM) Casting Rods.

The LAIHA program gave birth to a limited concept rod series in 2019, developed to test and refine standard-destroying technologies to push innovation past present limits. From this tireless effort the 5-D Graphite System was born. Representing a paradigm shift in the blank construction process, 5-D enables a more perfect realization of the Destroyer through a new method of patterning and layering unlocking untold potential.

Thus, with each generation, all change—especially destructive—is embraced in the technological pursuit of the angling ideal. Out of this cycle, the Megabass Destroyer P5 (JDM)Casting Rods rise anew to challenge anglers to new heights.

Key Features:

IBCS Minimalistic grip contours and stable short-trigger design allow for intuitive grip transitions as the angler moves through the cycle of casting, rod work, hookset and landing. Blank contact areas are maximized to deliver precise feedback without sacrificing control.

ZALDAIN 3D DYNAMICS PERFORMANCE GRIP Designed with input from B.A.S.S. Elite Series Angler, Chris Zaldain, each hand-formed carbon fiber handle takes shape as if custom made for each angler’s hands providing comfortable contours for enhanced grip and the superior vibration transmission properties of carbon material.

DESTROYER 3D EMBLEM If you look closely, the brand-new Destroyer logo has been renewed. Once again, the new logo was painted by Yuki Ito with his brush refreshing the core philosophy of the series.

End Balancer Weight-saving improvements in blank construction, thread wrapping method reel seat and head locker design result in a lighter rod, which allows for lighter counterweights to achieve the ideal “Takumi” balance for each application.

5-D GRAPHITE SYSTEM Newly developed through the experimental LAIHA project is the 5-D GRAPHITE SYSTEM. As the name implies, this blank construction methodology leverages five prepreg patterns to best address five elements—vertical axis, horizontal axis, oblique axis, elongation, and elasticity—and combines each in a painstaking puzzle matrix to maximize the application-specific performance of every blank. The cohesiveness of each completed puzzle enables a fusion of disparate parts, reducing the unnecessary prepreg overlap of traditional patterning and layering. This not only reduces material waste; it allows for a more precisely smooth taper and seamless load transition for truly intuitive performance. Additionally, to further reduce unnecessary weight and improve performance, it utilizes a special thin-diameter fiber, which allows for tighter, more effective guide wraps to secure the Fuji Titanium frames with SiC-S Inserts. This minimizes any negative impact hard epoxy guide wraps can have on the natural bend-curve of the blank.

HEAD LOCKING SYSTEM 3 Based on the machined-aluminum head-locking structure developed in the LAIHA concept project, the new Destroyer HEAD LOCKING SYSTEM 3 is the lightest of all Destroyer series to-date, minimizing any potential interference in blank resonance and vibration transmission through the reel, in addition to highlighting the purpose-built elegance of each rod model.

Lightest Heavy RodGot a tequila baccarat, for a heavy rod this thing is light and stout. I sent back a Zenon and Fantasista Heavy rods because they didn’t feel light enough for the price. Settled on the TB and am glad I did. Get you one!

Previous Feedback

Comments: I recently received the Tequila Baccarac as a birthday present. I could not be happier with the rod. The versatility of this heavy action rod is incredible. The T of B handles everything from 1/2 ounce baits to 4 ounce small glide baits. The sweet spot for the rod seems to be 1.5 to 3 ounces. The amazing aspect of the T of B is the secondary action of the rod when engaged with a large fish. The rod is all tip until you need some bend during the fight. This secondary action will keep a lot more fish pinned. Besides some nice bass the rod handled a 38" pike easily. If you are considering pulling the trigger on the T of B, do it. This rod is versatile, beautiful and an absolute joy to fish.

From: Scott M: New York 9/9/23

Comments: The X-bites is a fantastic rod for spotted bay bass in SoCal. Super sensitive, ideal for fishing 1/4 to 1/2 jigs + trailer, TX Rigs, 1/4 to 1/2oz free rigs, etc. It's a perfect bottom contact rod.

From: Andrew: San Diego, CA 6/12/23

Comments: Cliffhanger Thrilling is a really fun BFS rod - I use it mainly for stream fishing for trout/bass with the Megabass Karashi and Z-Man micro finesse bait series (1/10oz heads). Also my go-to crappie rod. Amazing sensitivity and castability - gets my bait exactly where I want it every time and I feel the lightest of bites. Not a power stick, but makes 2-pounders feel like the fish of a lifetime.

From: Galen: Virginia 5/30/23

Comments: The Blade may be my favorite (and most versatile) rod I've ever owned. 5/16-7/16oz jigs, spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, t-rigs - does all perfectly. Used it and my NRX 803 yesterday. Equally sensitive, but the Blade is better balanced, casts better, looks better, and is a hundred bucks cheaper. Could probably do 110s and topwater in a pinch. Can’t say enough about it. Also, have the Super Destroyer - would be the perfect jig/flipping rod but for the slick plastic grip. Hate it, but mostly solved by wrapping with rubber grip tape. Still use it because the blank is perfect for these applications, but a little buyers remorse first time out.

From: Galen: Virginia 5/20/23

Comments: Amazing rod! Super happy with it. Very sensitive, accurate, and light. Honestly beautiful to look at as well! Love it!

From: Mike: 2/22/23

Comments: Excellent workmanship, lightness and feedback feels great although I would rate the X Bites as a medium heavy not heavy power. Appreciate the nice individual protective bag that comes with the rod.

From: Unknown: 1/8/23

Comments: These rods are gorgeous in appearance, extremely light, and sensitive. They are very expensive and each angler must decide if they justify the price. I think they do.

From: Kendrix: Orlando Fl 12/26/22

Comments: I purchased the X-Bites recently. I haven't tried it on the water yet, but the first impression is "broken". After you attach a reel to the rod then it doesn't fit the case (sock) anymore because the zip at the bottom is too short. This is not what you expect from this brand and $500 rod in general. By the way I have a couple orochi rods and they don't have such problem, it fits perfectly. Sigh..

From: Yevgen: WA, USA 12/8/22

Comments: I got the X-Bites in spring 2022 and didn't fish it very much this season because I was starting down the big bait wormhole. BUT-I definitely took it out by itself a time or two on the kayak to throw jigs around and learned that this lightweight rod actually made me think I knew what I was doing skipping little jigs and jighead swimbaits around cover. The guides are tiny, and forced me back to straight flouro presentations, and couldn't be happier with that. Getting bit at the end of a long skip with a little jig is a ton of fun. The rod is light enough to feel like 'what the heck will happen on a big fish'... well after quite a few 3+ largie and smallie were easily brought to the yak, I'd just say this rod is ready for even more action. All in all very very fun to fish, paired w Metanium and an SV 103 LTD made for an awful lot of fun the few times I put the big stick down (in favor of actually catching some fish!) I will keep this rod on the yak next season because as much fun as throwing a big bait can be, feeling a bite and reeling in a few fish is really where it's at. Great rod, and reliable and true to form as any other I've owned, probably more considering the 'skip factor' enjoy!

From: Timothy: ME 11/30/22

Comments: Great rod series expensive but I don't regret the purchase extremely light, extremely sensitive and paired with a Daiwa Tatula Elite 8:3:1 completes the package.

From: Justin.D: NY 10/26/22

Comments: Have the OneTen. Was very skeptical because of the length, but it is a superb rod. I have four dedicated jerkbait rods prerigged, all high end. This is equal to or better than all of them. If I could only have one, then this would likely be my choice.

From: San Juan : 8/11/22

Comments: I've a stupid amount of high end rods - rolling eyes - but this super destroyer I bought over a year ago is by far my fav rod to work with .. it throws lures extremely accurate .. yes that's due to 6'9 .. but even more amazing is that it does so many lures so well .. jerk bait to jigs all fish landed .. just an excellent rod .. paired w/ an aldebaron

From: Ross : Las Vegas 7/8/22

Comments: I've had my TB since the first of February. I bought the rod for the same reason I bought the Super Destroyer, close quarters pitching and running bank. I use each rod depending on cover at hand. The SD is a 6 power 6'9" heavy fast 1/4 - 1 1/4. 12 - 25#. The TB is a 7 power 7' X heavy fast 3/4 - 4. 12 - 30#. As I've stated in my previous reviews Magabass is way to aggressive on lure specs. The SD I wouldn't use anything over 5/8. The TB 1 1/2 is the limit ( in my opinion ). One thing I didn't realize until I received my TB is even though the SD is 6'9" and the TB is 7', the useable part of the rod ( from the lockdown nut to the tiptop ) is the same length 5'6'. The extra length on the TB is in the handle. Had I known this I wouldn't have bought both. So save yourself the money and buy the one that you feel you need. Now all that said the rods are extremely sensitive and light. The buil d quality is typical Megabass - impeccable. Hope y'all find this information useful. Good fishing and tight lines!

From: Troy: Tyler, TX 4/18/22

Comments: Been using the xbites for awhile now, if you throw 3/8th oz jigs often get this rod you won't be disappointed. By far the most sensitive rod I've ever had in my hands. I always find myself picking this up off the deck. It definitely has a softer tip than most jig rods so don't be mislead by the rating. This rod handles lighter spinnerbaits and chatterbaits no problem it has enough tip to keep fish pinned on those single hook moving applications. But anything 5/8th oz and under bottom contact wise this is my go to. If you got the payroll give it a shot you'll be happy.

From: Unknown: 4/16/22

Comments: I've had my super destroyer for about two months now. I bought the rod for close quarters pitching and running bank. As I said in my x-bites review they are way too aggressive on their lure specs as all rod manufacturers are. The SD is given a heavy rating. 1/4 - 1 1/4 I would give it a heavy med heavy rating. 1/4 - 3/4 The balance is about like the X-bites, close but not quite. ( at the lockdown nut ). The rod is very sensitive and very good at light to med duty. The length of the rod makes it very good at close quarters pitching. I can see where this rod can be very versatile, skipping jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, ect. I just received my Tequila Baccarac so I'll give a review on it in a few months.

From: Troy: Tyler, TX 2/13/22

Comments: I've had my x bites for about two months now and I'm very impressed overall. I have other high end rods to compare to and it measures up. I've got Loomis, St Croix, Kistler, Edge ( Gary Loomis - North Fork Composites ), Leviathan, ect... and there isn't much by the seat difference. My only complaint if you want to call it that is Taku Ito took lengths to balance the rod but not quite. It balances at the lockdown nut. Wish it was balanced in the center of the reel handle then it doesn't matter what reel you use. Its still better than most rods. Next complaint is on all rod manufacturers. They're way to aggressive on the lure specifications. For instance the x bites is listed as 1/4 to 1oz. There's no way I would use 1oz on this rod, it would explode in your hands on a cast. By the rod if you cast jigs or texas rigs you won't be disappointed.

From: Troy: Tyler, TX 12/26/21

Comments: I finally received my Super Destroyer and I love it. I was concerned about the grip but it has not been an issue. Rod is perfectly balanced and super sensitive. I was feeling the lightest bites. It is very stout which is surprising considering how light it is. There is zero tip weight. My new favorite rod. Megabass does not fail to produce excellence.

From: Tom: California 12/23/21

Comments: I have 3 of these rods. The madbull, x-bites, and the tequilla baccarac. Honestly, these are the best rods I have ever used!!! They are extremely light and is a work horse! I also have the conquest and the NRX rods but I always find myself using my 3 destroyers rods instead.. They're just that damn good! Trust me, you will not be disappointed!!!

From: Tommy: Wisconsin 9/1/21

Comments: I now have 3 different megabass p5 rods, I can't say anything that I don't like about any of them... super destroyer, is well balanced in power and flexibility...the killer code loads deep into the blank making it difficult for a fish to throw the bait, and the Baccarac is a beast. They are all sensitive, light weight, and beautiful rods

From: Randy: Unknown 8/15/21

Comments: I bought the Deep Sleeper rod. Very nice rod. Well balanced and very sensitive. Cool lock nut with slots for hooks. One thing to know is the trigger is very small. About half the size of other rods. I thought it would be an issue but it hasn't been. Takes a little to get used to though. Over all. Great rod

From: Tom: California 6/17/21

Comments: The Super Destroyer immediately became my favorite all purpose rod.  While I mostly throw jerk baits this works well with plastics, cranks and other lures.  Fishing off a float tube the shorter length is much easier to cast than some of the longer rods out there. Like others have posted, also have other high end rods and this rod is exceptional even among them.  Paired with a Metanium reel, it's stupid easy to cast.

From: Jim: Colorado Springs, CO 6/15/21

Comments: I have fished my X-Bites now for about a month. I have caught several bass on it from 1.5-4lbs. I own a 893 NRX which has been noted as the most sensitive rod Loomis makes. To me the X-bites is the new standard for sensitivity and no longer the NRX. The sensitivity of this rod is off the charts. The rod itself is truly a work of art. If you're paying $500 for a rod I feel they should all look pleasing to the eye like this one does. The rod is so light and well balanced it literally feels like you're holding nothing. When I went to set the hook the first few times using this rod I honestly felt that it would snap in half it's so light but I never has. I use mine mainly for t-rigs with 1/4oz tungsten and rage bugs, craws and similar creature baits. It works perfect with that setup. I tried throwing a zoom magnum speed worm with 1/4 tungsten and I felt like I was overloading the rod. I'm not a jig thrower so I can't comment on how it does with it. The power rating is suppose to be a heavy. That is one thing I feel they got wrong. It's truly a MH for sure. If you want a super, super, super sensitive rod don't hesitate to buy it. This is my first Megabass rod.  It won't be my last.

Updated:
The mad bull is the second megabass rod I've ever owned. My first was an xbites which I absolutely love. See review below. Overall this rod is very impressive but I feel that you could save half the money and buy a dobyns  if you are looking for a reaction bait rod. I've used it for 1.5 megabass square bills and it's done great so don't get me wrong the rod is fantastic at what it's intended for. The overall quality and finish are top tier without a doubt. I feel that is what you are paying for. If I could do it over again I would have bought a tachyon shaft over this rod for bottom contact applications. The X-bites is off the charts in sensitivity. So I assume the tachyon shaft would be too. Overall this mad bull is a great rod for reaction baits.

From: Ricky: Arkansas 5/16/21 Updated: 5/24/21

Comments: Bought the Super Destroyer for a pitchin/worming rod, my Gen 1 Shimano Cumara (6'8" MH XF) was getting up there in age (still going good though). I like the shorter rods when pitchin in tight places. Never thought I'd pay $500 for a rod but wanted to see what the Hype was about. It has been great! I've landed bass up to 5lbs pitchin and a couple 30"+ (10lb) redfish in brackish water with no problem. I have mine paired with a heavier reel than most use, a Shimano Scorpion Quickfire (have 4 for my worm/jig set-ups). Its a 8.5oz reel but on the rod the balance point is right at the reel seat locking nut, which makes feel like its floating in hand. Loads well when pitchin plastics (beavers) with 1/8-1/4oz weights which has improved my distance and accuracy when pitchin lighter baits. Debating on getting the P5 Hein for saltwater speckled trout fishing with plastics. Needs to have a fast but soft tip with backbone.

From: Chad: Alvin, TX 4/28/21

Comments: Great rod that is well balanced for throwing small to medium crankbaits.

From: LaMont: Virginia 4/2/21

Comments: Had to write a review for this rod. Have the Super Destroyer and its the most beautiful rod ive ever seen. I also own Loomis Conquests, NRX's and Posion Adrenas and this rod is seriously on another level. Sensitivity is on par with NRX/Conquest and is just as light. The carbon grips are gorgeous and have a sticky grip to them which is nice, but if your hands are wet they can get a little slippery. The Super Destroyer has multiple actions and is just a great all around rod. The very tip has a medium action feel, another foot down Medium heavy, further down Medium heavy +. I wouldnt say this rod excels at any one technique. Ive thrown 1/2oz jigs, topwater, Xraps etc. and it handles all of them very well. The rod overall is just perfectly made, no flaws. This rod is heading for legendary status. Can't Wait to get a Madbull!

From: Jim: Minnesota 2/12/21

Comments: I purchased the 6'9" super destroyer and paired it with an Alderbaren. I have exprides which I love, and poison adrena too. However, the JDM super destroyer is by far the best rod I've personally fished. So light and the sensitivity is off the charts. Can't wait to get an x-bites too.

From: Erik: Kauai, HI 12/20/20

Comments: I have most high end rods - Xtasy - NRX  - poison edrena etc ... but there is something truly special about these rods and the craftsmanship that goes into them - I bought the 6'9 super destroyer and wow what a rod - weighs 4.5 oz ( NRX equal ) put an aldebaron on mine - the whole thing weighs just under 10iz ... holding it one would think a high end jerk bait rod - but no - this light weight monster is meant to slam jig hooks home with ease - it's a perfect fast tip whith a great back bone - you can truly fish this rod with about any lure - it's hard to explain but trust me it just does it . I love my extasy &NRX .. but this P5 is on another level .. that 5D wrapping seems to give the strength of iron only it's so freaking light . And of course the typical JDM visual eye candy is nice .. the 6'9 super destroyer is not a 1 trick pony rod .. use it for mutual & will be hard for you to put down .. casting distance? No .. spot on Accuracy ? Yes Highly recommend these rods - more so the super destroyer .. don't let the 6'9. Fool you - this rod is a beast that weighs nothing !

From: Dean: Las Vegas, NV 11/17/20

Comments: Have the madbullandit's a beautiful rod. The Zaldain 3D dynamics performance grip is a work of art. Even though it's solid it feels soft in your hand. Have not had the opportunity to fish it more then once or twice, but no complaints so far.

From: Dave: 11/21/20

Comments: These rods are Megabass' crown jewels for the price. Lightest rods I have ever felt in my life, and I have tried dang near every brands highest end series and these take the cake without question. I picked up the X-Bites and Madbull, the X-Bites is THEE best finesse jig rod out there IMO, I will be shelfing my NRX 853...yeah it's that good. The reel seat on these P5s are so comfortable, especially paired with a Steez or Aldebaran, its game over. The Madbull is one of the most beautiful, baddest, and impressive reaction bait rods I've ever bought. Squarebills, med-diving cranks, spooks, ploppers, poppers, chatter & spinnerbaits and the list goes on. Heck, if you like a more parabolic action rod for jigs the madbull has enough sensitivity to get the job done even though it's not what it's designed for. I currently have a Steez SV TW on the XBites and an Aldebaran 50 on the Madbull and both combos are not only laughably lightweight, but super balanced also. I'm going to be selling some NRXs, Steez AGS, and Poison Adrenas to get some more P5s, they are miles ahead of the Orochi XX and USA Destroyers also. I really would like to see some longer length rods in the spinning P5s but we'll see with time. I have a Wind Buster on the way to compare to my Addermine USA Destroyer. If you're willing to shell out the cash, buy one of these rods ASAP!!!!!

Comments: I've owned two rods in the P5 series - the X-Bites and the Dark Sleeper. Both rods feel almost fake since they are so lightweight!- Xbites - one of the best jig rods I have ever fished. The sensitivity and balance on this rod are second to none. My go-to rod for throwing 5/16th and 3/8th jigs like the Beast Coast Hustler.Great rod for those size jigs. Also works well with a 1/2oz.These are the sweet spots for this rod IMO.I wouldn't use this rod for throwing big 3/4oz football heads in 30 FOW - just not stout enough for it. -Dark Sleeper - very unique action on this rod, and if you throw the dark sleeper or light Carolina rigs, this is a great rod for you.It has a very soft action throughout alot of the rod, but when it loads up it has plenty of power. Not a rod I liked for vertical presentations like hopping a jig, but for baits that you fish horizontallylike the sleeper and C-rig, this rod really is sweet. My only knock on the megabass rods is that for the price, i'd like to see a higher quality cork.Compare the high end Megabass cork to the Dobyns Xtasy cork, and its just no competition.

Comments:This rod is absolutely awesome! I never dreamed I would ever pay $500 for a rod but after putting it to use, IMO, it worth every penny. It's the absolute lightest rod I have ever laid hands on. The quality and finish is top notch. Very satisfied with my purchase.
