Quality reelThis is my second hundo, I have the original version and I enjoy them both. This reel has brass internals, cast a mile and is super smooth and light. I use them both inshore and for bass fishing. Can’t go wrong regardless of what you fish for.

best inshore casting reel in historysmoothest saltwater casting reel i have ever used. I love the clicking drag. It can also horse some big fish in with its 15lb drag which is more than a shimano tranx 200. overall nicest casting reel i have ever used.

Finally a true inshore reelThis is a reel that was truly made for saltwater anglers unlike many others that are freshwater reels with a new paint job. casting is effortless and reeling underload is incredibly smooth. Drag clicker is also a great touch and the reel feels incredibly strong while still maintaining a very light weight. I've heard complaints about the reel being loud and rough feeling which is probably the ceramic bearings. For saltwater angler's ceramic bearings are a huge plus as they will far outlast any stainless bearing. As far as it feeling rough its more than likely your brain playing a trick on you cause of what you are hearing. Smooth, solid, lightweight, and tight tolerances are words I would use to sum up this reel. Bates is setting the standard for what reels in this price point should be like, other manufactures should take note.

Bate'd, too expensive for no quality controlI'm so disappointed, I thought i found my new favorite company! Bate's really needs to get a quality control department in place if they are going to sell Chinese reels at nearly half a grand. I thought this was going to be my new favorite reel; Solid body, salt worthy, lightweight, and brass geared. THE BAD... it is not smooth, it's actually the roughest out of the box reel I've owned, and the most expensive. There is a small amount of yellow grease on the worm gear, but it sounds and cranks like it's been used for a year in saltwater, and never rinsed or lubed. The spool weighs absolutely nothing, and the bearings spin for days on their own, but when you turn the knob it feels heavy and meshy. Smooth isn't even the adjective, It just feels extremely heavy to turn; like you heavily over spooled and are dragging the spool release button with line, or dragging an 8oz swim bait maybe (I've only used 4 inch paddle tails with it - maybe 3/8oz). The body finish looks like cheap Chinese anodizing. I also hate that the side plate has NO RETAINER when opened, that's going to be an expensive "plop" in the water for some people (but probably keeps the weight down). It cast far (again the spool bearings are wicked fast). The handle and tension knob all look and feel amazing, and there is no slop in the handle/gearing (which may be the cause of the overall problem). Drag and Spool tension knob are audible and tactile as is the drag itself. Drag also seems to work great when the Reds are on the line, smooth and "clicky" like I want. For $425 dollars I can't get over it spinning like a $40 combo reel. It seems almost perfect except for when you use it, and at that point it just feels like regret. A 7.1 Shimano Tranx with plastic bushings is 3to5 times smoother/easier to spin than this. If you are pulling the jig off the bottom and just free spin the handle once it goes weightless to take up the line, you are lucky to get a full spin of the handle, vs 2 or 3 rotations with a shimano/daiwa/abu/okuma/lews. Spec Wise I was so excited I almost bought two , but I am so glad I waited to get this one first. 2 days in, I am supposed to be in the honeymoon stage, but I didn't even want to take it out on the boat today :( I literally took a $90 savage gear reel instead. I just ordered a Metanium, and I hate dealing with returns, but I should just send this extremely overpriced Chinese thing back.

Simply the best inshore casting reelThis is simply the best inshore casting reel on the market. You will not be disappointed. Unbelievably smooth and robust design while being lighter than any other inshore casting reel. Extremely versatile.
