Rapala Shad Rap

When Rapala was creating the Shad Rap, they wanted a crankbait that would closely resemble baitfish the world over, cast like a bullet, and work at a variety depths. Now considered by many to be the benchmark by which all other hardbaits are measured, the Rapala Shad Rap, constructed from the highest quality balsa wood, embodies all of these attributes, plus it delivers the legendary Rapala wobbling action.  Equally effective whether cast or trolled, it performs from ultra slow to super fast with now negative effects.  Available in several proven colors and a variety of models to target specific depths, each Rapala Shad Rap is hand-tuned and tank-tested, like all Rapala baits, to ensure it runs true right out of the package.

Comments: I remember when these cb's were first introduced in the 80's; the tackle stores couldn't keep them on the pegs! The subtle swimming action of these lures will produce in cold water when the bite slows down. I bought every color available in the 80's, and still use the lures today. The original shad pattern is the BEST color for clear lakes, but the silver back minnow works well too. A little lead tape on the lip or belly will help casting issues on windy days. You can swim it or use the lure like a jerk bait; smallies will slam em'!

Comments: fish these hard late summer mornings... have had great success with them, SSR09 in bluegill... we had a LOT of small bluegill in this particular lake tho.. I think they spawned twice. Thing is, after awhile, I think I'm KVD and cast wild once in 45 casts, and have lost two in the same 20 yards. GREAT bait in any event, this is in a clear lake with mainly smallmouth BTW.

From: Ron: CO River chain

Comments: This is an awesome coldwater bait.  Slow crank this in the late fall and winter and you will catch big fish.  Last winter I caught a 4 or 5lber and my grandpa had one break off that was probably 7 or 8.  My favorite color is shad even though bluegill is the primary forage in my lakes.

From: Ethan: Charlottesville, VA

Comments: This lure literally made a fishing trip for us recently. We were fishing Northern Wisconsin lakes with 50-60 degree temps depending on depth and clarity and we wore them out on this lure. Smallmouth and largemouth (And 5 suspended walleyes that were an added bonus during bass fishing). No other bait needed. One of us made a switch to this (#5 Dark Brown Crawdad) after a rough first morning and pulled out a 3.5 lb smallie first cast. The rest of the weekend all of us used the #5 in Crawdad or Dark Brown Crawdad and we lit it up every day. My new go-to cold water bait!

Comments: A number 7 Shad Rap is a must have bait on Shearon Harris Lake, NC in February and March.  Fish it with 8 pound test line, a Shimano Stradic 2500 reel, and a 7 foot medium light rod.  Use a fish n fool knot.  This set up is a fish catching machine.

From: Dan: Cary, NC

Comments: only a few things could make me happier then getting a select few of Ike's custom colores on shad raps "caugh...blue back herring, mardi gras, old school..caugh" anyway we can make this happen rapala?

From: Jonathon: TN

Comments: these are still some of the most versatile crankbaits on the market, fish absolutely kill them.

From: Matthew

Comments: One of the GREATEST and most versatile baits of ALL TIME, can pretty much catch any species with these, using the right sizes, etc... Speaking of that, I am lgad they added the 4 & 6, what they NEED is a size 11, in the 4/14 to 4 1/2 in range to represent BIG gizzard shard, bluegill, baby bass, perch, what have you. There is a HUGE size jump from the 9 to the Super Shad 13 at 5 1/2, would like a size gap filler in the deep diver and shallow.

From: Forrest: WV

Comments: Great for trolling Walleye's in shallower water. Even managed to get a 41 inch, 16 pound Pike into the boat with an SR5 (Perch). The lure does not stand up against big northerns as the lure was broken after that fish. But for anything under 10 pounds these lures will catch lots of fish. They are light and have a great action in the water. Would recommend this lure to anyone. When fish are not bitting I will pull out the SR5 Perch and it always catches.

From: Charlie: SK, Canada

Comments: iv had fish hit it off the top before i could even start moving it. perfectly imitates a shad great bait

From: CA

Comments: SR5 I have caught bass from way north on Lake Erie to way south in Florida water from 40 degrees to 90 degrees crystal clear water to coffee what else can I say.

From: Andy: Columbus, Ohio

Comments: The Shad Rap 7 works great for catching suspended walleyes in the summer. The SR5 works exceptionally well at dusk when walleyes surface to feed on insects and shallow baitfish. Troll with a lot of line at 2 mph and the SR7 will reach depths of nearly 20ft. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quality crankbait.

From: Chris: MN

Comments: I recently purchased a shadrap 07 and took it out to the lake for a test. We weren't trolling for 10 minutes before I caught a nice large mouth bass. It is also great for casting. When ever we go to a lake, the lure I pull out of my tackle box most often is the Rapala Shadrap 07 for its ability to catch fish. I totally recomend this lure to anybody that doesn't have one.

From: Josh: Granite Falls, MN

Comments: The Shad Rap 05 and Shallow Shad Rap 05 are steady producers when larger crank baits just are not working. When retrieved very slowly, both are excellent winter cranking lures for bass with water temperature in the 40s. During pre-spawn with water temperature in the 50s, crank them over and through shallow weeds, pausing for an instant to let them slowly rise a bit when hitting cover, and bass strike them hard. IÕve caught largemouth bass weighing up to 5 pounds on these slim profile, 2 inch lures. Be sure to use a spinning outfit since they are very light, weighing a mere 3/16 of an ounce

From: Vince: Tucson, AZ

Comments: Three casts into this fantastic little lure in Shad color number eight, landed a four pound largemouth.  Lost it, so I am in dire need of another one, will be ordering soon.

From: Issac: Erie, KS

Comments: These are great crankbaits the vmc hooks are super sharp went out to wheeler lake and was killen it on the silver number 7 and the shad number 7 and the prices is pretty good will be getting more of that shad raps soon

From: Joesph: AL

Comments:  I was fishing Lake Hartwell and the water was 53 degrees. Everyone was saying crankbaits were working near the bank. I had a shad rap in shad color on my crankbait rod. It was overcast and about to start raining so I didnt have long to fish. I wasnt there for ten minutes and I caught the first and only fish. About two pound largemouth.

From: Chase: SC

Comments: This lure excels in cold water. This silent lure is best fished slow around rocks, weeds, and other fish holding cover.  It seems the slower the better.  It has a suductive tight wiggle that cold weather fish can not seem to resist. These lures are light weight for their size, which can make casting an issue. Use light line for best results. Best for waters from 4 to 10 ft deep.

From: Pao: B.S., SC

Comments:  I have used this lure for years, but not in the way most of you are.  The SR7 in Crawdad color is one of the best rainbow trout lures that I have ever used on the White and Little Red Rivers here in Arkansas.  Give it a shot when they are generating and you will see what I am talking about

From: Brad: Wynne, AR

Comments: Have had this lure in my box for years, tied the silver #7 on at the Occoquan River.Within a half hour, had 2 bass 1 channel cat and 1 white perch. Ordering more, great crank bait for fishing in 8 to 10 feet of water. Thanks Tackle Warehouse for the continued great service and my tackle box getting heavier along the way. Catch and Release...good fishing everyone!!!

From: Ken: Virginia

Comments: I've been using these for about two years, and love them. I have two sizes: one in the bluegill and one in the yellow perch. Landed a few bass, perch and a bluegill on the bluegill color, and caught a perch trying to school with the other one. All in all these are good lures: good action, love the colors I use and they get down to the depth and cover the water I'm targeting.
