Comments: As said in other reviews Japanese PE "braid" line rating system is different than United States ratings. Go by the line thickness instead of #rating because Japanese ratings are for the actual breaking strength without a knot, unlike United States ratings which involve the knot that greatly reduces line strength. That said this line is hands down the best braided line. It Flys through the guides like no other, knot strength is incredible and abrasion resistance is ok. Sure the color fades but does all the other lines except vicious fishing no-fade braid but that line doesn't handle or cast like ygk upgrade x8.

Comments: line feels great out of the box, but after a half day of fishing color fades and the coating disappears.

Comments: My favorite line for long distance casting. First of all for those who compare American marketed line with Japanese marketed line. Powerpro and Sufix are extremely underrated lines, that is why they are thicker in diameter. For example, 15 lb Suffix 832 actually breaks at 25-30 pounds when tied using complex knots, same thing with original power pro. And Japanese lines are rated at the maximum break strength so when you tie a knot on a 15 pound ygk line it will actually break at around 10-12 pounds. Now back to YGK Upgrade line. I tie it using 12-15 wrap uni knot. I use 25-30 lb YGK line for pier fishing for spanish and bonito and it will cast 3/4 oz lure farther than any other line i have tried, it retains very tight and smooth body and it just flies forever. I almost never have wind knots with it and I have been very surprised how strong the line actually is for its diameter. But it does have poor abrasion resistance because it is made of very thin fibers and has very thin coating.

Comments: When tied to Powerpro 10 lb braid, the 14 lb G-soul breaks first. If 10 lb powerpro is stronger, then I don't see the benefit of using this line. Powerpro 10 lb line diameter is 0.15 mm and you'd have to go to AT LEAST 16 lb G-soul to get the same strength and that has a line diameter of 0.153.

Comments: I normally love fishing Berkley Nanofil and other thin PE braids. So I tried this braid for whipping when I went to hawaii, where I have to make long casts from shore. It does a tremendous job casting (which makes sense given how thin it is), but after 3-4 casts (especially if I whipped it) the line would snap at some weak point. You can't quite avoid it by retying your knots because it sometimes snaps above the leader, above the swivel, even high up. Maybe it's not manufactured as uniform as it could be, but more likely it's just because it's hard to make such thin PE line have even diameter all the way through. The line weight rating for japanese PE like this is, as far as I understand, a measurement of "max" breaking strength whereas american ratings give "average breaking strength" thus these line weight ratings aren't very accurate. The 30lbs g-soul x8 braid felt about as reliable as 6-8lbs nanofil. I'll probably use my 30lbs g-soul to fish for crappie, where I usually use 4lbs nano-fil. I would not recommend using it with any technique where the line will come under repeated shock or heavy weight.

Comments: I love how crazy thin, smooth, and smooth casting this braid is, but if you tie a fluoro/mono leadership can have issues casting. The issue that I always run into on spinning reels (with the 14lb) is that the braid tends to wrap around the guides and itself near the connection knot. There's something about the momentum and how thin/light the braid is that any distortion in the momentum causes the braid to wrap itself around the guides or tie itself up (wind knot). It always happens at the braid section where the connection knot is at (I use a FG knot btw). However, when everything goes well the cast is silky smooth and just flies out there.

Comments: This is the best line for spinning reels, smooth, thin and cast further

From: Unknown - Dana Point, CA 11/19/17

Comments: Just a word to the wise, this line is crazy thin. You˙ll definitely want a backing line. Otherwise it's been my immediate favorite line, you can cast even light lures further than you ever did. It˙s expensive but worth it.
