Great braid if you know how to use itIt amazes me on all the bad reviews about fishing line. With that being said, this to me is the best braid I have used in 50 and 65lb. I love the 50 for throwing my topwaters. I use 65 for jigs and swimbaits. As long as you can tie a good knot, you should not have any issues even if you backlash.

Comments: Not really one to write reviews on products, but after my experience today with the 65# braid today, I felt it was worth a mention. Fishing smallmouth in a heavy laden rock structure of river when I hooked into a muskie. Briefly had me wrapped around a rock until I was able to position my kayak and get free from the line pinched in the rock. After landing and successfully releasing the fish I went and checked my line. Heavily frayed in the area of line that was wrapped on the rock, but still held. Love this line and probably won't use another braid from here on out.

Comments: My #1 go to Braid for Years !!! I am surprised to see any negative responses here? I have been using Maxcuatro (MC) for years. (the MC is just short for Maxcuatro) I only use #20 & #30 versions, for fresh, surf and inshore fishing. No other line matches the benefit of MC's thinness, strength, and abrasion resistance. Not to mention 25% more line on your reel and the increased casting ease and distance you get. It is a little more $$ but well worth it My only complaint is that I would like to see more colors :)

From: Matthew: Saint Augustine, FL 6/1/23

Comments: After breaking off a 1/2 Oz Chatterbait and a 1oz whopper plopper on backlashes with new 50# I decided to do an experiment. I have unused Maxcuatro in 30#, 50#, and 65#, so I started testing break strength with a very slow and steady pull on my scale. What I found was disgraceful! The 30# broke at 14, the 50# broke at 18, and the 65# broke at 26. No breaks were knot failures. Out of curiosity I then did a test of 15# super8slick v2. It broke at 16. Then I tested 50# original powerpro and it broke at 28. So, here's the bottom line, always test new braid and return it if it fails by a large margin. This is totally unacceptable for a supposed premium product at an extremely high price.

From: Blake: 8/10/22

Comments: Not a fan of this in 30 lb test. All of the headaches I hear people have with braid I never had myself until I fished this stuff. Tip wraps constantly, never had a wind knot with any other braid. It also doesn't cut through grass very well despite being thin for its breaking strength. Don't recommend.

From: Ralph: Richmond, KY 5/28/22

Comments: I bought this line if the off-season and strung 40lb test it on my SLX, I was able to get about 120yrds (+/-) on the reel. The line casts amazing great distance, little backlash, holds its shape and is very very strong. While half way through the season and I've been out only a handful of times unfortunately. the line holds itâs strength and doesnât coil but not hold its color. The moss green has started to fade fast. I snagged a dock last night and pulled hard on the line and it seemed to stretch the color away. Will pull off the faded line and have to re-rig. Overall 8/10 just wish the color held up a bit longer.

From: John: Michigan 7/22/21

Comments: Without question this is the greatest braid I have ever used, the stuff is tough as nails, has minimal color bleeding even compared to normal power pro, and because of the diameter being smaller can cast a country mile. The coating does wear off making it a bit more supple, but the line still holds shape very well after long term use. There is nothing bad that I can say about this line, and all things considered this line is cheap when you account for the fact that you will likely have it on a reel for upwards of 4-5 years if not more. I have used the 20 lb for finesse (I wish they made 15 with an equivalent diameter to 10), and 80 lb for huge swimbaits. It takes a knot very well, FG, Palomar, beefed up Uni, really anything that's a non slip knot.

From: Morgan: California 6/11/21

Comments: Solid braid in 50 and 80lb. Can't speak for the other sizes. Finally learned a trustworthy braid to leader knot that will cast easily through the guides so I'll be using this line a lot more often now.

From: Ben: 11/8/20

Comments: Not sure why there are any bad reviews.. This stuff is great. Lasts a very long time, I tend to change it out after every season if I have used it a lot. I use 15 on my spinning, 30 on my braid to leader moving baits or Texas rigs, 50 on my frogs, and 65 for punching. I have never had a break off due to the braid on any of my setups. It eventually fades but a sharpie can fix that with ease. Try the superslick if you don't mind paying a little more as well!

Comments:
GREAT improvement Power Pro!!!Not sure what some of the bad reviews are about on losing baits but the 6 rods my clients used for frogs and topwaters in the grass the past 18 months never once lost a bait or broke off.The distance on the cast improved at least 10%.I'm sticking with it for sure.

From: Brian: Texas 9/21/20

Comments: I picked up this braid after watching Tactical Bassin' videos and they sing it's praise. And so do I, after trying 832 and having it bleed, dig-in to the spool and break off casting - it had to go. X4 J-Braid was no better, bleeds to white in a 6 hours sessions, frays and is quite coarse. Made the switch to Maxcuatro and I've never looked back. No fading after the first season, but did start to lose it's color after the 2nd. I frog and jig with 50lb and man does it make the guides sing and 40lb on a reaction set up. I'd step up to 80lb for a dedicated big bait set up. I would recommend going up a lbs size over what you normally use. When it comes to braid knots (always palomar), I also run the braid through the line tie twice so it has something to bite. No need for a double palomar. TBH, not sure why there's so many guys buying x4 carrier braid for their spinning rigs, x8 carrier makes way more sense - smoother casting, more stealth.
TLDR: Expensive, but worth it. Holds up great after 2 season with a little loss of color, zero break-offs, check your knots and hold on. AAA+ braid!

From: Jon: Barrie, Ontario 1/22/20

Comments: Wow. I cant believe all the negative reviews. I bought 4 or 5 spools of the 65# when it came out a few years ago and switched out all the Power Pro Slick 8 that I had on my frog and flippin rods with the attraction that it was thinner yet stronger. I can say that 2 years later I am confident in my decision. It may not be as slick through the guides as Slick 8, but I believe the wind knots are less, it casts further, it frays less, and it holds its color and shape 10X better and longer than Slick 8 or any other braid I have ever used. I have since bought a dozen spools of various pound test for all my braid applications. I put the 30# on a Diawa 3000 reel paired with a 6'6'' MH St. Croix spinning rod for skipping Senkos under docks and around pads. Without a doubt, it casts further, holds up better and gives me more casting control with a lighter bait than any other line I have ever tried for this application. For me, this line has performed so well very every application that I have used it for that I have switched out over a dozen reels with this line and will continue to buy it. I can honestly say that the only time this line has ever failed was when a 40" musky chewed through the 30# after a 15 minute battle.

From: Big J: Western New York 7/1/19

Comments: I have been a PowerPro user for over 12 years and have had an amazing experience using the original product. When I heard that Shimano released a newer version that was 25% thinner but with the same strength I had to give it a try. It performed a lot better than expected and now I am able to get more yards on a spool than with the Original Power Pro. Sometimes you can make something perfect, BETTER! 40lb on a Stradic for steelhead is a dream for casting and it pulls off the water well for mending during the perfect drift. 65lb on a Shimano Bantam is a match made in heaven when twitching jigs for coho. 80lb on a Tekota or Tranx for large Chinook plug or bobber fishing is great for heavy lifting required to land the big ones. I fish in the Pacific Northwest and it has truly given me an advantage when fishing all the techniques required to be a successful angler.

From: Lael: Seattle, WA 10/13/18

Comments: Been a huge fan of power pro for years. Last year I made the switch to maxcuatro. I'm a tournament guy who LUVS flipp n' & punchin'. I usually go with 50lb for frogs & swim jigs, and 65lb for hitting the " good stuff". I have to be honest, I'm not sure what most of these are talking about. This is my go to line boys n' girls! Will never use anything else. Period. I've landed more big Bass, cashed checks & won lots of Big Bass titles on power pro maxcuatro. My advice might be, make sure you spool it correctly, learn to tie a proper Snell. I never break off, hardly ever lose fish & won't waist my time with any other braid out there. Great stuff power pro, keep it up.

From: Tim: Merrillville, IN 10/2/18

Comments: I've lost over $40 in baits to this junk. I've tried multiple knots thinking that that was it but a that didn't fix anything. Every time I fish with this stuff I watch another bait fly off or break off. I'll never buy this stuff again.

From: Zach: Columbus, WI 6/12/18

Comments: I started using regular Power Pro over 12 years ago, and when Maxcuatro initially came available at Tackle Warehouse a few years ago, I decided to try it because I wanted increased strength without sacrificing casting distance when working around heavy cover. I replaced my 50 pound test PP with 65 Max and my 20 pound test PP with 30 Max for specific applications and only on those reels due to the greater cost. Having used Maxcuatro for nearly 3 years now, I find its only significant differences from regular Power Pro are the advantages I sought in greater strength without increased diameter. I have never had a line break nor a knot slip (I use the double loop Uniknot for line to lure, the Uniknot for line to line, and the Uniknot for snelling hooks).

From: Vince: Tucson 4/6/18

Comments: I bought the 30lb Maxcuatro and spooled a Quantum PT inshore Speed Freak and a Penn Slammer iii 3500. First, the good. It is VERY thin, and VERY strong. It's truly hard to believe how strong it is for the diameter. Now, for the bad. This is the worst "wind knot" braid that I have ever used. And I have used a LOT of braid. I currently run both a Spinfisher V 3500 and 4500 with regular 30lb Powerpro and a Conflict II 3000 with 20lb PowerPro. I also run Suffix 832 on a Pflueger, Orra2 inshore Spinning, and Penn Spinfisher v 3500. And a bunch of baitcasters! The Maxcuatro is the only line that has given me wind knot issues over and over. I even unspooled all the line behind the boat and made sure that it had zero twists. It didn't help a bit. So, I spooled the Slammer III with 832 instead. Haven't had a wind knot since. On the Quantum, I had another issue. The line is quite flat. If you hook a decent size fish (12+ lbs) and have the drag pretty tight, the line will pull into itself. Even after I wet the line and had quite a bit of pressure on it during respooling. I haven't experienced this with other lines, more than likely because they aren't as thin. For the little bit gained in line capacity and casting distance, I don't think it was worth the cost. Purely my opinion, but, it's also my money.

From: Kent: Dallas, TX 3/21/18

Comments: Seems that it's a hit or miss for this line, but for me, it was a the biggest whiff in history. Power Pro Maxcuatro is the worst fishing line I have ever used. 2 things stand out that make it trash. 1. It backlashes like crazy. I've used 3 month old fluorocarbon and it casts better than this trash. No matter what I do I always get little tiny backlashes that get really annoying. All it takes is a flip too short to destroy your spool. Other Power Pro line does not do that on any of my reels. 2. 40lb test breaks off like 6 pound ice fluoro, I've never broken off this many times. Idk why this line sucks so much for so many people but damn 0/10 would not reccomend, I'd rather use dental floss as line than this.

From: Carson: Illinois 1/24/18

Comments: I've been around the block trying different braids from Sufix 832, Sunlie FX/SX, Seaguar smackdown, PP and pp super slick. I finally settled for maxcuatro, I use mostly 20 and 30lbs chasing spotted bay bass, halibut and corvina. This stuff is amazing, small diameter, cast amazing, pretty abrasion resistance, doesn't bleed much, and holds a good knot. People complain about the how it hold a knot like a few reviews down, you need the disregard them. I tie a Tony Pena connection knot and I have yet to see it slip or fail. The some thing you have to do is cinch it down as tight as you can, leave your tag ends a little long and take a lighter to the tag end of the braid to stop it from fraying.

From: Daniel: San Diego 11/23/17

Comments: I spooled up with 65lb Max Cuatro for a recent trip to Falcon Lake. I can say that after this trip, all of my Max Cuatro will be going in the trash. I lost somewhere between $50-60 dollars worth of tungsten and hooks during a three day trip. Broke off while fighting fish, pulling free from snags, and on multiple hooksets. This stuff is terrible. Would break at the knot, and broke 5-10 feet in front of the knot a couple of times. Went and spooled up w regular old 65lb Power Pro (after I ran out of 1/2 and 3/4 ounce tungsten), and never had an issue. This stuff is a recipe for disaster in any tournament. I will not use it ever agin.

From: Brad: Texas 11/6/17

Comments:All those who losse there frogs on this try using something thicker than 30lb it weakens very quickly I have experienced this, works great just make sure to use heavier line for frogging. Nice improvement powerpro.

From: Unknown: Minnesota 11/6/17

Comments: I'm happy with the 20lb on 2500 spinning reel, cast far and super smooth.

From: Adaim: Castaic, CA

Comments: I bought some 20lb and 50lb for my heavy cover spinning setup and frogging setup respectively. This stuff is super thin, casts extremely far, and seems to keep its color really well. Its thin and slick nature makes most knots slip VERY EASILY! BEWARE! I tie a double palomar knot and have NEVER had a breakoff or knot slip.

FRom: Tyler: Missouri 7/27/17

Comments: I have literally lost 4 frogs to this crap. I tie a great knot and it still breaks. Never buying this crap again.Whatever you do don't waste you money on this.

From: Hunter: Springfield, IL 6/1/17

Comments: I ordered the 30lb and hate it, I snapped off four times in one hour, the worst part is that it was only while casting. i have used suffix 832 for years without this problem. I will never buy this braid again.

From: Zack: Huntley 5/31/17

Comments: This is hands down the best braid on the market. I've tried sunline, seguar, suffix and pro spec and this stuff is at the top of the list for sure. I mainly use 20lbs and 30lbs for chasing spirited bay bass and I haven't experienced any bleeding or wind knot. This stuff has a very small diameter and cast like a bullet. If you like quiet braids stay away from this stuff.

From: Daniel: San Diego 5/2/17

Comments:I am a big fan of classic Power Pro, so it pains me to post a negative review about one of their products. In my experience, the dye used on the maxcuatro bleeds like crazy, staining your thumb and dripping all over your gear and boat. To bad too, as the line seems great otherwise. My experience is with the 65#.

From: Mike: Sacramento, CA 4/5/17

Comments:I like fishing for Bull Reds near a Bridge in Grand Isle LA & it never fails, once hooked they always head for the Bridge's pilings & they like to wrap around them & the mono or fluorocarbon lines usually break. I spooled my reels with 80 lb. Power Pro & haven't lost a Bull Red in years, they can wrap around the pilings & I can pull them out with no problems. I also use Power Pro for Speckle Trout, Large Mouth Bass & everything else I fish. This is the best line I've ever used. Just ordered a few spools of the "New" Power Pro Maxcuatro, can't believe it will be smaller in diameter than the Regular power Pro, It's hard to imagine something that small in diameter can be so strong. GREAT JOB

From: Mark: Norco, LA 7/14/16

Comments:I ordered the 150 yd 50lb a while ago and also compared it to the new seagaur smackdown and daiwa samurai braid, outperformed them both! Love the line, haven't lost a single lure or fish due to the line, honestly best line on the market! Just ordered a 500 yd spoil of 50lb as well to fill my rods
