Great StuffI’ve tried lots of braided lines looking for the best one. Some didn’t hold color well and/or began fraying prematurely. Some didn’t handle very well. The Hydra 8 has been awesome. Don’t see or hear much about it. Seems highly underrated to me.

"Top of the line" braidGreat braid. Tough, smooth, casts great with spinning or casting gear and holds color doesn't fade nearly as fast as the competition. I use it plugging for stripers in the surf and inshore fishing for halibut and stripers. 350 yd spool make it a good deal compared to 300yds from the others.

Awesome BraidI have a large spoon that I've had for several years now. I use the braid for flippin, punching, top water and frogging. The 8 carrier is super smooth and I've never broken off a fish with the 65lb test, event in super heavy cover. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is the color fades , not sure if there's a fix for that. I use a sharpe and just black out a few feet, other than that I'm super happy.

best braid on the marketAfter many issues with power pro and J-braid I gave phenix a chance and now its my go-to. The first thing I noticed is it has a good weight to it, my j-braid was too silky and was useless in any wind. The abrasion resistance of this line is ridiculous, i've landed fish after fish with very noticeable frays and have never had a break-off. In the beginning it's a bit more textured but as some of the excess colors wears off it becomes smooth and casts extremely far, it still retains a strong green color just loses the extra green dust that stains your fingers easy. I run braid to leader using an FG knot and the texture of this braid snugly holds the mono without ever cutting through it. Overall this is the best braid on the market (my opinion) and for the lowest cost I've seen for the spool sizes.

Great braid that under the radarThis is an excellent braid overall and my current favorite without having to spend YGK X8 Upgrade money...I see why Tackletour rated it as "great". I use the 30lb + leader on my Steez A HLC paired with a custom MHX CB907 for just about anything moving/open hooks from 5/8-1.25 oz...chatters, lipless, topwaters, buzzbaits, wakes, bigger cranks, and it performs excellent. The 10lb is very thin, uniform, excellent body consistency (it does need to be broken in, but will do so after a full outing), the coating produces slick casts and is quiet, and has proven to be very strong as well. I have this line + leader on my Daiwa BLX 6'10" ML Limber + Daiwa Procyon AL LT 2500 for anything open hook from 1/8-1/2. From curly tail grubs to poppers, balsa cranks, lipless, 3/16 ball head + 2.8" soft paddletails/swimbaits, beetle spins, inlines, blade baits. Don't sleep on this line, it's every bit worth considering as 832, Tuf-line Domin8, X9, Asegai, and even YGK X8 Upgrade...just go by diameter.

Comments: Having fished braided line since they first came out, I have to say this is the best braid on the market by far! Super strong and smooth off the reel. Cast like a dream. Doesn't fade near as quickly as all the other braids I've tried. And punching with the 65lb is as strong as punching with other brands 80lb. I will not be switching back. Sorry jbraid.

Comments: I've tried many braids over my years and I eventually respool with powerpro... until hydra 8. I've fished hydra 8 for about 2 months in san diego bay and I haven't had one break (even on 25lb angel sharks). It is susceptible to wind knots on spinning gear just like all other braids. The color stays on long, its very smooth, and has resisted fraying very well. Most importantly it doesn't dig into the spool (indicative of 8 carrier braids), which allows me to fish it on my baitcasters. Only other 8 carrier braid that compares to powerpro in quality, but at a more affordable price. This line is also smoother and supple the powerpro superslick. I have now respooled most of my baitcasters and spinning gear with Hydra 8 because of the performance and price point.

Comments: All I can say is WOW!! I finally got my hands on some 40lb Phenix braid. I used it for a Chatterbait and Jig. This line is the best Braid I have ever used. Super smooth and quite, cast great!! It seems to have really good color retention after 2 months of use. I love that you get more yards per spool, their 350 yard spool cost that of everyone else's 300yard spool. So I was easily able to spool 2 reels. I works a Jig all day in the rock and wood of the Delta and not one fray or line break. I'm definitely a fan and will be giving there 65 a go Punching and their 20lb on my Spin reels. Phenix knocked it out of the park with this one!

Comments: This is some of the best braid that I have tried. I use all braid to leader for all my setups except for some that I just run stratify braid and haven't had this line fail yet. Ties great knots and has not fraid neither like suffix or power pro has for me. Really thin too, casts a mile and is very quite because of how smooth it is. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try. Awesome product.
