No thanksBought a few of these in different sizes to use at Dale hollow, lost every fish I hooked with this. Good idea, poor execution.
You got me once, but won’t twiceFrom the beginning it looked a little sketch but I fell or was pushed onto the urchin train and too was looking for rigging ideas. I can see how this was intended but never took the time to test it and perfect it, or even improve it. It was a rush to market is what it looks like holding it. The gap between #1 size imo is too small, possibly way too small, the line ties on literally every single one were either welded blindfolded in the dark or by a 7 yo. It appears to be more soldered than welded. I lost the first bait, hook, and fish to unfortunately find this out which I take credit for tying on at the ramp pre-dawn. Had to take each one and file to smooth edge to prevent it. Was about to tie another one on when I seen what the issue was. The gap in the 1/0 is much better but I think could still be improved upon fairly easily. The bait keeper is prob the best part of the hook. With a used bait I inserted in a new position and tried the difficulty of taking off…as my dad said “you ain’t getting that B_T_H off without destroying your bait”…can’t stand when he’s right as a grown man now. It destroys the bait so plan on leaving the hook in when buying these. Honestly, I expected more seeing who made it and worse than that they don’t reply to emails. There’s better out there and if you’re still here, I’m hoping it saved you at least $20. Don’t recommend
Defeats the purposeI spent the last 3 days in the upper peninsula. The only thing they wanted was my minnow and the 12 MM urchin. They SLAYED the urchin but I lost about 50% of the fish. They weren't just spitting it out (that happened too) but I'd have them on and it would just come out or they would throw it. It got to the point I was predicting they'd come off. I tried pausing to let them eat, hooking right away, softer hookset (loosened drag), hard hook set (stiffer rod and braid). I tried everything. This is also 3 days and about 100 fish. I lost probably 40 smallies. I'm not giving this review based off 2 fish I lost. The tackle is unusable in my opinion.
I understand the industry is evolving and we're all trying to figure out how to rig this urchin but the core tackle hook isn't worth throwing.
Not the best designYou will lose a lot of fish, plus these the nail weight portion is hard to feed into the larger urchin baits. I was excited about these, took them out fishing a few times, and recently tossed all my extras in the trash. Save your money!
3/0 ALL THE WAYGreat Hook, No lost fish once i delayed the trigger pull and let the rod load a little.
3/0 rig good, #1 rig 20 % land rateHave used for a couple of weeks now, size #1 rig used on Uni and landed 4 of 20 fish hooked if they jump you will lose them, 20% land rate. Size 3/0 rig used on 19mm Prickly Pear landed 3 of 4 hooked. I believe the gap between size #1 hook and weighting system is to small. Would recommend moving weight further up hook for better gap on #1 hook version. The 3/0 hook is good same size weight system as #1 hook with better gap on 3/0 hook. Barbed weight system does keep baits secure.
Great hook up ratioOnly lost one fish out of 9 that I hooked up on. Impressive hook!
Terrible hookBought 1 pack to try. All 3 hooks are crooked/bent from forming eye of hook. Worse part is actually the eye of hook, the connection point looks like they TRIED to weld eye closed but just melted wire and make a sharp corner that is guaranteed to break your line. At 15 bucks a bait I won't even risk using them. Waste of money, I can't believe how terrible these hooks are!
20% land rateHokked into 12 fish and was only able to land 3. They spit the hook out almost every time.
Mixed after first time outOut of the gate was getting bit almost every cast. Fishing around big rocks with multiple Spots eating. Missed the hook set on the first 2-3. Had another on and jumped out of the water and threw the hook. I don't think I fully set the hook. I had to slow my reaction and let them eat it not just hit it. Landed the last 4. Not sure if this is the ticket, or if there is a better way. I like the simplicity.
